His version of Finnish outlaw country is sung with a raw and ragged voice and leaves no one unimpressed. The backing band Rahtarit are true heroes of labour who get their nutrition from greasy meatpies and lousy coffee. Their songs have two themes: the bygone Wild West and the great men with their big trucks. So far, Kantri-Antero & Rahtarit have recorded one album and the future is open for them. But remember: You're never alone on the road.

Link | 1 | 1 | The Avatars of They | The Avatars of They | United States | The Avatars Of They | [b]The Avatars Of They[/b] are the sock-puppet alter egos of [a=They Might Be Giants]. The duo consists of "Blue Avatar" ([a=John Flansburgh]) and "Green Avatar" ([a=John Linnell]). The puppets often appear (via camera and projector) at live TMBG shows to perform one or two songs. They are sometimes joined by other (cardboard cut-out) guests. Early on, it was assumed that the Avatars would release an album; however, John Linnell quickly dispelled these rumors. In spite of this, the Avatars have "released" an EP, containing their first four studio recordings, due to popular demand. The puppets were constructed by John Flansburgh's wife, [a=Robin Goldwasser].

The record company, [url=http://www.discogs.com/label/Magnet+%282%29]Magnet[/url], learnt that in Germany the word Quark had some link with cheese, and insisted that a new name be found. Bowkett and Ansell, somewhat ironically, chose President President; which unbeknownst to the label is linked with a brand of cheese in France. Becoming disillusioned with their label they chose to leave, and the act name was dropped. However, still under contract, they couldn't record together either. They did eventually get back together under the name 'Death By Bongo' (late-1980s), but nothing became of the project. The album was eventually [url=https://www.discogs.com/release/9340349]released in May, 2016[/url], under their original name.

Link | 1 | 1 | Art Boys Collection | Art Boys Collection | Austria | Art Boys Collection | Austrian Progressive Beat Band in flower power style from Andorf, Upper Austria, Austria. Active from 1970-75. The Art Boys Collection started as pure The Boys in Upper Austria in 1969, when Gerhard Egger and Hans Joachim Holz met in a student jam session in 1970. They changed their name and outfit and performed several shows in G.I. Clubs in Austria and Bavaria. Three months later, the band went to Vienna to record their first single at Austrophon-Studio and organ player Walter Holz fixed a record deal with the Swiss/Austrian label [l=Lesborne]. The song was on power play in the radio and they got offered to release another record ("Life Is A Dream") by the German label Intersong, which only got released in small quantities due to technical problems in the end of the recording process. After that they returned to Vienna to record [r2291675], which was number one in the charts for six weeks. The Art Boys Collection didn't bill themselves as a progressive rock band, as they were a beat band. After having problems with journalists from the Austrian Radio Broadcasting, the band was banned by them. Their shows often got opened up by [a=Waterloo & Robinson] who started their career at that time. Gerhard Egger left the band and got replaced by [a=Hubert Perfahl]. Before he quit, Egger finished the recording of their only album "Stoned Wall". The Art Boys continued and played shows till 1972, also opening stages for [a=Golden Earring] and [a=Deep Purple]. The band finally disbanded and 1972 and stopped playing live in 1975

Whilst Davies was a Chicago Blues purist at heart, which finally led to his separation from Korner, his work had a vital influence on many of the musicians and 'guitar heros' of later years. The Kinks, The Stones, Pete Townshend, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, John Baldry, Jimmy Page, The Yardbirds, John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers, Rod Stewart, Ritchie Blackmore... the list is vast. All had gained inspiration from witnessing Davies' sessions at either Soho's 'Round House', the Marquee or the hotbed of rhythm & blues fusion, the Ealing Club, in which he partnered Korner in ownership. By January 1962 Davies and Korner had formed "[a425700]", a band which became a 'moveable feast' for a raft of budding UK blues musicians. A format that spawned a matrix for bands such as The Bluesbreakers, the Organisation, Steampacket, or Colosseum. Although it is hard to imagine today, this band helped pioneer the concept of using amplifiers and their consequent effects on-stage. As time progressed Davies found himself at odds with the many styles and jazz influences the band had adopted. By the following year he had left "Blues Inc" and formed "[a906329]", moving away from his early teenage influences of [a313747] and into modern renditions in a Chicago Blues style. With Davies on harmonica, 12-string acoustic or banjo, his early band line-up was [a982435] [Drums], [a594541] [aka Fenson, Bass], [a255177] [Piano] and [a180585] [aka Price, Guitar]. Page's position was short-lived, as he became involved in session work, and he was replaced by ex-Savages guitarist [a1304273]. The group took up residency at the Marquee in 1963, with [a326118] added on vocals. The band's stage presentation was also swelled by the inclusion of the vocal backing group "The Velvettes" with Peggy Phango, a trio that had finished touring a UK production of "King Kong". The band released their first single "Country Line Special" in February 1963. A number of further recordings were made before Davies tragically died a year later, just before his 32nd birthday. The name and format of the band continued under the aegis of Long John Baldry for a while and eventually evolved into "[a1146622]".

Link | 1 | 1 | Eternal Storm | Eternal Storm | Spain | Eternal Storm | Eternal Storm Eternal Storm is a Melodic Extreme Metal band that was created in late 2006 under the name of Death Valley by Kheryon (vocals) and Tephros (drums, ex-Beneath Your Fears) along with another musicians. The band pretended to play some kind of symphonic black metal but went into a hiatus shortly after. Some later, in late 2007, Kheryon (now playing bass too) and Tephros reformed Death Valley and brought Daniel Maganto as guitarist. After a few rehearsals Daniel invited his friend Jaime Torres to join as second guitarist: now that a line-up was established they started to write music in the vein of old school melodic death metal with some black metal touches and other traces of their own, blending aggression with melodic guitar work and epic riffs as well as atmospheric nuances. Tephros left the band some time after due to schedule problems. The band spent a short period as a trio and then a couple of months jamming with Carlos Gumuzio (currently in The Descent), who would eventually leave the band in order to spend more time in his other projects as a vocalist. During mid 2009 Death Valley changed his name to Eternal Storm just before recording their first songs: the new name shows the progression in the band's style and concept. In October 2009, Ramón Mejías de Salas joined Eternal Storm and the quartet started to perform their first shows. After some difficult times which followed Ramon's departure, it was in July 2011 when Luis "Lucho" Rodríguez from the almighty progressive metalheads Distance defined the lineup and some months later recorded what would become their debut EP 'From the Ashes', which was released in Spring 2013. So far, Eternal Storm has played with bands such as Leprous (Nor), Lock Up (UK/Swe), Blindead (Pol), Nami (And), Darkness By Oath, Kathaarsys, Moonloop, Noctem, Apocynthion...Now you only have to wait for the unleashing of the Storm... Line-up: Daniel Jimeno - Vocals/Bass (2006-) Jaime Torres - Guitar (2008-) Daniel Maganto - Guitar (2007-) Luis Rodríguez - Drums (2011-) Members also play(ed) in Distance, Under Vultures, Clockwork, Outer Heaven, Totëmwolf, As Light Dies, Against The Waves and The Ytriple Corporation.

started playing the drums at age 9. Being influenced by groups like Depeche Mode, New Order,
Front 242 & Big audio dynamite he stared playing in bands at age 14. During this time he also started to
build his production skills, taking charge of the recording, mixing, & editing aspects at home &
in the studio. He also began to experiment with other instruments like keyboards, bass & guitar.
After playing drums in bands & generally being part of the background for almost ten years, Derek realized that there was something missing. The year was 1991 & techno started to become a prominent force in NYC. This was the thing that filled the void for him. It was new, exciting & it was a kind of music that he could do on his own as well as take advantage of his growing studio skills. So he purchased some electronic gear & by 1992 started producing tracks & selling mix tapes. By 1994 Derek started to become a respected dj in the electronic community in new york. It wasn't long before he started being part of important events, holding many residencies, working at the vinyl shop Throb in New York, & commercially releasing tracks. Currently Mr. Marin is as busy as ever. He continues to produce tracks & remixes for various record labels, djs around the world, produces mix cds, & keeps things together at Throb records.

Link | 1 | 1 | Ugliness Man | Ugliness Man | Ugliness Man | Kevin Clow Ugliness Man started making electronic music under the name to\A\st (sometimes toastTRAX) around 1996-97. His early experiments were very basic, primitive, and not too original. However, he kept churning out tunes, getting slightly more experimental as he went along, but they still mostly came off as attempts to sound like Portishead or Simon Harris. He took a break to pursue other ventures, mostly involving acoustic folk music and a few small online projects. In late 2001, his interest in electronic music was resparked when he accidentally discovered that converting a sequenced song from one format to another in a program he was using sometimes totally mutated the song, adding a whole new spin to his compositions. This inspired him to plunge into minimalism, as well as blips and bleeps and things much more experimental than anything else he had touched before. While he still uses the name "Toast" at karaoke, he realized that this would not fit the music he was now producing. Taking a character name from a They Might Be Giants song, he became Ugliness Man. Ugliness Man currently resides in Calgary Alberta, Canada.

Link | 1 | 1 | Bijan Chemirani | Bijan Chemirani | Iran | Bijan Chemirani | The handsome cadet of one of Iran’s most famous musical families, Bijan Chemirani began his professional career while still in secondary school. He learned to play the zarb with his father Djamchid Chemirani and his brother Keyvan. Encouraged by them, he began at a very early age to work in concert and make recordings with musicians such as Ross Daly, Dariush Talai, Ballaké Sissoko, Jean Guihen Queyras, Sylvain Luc, Sting, Socrates Sinopoulos, Serge Teyssot Gai, Renaud Garcia Fons… He also learned to play the Iranian kamancheh repertoire with Cyrus Rangbar. At the age of twenty-two he recorded his first album, ‘Gulistan, jardin des roses’, in Athens and Marseille, with Ross Daly. The son of a famous zarb master, his subtle percussions have graced the works of several traditional musicians in his adopted homeland of France. With the release of his album “Eos”, Chemirani launched into an ambitious solo career. His first steps have confirmed the 23-year-old’s nigh scientific ability to coax out rhythms from his zarb. Despite critical praise for his first album, he has continued to collaborate with the likes of Ross Daly, Dupain and his old Greek friend Stelios Petrakis. Chemirani ensemble is a notable Persian classical music ensemble. The group is made of Chemirani family: Bijan Chemirani, Djamchid Chemirani, Keyvan Chemirani, Maryam Chemirani. In 1988, the Chemirani Trio (Bijan, Keyvan and Jamshid) was born and their special chemistry and peerless virtuosity has firmly established the zarb as one of the world’s foremost percussion instruments. Jamsid Chemirani was born in Tehran in 1942. he has studied the tombak since the age of eight. His teacher was Hossein Tehrani. Under his demanding tutelage, Chemirani made rapid progress and soon became a brilliant player. Since his arrival in Paris in 1961 he has taught at the Centre d'Etudes de Musique Orientale in the Paris Sorbonne Institut de Musicologie. He has performed with eminent Iranian musicians Dariush Safvat, Daryush Talai and Madjid Kiani. Born in Paris in 1968, Keyvan Chemirani started learning the zarb at the age of 13. Taught by his father, he soon assimilated the traditional technique. He studied for his masters in mathematics until 1989, when he launched an international career as soloist and accompanist. Bijan Chemirani began studying zarb early on with his father Djamchid and his brother Keyvan. He also plays the daf, riqq, and cajon. He has issued an album, Gulistan:Rose Garden along with Ross Daly. Since their inception as rhythmic masters, the trio Chemirani have branched out (both individually and as a group) inter-culturally. They've recorded and performed with folk and classical music genii from around the world. Although the Indian tabla have been long-known for density/diversity of sound, Keyvan's Heartbeat of the Orient album features tracks demonstrating the comparability of the Persian tombac to the Indian tabla.

With influences ranging from NIN to Kylie Minogue their fan base, which began mainly in the industrial & goth genre's, is rapidly expanding to include music fans from all spheres. Originally formed in 1998 by Bryan Sutton, Bryan's almost dance style tracks, blended with his heavy guitar riffs, saw the band through several line-up changes until they came across Kelly Newton who supplied them with not only the unique and powerful vocal style they needed but also a very emotive lyricist. The band then wrote and gigged around the UK as a duo until long time friend John Baker, bringing a fresh angle on programming as well as being a talented keyboard and guitar player, joined early in 2003 and the band now felt complete. |

The track was a collaboration between Perry and Silver Screen's Cris Miller. In 2005, the band's website (www.melodyguild.com) went offline and nothing more has surfaced from them since.

Link | 1 | 1 | Jazz Poets Society | Jazz Poets Society | Jazz Poets Society | Jazz Poets Society is a band that grew out of a Richmond, Virginia poetry collective that was sparked by Patrick Mamou in the early 1990's. From informal poerty sessions in a tiny downtown apartment, JPS emerged as a potent and energetic force in the local scene. The Underground Railroad (a Richmond, VA poetry club) was the bands laboratory, it's home, it's catalyst and even it's meal ticket! It is clear now (looking back) that "The Underground" was critical to the band's success and instrumental in molding the band's sound and identity. During these early days, JPS, like the new poetry movement itself, was still seeking to define itself, so things were fluid to say the least. After numerous, rapid lineup changes, the focus shifted off of the poetry, somewhat, and "Hip Hop with a live band", (a band that now had permanent members), became the standard of the group from then on. The main core of three poets (Patrick, Martin and Nyaze) became JPS's public faces and the leaders of the group. The musicians that made up the rest of the band (a band which eventually came to be known collectively as Jim Thorne) usually included (at least) a rhtym section, with the occasional addition of female vocalists, keyboards, auxilliary percussion, and horns. By the time JPS finally got around to making it's first full length album, it's members included the lineup that you'll find on all of our CDs (that lineup can also be seen on the right side of this page). JPS was politically and socially conscious. With songs like "What if" (Lyrics -"What if...Rosa Parks had a car? What if..Jesus Christ was a superstar, What if... we didn't imitate Escobar, What if...Rosa Parks had a car?), they played a mix of jazz and hip hop at colleges, clubs and other venues throughout the US in support of the new album. The only lineup change that occurred after they put out their first album, was the loss of their bass player Eddie Prendergast who decided to leave JPS for a salsa band called Bio Ritmo right as JPS was going into planning for their second album. Eddie was quickly replaced by Joel Bennet and (aside from a few extended hiatusis) the band's members remained the same until the end of the group in 2001.Jazz Poets Society released two albums, got significant airplay on college and independent radio stations, did three major tours (along with promo appearances on TV and radio), and shot and released one music video that aired on BET and other music video outlets.

These original members were joined in 1978 by Ricky Jones, Johnny Caton and Gayle Reid. They changed the name to X-O-Dus to avoid confusion with a London reggae band, and aimed to give a new, young British sound to reggae. The ensemble was born in Milan in 2001. The chief aim of this camerata - which takes its name from the Sforza family, originating from Milan, of which the Sforza were the ancient lords - is that of promoting and diffusing among a non-specialist audience the Italian music of the Renaissance and the Baroque period. The repertoire includes pieces the author of which is ascertained but also anonymous compositions, both sacred and profane popular songs, celebration songs and finally pieces taken from the Baroque Opera, the meaning of which is clarified through short "guides to listening", useful to let the audience familiarise with this kind of music, so that it can be enjoyed more consciously and thoroughly. Each concert develops a specific subject; therefore, geografical as well as temporal crossings the border might occur. The pieces that are performed are always taken from original sources only, and never from transcriptions. The versions of the pieces the camerata presents are the result of a personal choice and taste, originating from the sincere wish to communicate a kind of language which is still alive.

Link | 1 | 1 | Ian Pace | Ian Pace | United Kingdom | pianist | Ian Pace (2) | Ian Pace is a pianist of long-established reputation, specialising in the farthest reaches of musical modernism and transcendental virtuosity, as well as a writer and musicologist focusing on issues of performance, music and society and the avant-garde. He was born in Hartlepool, England in 1968, and studied at Chetham’s School of Music, The Queen’s College, Oxford and, as a Fulbright Scholar, at the Juilliard School in New York. His main teacher, and a major influence upon his work, was the Hungarian pianist György Sándor, a student of Bartók. Based in London since 1993, he has pursued an active international career, performing throughout Britain, Europe and the US. His absolutely vast repertoire of all periods focuses particularly upon music of the 20th and 21st Century, including a wide range of works by contemporary British, French, German and Italian and other composers as well as the ‘classics’ of modern music by composers such as Boulez, Stockhausen, Barraque, Xenakis, Ligeti, Nono, Kagel and Cage. He has given world premieres of over 100 pieces for solo piano, including works by Richard Barrett, Luc Brewaeys, William Brooks, Aaron Cassidy, James Clarke, James Dillon, Gordon Downie, Pascal Dusapin, Brian Ferneyhough, Michael Finnissy (whose complete piano works he performed in a landmark 6-concert series in 1996), Christopher Fox, Volker Heyn, Wieland Hoban, Hilda Paredes, Alwynne Pritchard, Horatiu Radulescu, Frederic Rzewski, Thoma Simaku, Howard Skempton, Gerhard Stäbler, Serge Verstockt, Jay Allan Yim and Walter Zimmermann. He is renowned for ambitious and ingenious programming, and for his ability to surmount the most transcendental of pianistic challenges. He has presented cycles of works including Stockhausen’s Klavierstücke I-X, and the piano works of Ferneyhough, Fox, Kagel, Ligeti, Lachenmann, Messiaen, Radulescu, Rihm and Skempton. His many performances of the standard piano literature combine elements derived from historical performance research with a modernist perspective to produce often startingly original interpretations. In addition to his activities as a soloist, Ian is the Artistic Director of the ensemble Topologies and regularly plays with other soloists and groups, most notably the Arditti Quartet. |

After McBrien responded to an ad placed by founders Bill Stone (vocalist and rhythm guitarist) and John Potwora (drums) in a local Cleveland music weekly in 1994, the band released a 6-song Mini Album entitled "Molly" in 1995 on Revolting Eye Music. Although the band had recorded 2 full length CD's since then, a rotating door of rhythm sections players and various problems kept the band from reaching it full stride. The band was able to contribute to various compilations (specially the "Badfinger Tribute") even as shows became fewer and fewer.
