Link | 0 | 1 | Cincinnati Pops Orchestra | Cincinnati Pops Orchestra | United States | Cincinnati Pops Orchestra | Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, The The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra is a pops orchestra based in Cincinnati, Ohio, United States, founded in 1977 out of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Its members are also the members of the Cincinnati Symphony, and the Pops is managed by the same administration. Erich Kunzel, the Pops' founding conductor, continued to lead the Pops until his death on September 1, 2009. It was Maestro Max Rudolf who, in 1965, invited Erich Kunzel, then a young conductor on the faculty of Brown University, to join the Cincinnati Symphony. That October the Dartmouth graduate, who had been personal assistant to the great French conductor Pierre Monteux, conducted his first sold-out 8 O'Clock Pops concert. From this orchestra eventually sprang the Cincinnati Pops. It was the beginning of a modern orchestral legend and, 30 years later, the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra is still performing for packed houses in Cincinnati's Music Hall and gaining new fans the world over through tour performances and its recordings on the Telarc label. In May 2008, it was announced that the Cincinnati Pops received an invitation to play at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. They were the only American orchestra invited to play for the opening weekend. Erich Kunzel died in 2009. In December 2010, John Morris Russell was named as the new director of the Pops, effective September 1, 2011.

Link | 0 | 1 | Takeshi Fumimoto | Takeshi Fumimoto | Takeshi Fumimoto | Dieter Kovacic Dieter Kovacic (1973, Vienna, Austria)'s best-known alias is Dieb13, but he has also performed and recorded under the monikers Takeshi Fumimoto, Echelon, Dieter Bohlen, and Dieb 14. He sprang into action in the mid-'90s, as the Viennese avant-garde scene was picking up a momentum. His rare solo releases are complemented by a number of collaborations with the likes of Boris Hauf, Werner Dafeldecker, Martin Siewert, and Christof Kurzmann, all artists revolving mainly around the Viennese labels Charhizma and Durian. He came to music from the DJ side, instead of a more traditional musical background. He began to tweak cassette players and turntables in the late '80s, and later moved to the computer. In 1995, he applied for a studies program in electro-acoustic music at the Viennese College of Music, but was turned down. Ironically, his professional career started at around the same time. First, he self-released a cassette with Stefan Geissler titled Lomophonien. The label Rhiz invited him to contribute to the compilation Picknick mit Hermann (1997), and things picked up from there. Kovacic began to play in Kurzmann's Orchester 33 1/3, ©, Shabotinski, Radio Fractals, and Efzeg. In 1998, he contributed a track to Turntable Solos, a compilation released by the Japanese label Amoebic. Disguised as Takeshi Fumimoto, he resided amid Otomo Yoshihide, Christian Marclay, and Merzbow. For his first solo CD, Restructuring (2000, Charhizma), Kovacic remixed the contents of a whole experimental music festival. The album was released "open content" by the artist, a conscientious copyright objector. With this CD confirming his mastery of the turntable, he quickly moved to other pastures, stripping his sound of recognizable references to use record-less players and eventually the computer. In early 2002, For4Ears released Streaming, an electro-acoustic improv trio with Günter Müller and Jason Kahn.

The band consists of [a3960640] (vocals, bass, synthesizer, etc.), [a3960639] (guitar, vocals, etc.), and [a3960675] (drums, keys, etc.) and [a3960638] (guitar, etc.). All members are multi-instrumentalists and share not only a gift, but also a passion for creativity. Another facet of Linear Downfall is the outward expression of their music through a dynamic theatrical stage show. Fans are drawn into the adventure and encouraged to participate, releasing their own interpretation of the music and free-flowing expression. The name Linear Downfall was suggested by close friend and former band member, Nick Shepard. It seemed perfect to Chance, who was becoming increasingly frustrated with the corporate, cookie-cutter, commercial music industry.

Link | 0 | 1 | Nigel Broad | Nigel Broad | Nigel Broad | Nigel Broad [url=http://www.facebook.com/nigel.broad]Facebook[/url] As one of the original pioneers of the hardcore breakbeat/techno sound that was to eventually evolve into drum and bass, Nigel Broad, aka RELEASE, still creates pounding beats and relentless rhythms for today's discerning drum and bass connoisseur. Original tunes such as 'Dance in Eden', from the early days of the genre, still stand today, especially with the resurgence of that 'old skool' sound. Originally signed to the Contagious Records label in the UK during the early 1990's, RELEASE stood out along with other well-known artists of the time as pioneers in the rapidly evolving hardcore breakbeat/techno scene. Consisting of Nigel Broad and DJ Rush Puppie, the duo's first single, 'Dance In Eden', became a classic anthem, played at raves and festivals all over the UK and Europe during the summer of 1992. After several remixes by Interface and Sy-Kick, the 'Spirit of Space' EP was released to high acclaim. Another success, this 4 track EP carried the band into 1993. After parting ways with Contagious, the duo hooked up with Deep Seven Records to release their final single together - 'The Jungle' c/w 'Musical Movements', in late 1993.

Link | 0 | 1 | Maestro Harrell | Maestro Harrell | Maestro Harrell | Maestro Harrell Maestro Harrell is a DJ, producer, songwriter, singer and actor. Born in Chicago, Maestro began to sing and play the piano at the age of two, cultivating his passion for music through local performances. At the age of 7, Maestro landed his own television series on UPN, "Guys Like Us". He traveled to and from Los Angeles for filming on a weekly basis. During this time, he made numerous appearances on NBC's "Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, a total of six times by his ninth birthday. In 2005, a 13-year-old Maestro was signed to a record deal by super producer Jermaine Dupri, then VP of Virgin Records, and relocated to Atlanta to begin work on his debut album. When Dupri left the label to become VP of Island/Def Jam Records two years later, Maestro too made the switch. After a few years of sitting on the contract, he asked to be released. Maestro rebounded quickly, landing the prominent role of Randy on HBO’s hit series “The Wire”. Upon completing his tenure on “The Wire”, Maestro returned to Chicago to finish his high school education, where he was first introduced to the world of electronic dance music. He instantly gravitated to this rapidly growing medium, finding a new way to apply his musical talents. In 2009, Maestro was released from his IDJ contract, graduated high school, and moved to LA to further pursue both his acting and musical careers. Since moving to LA, Maestro has expanded his acting resume to include roles on network television shows such as “Cold Case”, “ER", and “CSI: NY”. Maestro has also taken his music to the next level by teaching himself the art of producing and writing songs. He has had the opportunity to apprentice under such top producers as: David Guetta, Ammo, Antoine Becks, John Dahlback, Chris Lake and No ID. Maestro’s first placement came in 2011, as a co-producer for Rihanna’s “Reb’l Fleur” perfume campaign with fellow producer Brian Kidd. That same year, Maestro began experimenting as a DJ, finding his niche in progressive and electro house music. Axwell, Steve Angello, Dirty South, Tïesto, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, U2 and Max Martin showcase the variety of inspiration that Maestro draws from. While recording in the studio, an offhanded comment about performing in night clubs caused him to realize that he had the resources to do just that. Maestro came to recognize that performing for the masses is his true passion. Within a matter of months, Maestro managed to open for some of the world’s largest DJ’s in the EDM community at Playhouse, Vanguard, Exchange, Roosevelt Hotel and Supperclub in Los Angeles: Skrillex, Nero, Chromeo, EDX, Stafford Brothers, Sultan & Ned Shepard, Those Usual Suspects and Bass Jackers. On November 4 2013, Maestro had his first release "Drop It" on Cr2 Records alongside Antoine Becks. Maestro's remixes have received top support from major acts in the EDM community such as Tiesto, John Dahlback, Dzeko & Torres, R3hab, Stafford Brothers, mync and Mortem Breum. His music has been played In major festivals such as Tomorrow Land and Tomorrow World and in top clubs like Hakkasan LV. Maestro continues to pursue his acting career. He currently plays Malik, a high school student on ABC’s hit sitcom “Suburgatory”. The sky is the limit for this 21-year-old artist and he shows no signs of slowing down!

Link | 0 | 1 | Hervé Perez | Hervé Perez | Hervé Perez | Hervé is a sound artist/composer from France, now based in Sheffield, UK. He works across genres, drawing from many influences in jazz, electro-acoustic, contemporary music, experimental electronics, free improvisation, immersive sound art and ancient techniques of sound therapy alike. Hervé plays the saxophones in several groups ranging from free-jazz, electro-acoustic improvisation and contemporary jazz. On the soprano saxophone, hervé focuses on extended techniques and abstract peripheral sounds structural to the instrument as a physical resonant object - although he has been known to play melodies at times... his work on alto merges more traditional, harmonic approaches with extended techniques and multiphonics. Sounding out, one of his current projects, is an exploration of architecture, outdoor acoustics and sacred sites. These recordings are documents of in situ improvisations, inspired by the spirit and the special characteristics of a location. Hervé's research approaches sound as vibration, the relation between sound and objects or spaces, architecture and the body. His use of field recordings and sound design is concerned with frequencies and harmonic relationships found in nature, how they relate to the physical world, and how the sounds of natural elements connect to our own resonances. He has developed a very personal way to process and sculpt location recordings to reveal their musical features and maximise resonance with the listener and their experience of sound.

Link | 0 | 1 | Marie Goyette | Marie Goyette | Canada | Marie Goyette | Born in Montréal, Marie Goyette studied the piano in Montréal and London. After residing in Europe, she moved to Berlin in 1989. Inspired by the city's lively and unorthodox art scene, she started a second career and expand her activities from traditional concerts to the fields of performance and radio art. She spent several months in STEIM in Amsterdam between 1991 and 1993 where she did experimental work with interactive tap shoes. She produced radio plays such as 'Transatlantique' (1993), worked on theatre projects and directed her own works. Marie Goyette collaborated with various artists like Christian Boltanski, Dagmar Krause ('A scientific dream and a French kiss') and Chris Cutler and started performing in Heiner Goebbels theatre works in 1994, the latest being 'Hashirigaki'. Moving between sampler and concert piano, Goyette freely interchanges fragments of her repertoire. With a musical ear for timbre, ambiance and timing, she combines in a fresh, improvised way these different elements in real-time concerts. Her performance in 'The Repetition' earned her the reputation of a "human sampler" - with an emphasis on "human".

In the beginning of the 90s, when he heard the mixes of Julian ’Jumpin’ Perez, Ralphie Rosario, Farley ’Jackmaster’ Funk and Frankie Knuckles in Chicago on WBMX radio the damage was done and back in Germany he bought his first Technics MK1210. He knew that he wanted to live his passion for electronic music in its full scope. It didn’t take long until Till West played his energetic house sets at various renowned house clubs in the cologne-area (e.g. Tiefenrausch, Apollo, Teatro,...etc). Together with DJ Delicious, his longtime schoolfriend, he released his debut single “Same Man” in January 2006 on their own Label Phunkwerk. You simply can’t deny the singles worldwide success. Two months prior to its release the single already made huge waves among DJ celebs such as Pete Tong, Eric Morillo, Arman van Helden,... and so on. In Addition to his love for music he also uses his extraordinary feeling for trends by running his own distribution company founded in 1993 with well-known Fashion Brands like Russell Athletics, Rocawear, Southpole, Sir Benni Miles, ... . Link | 0 | 1 | MistaJam | MistaJam | United Kingdom | MistaJam | Pete Dalton "A lot of radio DJ’s flop in the real world. MistaJam’s proved he’s NOT one of those DJ’s. No hype, just fact." Shy FX Broadcaster, DJ, Tastemaker, Businessman, Father, Ambassador, Presenter, Creative Director, Consultant, Trainer addict… some may say that Pete ‘MistaJam’ Dalton is a serial title collector. Others would say it’s a sign of his success and versatility. As a DJ forget trying to nail him to any one genre for he’s from the school of thought where only those who’ve perfected the art of mixing need apply. His masterful multi-genre sets span all the sounds of the musical spectrum and regularly cause people to get bunions at some of the finest clubs and festivals around the world, including fabric in London, Space in Ibiza, and Glastonbury Festival. It is this fearless approach to delivering the ultimate blend of music that has seen his army of supporters and profile grow at a speed that (a dramatically slower) Usain Bolt would be proud of. Not bad for a Nottingham lad, who first started in the game at the tender age of 14, cutting his teeth working with youth soundsystems and rap crews at local recording studios and learning valuable studio engineering and DJ skills, all the while studying for his GCSEs. Such strong work ethic and dogged determination to make a living out of music continued, as MistaJam immersed himself in the different facets of the industry, writing about and reviewing music for local magazines, sharpening his production skills and promoting events in his hometown, all the while holding down a 9-5 job at a credit card company. Talent scouted by a BBC Radio 1Xtra executive at one of his own Nottingham events, Jam joined the station in 2005 and quickly took advantage of his big break, swiftly moving up the broadcasting ladder. The multi-genre sensibilities he had developed from his soundsystem days were perfectly suited to high-profile radio slots and before long he found himself hosting the peak time evening shows he now occupies on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra. Such broadcasting talent was also externally recognised as Jam deservingly scooped his first Radio Academy Award in 2011 and went on to pick up a further two more in 2012; a fitting reward for all his years of hard work. Whether it is putting together cutting-edge music for his radio shows, compiling and mixing his own albums (his first compilation album with Universal was released in 2013, and hit the top 20 of the UK album charts) or curating line-ups for his internationally renowned Speakerbox events; there’s no doubt that MistaJam is one of the most trusted voices when it comes to breaking new music in the UK. MistaJam’s standing as a leading tastemaker has led to exciting opportunities away from Radio. In 2013 he was chosen by car manufacturer Jaguar to be the lead music consultant for the launch of their F Type car and his reputation was further bolstered with TV work both in front (as presenter) and behind the camera (as music consultant) on the show BBC 2 television show No Hats No Trains which i-D magazine described as “pioneering the future for Youth Culture”. No stranger to the world of Television, in his youth Pete was a member of the now legendary ‘Junior Television Workshop’ between the ages of 7 and 20. This early training led to roles in various TV dramas, soaps, radio plays and sitcoms over the years. He even trod the boards for a year in a musical, which ran at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s prestigious West End. However, having firmly scratched that itch, acting isn’t something he’s particularly keen to return to… unless of course Hollywood comes knocking. With his radio career going from strength to strength, 2014 is shaping up to be every bit as successful and exciting. On the DJ front, there are confirmed gigs across Ibiza this Summer as well as festival slots at Hideout, Creamfields, Snowbombing already in his diary. And with Speakerbox events planned all over the UK expect big things from MistaJam this year. As his ultimate goal is career longevity, there’s no sign that MistaJam is going anywhere: “MistaJam, is the golden boy of Radio 1 boss Ben Cooper, having just begun his own two hour Saturday night show… But he is also taken seriously by his musical peers.” Ian Burrell, Independent Hear MistaJam on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra on Saturday from 7pm - 9 pm, and on BBC Radio 1Xtra, Monday to Thursday between 7pm-10pm.

Link | 0 | 1 | Drown In Frustration | Drown In Frustration | Germany | German hardcore band | Drown In Frustration | German hardcore band active from September 1995 to April 2007. Biography: Drown Frustration was founded in September 1995 in Bruchsal, South Germany. The initial members were Ralph (bass), Steffen (guitar), Jens (guitar), Hilmar (vocals) and Michael (drums). Their first step was a 4-track-demo tape in 1996, which was released for some tape compilations and friends. The feedback was pretty cool but shit happened and after a few months singer Hilmar left the band. This was "Drown In Frustration" part one. The band searched for months and finally they found André from a local band, and he joinded the band as new singer. In 1998 they released a 7" called "Already Fallen" on Pateline Industries. This was more of an old school style like 'Ignite meets By The Grace Of God' kinda style. In 1999 the next release on Pateline was a split 7" with a Swedish band called Crowpath. So in late 1999 the owner of Pateline Industries, Thorsten Mang (former bass player of German band Pole*) became a father and brought the work with his label to an end. "Drown In Frustration" part two. So another super long period began to find a label to release their upcoming EP. Every label loved the songs but no one wanted to put it out. Anyway, after a few months Drown In Frutration found Lars Hoffmann from Defiance Records. He decided to release the band's EP "The Noise Reveals What Is Real" in spring 2000. The EP had good reviews in magazines and the band played a lot of shows, met a lot of people and enjoyed the life on the road, especially at their first England trip in 2001. Back from England Steffen left the band and "Drown In Frustration" part three was done. Then Drown In Frustration felt in a deep coma for months. Ralph joined a band called Ambrose as bass player, Michael skated all day, André worked hard for his diploma and Jens chilled and chilled. Everybody took a break of the band. But Michael and Andrè worked behind the scenes and watched out for a new guitar player or drummer. In March 2002 they found a dude for the rhythm section. They recorded some songs to do some promo for ther long planned "Love Kills" album. But shit happened again and after a few months in December 2003 Drown In Frustration kicked the new drummer out of the squad. In September 2003 Armin joined the band and Florian replaced Andrew in spring 2004. Anyway two years after Drown In Frustration was a five piece rock band again. In April 2007 Drown In Frustration came to an end. Their members started a new band called Man The Change. |

Link | 0 | 1 | Philip Sparke | Philip Sparke | United Kingdom | British composer and musician | Philip Sparke | Philip Allan Sparke British composer and musician (born 29 December 1951). Philip Sparke was born in London and studied composition, trumpet and piano at the Royal College of Music, where he gained an ARCM. It was at the College that his interest in bands arose. He played in the College wind orchestra and also formed a brass band among the students, writing several works for both ensembles. At that time, his first published works appeared - Concert Prelude (brass band) and Gaudium (wind band). A growing interest in his music led to several commissions, his first major one being for the Centennial Brass Band Championships in New Zealand – The Land of the Long White Cloud. Further commissions followed from individual bands, various band associations and the BBC, for whom he three times won the EBU New Music for Band Competition (with Slipstream, Skyrider and Orient Express). He has written for brass band championships in New Zealand, Switzerland, Holland, Australia and the UK, including three times for the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall, and his test pieces are constantly in use wherever brass bands can be found. A close association with banding in Japan led to a commission (Celebration) from and eventual recording of his music with the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra. This opened the door worldwide to his wind band music and led to several commissions, particularly from the United States. In 1996 the US Air Force Band commissioned and recorded Dance Movements, which won the prestigious Sudler Prize in 1997. In September 2000 he was awarded the Iles Medal of the Worshipful Company of Musicians for his services to brass bands. In 2005 Music of the Spheres won the National Band Association/William D. Revelli Memorial Band Composition Contest. In 2011 he received the BUMA International Brass Award for his contribution to brass music. His conducting and adjudicating activities have taken him to most European countries, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Canada and the USA. In May 2000 he took the major step of becoming a full-time composer by founding his own publishing company, Anglo Music Press. The company is devoted to publishing his brass band, concert band, fanfare band and instrumental publications as well as recordings dedicated to his latest works. |

Link | 0 | 1 | Lesego Rampolokeng | Lesego Rampolokeng | South Africa | Lesego Rampolokeng | Lesego Rampolokeng was born on 27 July 1965 in Orlando West, Soweto when South Africa was still under apartheid. The violence of this state system and the opposition it provoked, with all the accompanying effects (so-called collateral damage), shaped him from childhood. His father, exhausted by the arduous work in a platinum mine, died so early that he never had a chance to get to know him. His mother, who worked as a toolmaker in a factory, brought him up single-handed. He was raised a strict catholic and, in an interview with the Swiss weekly newspaper "WochenZeitung", chose the use of images from the bodily sphere as an extremely direct means of depicting the results of violence: "Catholicism wants to make people sterile and clean. Bodily functions, the whole of sexuality, are associated with shame. The Virgin Mary is this totally untouched figure. Not to mention the halo above the head of the tiny, oh so sweet, child: complete purity. When we look at the role religion plays in oppression throughout the world… even apartheid was vindicated using the Bible. The colour of my skin - which I consider beautiful - is associated with excrement. I have to ask myself where that comes from. The answer lies in the Catholic Church." His mother remarried and the family name changed to Rampolokeng. Lesego (which means "all the best") was eleven at the time of the schoolchildren´s revolt in the townships of Soweto in which hundreds were shot dead. He too rebelled. He began writing at an early age, and attributed this to his situation of oppression: "I was brought up to celebrate my own slavery. To me, what people call poetry became the means of explaining the world to myself." His step-father made him study law at the University of the North, but he broke off his studies, founded a family and, in a desperate effort to lead a middle-class existence, he forced himself to work for all of seven months at the stock exchange in Johannesburg. But it was to no avail: Lesego Rampolokeng is a poet, and he leads the life of a poet. He went public with his poetry: at first in schools, university lecture halls, on street corners, in meeting halls, at poetry readings, festivals and events - in South Africa, the neighbouring states, in Europe and America. In his introduction to "Horns for Hondo", published in 1990 by Cosaw in Johannesburg, Andries Walter Oliphant wrote about the background to Rampolokeng´s poetry: "This world of human degradation \... does not simply involve a hierarchical classification of human beings. It also refers to a situation in which people are tramped upon and trampled. The social order is premised on violence and murder. Every sphere of social life and every turn in history is haunted by horror. Walter Benjamin´s thesis that ´every document of civilization is simultaneously a document of barbarism´ is particularly apt with regard to Rampolokeng´s work. The stains of dehumanisation, splashed over and seeped into the social and psychological fabric of South Africa, are made visible in his poetry (...). It is therefore not surprising, that the overriding tone of Rampolokeng´s work is revulsion and condemnation of this dehumanising order. His denouncement couched in biblical and juridical imagery is unremitting. This is so, even when he strikes a humorous cord. The only irony he allows himself and us is directed at those who pose as literary arbitrators." To begin with Lesego Rampolokeng was celebrated primarily as a rap poet, but now he increasingly rejects this limited categorisation of his work. In an interview last year with the Swiss weekly paper "WochenZeitung" he said: "In the late seventies I was involved in the Black Consciousness Movement. We wanted first to break the mental chains, to give up our slave mentality. Without this there could be no political liberation. We were interested in what people like Malcolm X, Che Guevara and Ho Chi Minh did. And so the things sung about by Gil Scott Heron in the USA and Linton Kwesi Johnson in Britain were important to us too. But that doesn´t make me a rap poet. \.... We live in a global Potemkin village. Political hip-hop is no longer important to young people in South Africa. \... At the beginning hip-hop had something to say, it was on the margins of capitalist society. But when it started gaining in significance, it was absorbed by the system. That bothers me." But Rampolokeng does work with rock and hip-hop musicians, with DJs such as Temba, and with different musical formations such as the "African Axeman" with Bafana Khumalo, or in Berlin with Souleiman Touré. He is not interested in "this street corner materialism" which makes rappers keep asking for payment. As a poet he earns his livelihood from readings (especially in Europe), writing for the theatre, for example "Faustus in Africa", which was written for the Handspring Puppet Company and performed with great success in Europe in 1995, and sometimes by writing on commission. But he is not one to talk about poetic freedom: "Freedom? To me poetry is Sisyphean labour. I know that everything I try to handle is far greater than I could ever be. But maybe the very impossibility of winning the battle is what attracts me to it." His works bear witness to this: the courage to clearly name the horrors, the gut feelings of participation in the depicted events and the strength to concentrate this into poetic form. No matter how clearly Lesego Rampolokeng defines the contours of formal perception, the reconstructed occurrences are acutely palpable and always expose the inherent aberrations. This is what makes the texts so uniquely relentless - relieved only by the strict form that creates distance, giving the reader space to take up a position and see these "fruits of anger" as they are: an expression of the unbearable. Many of his poems can be appreciated in German thanks to the dedicated work of Thomas Brückner who has translated them, capturing their mood and atmosphere, their emotions and imagery. On the relationship of the readers and listeners to his poetry Lesego Rampolokeng says: "People like things that are beautiful. I don´t write about beautiful things. When you see how teenagers attack a man who sells milk and hack off his arms to slurp yoghurt from the open wounds, that´s nothing beautiful. How can people like it when I write about things like that? The Nobel prize winner for literature, Nadine Gordimer, wanted to drag me off to her personal analyst; she reckoned I was sick. Is it me who´s sick, or the things I write about?”

Link | 0 | 1 | Nick Burbridge | Nick Burbridge | United Kingdom | Nick Burbridge | After six McDermott’s 2 Hours albums (vs Levellers or in their own right) singer-songwriter Nick Burbridge joined forces with multi-instrumentalist and producer Tim Cotterell to release the unplugged album of articulate contemporary songs rooted in the traditional Celtic idiom which many have awaited for so long. Gathered is a lyricist’s delight, as would be expected from a writer fluent in many forms: a profound and coherent expression of all kinds of implacable commitment, personal or political, related with a tender and unflinching hand. Here, Burbridge’s dark-humoured, melodic pieces, his genuinely weathered voice and singular guitar-playing, are augmented only by the subtle shade and impetus of Cotterell’s sensitive interpretation on a range of instruments. It is an album to sit down with late into the night and listen to repeatedly, which nonetheless abounds with fragments of jigs, reels and other tunes. This is a fruitful partnership. Burbridge’s career spans decades, writing songs covered by artists from The Levellers, to Damien Barber, Paul Downes, and Maggie Boyle, and formerly published by Joe Boyd; niche poetry collections, fringe theatre plays and Radio 4 productions; a political thriller, and a non-fiction book on Northern Ireland launched at the House Of Commons. Cotterell, meanwhile, who both recorded and mixed this record, is one of the younger generation of Alt Folk specialists, a director of Brighton’s Access To Music, mainstay of Martha Tilston’s The Woods, Legacy and Tricks Upon Travellers, session player for the Oysterband’s John Jones, among many others, and a vital cog in the eccentric McDermotts machinery. There is no need to resort to the publicist’s hyperbole here. Gathered comes, simply, with a challenge. If any similar album tackles inner and outer struggles so artfully yet honestly, showing such respect for the tradition yet awareness of contemporary forms, then let this one be rolled aside. If not, let it take its rightful place in the idiom where it belongs. “Great melodies, acerbic, canny lyrics” (fRoots). “The sound of a musician and songwriter at a creative peak” (R2)

Her critically acclaimed releases feature rich textures and nuanced melodic structures that are evocatively moving and intimate, and yet celestial in scope. Nature sounds, various acoustic percussive elements, and subtly crafted electronic sub-components all add eloquence to her sonic palette and choreography. With several releases over the last couple decades, Madhavi Devi continues to explore her innate sensitivities towards musical conversation, evolving sound as a vital connection to personal discovery. As a visual artist, Madhavi creates beautiful atmospheric spaces, inspired mostly by Indian and Asian ancient art, spiritual culture and other natural influences especially intended for meditation, divine development, healing, and support of inner wisdom and truth. She appears at events, meditation and other retreats, lectures and conferences world-wide in her unique mission of cultivating peace, compassion and self-awareness through her art and music. It is Madhavi Devi's intention to share the beauty, the divine, and unique inspiration as musical meditation and spiritual discovery. This pursuit has led Madhavi Devi on many journeys that have ranged from the shores of the western United States, collaborating with artists on Spotted Peccary Music and creating musical meditation performances to the heights of the Himalaya Mountains, trekking through Tibet and Nepal with fellow artists Deborah Martin and Mark Hunton, unearthing inspirations as the foundation for the SPM release TIBET. She has explored the most sacred inner contemplations of womanhood through her widely-received self-released PREGNANT PAUSE, and has fused the harp with electronic sound-spaces on numerous tracks and projects, all while examining the spaces between the notes... and the spaces between the worlds.

The goal is a music that erases the lines between improvised and composed, pop and avant-garde, good and bad. He hopes this music will satisfy the body, the mind and, above all, the heart. He has worked as a performer, composer, and organizer in Montreal and has toured in North America, Europe, and Asia. He has performed and recorded in a vast array of contexts with the most important members of Montreal's creative music community as well as with internationally renowned musicians like Marshall Allen, John Butcher, Joe McPhee, Steve Lacy, Hassan Hakmoun, Tristan Honsinger and Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Link | 0 | 1 | Geoff Barrow | Geoff Barrow | United Kingdom | Geoff Barrow | Geoffrey Paul Barrow Born: December 9, 1971, Walton in Gordano, North Somerset, England The producer behind Portishead, Geoff Barrow got his start as a tape operator at Bristol's Coach House studio during sessions for Neneh Cherry's second album, Homebrew. Barrow co-produced "Somedays" on that album, hinting at the sound that was to make Portishead such a phenomenal success. During Portishead's popularity, Barrow produced numerous remixes for artists such as Massive Attack, Paul Weller and Earthling. Most of these remixes were credited to Portishead. Since Portishead's last commercial releases, Barrow has continued to contribute remixes and production work under his own name and various pseudonyms (including the Portishead moniker). As "The Jimi Entley Sound", he was behind a 300-copy limited issue cover of "Apache" (backed with "Charlie's Theme") on the Espionage label. As "Fuzzface", Barrow produced (with Tim Saul) Stephanie McKay's 2003 debut album. As "D.R.U.N.K." he remixed the first single from Earthling's long-awaited second album, Humandust (2004). In 2002 he co-founded [l=Invada Records] in Australia with Katalyst (Ashley Anderson) and Fraser Stuart.

His only formal training consisted of two weeks of private lessons, at which point he simply began to play along with records by Led Zeppelin, the Cult, and Metallica and dived into the world of high-school rock bands. He went through everything between alternative rock and heavy metal, adding influences from folk guitarists like Harry Chapin, speed metalists Slayer, dreamy alt-rockers Gastr del Sol, and free improv legend Derek Bailey along the way. Worker by day, Chris Rosenau has been involved in an increasing number of projects by night ([a=Telecognac], [a=Pele], [a=Vermont]) and learned the tricks of the trade in engineering recording sessions. In 1999, [a=Jon Mueller] formed the label [l=Crouton], and since then Rosenau has appeared on many of its releases, exploring more experimental paths on guitar (electric or acoustic) and electronics. Now he co-directs the label.

"Rare music from a legendary trio – one who cut two studio albums in the 70s, and reunited for this smoking live date in the early 90s! The lineup is heavy on percussion from Huseyn Ertunc – and from both Phil Musra and Michael Cosmic – although both of those players handle plenty of reeds as well – making for a performance that's really incredible – as the musicians shift effortlessly between instruments, often with this sense of urgency to find new expressions – a creative free play that almost takes us back to the early days of the AACM! Cosmic also plays a bit of haunting organ – and titles include "Creation" and "I Love You God" – both as spiritual as they sound!" FOR TRIO with Okay Temiz... "1st time ever that two of the most legendary figures from the Turkish jazz scene (Okay & Ertunc) play/rec. together, so really an historic event ! classic pn trio + some more ethnic/otherworldly moments. special front cover artwork by Huseyin, who's an acclaimed painter (he designed also the old Intex front covers...), especially in his own country."

Died on 14.11.2011 in the age of 75 from a heart attack at the metro station "Улица Дыбенко". MC Вспышкин was a Russian MC, electronic dance music producer & radio host from St. Petersburg (ex-Leningrad). He was not a celebrity most of his life and became famous in his old age as a fronmant of big 'raves' (dance events) "Вспышка" and "Колбасный Цех" promoted by Radio Record. These events made his persona & freaky image nationally known (an old crazy raver with a big biker-style white beard, dressed in Superman-like comix-styled colourful clothes). His trademark voice and vocal style also became a part of his recognisable image. After the huge success of his first appearance, a comic dance project «MC Вспышкин & Никифоровна» was started, which became well known in Russia. At the international dance scene Вспышкин is known for his collaboration with [a=DJ Aligator]. Their song «Davaj Davaj» («Давай, давай») was released as a single and as a track on «Music Is My Language» album. MC Вспышкин is often credited as the first Russian DJ, who was mixing records on the pathephones in his early years. But this is just a funny legend invented by his promoters. Actually in the '70s Vladimir Turkov was in the Rock movement and worked as an administrator for Rock band «Кочевники» («Савояры») from St. Petersburg. Vladimir also mentioned himself as an organizer of some [a=Владимир Высоцкий] concerts. MC Вспышкин was true to his freaky image even in everyday life. He was often seen in his crazy clothes on the streets and in the public places. He didn't leave his freaky image even when meeting with the city's governor. MC Вспышкин was friendly with the fans and often took photos with them in the city.
