Link | 1 | 3 | 2 Alive | 2 Alive | 2 Alive | 2 Alive is a project from Slovenia created in 1996. It featured the rapper Goran Bilbija and the female vocalist Vivian Trebičnik. The group was licensed by the records company Megaton Records. In 1996 they released their first album called 2 Alive, which was very succesful in Slovenia. The biggest succes were Oprosti Mi, Nekje Daleč Stran and Vzela Bi Te. English versions of these tracks (Tell It To My Heart and In The Sky) were released in Germany under the label ZYX. None of the above records were released as singles in Slovenia since the local market (2.000.000 million inhabitants) cannot consume large quantities of singles... However in 1997 there was a single release of the song Še Eno Noč. On this single the rapper Goran was not present anymore. He had left the group and gone to Italy to pursuit his handball career. After this single release Vivian had to rename the group's name to 2 Alive Vivian and in 1998 she released the album entitled Čas Za Ljubezen also under Megaton Records. In the year 2000, a remix of Iluzija was released, and a year later came a track called Vrni Se, this time under the name of Vivian only. The 2002 release was called Vzemi Me and last year's Noč In Dan was the last we heard from Vivian... In the meantime Vivian got pregnant, and it is still not certain whether she will return to the music business afterwards... Along with the group 4 Fun, 2 Alive were the beginners of Slovenian Eurodance and one of the most played artists in Slovenia clubs ever.

Link | 1 | 3 | Joe Boyd Vigil | Joe Boyd Vigil | United States | Joe Boyd Vigil | While studying film and video production at the Massachusetts College of Art in the Studio for Interrelated Media program, JBV soon found that he took more pleasure from the creation of his soundtracks than the visuals. Some of his later film projects prominently featured many dark or totally black scenes that forced the audience to focus on the sound exclusively. Joe Boyd Vigil's first venture into professional music production after college came about when he was hired by Turner Network Television through Bair Tracks to design several tracks of music for promos and commercial bumpers. In 1997 he was approached by Toonami to begin producing music for the revamped Toonami programming block on Cartoon Network. He continued to produce new music for the network until some time in early 2002. During this phase of his career (1997-2002), he produced close to a hundred tracks for Turner, dozens of which were featured prominently on Cartoon Network during the Toonami programming block. Some were made available on the official Toonami website for download, while a CD of expanded remixes was released on the CD Toonami: Deep Space Bass in 2001. Also, in 2003, DJ Clarknova took old, new, and unreleased Toonami tracks, several of which were JBV's, and mixed them into the 21-track Toonami: Black Hole Megamix.

He creates his dark yet beautiful electronics in a recordstudio 2 floors under where he sometimes just walks in, locks the door and comes out (totally desorganised) after some days ... or even weeks. In a weird state of trance ideas pop into his mind (so he says). Once this process' started he physically connects cabels to his body and records waveforms. Waveforms he shapes and triggers and later uses for the creation of his music. His debut 12" (St.Anorak) was produced within the last 3 years and mirrors his creativity and interest in electronic music. He's definitely a one to watch and who knows, you may have met him already ...

Christian Schoppik composed and played all the music, Katie Rich whispers, recites and sings. Together they make astoundingly beautiful folk with a rich instrumentation leaning towards the atonal spectrum. Instrumental wanderings stand alongside Nico-esque poetry tales. Christian plays the accordeon and in some songs guitar and flute. Inspired by hierophants like Nový Svět and David Jackman, solemn song fragments (a lot of old greek rembetiko-recordings) are modified and looped, with additional instruments and voices being integrated later on. His music has been described as “surreal folkcollage” and “german hauntology”.

Mick Ronson on guitar, Trevor Bolder on bass, Mick Woodmansey on drums and Mark Carr Pritchard on guitar, Arnold Corns was one of Bowie’s side projects at the time and something of a dry run for Ziggy Stardust. This collaboration released three tracks - early versions of "Moonage Daydream" and "Hang Onto Yourself" and the song "Man in the Middle". The name "Arnold Corns" was inspired by Bowie's favourite Pink Floyd song "Arnold Layne".

Link | 2 | 2 | Pull Out Kings | Pull Out Kings | Atlanta | Pull Out Kings | Zach Solem, Z. Marr PULL OUT KINGS started in 2007 as a series of late-nite jam sessions featuring Z.Marr of COMBICHRIST, and Zach Solem and Ben Thomas of SLOWEARTH. In search of a "ridiculous diversion" from their "extra serious" music, these sessions found Z., Zach, Ben, and whoever happened to be at their studio that night getting chemically enhanced and tweaking knobs until the sun came up. The resulting bass and beat driven tracks showed potential, but were put aside for future use, and in typical producer-workaholic fashion, forgotten about. Two years later, Z. and Z. revisited the sessions following a long night in the studio, and discovered the foundation for a whole new project. A moment of female inspiration yielded an instantly memorable name (thanks Tara!), and soon after things started moving a lot more quickly. Having composed the initial group of demos, Z. and Z. felt they needed a little extra flavor to level-up the tracks and recruited local lunatic MC Penivek Arcade (CRASH LAB ENTERTAINMENT) for his spit and swagger. The group released their debut EP JUST THE TIP on January 24th 2012 on their own GZK imprint and are in the process of preparing tracks for a series of upcoming singles to be released through 2013 and a new EP/LP for 2014. POK has remixed tracks by diverse artists including RAMMSTEIN ("Du Hast"), IAMX ("Great Shipwreck of Life"), SKOLD ("Tonight"), COMBICHRIST ("Scarred"), AESTHETIC PERFECTION ("Devil's in the Details"), IMPERATIVE REACTION ("Surface"), and many others. Z. and Z. are constantly looking for new ways of weaving their particular brand of electro into their peers' music, regardless of preconceived genre bias. The future is a BRIGHT, SHINING, LOUD and FUN thing, and POK aims to make the beautiful music and F**K THE SH*T OUT OF IT! For up-to-date news follow PULL OUT KINGS on Facebook and Twitter, and check out Soundcloud for latest remixes and tracks.

Link | 2 | 2 | Nervous Curtains | Nervous Curtains | Nervous Curtains | Hailing from Dallas, TX, Nervous Curtains has been sharpening its post-punk synth rock since 2008. Consisting of Sean Kirkpatrick (vocals, keyboards), Ian Hamilton (keyboards) and Robert Anderson (drums), the band released Out of Sync with Time on Milwaukee's Latest Flame Records in 2010. 2012’s Fake Infinity dialed down the piano that defined much of its early material in favor of an expansive sonic attack of black space organ and jagged synthesizers. The band spent the subsequent two years supporting its second album, playing hundreds of shows, large and small. Nervous Curtains kept a low profile throughout the majority of 2014 while recording and producing its third album, Con, and other still-forthcoming releases. In the meantime, Kirkpatrick played synthesizer and piano on Swans’ To Be Kind. Con is the trio's most raw and confident album to date. The album plays up the rhythmic tension between pulsing synthesizers and live drums while merging these elements into a blast of defiant energy and enduring tunes. With this album, Nervous Curtains has created a space in which paranoia is a cultural commodity amidst a battleground of convictions and contradictions The band again worked with seasoned engineer Matthew Barnhart as well as This Will Destroy You’s Alex Bhore and received some co-production perspective and guest vocal assistance from Pinkish Black’s Daron Beck.

The Joona Toivanen Trio plays contemporary, intelligent, versatile, and above all lyrical jazz. They have a skilful grip on the art of improvisation and know how to deliver a great mix of original compositions with superb musicianship. They do so at times with a melancholic Nordic vibe and often an air of gladness and joy touches is laced through their material. The music of Joona Toivanen trio is considered lyrical and elegant but equally strongly individual and daring and has its genesis in the Finnish nature and draws from the its rich epic and folk tradition. Active since 1997, this ambitious and young threesome have an unassuming and natural attitude to their playing, and today are considered one of the most internationally successful young jazz groups in Finland. They have performed and toured around Europe, Australia and Asia at key festivals and exotic music spots, and are enjoying a wonderful reception wherever they go, filling the hearts of young and old with delightful amazement.

The song was written by Milton Drake, Al Hoffman and Jerry Livingston. Al Trace wrote and collaborated on several popular songs of the 40's and 50's including, "If I Knew You Were Coming I'd've Baked a Cake" and "Brush Those Tears From Your Eyes". In the start they were forced to use a drum machine because they weren't able to find a good drummer. In the beginning of 1994 they recorded their first demo "Santeria" which received good reviews. In 1995, a self-titled demo was released and it gained them a deal with Paranoia Syndrome. With a new label the 7" EP, "Resurrection", was released in 1996. Same year a 7" split with Aeternum was released. After the addition of a drummer, several line-up changes and the release of "Serenity in Chaos" the band finally broke up. Link | 3 | 1 | Jam Baxter | Jam Baxter | United Kingdom | UK rap/hip-hop | Jam Baxter | Jake Lloyd Jam Baxter knows how to do a million things, even though he proclaims to only be truly skilled at one. He can hold down twelve day benders like they are NOTHING; he can engage in conversation with any person – no matter the age, race, sex, political beliefs or shoe size; he can stage dive into a crowd of four teenage girls and come out completely unscathed; and he can wear trainers until they evaporate off his feet in a strange, synthetic plumage on Holloway Road. These are all good life skills, it’s just, if given the choice, he would far rather be writing hip hop music – everyday and every night and without exception. If you were to call Baxter and he was not all like “I am in the studio”, then you could assume that something is desperately wrong. That, or he is just down the road eating a fry-up, stumbling through a fish market, rolling around in a park with a tab on his tongue, or eating a Tesco’s lunchtime £2.50 meal deal at a busy bus-stop. As one fifth of UK rap super-ensemble Contact Play, SMB vice-executive and one third of brand spanking new rap super outfit Dead Players (watch this space), it is fair to say that Baxter is just about as prolific as they come. In reference to most things, but most commonly the consumption of alcoholic beverages, bags of stuff or making tunes, his musical allies often have to tell him to slow the fuck down and stop showing them up. There is no question that building remarkable albums, compiling mixtapes and leaving messy stains on stages is and will always be part of his fabric. Having set the ball rolling as the primary shareholder in Contact Play’s debut album ‘Champion Fraff’, and with the second release on the now gargantuan High Focus Records under his belt as a solo artist (Rinse Out Friday / Spack Out Monday), Jam Baxter looks set to claim the latter half of 2012 as his very own with ‘The Gruesome Features” and an impending release from his new crew Dead Players, made up of Baxter (obvz), LDN ZOO’s Dabbla and producer to the moon, stars and galaxy – Ghosttown. Baxter is taking a break from writing at the minute having churned out fifty seven songs in the last few months. But with a studio in his house, a gaggle of inspirational musicians surrounding his every move and a full-time work ethic, he is fucking allowed to don some slippers occasionally. With the apocalypse approaching, the planet in a state of frenzied panic and crippling financial collapse, many things are uncertain for the human race and mother earth. What we can be sure of is this – in one way or another, the future is set to be red, viscous, and strawberry flavoured. |

Link | 1 | 3 | SEC_ | SEC_ | SEC_ | Mimmo Napolitano SEC_ is one of the new talents of italian electro-acoustic music. Improviser and composer, he tries to drive the "musique concrète" in a new dimension, open to the darkest power electronics as well as to the research on feedback devices. His main instrument is the reel-to-reel recorder Revox, that he uses to warp different sound materials, creating unpredictable and grotesque joints, full of cuts, blasts and deep sounds. Continuously trespassing the borders between analog and digital, structured and improvised, narrative and abstract, SEC_ is rather interested in the relation between physicality of sound (and the generation of it) and what we can maybe still call “musicality”. SEC_ runs active collaborations with musicians like Jerome Noetinger (“Testacoda” LP), Mario Gabola (Aspec(t) duo), Dave Phillips (“Medusa” CD), Olivier Di Placido (“Rainbow Grotesque” LP), Ken Vandermark (Rara Avis band), Dario Sanfilippo (“Fame D’Aria” CD), Andrzej Zaleski (“Droga” CD), Andy Guhl, Francisco Meirino, Evil Moisture, Scott Sinclair... He has played concerts all around Europe in many kind of venues as well as in festivals. His piece “Outflow” has been rewarded with the PIARS prize in 2013.

Link | 1 | 3 | Carol Riddick | Carol Riddick | Carol Riddick | Carol Riddick began her career performing with local bands in Philadelphia. It was after her performance at a wedding that she met James Lassiter who managed Jeff Townes and Will Smith a/k/a "Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince". That introduction led to studio session work at Jeff Townes' production company, "A Touch of Jazz, Inc.". She began to tour with the duo, and was the featured vocalist at the wedding of Will Smith. Carol's local buzz quickly spread on a national level which resulted in her signing a recording contract with Motown Records. She received high acclaim from the dance single "Take Your Time", which was released in the United Kingdom. It received rave reviews and appeared on the charts for several weeks. She has written for and with a wide range of artists, including Terry Ellis of En Vogue. The song, "Tomorrow" which appeared on Terry's Debut CD "Southern Gal", was thought by many to be the crown jewel of the album. She was also the featured artist on the following projects: "Loving You" (Larry Gold presents Don Cello and Friends), "Can You Come Over" (Jeff Bradshaw's "Bone Deep") and "Float" (Grammy-nominated artist, Anthony Hamilton's debut CD, "Comin' From Where I'm From"). Carol's contribution to both Larry Gold and Jeff Bradshaw's projects expanded even further, as she co-wrote the songs on which she appeared. She can be heard frequently with Multi-platinum selling recording artist, Musiq, on "Soulstar", "Bestfriend", "Dontchange" and "Youloveme". Additional collaborations include: "Family Song (Reprise)" from Kindred The Family Soul's album ("Surrender To Love"), Jill Scott's ("Experience Jill Scott 826+") and Norman Brown's "I Might", which received medium rotation airplay throughout the country. Carol has worked with and/or shared the stage with various artists and producers including, Brian McKnight, Myron, James Poyser, Keith Crouch, Mario Winans, Malik Pendleton, Yolanda Adams, Herb Middleton, and a host of others. Her talents have been shared on stages throughout the world. Her debut album, "Moments Like This", was released in 2006.

Link | 2 | 2 | Jochem Paap | Jochem Paap | Netherlands | Jochem Paap | Jochem George Paap Jochem Paap (the Rotterdam artist owes the nickname "Speedy J" to his DJ skills) is unanimously considered to be one of the first techno producers to come from the Benelux. Together with people like Laurent Garnier, Aphex Twin, and Richie Hawtin he helped raise the genre just after it had escaped the Detroit delivery room. Since the early nineties, Speedy J has released on labels like Plus 8, Warp, and Novamute. But while techno developed into a dominating force on many dance floors worldwide, Jochem Paap, after the albums Ginger (1993) and G Spot (1995), turned left and headed for other exciting places. On Public Energy No.1 (1997) and A Shocking Hobby (2000), the sound wizard exchanged flowing, harmonious techno for a much more complex sound, filled with colliding samples, crackling rhythms, and tremendously thrilling turns. Speedy J has been continuously pushing the boundaries of electronic and experimental dance music. Blurring the lines between live performance and digital DJing, he fuses subversive electronics and peak time techno. Together with his partner in crime Chris Liebing, he started using Traktor and other software technology on four laptops with hardware such as drum machines and 303s to create a fully integrated set.

From a statement he made upon its release: "Sometimes I regard it as an excuse to play drums, guitar, electronic noises or hammer dulcimer. Often it was a vehicle to work with rock legends such as William Shatner, Caleb Southern and John Painter. Also, it gave me another reason not to sleep. But primarily, it helped satisfy my need to express some things musically - textures, orchestration, rhythms - things that don't always naturally fall into the standard three minute singer/song format. I love to paint sounds in an abstract way, discovering their effect after it's all put together."

Link | 1 | 3 | Shaarimoth | Shaarimoth | Norway | Shaarimoth | Biography Formed in 2004, – but tracing its origins back to 1998, – Death Metal outfit SHAARIMOTH emerged from the Norwegian underground and along with it so did new incantations of darkness, death and destruction. Both dark and ecstatic, furious and violent, defying genres, but at the same time paying tribute to its predecessors of the Black Art. Building upon its unique take of technical MORBID ANGEL-esque Death Metal with dark ambient interludes and Occult lyrical content, SHAARIMOTH is not music, it is ritual. A sonic vehicle of Occult Propaganda, created to manifest Dark Currents by the means of music. The first album named “Current 11” was released in 2005 via Carnal Records, and dealt primarily with Chao-Gnosticism as approached through the prism of ancient Sumerian tradition. The album immediately became an underground cult and the status was undoubtedly reinforced through years of worship. Following the album's release, SHAARIMOTH withdrew from the public eye for many years, only to break the silence now. To, hereby, announce its inexorable return and rebirth! The time of the Fire is drawing nearer, and new bonds have been forged in its flames. With one hoof firmly planted on each side of the Atlantic Ocean, World Terror Committee and Daemon Worship Productions are revealed as the new labels that will collaborate in the release of the second album named “Temple Of The Adversarial Fire”, making sure that its incantations will resonance loud and clear, far and near. SHAARIMOTH is the Truth that will burn your world to the ground. Forged in fire and shaped by The Master, SHAARIMOTH is the sound of a thousand raging hearts, the Devil's music indeed.

Link | 2 | 2 | s:cage | s:cage | Canada | S:cage | Stephen Seto Stephen Seto has been composing, recording and performing in the underground music scene for over twenty years. First as a member (bass guitar, guitar, synths and programming) of the experimental, dark electro-pop project ‘Parade’ from 1988-2000 and most recently as a solo electronic artist in the ambient, noise project ‘s:cage’. Seto’s s:cage project first appeared as ‘Splintercage’ in 1996 with the release of ‘Still Movement Bliss’, a 4 song ep on the Plan Eleven label. With the disbanding of Parade in 2000, he re-conceptualized the Splintercage project, taking it on a new and always evolving journey. With experience comes growth, time for change and transformation, Splintercage becomes s:cage, a delicate balance of ambient soundscapes, moody and layered textures and deep rhythmic explorations. Incorporating found sounds borrowed from nature and urban environments, this work merges beauty with anger, harshness with light, and dreams with nightmares, creating an atmosphere of electronic sound that draws from a variety of genres. Add to this a strong visual element created through original video compositions, and it becomes clear how this project has drawn from its roots in the experimental to offer us a vision. In 2003, s:cage signed to German electronic/noise label Ant-Zen and in May 2004, the debut s:cage album titled ‘Remote’, was released. The album, a distant observation of human fragility, was supported by well received live performances at major electro/noise festivals in Europe (Maschinenfest), Quebec (COMA) and the USA (Indoctrination) as well as performances in Japan and Ontario.

Link | 1 | 3 | Gershon Jackson | Gershon Jackson | Gershon Jackson | Gershon Jackson The “Legendary” Terry Hunter says, “If there was an House Music “Un-Sung”, Omni Music Solutions President and CEO Gershon Jackson would definitely be at the top of the list. Because of his body of work, he definitely deserves more accolades.“ Legendary Chicago Hip-House Producer/DJ Tyree Cooper says, “Gershon is one of the best writers and producers in the game, and we wont even talk about what he has done as an MC during the Hip-House era!! Insane. One of the best MC’s ever.” No matter who you talk to, most agree that Gershon has quietly built a reputation as one of the most diverse talents on the international house music scene today. As a underground club DJ and radio mix-master in Chicago in the early 90′s, Gershon came onto the house music scene under the mentoring of Chicago House Music legends Farley “Jackmaster” Funk and Tyree Cooper, playing in smoke filled clubs from the Courtyard, Club Music World on Chicago’s south side to the AKA Niteclub & legendary Warehouse alongside childhood friend Mike Dunn. During the height of the Hip-House music boom that originated in Chicago and gained global acclaim during the 90′s, Gershon (under the pseudonyms “DJ Shon, Shon Jackson, etc.) was considered by many to be one of the most popular stars of the genres era, often compared to the likes of Hip-House legends Fast Eddie, Doug Lazy and KC Flight. During which time he released several club anthems such as “Ya’ll Be Eazy”, “Shake That Body”, “Kan U Pump It”, “Borne 2 B Houze”, “Houze Muzik All Nite Long”, ”Sonik Boom Society” EP “Help Me Lord”. However, it wasn’t until 1994 while on a DJ tour in Europe that he decided to join the production company as a producer and songwriter for legendary house music super group Ten City. As part of the Ten City production team, he continued to write and co-produce numerous dance music projects. In 1995, as an artist on Big Beat/Atlantic Records and under the pseudonym “DJ Shon” Gershon produced and wrote underground Hip-House the BigBeat/Atlantic single “Rejoice”. Rejoice was well received in underground dance clubs all around the world. In 1995, Gershon followed up Rejoice with the sensational Kim English Anthem “Nitelife”, an international hit that reached #20 on the United Kingdom (UK) Pop-Dance Charts & #10 on the Billboard Dance charts. Gershon took a long hiatus from DJing and producing House Music, feeling that the local & international scene had become “redundant” and “self-serving”. “I would listen to what guys were doing, and it had no soul or feeling”. I just felt that it would only be a matter of time before house music turned on itself.” In 2005 he decided to return to the sound that he loved. But this time, he wanted to make a greater contribution to the movement by creating great music. As a result, Gershon has returned with a vengeance. During the past six (6) years he has been at the forefront of the international dance music scene, and as the president of Omni Music Solutions (USA) he has produced numerous records that have reached the top ten on most digital download stores around the world. Globally, Gershon has become highly respected as both a label executive and a producer with an extensive discography of releases on an impressive list of labels with dozens of his releases licensed to various dance compilation/commercial albums and mix CD’s, including some of the biggest franchises in dance music such as Defected, Shelter Records (South Africa) Soul Candi (South Africa), Purple Music (Switzerland), Clone Records (Netherlands) Ministry Of Sound, Seamless and Bargrooves just to name a few.

Instrumental arrangement verses natural groove. Chords or coincidence. Old-scool techno and schoolbook harmony. The lyrics symbolises an inner process against crank living and bad love. Link | 2 | 2 | The Magic Whispers | The Magic Whispers | The Magic Whispers | Yin yang Ana Laan (Rita Calypso) and Natalia Ferrán (Bathing Beauty) team up together as The Magic Whispers. They can be easily described as the real darlings of pop. Here Laan's dark, sensual, smoky vocals deliver more than just lovely notes (i.e. Rita Calypso) whereas Farran’s vocal fit well with the candlelight, subtler, delirious and hermetic tracks. Their terrific pedigree is enhanced here with the talents of producers Ramón Leal (=nice arrangements) and Mateo Guiscafré, who has wisely chosen a great set of songs, drawing from the likes of Po!, Girls at our best, Devine & Statton, Magnetic Fields, Ruth’s refrigerator, The Impossibles, Jenifer Jackson or Pacific, and paying tribute over the course of an entire album devoted to the missed girl-pop duos from another era. The Magic Whispers convey an attitude and inject disparate musical styles- art school pop, introspective folk, baroque easy listening, indie pop, Scottish pop, punk- into a fundamentally pop mold. There's a hint of irony, romantic lyricism, a bit of detachment, but most of all an underlying strength and self-assurance that brings new depths to the possibilities of pop duos. The tracks are carefully sequenced to chart a fractured tale about the desire for freedom, for authenticity. The Magic Whispers have an ethic that values personal and spiritual freedom above money. Conceived as an Anglo-american duo they have started their own chase towards a classic of pastoral pop that- mixes acoustic instrumentation with great and individual vocals. The overall sound is an audacious kind of richly textured, enigmatic guitar pop with an edge that magnifies instead of blurring the songs' strong emotional content.. There are whispering pop hits and the misty, lunatic, magic ones. (minimal, quiet songs of love and friendship, found and lost) . Yin and Yang has plenty of energy and lush melancholy a go go (check the squeaky clean and crisp vocals). What is Yin and What is Yang? Yin & Yang, Ana & Natalia are so entwined that one cannot exist without the other. They are irrevocably two parts of a whole. The basic properties of heat, brightness, activeness, outwardness, upwardness, hyper function belong to Yang (Natalia). The basic properties of coldness, darkness, stillness, inwardness, downwardness, hypo function belong to Yin (Ana). As long as Yin and Yang maintain their dynamic oscillating balance the life exists. This is the secret of this record. As you all may know the original meaning of Yin-Yang was the bright side (Yang) versus the dark side (Yin). Everything in the world can be described, explained and further divided into the Yin-Yang phenomena. Yin and yang oppose each other and at the same time have an interdependent relationship. Without Yang there is no Yin, without Yin there is no Yang. Is it clear now? The eighties were a good decade to be a teenager. We had the Young Marble Giants, The Dolly Mixture, Bad Dream Fancy Dress,Strawberry Switchblade, Girls at our best….There was a weird amalgam of styles and statures. But the nineties also offered beautiful balladeering mementoes you ought to treasure forever. Yin and Yang exposes songs that are full of small details rather than grandiose statements. There are breathy and seductive lullabies and dream pop, understated arrangements and charming vocals and bells and whistles and crispy guitars….To keep it simple you can imagine the MWs as the re-incarnation of Carousel, Popinjays, Marine Girls, The Would-be-goods or The Impossibles. Time for incense and peppermint.

Link | 2 | 2 | Oliver Coates | Oliver Coates | United Kingdom | Oliver Coates | Oliver Coates Oliver Coates is the winner of the Royal Philharmonic Society Young Artist Award 2011 and is internationally in demand as a solo cellist. This season he performs abroad in Shanghai, Salvador, Moscow, Eindhoven and Amsterdam. He will be appearing with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Ilan Volkov playing the Nico Muhly Cello Concerto, with Aurora Orchestra playing Shostakovich Cello Concerto No.1 in Shanghai Conservatory and playing chamber music with Angela Hewitt and Barbara Hannigan in Trasimeno. He is also an Artist in Residence at Southbank Centre, where his run of cross-arts events - Harmonic Series - has entered its third season. For the first time he will be programming music in the Hayward Gallery for its Light Show in 2013. The work he performs is closely aligned with a love for space, and different types of music-listening ritual. Oliver has worked with many of the great composers on repertoire for the cello including Helmut Lachenmann, Jonathan Harvey, Thomas Adès, Kaija Saariaho and Sofia Gubaidulina. He has commissioned new music and developed relationships with many of the leading composers of his generation. He has given premieres and recorded solo music by David Fennessy, Andrew Hamilton, Larry Goves, Emily Hall, Max de Wardener, Anna Meredith, Mark Bowden and Nico Muhly. Playing solo Bach and Britten on the cello is as important to him as working with artists such as Seb Rochford, Micachu, MF Doom, Mira Calix, Steve Reich and Jonny Greenwood.

Link | 1 | 3 | Anwyl | Anwyl | United States | Anwyl | Anwyl was a black / death metal band from Kansas formed in the late nineties, lasting until possibly 2004. The members hailed from Hutchinson, Independence, and Wichita, KS. In or around 1990 Blaspheroth formed Wichita death metal act Corpus Delecti, which Mikai later joined. The duo then formed Xaphan in 1997 which eventually became Anwyl. In the mid-90's Mikai Tepesh conjured several cassette only releases under the aliases Nephilim, Enkil, and Epitaph which even spanned as far back as 1988. After releasing a cd on American label NCM, Anwyl had a 7" and LP released by End All Life and Drakkar respectively, but the band fell apart before a second album (rumored to have actually been finished and slated for release on Osmose Productions) could surface. Sadly Krom passed away in 2011. Mikai currently plays drums in Hutchinson based death metal band Murder Ordained which for a time also featured ex-Anwyl member Olc.
