Link | 1 | 2 | Anything But Joey | Anything But Joey | United States | Anything But Joey | Pop-punk band from Kansas City. The band formed in the summer of 1995 under the name M.I.P. After playing their first show, they changed their name to Thulium. In December 1996, Thulium recorded and released a four-song demo called The Blue Tape. During this period, they added second guitarist Steve Nick and made two more recordings. A self-titled album in 1997 (sometimes called the "white album") and an EP called Mars Needs Pimps Too the next year. With producer J. Hall, Thulium recorded their second album, The Secret Club, in two weeks. In April 2001, Steve parted ways with the band, citing creative differences. Thulium would continue touring heavily, taking short breaks to record a few songs here and there. In 2002, the band decided to change its name from Thulium to Anything But Joey (ABJ) and released a new album, Come Out Fighting, in December. They released another 4 song EP, Necessary, But Not Cool, in late 2004. After this, Jeff left the band and was replaced by former Walls of Jericho drummer Wes Keely. In January 2005, the band announced that they were breaking up. Matt, Bryan, and Wes formed a harder styled emo/goth band called The Famed. Drew reunited with former guitarist Steve Nick to form another pop-rock band called Stuck On Broadway. Jeff later joined Stuck On Broadway after their original drummer quit.

Endangered Blood formed in 2008, to play a benefit concert to help pay for fellow musician [a=Andrew D'Angelo]'s medical bills (the quartet feature a brief and intense tribute to D'Angelo; "Andrew's Ditty Variation One"). For the performance, drummer Jim Black and bassist Trevor Dunn—two of the saxophonist's band mates—enlisted saxophonists Chris Speed and Oscar Noriega. Link | 0 | 3 | Abdul Tee-Jay | Abdul Tee-Jay | Abdul Tee-Jay | Abdul Tejan-Jalloh Abdul Tee-Jay hails from Sierra Leone although his parents and hence his full name, Tejan-Jalloh, come from Guinea. At a very young age, somewhat secretly, Abdul learnt to play guitar. At that time there was music coming into the port of Freetown from many different regions such as soukous and high-life, traditional and popular as well as local musicians: Abdul was influenced by all of these sounds and joined local bands. His family were all very academic and he also went to study in Virginia, USA in 1974. While there he took the opportunities to learn more guitar, use better instruments, joined a band called Spice and learnt to play the dulcimer. In 1979 Abdul came to Britain to work in banking but met other musicians and decided to form a band. This was called African Connection but then in 1982 he felt the need to concentrate on more typical African music, and a pan-African band, African Culture, came into being. Even this was not quite satisfying and at a turning point Abdul resolved to base all his music on Sierra Leone street- and folk music. At this point, 1988, the name of the band changed to Rokoto, the nickname of part of Freetown. Abdul Tee-Jay and Rokoto, a seven-piece band, brought out 3 albums, Kanka Kuru, url=https://www.discogs.com/Abdul-Tee-Jays-Rokoto-Fire-Dombolo/release/4657905]Fire Dombolo and E'Go Lef Pan You (see below and CDs) and have toured extensively to many countries. The band entertained at the Hogmannay celebrations in Edinburgh to bring in the New Year of 1999. More recently Abdul's music is still evolving because he now includes beautiful acoustic palm wine music. For the group Palm Wine A-Go-Go he sings and plays acoustic guitar and has just one or two other musicians on stage with kongoma (bass thumb piano), kondi (thumb piano) and drums. In 2001 they were at London venues such as the Barbican Free Stage and Coin Street Festival. Whether with his full band or the smaller acoustic group, Tee-Jay's voice and music is truly distinctive. A new CD, Rokoto Make Me Dance-Dance has a selection of 12 dance tracks taken from each of Abdul's 3 albums. Currently he is recording both acoustic and electric sounds but is determined to play more palm wine music so that it may live on! Look out for Abdul's new acoustic album Palm Wine A- Go-Go available now! In 2004 Abdul performed at London's African Music Festival in May. If Abdul Tee-Jay had not been living in London in the 80s, when many western music fans first discovered African styles, then his career might have been different. As it was, he had left Sierra Leone to study economics in the US before moving to the UK, where he quit banking and formed his excellent band Rokoto. But he wasn’t taken as seriously as artists based back in Africa, and never received the recognition he deserved. Times and fashions have since changed and Abdul Tee-Jay is still here in the UK, still plugging away, and still in remarkably good form. His last album, released over a decade ago, was an acoustic set in which he revived and updated the “palm wine music” he heard as a young boy in Freetown. It’s an easy-going style, popular at parties where cheap drink is provided by the fermented sap of the oil palm tree, and has obvious links to Caribbean calypso. It can also be remarkably subtle and varied, as Tee-Jay proved. A cheerful, gangling figure in cap and glasses, he perched on a stool specially designed to include a pedal-operated foot drum, and launched into a set that showed off both his engagingly relaxed vocal style and excellent acoustic guitar work. Backed by his countryman Bunton Cole on congas, he started with his own songs, speeding up to a slinky dance style that showed how palm wine music influenced Highlife. He included songs by the early heroes of the style, [a4405380], and [a2940344], giving them scat-jazz embellishments, and followed with an unexpected switch to desert blues, and an impressive tribute to [a410281]. It’s surely not too late for Abdul Tee-Jay to be rediscovered.

The same year, after serious talks, band reunited again under the name Fancy Frogs keeping on in post-punk phase, slowly crystallizing its music, tended to show its emotions in harmony, with moments of fear, hope, love and growing up and their musical influence started to move more to dark-rock and gothic bands like “Joy Division”, “The Mission”, “The Sisters of Mercy” and of course “Bauhaus”. Fancy Frogs continued to work on their music, visual identity, lyrics and they became very interesting for music fans. In the year of 1999., they recorded 4 songs for the compilation CD named “Parolla” (track list: Still Breathing in Me, Leather Girl, Start to Dance, In One World), where the sound crystallized. Immediately after this, another compilation appears - “Kuhinja”. Fancy Frogs worked very hard for the debut album, which appeared in 2003. under the name of “Tones of Love and Hope”. It was recorded in Pančevo at “A studio” in 2002. and was released for “Active Time Records”. Promoters and concert organizers become very interested in Fancy Frogs, who played many gigs and gothic festivals in Belgrade. From this album, the band filmed a music video for the song “Ordinary Room”, played on TV station, which attracted many music fans. Many other songs from the debut album were used for another compilation CD’s (“Crna Tačka”). After few years, after a lot of concerts in Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia and new material for second album, the drummer, Đorđe Anđelevski left the band. In February 2006., Relja Ilić took his place, who played already in bands like Nešto Najgore, O-pozition, The Mist, Mute. After one year of practicing, they decided to finish their work and finally record the second album. In 2007. they made contact with producer Dadi Stojanović who is owner of “Kazablanka Stuido” and start to recorded a brand new songs. In meanwhile, band played at few festivals and had traditional gigs in their born town of Pančevo. At “Samhain Festival”, they met Nikola Pavličević and Nenad Stojanović who are owners of “Dark Revolution”, the future publisher of Fancy Frogs. Their song “Blacksmith”, before the second album, was at compilation “Forgotten Art”. In November 18th, 2008., the bend released “Son of Earth” with strong dark attitude in music, lyric, stage appearance. They made another music video for the “Fields in Fog” song and played at “Exit Festival”, “Samhain 2008” and many other gigs. In September, 2009., Fancy Frogs found new member. On the second guitar is V, guitarist and vocalist from Nešto Najgore, Dead Shell of the Universe, Kolonjska Voda etc.

It is this paradox of contrast, such as the meshing of minimalism and chaos, simplicity and decadence, seriousness and humour that she strives for. Her passion for learning and creating has led her to explore and experience a multitude of different mediums and crafts; reaching out to both traditional and unexpected sources to further broaden her scope.

Link | 1 | 2 | Leather Angel | Leather Angel | Los Angeles | Leather Angel | Based in Los Angeles in the early to mid-'80s, Leather Angel was an all female heavy metal foursome that consisted of singer Terry O'Leary, guitarist Debbie Wolf, bassist Cathy Amanti, and drummer Krissi North. Leather Angel was originally called Obsession (their logo was even designed by Mötley Crüe's Nikki Sixx apparently), but the band had to change its name when, in 1983, it learned that another band wanted the name Obsession. Formed in L.A. in 1981, the band spent a lot of time playing the West Hollywood metal/hard rock scene, a scene that produced well-known headbangers like Mötley Crüe, Poison and Warrant. But unlike those combos, Leather Angel didn't get very far commercially. "We Came to Kill", Leather Angel's debut EP, came out on the Enigma-distributed Miami 1992 label in 1983. After Debbie Wolf's departure, the band changed their name to Jaded Lady, but they apparently broke up after appearing in the motion picture "The Decline Of The Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years" (1988).

Formed around 1999, they had a reputation as a remarkable live act, with members Denver Turner aka D.Form and Ernestine Deane on vocals, Brian de Goede (drums), Ricardo Moretti (keyboards, percussion, congas), Douglas Armstrong (trumpet, guitar) and Bood Carver (Budi Cava) on bass, releasing their highly-acclaimed debut album, "Steady On", in December of 2000. Link | 2 | 1 | pre)Thing | pre)Thing | pre)Thing | Alternative Rock (Modern Rock) band from Modesto, California (USA). Drums - Dino, Bass guitar - Jon Troy Winquist, Vocals/Gutiar - Rust Epique There's a band from Hollywood called PRE)THING. Well, there are a million bands from Hollywood. And they're full of people from all over the country-all over the world, actually-and they all want to play their music and they all want to be famous. Most of them won't succeed. Some of the ones that do succeed won't deserve it. Some that deserve success will never find it. There's only one sure thing about these bands: there will always be a steady supply of them. Which is why when a guy with a vision, like PRE)THING's guitarist/singer, Rust Epique, meets up with two amazing musicians, like PRE)THING's drummer Dinolicious and bassist JonTroy, who not only understand his vision, but actually enable and further that vision, you have that which transcends the normal. You should know that PRE)THING isn't a normal band. You should know Rust is an artist-as in an accomplished painter, as in "different," as in occasionally "difficult," as in eccentric-as well as a musician. Rust is more than joined by Dinolicious and JonTroy-he says that he's tired of people being more interested in the singer than anybody else in the band, insisting that his partners are more important than he is. You should also know that PRE)THING is one of those things that's more than the sum of its parts. Yeah, they're a power trio in the every-player-is-a-badass tradition of Cream, The Police, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Rush-but they don't sound like an every-player-is-a-badass, old-fashioned rock band. There's a reason the threesome's debut is called 22nd Century Lifestyle episode: RUSTANDTHESUPERHEROES SEXDRUGSANDSOUTHERNCITYROCK: this is the sound of the future. Rust envisioned it as Crystal Method meets Willie Nelson and he's right. Well, sort of. Maybe if Willie ate 'shrooms with Linkin Park. Or if Crystal Method got down with Jane's Addiction at Stax/Volt studios. 22nd Century Lifestyle is a record in the same vein as the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magic-though it's not funky. The disc is a cross-pollination of art-rock, alt. rock, blues (check out the coda of "Asssending"), and full-throttle rock. Fluttering, wavering digital effects sometimes color Rust's vocals and drums, dozens of guitar track fill every crack, the occasional electronica sound burbles through, and the rhythm tracks are so solid you could build a trailer park on them. Southern City Rock-it's greasy, but not backwoods. A couple years ago, Rust was living a rustic life in a trailer in Modesto, California. All he really had were some clothes, maybe a guitar, and a four-song demo CD for the project he was calling RUSTANDTHESUPERHEROES at the time. He'd been in a Platinum-selling band, but realized that selling a million records didn't change anything. (Here's a hint: PRE)THING's first L.A. show was billed under the name Daisytown. Google him if you still don't get it.) Soon, Rust had a band of himself and a couple high school kids. A Modesto writer did a piece about Rust and his songs, and things started taking off. But when push came to shove, and his music starting getting the attention it deserved, Rust told the kids he was breaking up the band. In reality, his heart of gold kept him from stopping the kids from going on-he told their parents that he couldn't keep them from going to college. So he moved to Las Vegas and tried to figure out his next move. (Says a friend: "Rust stuck in there when @#%$! went dark. He's a foul-mouthed phoenix rising from the ashes.") That's when opportunity came calling-literally. V2 Records' Scott Graves phoned Rust and chatted him up for more than two hours, telling the oddball musician that he had to sign him. As the conversation went on, and on, Graves happened to yawn, as people are prone to doing, but Rust took that as a sign of Graves being dishonest and promptly hung up. There's your artistic temperament. He avoided V2 for a short while before finally making huge demands of the label: they had to give him a ton of money to fund the immense project and they couldn't ever tell him no until he made a mistake (impossible). 22nd Century Lifestyle makes the case for giving into Rust's demands. There's tension and power in the thick, dense torrents of guitar and the onslaught of drums. It's dark, it's heavy, but it's melodic. (You're not too old to remember when heavy rock didn't involve rapping, right?) Rust's voice is a surprisingly potent weapon. He can deliver a gruff whisper that Michael Hutchence would die for ("Faded Love") or he can get way into a falsetto like Jeff Buckley ("Won + X"), but his smoky baritone primarily coats songs with the world-weariness of Mark Lanegan. None of the vocal talents would mean a thing if the music didn't back him up. There's certainly more depth to the songwriting than your average big rock record. Weird, spooky whispering ends "Tigh it High," which opens with a sonic assault that makes the Smashing Pumpkins sound wimpy, but there are shining acoustic guitars on "Stay Alive" that showcase a crisp, minor-key delicacy. True to its title, this is a record that looks to the future. Rust talks in circles about the past, sometimes confusing himself and the people around him. Asked about the origins of the band, he says, "When the [1994 Northridge] earthquake hit, somebody told me that one day I was going to meet guys name JonTroy and Dinolicious and start a band. Then he tangents into something completely different-about how the movie Unbreakable is the story of his life. What is true is that both JonTroy and Dinolicious moved from New York state to Los Angeles to chase that rock & roll dream. Since combining forces, the three have played almost every single day, and spent most of the beginning of 2003 on tour. On a rare break from the road, Rust slept inside the tour bus anyways. In addition to spending all of their time together, the band's closeness shows itself in the communal deadpan humor. One person will start a story and the other two will add details. Like, how Barbara Streisand sings on a track on 22nd Century Lifestyle. When they start, they won't stop: Jontroy will bust into acapella Guns n' Roses songs with little prompting. He almost got arrested in Las Vegas for being naked while singing all of Use Your Illusion I on the rooftop of a downtown motel. Makes sense then, that Rust says the band's motto is embodied in their record's "22nd Century Lifestyle." "You obviously have to know what you want before you go about getting it. And we know what we want," says Dinolicious. "It's exciting to know what you want. Then you can go for it." And go for it they do. The disc, says Rust, "is the most positive piece of art this century. '(Carl's Song) Shoot, Shoot' is about somebody getting shot because he's trying to save somebody he loves. 'Sunshine' is about the sun and a girl and her love. Pretty much the whole record is a love record. I'm not one of those people who wants to believe that you have to get smacked down to get back up when one door closes, another opens-I'm not that king of guy. But it's true; I'm living proof. It's all about staying up all night and doing the job." Just don't expect Rust to explain everything; in his case, the music really is the message. "This band is all about going for it," Rust says. "It's about starting from something, breaking it down and becoming more than something." PRE)THING is more than something. It's something else. It's something you need to hear to believe.

Link | 2 | 1 | Kaothic | Kaothic | Spain | Kaothic | Kaothic started off in 2001, founded by guitar player Alberto Marin. It started as a Death Metal band, with brutal death metal singer David Cuñado on the vocals, Marcos de la Calle on drums and Gustavo Romero on bass guitar, playing some concerts. In 2002 they entered the studio to record their first album with the best metal music producer in Spain, Big Simon (Saratoga, Ebony Ark, Not For Us, Terroristars). During the recording sessions, they realized that they didn't want such a brutal approach to their music, and therefore the singer was replaced by David Curtonates (Not For US, Terroristars). The recording was on hiatus during the composition of some final arrangements and the search for a new singer. Finally, in 2004 went back to the studio and recorded "Order to Chaos" at M20 Studios with Big Simon, releasing it through Avispa Records. The acclaim of both public and critics was very good and led them to play with bands such as Avulsed or Killswitch Engage, recording a song for Avulsed's tribute album. In 2006 David Curtonates left the band just before entering the studio. After two months looking for a new singer, Cyro E. Sanchez (Skynet) joined the band. They are now preparing the new material for their upcoming album.

Their mission is to raise awareness for local hunger in heartland and urban cities across the United States and the critical needs and challenges local food banks face to carry on the good work in their communities. This is the purpose and the reason that The December People was formed a few years ago by rocker, Grammy nominee and studio owner/producer Robert Berry. He enlisted some of his likeminded, kindhearted fellow rockers and formed a band.

Link | 2 | 1 | Falsa Identidad | Falsa Identidad | Spain | Falsa Identidad | Hailing from Santander, a town in the spanish north coast, this Hip-Hop combo consisting of Priteo ([a1053373]) and [a926668] featured rhymes and beats influenced by the jazz inspired Hip-Hop of New York and the freshness of the West Coast underground. Since its early days the band established itself as a reference in the area despite their primitive sound on early demos. Somehow, their original ideas were clear and established a solid foundation to develop what the group wanted to express lyrically and musically. Along with [a4600604] and Pareja de Ases, they created the Costa Norte collective and laid the foundation for a coherent local scene. And so, with the evolution of its publications, you can see the development of both the surrounding scene and the group. And you can guess the intentions that lead their members to join Ganda ([a1053372]) to later form [a926666]. The life of the group spanned from the late eighties to 1999, when Chinatown was formed. During all this time, the two members of the group have collaborated with other artists and, of course, they are still working together to this day.

A project that was never accomplished though. The time never seemed to be right, and the main focus always lay on the leviathan Diary of Dreams. But now, things are about to change: Adrian Hates and Gaun:A have broken their chains and expanded the borders of their musical works to make room for another creation: “.com/kill” is coming, so much is for sure … and it won’t take long. Of course there are moments where .com/kill’s musical legacy will flare up, and yet, the project is dominated by elements and songs which couldn’t be more different from the mother ship. Phrases, fragments and voodoo-like rhythms attack the stunned listener, pounding furiously like a horde of wild note storms. The going is unusually rough, hard and intense, promising lots of delights for the club world. And .com/kill is much more than a side project – it is a second musical universe, a second home for the redirected and unfiltered words and sounds from the unconsciousness of a creative duo, renowned for their ability to let music become a soundtrack for your head. So be patient for just a little longer … .com/kill is coming … to the club, to the stage and to your head. +++ |

Probably this rooted his love for drums, rhythms and dancing. When he got back to Germany, he started to play guitar in a new-wave rock band Grosse Freiheit in Hamburg where also the beatles started their career. He tended to follow his visions and dreams and discovered his talent for holistic activities. In 1985 he founded the Klanghaus, a holistic institut for sound research, therapy and performing arts. At that time he started to work with gongs and meditation – technique. It was even earlier, that he met Hans Cousto who introduced him with the concept of the Cosmic Octave and it was in 1989, when Jens contacted the company PAISTE, the world largest producer for cymbals and gongs. Together they invented the Planet Gongs. Recordings as well as writings by Jens Zygar can be found from that time. In 1989 he met Steve Schroyder on a festival in suisse and from that moment on, he dedicated his life to the STAR SOUNDS ORCHESTRA.

Dating from approximately 1000 to 800 B.C., their casting and design represent one of the high points of Bronze Age craftsmanship and technology. Although Bronze Age horns have been in museum collections since at least 1750, it's only recently that the method of playing them has been rediscovered. In 1988 Simon O'Dwyer dicovered that Bronze Age Irish Horns can be played with the same techniques used to play the Australian Aboriginal didgeridoo. The members of Reconciliation are Irish musicians Simon O'Dwyer and Maria Cullen on Bronze Age Irish Horn and percussion respectively and Australians Alan Dargin and Phillip Conyngham on didgeridoo.

Link | 2 | 1 | Urban Creep | Urban Creep | South Africa | South African rock band | Urban Creep | Urban Creep Urban Creep were a seminal South African rock band. The band was formed in 1994 and recorded two critically acclaimed albums, `Sea Level` and `Tightroper`. `Sea Level` was nominated for Rock album of the year 1995 at the South African Music Industry awards. `Sea Level` and `Slow Thighs` both got to number 1 on the 5fm top 40 in 1995 and 1997 respectively. According to well known musician and critic Dave Marks: “Chris Letcher’s finger-picking acoustic & electric guitar style, unique vocals & song writing abilities combined with the classical & maskanda strains of Brendan Jury’s violin, keyboards & rock vocals, made the Creeps the urban legend & sensation they were”. The band members were: Brendan Jury (viola and vocals), , Chris Letcher (guitar and vocals), , Ross Campbell (drums) and Didier Noblia (bass). After a year of touring and living out of a V6 Ford, the band committed 15 songs to disc. The title track “Sea Level” is born out of a fondness for their home-town of Durban, and this is where the journey begins. It passes through the wildness of the Karoo, the rhythm and blues of urban Johannesburg, township jive and the Goema frenzy of the Cape flats. “Fly”. “Revolution” and “Changes” are songs that voice the hope and despair of the individual caught in South Africa’s struggle for peace and prosperity. At the same time songs like “Noah” and “Curious” expose a more personal kind of existential searching. “Sea Level” is a wild ride. Sea Level was nominated for Album of the Year at the South African Music Industry awards in 1996. Most of the material on this second full-length album was written on the road in 1995. The band was busy following the relative success of their previous album ‘Sea Level’, trying to forge a future in our new democracy. Tightroper is a darker album, reflecting the mood of a band at battle with themselves as well as the relentless tour schedule needed to survive financially. Songs like Easter and Stop Thinking were written by Chris at the Rustlers Valley festival. Others such as Seven Depths of Skin and Tightroper reflected a new collaborative writing effort. Shot Down was recorded as a tribute to the late great James Phillips who inspired and supported the band. Therese Owen wrote at the time “Urban Creep, you deserve tumultuous accolades. Tightroper is brilliant. It is the crowning achievement of a long hard struggle.” Sea Level` was nominated for album of the year at the South African Music Industry awards in 1996. Tracks `Sea Level` and `Slow Thighs` both got to number 1 on the 5fm top 40 in 1997. |
