Link | 1 | 1 | Museyroom | Museyroom | New York | Museyroom | Museyroom’s beginnings can be traced back to 2003, when guitarist and singer, Jack Donovan, and multi-instrumentalist, Ben Cohen, began to write and record their own songs. Working in Ben's basement, they developed intricately layered pop songs on a four-track tape recorder using an old Casio keyboard, a tenor saxophone, and an acoustic guitar. The two bonded over influences ranging from The Strokes to Bob Dylan to John Coltrane, resulting in a musical eclecticism that is reflected in Ben and Jack’s earliest songs, which combine narrative-based lyrics with complex and nuanced melodies. After playing together in a series of bands, they met drummer Matt Coppola, and together formed what would become Museyroom—a name derived from James Joyce’s Finnegan’s Wake, which references a sort of alternate dimension that the group would soon create with its musical output, sonically mirroring an unexplored, variable universe. Their first release, a self-titled EP, was recorded over the course of a week in the summer of 2009 with singer Luke Rathborne at Williamsburg's Motel Studios. With the inspired addition of a Wurlitzer found on the sidewalk and a stripped down drum kit—the kick turned on its side and played like a floor tom—the suite of four songs is a lo-fi snapshot of the band’s sample-filled live set at the time. Over the past few years, the three musicians have been holed up in the studio, painstakingly capturing the breadth of their imagination in the form of a pop song. Blending delicate impressionist-inspired melodies with the rhythmic sensibilities of hip-hop, Museyroom’s forthcoming album, Pearly Whites, is a dense and ambitious work of rare quality. The threesome developed the songs on Pearly Whites over a three-year period while each was living in a different city. The challenge of that geographical separation aroused feelings of nostalgia and idealization, which seeped their way into the lyrics and sounds of the album. As a result, the record flows with intimacy and emotion juxtaposed with challenging rhythms and electronic soundscapes, making it a truly original experience that fully propels the listener into the Museyroom.

Link | 1 | 1 | CHRCH | CHRCH | CHRCH | Doom Metal, Psychedelic band from Sacramento, California The old and oft quoted adage about “the music speaking for itself” is not a callous or casual statement when applied to the Sacramento, California based doom quintet Chrch, who have been hard at work crafting their particular brew of sound since late 2013. There is no image or campy gimmick to uphold, only the humble continuation and glorification of those fundamental musical elements that first built and then sustained the genre and it’s offshoots over the course of decades. This purity and honesty comes across in a striking manner on the band’s debut ‘Unanswered Hymns’, a sprawling roller coaster of an album that plumbs the heights and depths of emotion, whether be it sorrow, loss, or redemption. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Patrick Hills at Earthtone Studios in Rocklin, CA, the recording exudes a warm, organic tone that draws the listener in to music heavily influenced by traditional doom, psych rock, drone, and ambience. Chrch cannily wields dynamic songwriting, musicianship, and raw power to spin a spellbinding tale of occult darkness that clashes with illuminating melodies and riffs drenched in grimy reverb. Minimalistic, indulgent, or straightforward, the music of Chrch is simply whatever the listener wants it to be. Link | 1 | 1 | yes we mystic | yes we mystic | Yes We Mystic | A five-piece group from Winnipeg, Yes We Mystic grabs ideas and aesthetics from all over the map and ventures to morph them into something entirely different. They take their favorite bits of folk, rock, and R&B, hurl strings and mandolins together with synthesizers, pedals, and samples, and come up with music that can mellow and groove but climb in an instant to towering, frenzied heights. Throwing opposites together creates a space. Yes We Mystic prides itself in living in these spaces. Yes We Mystic was born of necessity. After the harsh breakup of their high school band, front men Adam Fuhr and Keegan Steele picked up and started again; stole a name off a bus bench and began writing folk songs. These songs, born in bedrooms and basements, eventually became 2013’s Floods and Fires, an EP hailed by BeatRoute as “an album for any situation”. Cramming a full band into Adam’s parents van, they played those songs for two years at festivals and venues across Canada including performances at NXNE, M for Montreal, and Breakout West, sharing the stage with Dan Mangan. But then, as it always does, came change. The long time members packed it in and moved away. Tastes shifted. New members brought new ideas and new strengths. From this sprung stranger and bolder music; music that has captured audiences across the country while slowly overtaking the folk of Floods and Fires in live sets; music that brought one Toronto audience member, in between songs on a sweaty November evening, to loudly proclaim “This is the best band I’ve ever heard to come out of Winnipeg. Period”. Now comes the Vestige 7”. In Vestige, Fuhr and Steele, rounded out by Jodi Plenert, Jordon Ottenson, and Solana Johannson begin to reveal what they have long been planning; music with the same heart, but with a different face. By approaching genre as a tool rather than a barrier, a wider swath of sounds is available to convey the same style and emotion that they have valued since those bedroom songs. If Wood Wheel pushes the sonic boundaries that the band set up with Floods and Fires, then The Contest of Strength demolishes them. Currently Yes We Mystic are writing songs for their full length debut in a dank room above a pizza restaurant. That record will be produced by Jace Lasek (Besnard Lakes, Patrick Watson, Wolf Parade) in June and released in 2016.

Link | 1 | 1 | Clubs & Spades | Clubs & Spades | United Kingdom | Clubs & Spades | Clubs & Spades consists of two MCs ([a=Matic Mouth] & [a=Shinobi (11)]) and two producers / beatmakers ([a=Andy Nicholson (2)] & [a=Manakin]) with one aim, to create unique, original, artist-themed music for the masses. No strangers to the stage, each has earned their stripes in their chosen areas and now they have combined their efforts and love of music to create something far greater than the sum of its parts. After releasing a free introductory online album entitled ‘Stand Up’ and a follow-up E.P. called ‘Card Gang One’, Clubs & Spades have continued to consistently make music that is of its own standard, demonstrating that all they need is, what they came with! Opening stages for the likes of [a=Public Enemy], [a=Pharoahe Monch], [a=M.O.P.] and [a=Sister Sledge] has cleared away any clouds of doubt over whether they can carry their own. The four continue to execute without error, winning crowds over every step of the way. The body of Clubs & Spades is held up by its musical backbone, the production duo [a=Sticky Blood (2)]. After creating a very unique and artistic buzz with ‘Stand Up’ and ‘Card Gang One’, Sticky Blood have gone on to work with artists who are in favour of a more ‘individual, self-themed’ sound for themselves. Recent projects have seen them produce a range of material in various formats, for major-label based artists like [a=Tom Prior] or more independent ones, such as [a=Terri Walker]. Always looking to break down barriers and create new sounds by utilising sampling techniques or learning and playing live instruments, the musical backbone of Clubs & Spades certainly looks set to stand the test of time. Their unique blend of hip-hop merged with a rebellious pop/punk/rock sound produced through the use of a live guitar and drum kit, is what provides the audience with a fresh sound and sets them apart from the rest of any line-up.

Link | 1 | 1 | Black Peaches | Black Peaches | Black Peaches | Rob Smoughton is probably best known as a long-time member of Hot Chip and Scritti Politti, while his alter-ego Grovesnor has released a number of albums to critical acclaim. Now he unveils his new band, Black Peaches. A midway point between the swamp and the tropics, Black Peaches’ music is gloriously loose-limbed and strung-out: a psychotropic stew of country boogie, spiritual jazz and funk. With slide guitars, Latin percussion and shimmering keyboards, the Peaches sound is a cinematic experience, the soundtrack to a bar fight at the country disco or an incantation of the black arts. At other times they swagger with the easy confidence of Little Feat, Manassas, or Dr John to create a pulsating, unwinding groove for a hot summer’s day where no one is in too much of a hurry. Black Peaches is not just a sextet, but in the mind of its skipper, Smoughton, a destination where various strands of musical flavour and colour coalesce to form a heavenly brew, equal parts melody and groove, grit and bliss, sublimely tight and gloriously loose-limbed. Black Peaches demanded a band format so, Smoughton sent his initial demos to musicians he fancied roping in, like Nick Roberts, Grosvenor’s live drummer, and Charlie Michael (The Severed Limb, Shock Defeat), a master of Brazilian percussion. Smoughton had played with bassist Susumu Mukai in (Hot Chip frontman) Alexis Taylor’s live band. Duelling guitarist Adam Chetwood, is a fellow country and jazz fan and plays pedal steel too. Thomas Greene (Cold Specks) on keyboards completes a consummate line-up that added ideas to Smoughton’s demos, which he took away and wrote more parts for. Inspirations include ‘70s Nashville combo Barefoot Jerry and their guitarist Mac Gaden – that combination of southern soul and country coming together, with Caribbean or South American music seeped in. Steven Stills’ first post-Crosby Stills Nash & Young ensemble Manassas were a blueprint in terms of Black Peaches’ line-up, with percussion and pedal steel. Then from Brazil, the rhythm section of Baden Powell Sambas’ 1966 album Os Afro Sambas and the double guitar attack of the psych-tinged Novos Baianos, alongside Chicago’s funky post-rockers 5Style and Krautrock legends Can.

Link | 1 | 1 | Barbouze de chez Fior | Barbouze de chez Fior | Switzerland | Barbouze De Chez Fior | In 2005, four musicians hungry for new musical experiences decided to form a string quartet. They wanted to push the quartet out of its comfort zone, take if off the beaten track, and in collaborating with artists from different backgrounds, provide a new kind of sound laboratory for composers to experiment in. Thanks to their ever-expanding network of musical collaborations (The Young Gods, Pascal Auberson, Love Motel, Raphelson, La Compagnie Eustache, Daniel Perrin, Lee Maddeford, Epheire, Jean Rochat, Roland Vouilloz), the quartet's experience in various musical domains, notably in improvisation, has become richer and deeper, and the four eventually began writing arrangements for singers. In 2011, they composed their own repertoire and produced their first solo show, "Molecular Chicken Stew".

Link | 1 | 1 | OVTRENOIR | OVTRENOIR | Paris | Ovtrenoir | Post-Hardcore, Post-Metal, Sludge band from Paris, France Ovtrenoir might be a new name within the post-metal genre, but the band consists of members that have been around the block a few times. For instance, singer "William Lacalmontie" is known for his incredible photography, and "Dehn Sora" is perhaps best known for his musical output with "Treha Sektori", while "Julien Taubregeas" made quite a dent with "The Great Divide". Joined by "Angeline Seguelas" they recorded their debut EP “Eroded”. The milage of the individual band members shines through, as the music sounds strong, familiar and yet has a very fresh touch to the genre. This is post-metal/sludge on its best, and sounds stellar. A real treat to start off the new year. WILLIAM LACALMONTIE : Guitar, Vocals DEHN SORA : Guitar, Drones, Theremin, Back vocals JULIEN TAUBREGEAS : Drums ANGELINE SEGUELAS : Bass

Link | 1 | 1 | DefJim | DefJim | Wien | DEFJIM | DEFJIM formerly known as 'Jimmy And The Car Cassettes' is a feministic and anti-racist hip hop punk band from Vienna and UK. DEFJIM is the alias of frontman Jimmy Zurek as well as the name of his band. DEFJIM stands for: Discriminated Exploited Fellows Join In Music. Frontman Jimmy Zurek has English roots and Viennese blossoms. Already in spring 2012, when DEFJIM (Jimmy And The Car Cassettes) had the first jam sessions in Vienna, Jimmy refers to the band's music style as "Fake Detroit Punk", describing a mixture of no-wave with punk rock, hip-hop, techno, house and death jazz. Combining the sound of technoid electronic beats and real drums with impelling guitars and the voice of a feministic punk-preacher the listeners of DEFJIM are propelled into a lavish party mood, confronted with political contents at the same time. DEFJIM is the alias of frontman Jimmy Zurek as well as the name of his band. The DEFJIM live-band consists of: Jimmy Zurek (vocals, tenor-saxophone, trumpet and guitar) and Audiodevice (drums or turntables). For their stage performance they dress in sleek white navy uniforms and polished black shoes or in khaki scout uniforms. Choice of previous releases and concerts and useful information: Vienna Wildstyle Recordings and Jimmy Zurek already released the debut EP-single “Jimmy And The Car Cassettes“ on 12" vinyl and digital in June 2013, produced by Sebastian Schlachter and Umberto Gollini, mixed and mastered Patrick Pulsinger. The Japanese radio station Block FM Tokyo already played DEFJIM (under the old name Jimmy And The Car Cassettes) on the occasion of their first concert on the 21 of March in the Vacant in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. On the 26th ofJuly 2014 DEFJIM (under the old name Jimmy And The Car Cassettes) performed live in a trio-formation: Jimmy Zurek (vocals, alto saxophone, guitars, trumpet), Wolfgang Möstl (guitars) and Audiodevice (drums) at the Viennese music festival „Popfest Wien 2014“.

Link | 1 | 1 | Culture Killer | Culture Killer | Daytona Beach | Culture Killer | Florida natives, Culture Killer, have signed with Metal Blade Records and are preparing to record their full length debut. A hard-hitting metal unit from Daytona Beach, Florida, Culture Killer offers up a decibel-pushing blend of hardcore punk and death metal that invokes names like Terror, Hatebreed, and Killswitch Engage. Founded in 2013 around the talents of vocalist Ian Campbell, guitarist/vocalist Hunter Young, drummer Dylan Blow, guitarist Trevor Kopp. Previously, the band had released the “Denial” EP in 2014, and a single “Exterminate Filth” The ferocity of Culture Killer‘s music and lyrics make it apparent that this band has a goal and message, and that this isn’t directionless rage. The cover art for the “Exterminate Filth” single should make this quite obvious. Drummer Dylan Blow elaborates on the topic Culture Killer tackled with “Justice Through Retaliation“: “The song tells the story of a woman fighting a seemingly endless battle with spousal abuse. She reflects on the words and feelings that she once embraced; soon realizing that the man she loved was now her greatest fear. At the turning point of the song, she finds that her only chance of survival is to kill him.

President/CEO & Founder of Wyoming/Utah hip-hop recording label and artistic collective SUBROK RECORDS (www.subrokrecords.com), Fox is also an official representative and ambassador of the Hip-Hop Roots SLC chapter, a worldwide independent music & art syndicate celebrating the elements of hip-hop culture. Additionally, he is the Vice President of Marketing/Development/Design for independent clothing collective Snub Apparel (www.snubapparel.com), and the founding member, producer, and unofficial frontman of the midwest hip-hop outfit Rhyme Squad (www.rhymesquad.com). He is also an extremely tight affiliate of the Alive+Well movement (www.aliveandwellfamily.com). Fox has been killing shit since the year 12,002BC. Upon relocating his residence from Wyoming to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2011, Fox has since then built a reputable relationship among his fellow peers and hip-hop influences alike. Linguistically demolishing only the most popular of bars, venues, and events nationally across the US, Fox delivers incredibly passionate, intelligent and vigorously hard hitting lyricism over visceral neck cramping boom bap sample based production. His unique style is nostalgic of a concious and poetic small-town storyteller fused with an almost aggressive street mentality similiar to that the early 90's gangster rap era. He has shared the stage among some of the most influential names in hip-hop including Mac Lethal (Rapper/YouTuber), One Be Lo (of Binary Star), Casual (Hieroglyphics), Toki Wright (Rhymesayers), Scarub (Living Legends), Reef The Lost Cauze (Army of the Pharoahs), and many more. Link | 1 | 1 | Æmaeth | Æmaeth | Leeds | Æmaeth | Heavy, reverberating drones and bleak orchestral passages form the soundtrack to the independent, silent film The Roman. Æmaeth is the project of Owen Pegg (A-Sun Amissa / Hundred Year Old Man) and The Roman is his latest piece of film scoring. Pegg has also recently composed scores for The Raindance 10 minute short 2014 winner Man Can and Raindance 2015 'Dark Wave' entry To Catch A Butterfly." The Roman's 60 minute journey is dissected into 10 pieces and the stark atmosphere remains throughout, with fleeting moments of hope and light emerging from time to time. It's an altogether immersive experience, and one that works equally with or without the accompanying film and imagery. The bone-chilling soundscapes move almost in slow-motion, the claustrophobic tones are bordering on suffocating at times, but there is always sweet relief close at hand; a break in clouds and a crack of light for company. The record started life as a series of improvised drones and motifs played on guitar and piano to rough cuts of scenes during the film's post production. At this point the production was unravelling the story and, as edits were made and initial cuts started to filter through, the rough improvisations began to find their place within the context of the film. This process allowed for the gradual addition of further instrumentation and players as a ‘building-block’ process, where the mood and requirements for each scene dictated the direction of every movement. This allowed each piece to develop independently while simultaneously maintaining and even revisiting sounds over and over, creating themes for characters and a memory of the path already travelled. This idea is typified by the recurring saw-like bowed guitar which repeatedly breaks through, reminding us of what follows the two companions – death. Upon completion of the film, and its premiere on May 10th 2014, work began to piece the score together into a cohesive album in its own right. Further studio time was logged with long standing friend and collaborator Richard Knox (A-Sun Amissa / Shield Patterns / The Rustle of the Stars / Glissando) to hone and polish the individual musical ‘scenes’ into a flowing album that seamlessly moves between the delicate structured melodies and dense uneasy drones.

Link | 1 | 1 | Benjamin Hochman | Benjamin Hochman | Benjamin Hochman | Pianist Benjamin Hochman’s eloquent and virtuosic performances blend artistic bravura with poetic interpretation exciting audiences and critics alike. He performs in major cities around the world as a respected orchestral soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, working with a celebrated array of renowned conductors and colleagues. Described by The New York Times as a “gifted, fast-rising artist,” Mr. Hochman is an impassioned and intelligent exponent of diverse composers, from Bach and Mozart to Kurtág and Lieberson. He strives to express the essence of each composer’s works, resulting in interpretations that the Vancouver Sun described as“stylish and lucid, with patrician authority and touches of elegant wit where context allows.” Possessed of an intellectual and heartfelt musical inquisitiveness, Mr. Hochman frequently juxtaposes familiar works with the unfamiliar in his concert programs to help illuminate each work for the listener, a talent further illustrated by his thoughtful recorded repertoire. Winner of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2011, Mr. Hochman previously made his New York recital debut in 2006 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He subsequently established a vibrant and venerated musical presence in New York City through concerts with the New York Philharmonic and the American Symphony Orchestra, his Carnegie Hall debut with the Israel Philharmonic and a succession of prominent recital and chamber performances at 92nd Street Y. Following his debut with the Chicago Symphony in a Mozart Piano Concerto project with Pinchas Zukerman and Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, he returned at the invitation of Emanuel Ax to participate in the 2012 “Keys to the City” Festival. In September 2012 he made his Los Angeles Philharmonic debut at the Hollywood Bowl. January 2013 saw his third subscription series appearance with the Pittsburgh Symphony in performances of Ravel’s Concerto for the Left Hand conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, of which the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette remarked “He unfurled the music so gently, lending a grace to it I had not heard before.” In March 2014 Mr. Hochman performed a program of Variations by contemporary composers Luciano Berio, Oliver Knussen, Frederic Rzewski and the world premiere of Tamar Muskal’s Frédéric Variations presented by 92nd Street Y at SubCulture. Of this performance, Anthony Tommasini of The New York Times observed “… as I listened to the pianist Benjamin Hochman’s sensitive, exciting renditions of four contemporary works that explore the form of theme and variation (including one premiere), I kept thinking that classical music doesn’t get better than this.” This performance was also recognized by Mr. Tommasini as one of his top ten classical music events of that year. For his Kennedy Center recital debut in February 2014, this Variations program was equally well-received by Anne Midgette of The Washington Post, who commented “Hochman led the audience through this rugged, majestic landscape with such rhetorical authority that there was no hint of movement among his listeners when he paused between sections. The minute he was done, the audience launched immediately into ovations…” Highlights from Mr. Hochman’s 2015-2016 season include recitals at the Kennedy Center as part of their Fortas Series and with the Arizona Friends of Chamber Music, performing the complete works of Beethoven for cello and piano with Sharon Robinson, and a new work for violin and piano by Frederic Rzewski with Jennifer Koh at the Library of Congress. As a chamber musician, Mr. Hochman will appear with the Boston Chamber Music Society in September and October 2015, and March 2016, performing works of Haydn, Strauss, Beethoven, and Schubert. Under his trademark vein of compositional variations, he performs a program juxtaposing late Chopin works with works in similar genres by Adès, Saariaho, and Muskal for the Brattleboro Music Center and Detroit Chamber Music Society. In Detroit he will also play the Brahms Quintet with the Ariel String Quartet. Orchestral engagements include performances of De Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain with Kansas City Symphony, Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major with Omaha Symphony, Bernstein’s Age of Anxiety with Wroclaw Philharmonic Orchestra, and Mozart’s Concerto No. 27 with Greenwich Symphony in Connecticut. In February 2015 on the Avie Record label, Mr. Hochman released Variations based on his recital of the same title. In 2013 Avie Records released Mr. Hochman’s second solo album entitled Homage to Schubert featuring Schubert’s Sonata in A, D. 664, and Sonata in D, D. 850, alongside contemporary tributes to Schubert: Jörg Widmann’s Idyll und Abgrund: Six Schubert Reminiscences and Kurtág’s Homage to Schubert. This recording serves as an expression of Mr. Hochman’s deeply-felt passion and respect for Schubert’s subtle, intimate and mesmerizing music, which he says reveals a striking dichotomy between lyricism and drama. The album received praise for both its programming choices and virtuosic performances. His debut solo recording of works by Bach, Berg and Webern was released by Artek in 2009 and he recorded Insects and Paper Airplanes: The Chamber Music of Lawrence Dillon in 2010 for Bridge Records in collaboration with the Daedalus Quartet. Mr. Hochman has performed with the Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, Vancouver, New Jersey and Portland Symphonies, the Los Angeles and New York Philharmonics, the New York String Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, Istanbul State Orchestra, IRIS Orchestra in Memphis, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada under eminent conductors such as David Robertson, Gianandrea Noseda, John Storgårds, Pinchas Zukerman, Jun Märkl, Leon Botstein, Bramwell Tovey, Jahja Ling, Kazuyoshi Akiyama, Kaspar Zehnder, Michael Stern, Jaime Laredo and Joshua Weilerstein. He has appeared in his native Israel with several orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony and the Tel Aviv Soloists. Past festival highlights include Marlboro, Ravinia, Caramoor, Santa Fe, Bard, Gilmore and Vail in North America, as well as international festivals such as Lucerne, Spoleto, Verbier, Ruhr, Israel Festival and Prussia Cove. Mr. Hochman has performed internationally at such major halls as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Berlin Konzerthaus, Concertgebouw, the Louvre, Liszt Academy in Budapest, Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Tivoli Theatre in Copenhagen, l'Auditori de Barcelona, Suntory Hall in Tokyo and Kumho Art Hall in Seoul. A masterful collaborator, Benjamin Hochman has worked with the Tokyo, Shanghai, Mendelssohn, Casals, Prazak and Daedalus Quartets, Variation Trio, Zukerman Chamber Players, members of the Guarneri, Juilliard and Orion String Quartets, Jonathan Biss, Cho-Liang Lin and Ani Kavafian, Miklós Perényi and Ralph Kirshbaum. A dedicated advocate for contemporary music, he has worked closely with composers Kaija Saariaho, Krzysztof Penderecki, Philippe Hurel, Brett Dean, Tamar Muskal, David Ludwig and Menachem Wiesenberg, among others. Benjamin Hochman has previously been selected to participate in prestigious residencies around the world such as CMS Two at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Isaac Stern's International Chamber Music Encounters in Israel and Carnegie Hall's Professional Training Workshops with Osvaldo Golijov and Dawn Upshaw. Mr. Hochman received the "Outstanding Pianist" citation at the Verbier Academy, the Festorazzi Award from the Curtis Institute of Music, second prize at the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition, the "Partosh Prize" awarded by the Israeli Minister of Culture for best performance of an Israeli work and first prize at the National Piano Competition of the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem. His performances have been broadcast on National Public Radio's Young Artist Showcase and Performance Today, WNET’s Sunday Arts, WQXR, CBC (Canada), ABC (Australia), Radio France and Israel's Voice of Music radio station, as well as on the European television network Mezzo. Born in Jerusalem, Benjamin Hochman began his studies with Esther Narkiss at the Conservatory of the Rubin Academy in Jerusalem and Emanuel Krasovsky in Tel Aviv. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and the Mannes College of Music where his principal teachers were Claude Frank and Richard Goode. His studies were supported by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation. He is currently on the piano faculty of Bard College and the Longy School of Music. Benjamin Hochman is a Steinway Artist and lives in New York City with his wife, violinist Jennifer Koh. His website is www.benjaminhochman.com.

If you can prove your disappointment, I'll personally send you a cash refund." - Mark Ellen - R2 Magazine Hailing from Cornwall, in the South West of England, Flats and Sharps blur the lines between Bluegrass, Folk, Country & Pop, gaining recognition for performing their own highly original songs as well as their renditions of Bluegrass classics. These five incredible young musicians honed their skills in 350 live performances over nearly five years charming and wowing audiences along the way. Their five track 'Always There' EP, released in June 2015, drew critical acclaim with R2 (Rock 'n' Reel) Magazine saying that they were "destined for great things" and 'Boat' and 'It's OK My Love' both picking up specialist and daytime UK radio play with the videos for these songs gaining traction on YouTube. The lads recorded a new album in summer 2015 which will be released in early 2016. Entitled 'King of My Mind' it breaks new ground instrumentally with added drums and even a Hammond B3 organ and guest performances from BJ Cole on Pedal Steel and a duet featuring emerging singer-songwriter emae. 3 cover songs are sandwiched between 12 original songs written by Kirk Bowman (Banjo) and Mikey Ponsford (Mandolin). Added to these two Josh Warner (Guitar), Liam Fitzharris (Double Bass) and 2015 addition Danny Hart on Fiddle. 'King of My Mind' was recorded in a week at Deep Litter studios, South Devon and was produced by David McEwan who has won awards for his production work on Plan B's "The Defamation of Strickland Banks" and has a long relationship working with Nitin Sawhney. Flats and Sharps have come a long way from their humble beginning busking in Penzance as 17 year-olds to performing on the Town Square stage at the Country 2 Country Festival at the O2 in London in March 2015 and at Proms in Hyde Park, London in September 2015, which was recorded for later broadcast on the Bob Harris Country show on BBC Radio 2. Along the way that have played for (and with) the Governor of Kentucky who jumped on stage to play with them, won fans at scores of festivals including Isle of Wight, Maverick and many Bluegrass and Folk Festivals and performed for events for Ralph Lauren and Jack Wills shops in London They were the headline act at the Ireland's Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival in June 2015. Flats and Sharps are ones to watch out for in 2016 and these five talented young men are clearly going to pick up many fans throughout the year.

Whilst it's not exactly progressive in the sense of prog metal we all know and love, the track AURAI flaunts the band's progressive elements through unexpected transitions between the trademark blast beats of black metal, catchy post-rock rhythms and weird, off-hand riffs that keeps The Great Cold surprising - of course this is a recurring theme throughout the album, it's just most prominent in this track, But it's the more atmospheric post-metal elements across the album, reminiscent of Anathema or Katatonia, which are just standout incredible – the intro to NEPHELAI and the end of OREAD especially. lead guitar: lukas gräfen rhythm guitar: sebastian freitag bass: axel lißewski drums: philipp becker

Link | 1 | 1 | A Very Sad Story | A Very Sad Story | A Very Sad Story | AVERYSADSTORY was born in 2003 in Bar-Le-Duc, a small “meusienne” town lost in the middle of the Lorraine region. As a stoner metal band, the group knew how to forge a powerful and energetic repertoire, destined to reach out to their listeners. In their concerts in the Lorraine region and throughout north-east France AVERYSADSTORY continues to refine its style and develop an impressive on stage presence. “With its heavy lead guitars charged with a fat rhythm section, AVERYSADSTORY sends out a big sound, heavy, sludge, aggressive and corrosive. Heavy, sticky and radical, the group works its moods full of anxiety and poisonous riffs”. [W-fenec webzine février 2010] AVERYSADSTORY’s main influences stem from masters of metal such as DOWN, BLACK SABBATH, CROWBAR, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, to name a few. From this it forges its own mixture, a skillful mix of southern metal, rock, heavy, that stays with you long after hearing it. AVERYSADSTORY is resolutely determined to leave its mark on the planet of Rock’n’Roll. Following two demos and one live album, AVERYSADSTORY will start January 2010 with a new album DEEP BLACK THOUGHTS, which once again proves its indestructible desire to always go further. Eight tracks of pure stoner metal juice with a rare intensity ready to blow your eardrums. The album is like the Lorraine, hard and full of scars. To sum up, AVERYSADSTORY is moist soil, molten metal, grime, beer and sweat. For now, discover AVERYSADSTORY‘s DEEP BLACK THOUGHTS in their favorite place, the stage!
