Link | 2 | 1 | Club Hoy | Club Hoy | Australia | Club Hoy | Formed in Sydney, Australia, in 1989, Club Hoy was a folk duo, comprising of [a1191616] and [a885523]. Flanagan and Richardson began performing together at the age of 19, and after a year of writing and performing, released their first single, "On and On," in 1990. Late that year, additional musicians [a802729] (bass) and Vincent Sheehan (drums) joined the band. In early 1991, their second single, the double A-side "Da Da Da Da/Green and Blue" was released. For this single, Club Hoy enlisted the help of former [a83077] [a479679], who performed on and produced a couple of tracks with Club Hoy; they later returned the favor on one of McLennan's albums. By this time, there was a significant amount of critical acclaim for the band and they were developing a dedicated fan base, although commercial success was proving elusive. The first taste of their debut album, Thursday's Fortune, was in the form of a single from that album ("House on Fire"). It generated a great deal of interest in the upcoming release, which finally saw the light of day two months after the release of "House on Fire," in September 1991. Greeted with critical praise, Thursday's Fortune saw Club Hoy receive minor commercial success. This was thanks in no small part to extensive touring with the likes of [a602711], [a458824], the [a26217], the [a243269], and [a431707]. One of the strengths of Club Hoy's music lay in their well-crafted songwriting, which produced some of the best folk-pop music of the early-'90s. Richardson and Flanagan's vocal harmonies were another highlight. Two more singles were released from Thursday's Fortune ("Walk Away" and "Not Like That") in 1992. These were followed by their final recording, the Trumpets EP, which was promoted with the track "You Promised, You Said." This choice as lead single from the EP caused tensions within the group to be exacerbated, and, in 1993, Club Hoy disbanded. Penny Flanagan went on to pursue a successful solo career, while Julia Richardson and Bernie Hayes formed a new group, the Troublemakers.

Link | 2 | 1 | Deuxvolt | Deuxvolt | Italy | Deuxvolt | DEUXVOLT is the meeting point of a sperimentation period that started in 2010 for 3 alternative musicians. The aim was to merge past and future with full power. After playing for years in various industrial, dark and goth projects, Olympia, Shade, Just (and Zerohm) unite to create something new and refined, to give to themselves and to listeners a new kind of sensations. The project includes musical influences from gothic, techno, dance, ebm, industrial, classical music. Synthesizers and classical instruments as piano, violin, harpsichord, dance together on an electrical pounding scenery. Dark and light; near and faraway realities; modern and antique; the timeless fascination of the human being for duality incarnated in music. In January 2011 they start their promotion with a first "raw" demo, with it they participate at MIDEM 2011 event, thanks to a Swiss publisher interested in the Deuxvolt project. In March 2011 they were picked by a specialized jury and by fans as the only Italian band to participate at “Cyberfront Festival” in Ukraine (the show will be then canceled due to contractual reasons). In July 2011 they release a free compilation entitled “HORRORMX”, containing 4 industrial-gothic-dance remixes of themes from the horror movie universe: “The Exorcist”, “Dracula Bram Stoker”, “The Crow”, “Deep Red”. The compilation, downloadable for free on www.facebook.com/deuxvolt, is presently receiving a success never seen before in the brief story of this project, defined from the specialized press as "ready for the great jump". In September 2011, a few months after their debut, Deuxvolt signed an agreement with Glory & Honour Dark music promotions (www.gloryandhonour.co), which will spread their live shows across Europe and beyond. In February 2012 the band releases the new album "UNION OF OPPOSITES", following an avantgarde model of promotion: totally profit-free music distribution. According to this Social Pay model, you only need to support Deuxvolt through social networks (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter...) or in any other way of spreading the word and promoting the album "Union of Opposites", which will be FREELY DOWNLOADABLE from the official site www.deuxvolt.com In October 2012 the Art Director JustDeux has launched his new electronic album "THE DANCE MACHINE" available for FREE together with his "Worldwide Industrial Dance Contest" in cooperation with DasKlub, the largest Industrial Dance Kommunity. In January 2013 the "JustDeux Worldwide Industrial Dance Contest" rewards the best dancers involved in his contest.

If you had a knife you could have cut the Vertical Struts into two base components: one drumming auteur Trevor Anderson, ready, able, and unwilling to spread faggy gospel through orthodox means. The other: R. E. Biesinger, player of a for-profit ear-doctor's wet dreams and singer of verses and choruses. These were the Vertical Struts: a federal entity that took conflicting styles, contrasting arts and pansexuality and forced them into two throats, six strings, two sticks and a single clear will. In short, let's just call them an updated, amplified, revolutionized, colourized, etc., early Kinks with the four pieces pared down to a nimble and overblown two. Yup, they had the moods of the '60s Mods but harnessed a new kind of energy. They were an atypical pushing-and-shoving kinda continuum of the Who, the Gories, the Gossip, the Beat Happening, Serge Gainsbourg, the Brian Jonestown Massacre's slow points, Mick Jagger's hollering and a kind of minimalism more often seen on canvas.

Link | 1 | 2 | Broadway and Wilson | Broadway and Wilson | Broadway & Wilson | Andrew Emil & Jeff Bloom Broadway & Wilson (OM Records, Gallery Music Group, Industry, High Note Records, Cafa del Mar Music) is the production duo of Andrew Emil (four play music, Seasons, .dotbleep) and Jeff Bloom (PO!NTF!VE, Guesthouse, Movim,). Formed out of desperation in 2004 on the corner of Broadway & Wilson (in Chicago's Uptown Neighborhood), their early productions landed on some of house music's finest labels. Forced to work together by an affirmative action clause in a record label contract and made possible by a grant from The School of Boogietronics (of Funkadelphia), the duo is making a comeback after a several year hiatus due to illicit photographs of the group that were leaked to the tabloids. After a recent court settlement, they are starting 2010 off on the right foot with remixes of Gene Farris's classic 'Here I am Baby (Broadway & Wilson's We're Back Mix) on Alphabet and a Re-Rub of BearWho's The Dancer (Broadway & Wilson Mix).

From Milano, Italy Rise Above Dead were formed in 2009 in Milan. when they started cutting their first home-recorded demos. The 2010 debut Human Disintegration was self released in june 2010 on vinyl only. The music was complimented by the visual darkness captured on a superlative artwork done by californian artist Justin Bartlett (www.vberkvlt.com). After the release of Human Disintegration, the band played almost 100 gigs between Italy and Europe. The band followed their debut with Stellar Filth, engineered by Ufomammut and Lento’s soundman Lorenzo Stecconi and released in june 2012. The record got great feedbacks from the international press and it has often been compared to the early works of the bands Isis, Cult Of Luna and Neurosis. Following the release of Stellar Filth, Rise Above Dead shared stages with several bands like Voivod, Napalm Death, Eyehategod, Kylesa, Russian Circles, Ulver, Black Breath, Amenra, Pelican, Envy, Tombs, Darkest Hour and more… In Spring 2014, singer Andrea Rondanini left the band for personal reasons and the rest of the members decided to keep going as an instrumental four-piece. Link | 1 | 2 | Real Life Version | Real Life Version | Slovenia | Real Life Version | Real Life Version originating from Slovenia have risen from a strong local hardcore scene in their hometown Ajdovscina which was the centre of alternative music in the area. The band formed in late 2005, continuing the legacy of legendary local bands. They released their debut album Resistance from within in 2009, and took part in the "Got Punk?" tour playing in most venues around Slovenia. After several european tours through Germany, Austria, Poland, France, Holland, Belgium, England and Italy, their singer decided to leave the band due to lack of time. They forged forward as a four piece preparing the new material for the second album. Not wasting their time they joined forces with finnish punk-rockers Part Time Killer on thier tour through Czech Republic and Austria. Real Life Version represent rock attitude with punk diy mentality, with friendship being the driving force behind their music. Knowing that the only way for the alternative music to thrive is to support it, they have been organzing shows for touring bands since 2007. Having done more than 50 shows for over 100 bands they are proving not to be only a great live performing band, but also a group of people who lives through their ideas and not just contemplating them. Look forward to the release of their album in 2013.

Their genre can be best described as alternative metal, however Gothic and progressive styles were their primary influences. Lead singer Michael Ibarra's raw, high-flying voice, depressive crooning and tormented lyrics rounded out their unique sound. Osiris Rising was also known for changing genre (style) from song to song. Osiris Rising turned down an opportunity with Drive Thru Records in 2004 to pursue an indie CD release. Joseph Robert Arthur died in a car accident just weeks after the band had begun pursuing a record deal with Atlantic Records early in 2006, leaving the band without its creative force and primary songwriter.

Link | 1 | 2 | Grapefruit Moon | Grapefruit Moon | Czech Republic | Grapefruit Moon | BIOGRAPHY Grapefruit Moon came to an existence back in 1997, after Bretik recorded his first electro-pop EP "Today", completely in his own production. There is also a remix of the title song on the EP done by Lucas who became the second member of GM. Sojda was the next person to join Bretik and Lucas. With his arrival GM´s music became less poppy, the vocals got pushed in the background and gradually dissapeared completely, substituted with Sojda´s guitar solos. The whole sound turned more alternative. Johny came shortly after Sojda, and in this set-up they recorded second GM EP "Pampelmusenmond" , which won the demo of the month in magazine Spark. With Sojda playing the guitar, Johny on the drum machine, Lucas programming and Bretik programming and keyboard playing, they toured several Ostrava´s clubs with the Pampelmusenmond repertoir. In May 1999 an Ostrava´s culture system dvoika.troika started their activity. GM were among the first liveacts who joined them, and have remained a fixed part of it until now. After some time spent looking for a female singer, GM renewed their old contact, and in autumn 1999 started to work on some songs with Sonia. The idea was to bring a warm human element to the songs. The collaboration went down well, and Sonia became a proper member of GM. In a three months´ time they recorded a promo "East Base" EP for a project called "French Connection" organized by Prague´s East Base Agency, whose aim was to connect dance music from Eastern Europe with French dance music. At the present time GM work on their first regular which is to come out through Virtual Label (similarly to other liveacts from dvoika.troika) around the end of 2000. Sojda´s not among GM anymore (RESTINPEACE...), Lucas has moved to Prague, but still keeping in touch with GM became a main re-mixer of GM songs. Nowadays GM feature Sonia (vocals), Bretik (programming, keyboards), Johny (drum machine, sampling, loops), FunkOta (guitar player), Lacmo (web design), and Kuba Maralik (photographs, cover design).

Link | 2 | 1 | Bas Broekhuis | Bas Broekhuis | Bas Broekhuis | Bas Boudewijn Broekhuis The music of Bas Broekhuis is known for its sequential and rhythmic content also known as "Berliner Schule" (Berlin school). In his studio Bas plays and composes mostly on synthesizer, but on stage he likes to play, along good friends, on electronic drums, acoustic percussion and Rhythmstick (Proud owner of the world’s biggest collection of Rhythmsticks). Both keys and drums were mastered by himself. Born out of a marriage of musical and creative parents in 1963, Bas, the youngest of four children, was the only one who didn't seem to be interested in music. Through education and his membership of “The Society for Young Scientists and Inventors” (NL), Bas concentrated on techniques. However, through these techniques, Bas started to build machines that could produce sounds in an electronic way. Influenced by Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze and Vangelis, he began to manipulate his own generated sounds. Together with a few friends of “The Society” , Bas started his first Electronic Music Band named 'El Sueno', which is Spanish for “The Dream”. After one concert and one radio broadcast, a new formation was founded with the same guys: “The Evolution Project” was born. But even this project was finished after one concert and one television broadcast. With one of the guys, Bas founded a new formation in electronic music, 'Live Support System'. But, history kept on repeating, after one concert this 'System' came also to a hold. After this period of six years of composing, performing and experimenting with sounds and music, Bas started to make music on a solo base. The result of this was the tape ' Face Behind the Mask', released on the first electronic music festival (KLEM-day) September '88 One year later, October 21, Bas and Ron Boots performed together as 'project 2.1' and released the double-tape 'Hydrhythmix'. From that time Bas contributed tracks or parts of it on a couple of CD’s from European artists like Mario Schönwälder, Ron Boots, John Kerr, Venja and many others. In 1991 the first solo CD 'The Escher Drawings' was released; an album that was inspired by the drawings of M.C. Escher. Since 1992 Bas can frequently be found on stage with his synthesizers, but mostly behind electronic drums and percussion together with Mario Schönwälder, Detlef Keller, Bernd Braun, John Kerr, Harald Grosskopf, Venja and many others. In 1995 the second solo album "The Synchronicity Of Life" was released. Beside live performances Bas is also busy with digital recordings and editing in his MIDI-and digital-audio based studio.

This new project called himself Montana due to a contract with a defunct brand of cigarettes. Montana's magic was expressed in his first album "I want more" of 1985 under the seal of the company WEA. Link | 2 | 1 | The Horse's Ha | The Horse's Ha | The Horses Ha | Waterdrawn is only the second album in 10 years from Chicago-based The Horse's Ha. Why does it take them so long to make records? They're not inherently lazy people; Janet Bean has had a 25 year career of making records as half of alt-country originators Freakwater and as one third of Eleventh Dream Day, while James Elkington has spent the last few years as a guitarist in Jon Langford's Skull Orchard and drummer in Brokeback. He's also released an album of finger-style guitar duets with Nathan Salsburg -- Avos (Tompkins Square),and recorded and toured with Laetitia Sadier (Stereolab), in addition to other groups. The Horse's Ha's first record, Of The Cathmawr Yards (2009), was a blurring of English folk, jazz improvisation and haunting harmonies that featured Bean and Elkington's contrasting voices, the athletic rhythm section of Nick Macri and Charles Rumback on bass and drums, and the stellar-searching cello experiments of Fred Lonberg-Holm. However, for Waterdrawn, Bean and Elkington went back to their roots as a duo to make a stripped-down record built on the foundation of Bean's country-tinged voice and Elkington's folk-inspired guitar playing with a minimum of ornamentation. Drawing strength and influence from Shirley Collins' and Davy Graham's genre-defining album, New Routes, Folk Routes and Donovan's early endeavors, The Horse's Ha wrote a collection of songs about the sea and dreams of escape that harkens back to the British folk boom without replicating it and points the group in a new direction. Horse's Ha regulars' Lonberg-Holm and Macri made wonderful and buoyant contributions that keep Waterdrawn bobbing along, and reed and string contributions from Jacob Daneman and Skull Orchard's Jean Cook add color and texture, but the emphasis is on the irrefutable magic of voice and guitar, and how that can invite the listener into a different world.

It begins in the kitchen of The Grandmother in 1904, along with a collection of tales of past empires and great great ancestry; fabled figures and sorrowful lament, with vocals appendaged together like a two headed balladeer.

Link | 1 | 2 | Zenith Effluveum | Zenith Effluveum | Zenith Effluveum | ZENITH EFFLUVEUM are an obscure oddity from Rochester, NY. The band members were high school friends: Carl Mack on drums (still musically active today), Michael Ferrera (who wrote the most songs, sadly he passed away a few years ago) and Kim Fabris. (There's a rumour that Greg Prevost of Chesterfield Kings contributed on their only record but the actual truth is he was recording in the same basement, but not appearing on the record.) The band was influenced by Can, Amon Duul, Faust, Floh de Cologne, Magma, Silver Apples, Henry Cow and many more. They performed in CBGB in '77, and in '78 their self-released debut Almost Made It In The USA saw the light of the day. It's clearly a labour of love rather than a high-quality production achievement: it's a low fidelity, one take recording on a 4-track. Apparently there are some Moog Taurus pedals and clarinets there... The second incarnation of the band, Zenith II came about in 1983, but it's unknown whether they have any releases or not.

Link | 1 | 2 | The Sensational Epics | The Sensational Epics | United States | The Sensational Epics | The Sensational Epics were formed in 1963 as a five-piece group based in Columbia, South Carolina. They played primarily for high school and college fraternity & sorority functions, performing what is now known as "Beach Music". In the early 60's, when this history was being made (of which the EPICS were an integral part), they called it "Rhythm & Blues" and "SOUL" music. In 1965, the EPICS evolved into a nine (9) piece "Show & Party" band, featuring five (5) horns along with a very talented rhythm section. Their on-stage antics, choreography, and dynamic sound made them an instant favorite of the college fraternity circuit across the southeast. Most of the guys have been with the group since their very first hit entitled "I've Been Hurt" was released nationally on Cameo record label.

Link | 2 | 1 | Valete | Valete | Valete | Keidje Torres Lima Portuguese rapper of Santomean descent born November 14th, 1981 in Lisbon. After living in several places around Lisbon (Benfica, Arroja and Amora) he finally settled in Damaia, Amadora. Influenced early on by his high school philosophy teacher, he became fond of left-wing political ideologies, particularly Trotskyism, which would later inform his lyrics, and for a while belonged to the Portuguese Communist Party. He began hearing rap in 1991, and from 1995 developed a more serious interest in music, influenced by rappers such as [a50997], [a50514] and [a131139]. He adopted his rap moniker after watching a documentary on magic where he heard the myth that the jack card wouldn't allow tricks to work. He began rapping in 1997, and together with friends and fellow rappers [a282679] and [a964851] founded [a3232078], with whom he performed for two years throughout the country, and later [l99614]. In that same year he began receiving invitations from famed Portuguese DJs [a844232] and [a282695] to appear on their mixtapes. After a brief hiatus to focus on his studies (he holds a degree in Communications), he returned with his solo debut, [r2819013], released independently in 2002, in the wake of several invitations from record labels, which he adamantly refused in order to hold complete creative control over his music. The lyrics on this album displayed his skills as a freestyle and battle rapper as well as an observant social critic. He released his second album, [r1212498], on 2006, also marked by social criticism, and reflecting, once again, his leftist political views.

Link | 0 | 3 | H.A.N.Z. | H.A.N.Z. | Germany | H.A.N.Z. | Hans Centen German House DJ & Producer H.A.N.Z. is one of the real house-veterans of the German Rhein-/Ruhr-Area. The native Dutch man started working as a DJ in 1983, even before House Music was invented . After some successful years in the Netherlands, he moved to Germany, where he started as a resident in the legendary club Königsburg (Krefeld). After a short period of time, he started djing all over Germany. He played in almost all major house clubs in Germany like Destillery (Leipzig), Dockland (Münster), or Tribehouse (Neuss) and international clubs like Pacha & El Divino(Ibiza), Roxy (Amsterdam), Fuse (Brussles), or Pravda (Bern,CH). H.A.N.Z. also played big events like Nature One (three years in a row) and Paradise City. Next to his excellent DJ-skills, H.A.N.Z. is also a gifted producer. He started putting out tracks like "Hot Shuffle" and "I´ve Got It" on labels like Glitterball Records, Outland Records and Twisted USA. His release "Shake" a happy song with smoothing vocals and a grooving guitar on Clubstar Records, which featured LA Williams, went up to position 19 in the German dance charts and has already become a club classic. His collaboration with DJ Khetama and Howard Donald (Ex-Take that) "Take control" was very succesful in the UK and Spain. The latest production from H.A.N.Z., as well as the others on Clubstar Records "Daylight", together with DJ 88 Keys was 6 weeks in the UK club charts + in the DJ Magazines hype chart! For H.A.N.Z. music production is not about quantity, but quality.

Link | 2 | 1 | Kill Your Ex | Kill Your Ex | Kill Your Ex | Looks can be deceiving. With a sophomoric band name, some people may understandably feel reserved in listening to a band in a genre that appears to be dying, even with Say Anything's ... Defense of the Genre last year. The rock/pop-punk/hardcore hybrid that Kill Your Ex display on their debut From Words to Motion makes for an extremely captivating listen. While the record stands at fifteen tracks strong, which may make for an intimidating listen, the band's diversity in sound and structure is appealing, and their knack for melody and harmony is what drives the record's pulse. With crunching, euphonic guitar arrangements and a resolute rhythm section, the Portland, Oregon quartet's debut sports a wide array of sounds, and fans of The Artist in the Ambulance-era Thrice, Taking Back Sunday, and the aforementioned Say Anything will be more than pleased. From Words to Motion begins with the insanely catchy Hades & Demeter, which begins with a high-register guitar that gives way to an explosive, melodious main riff. Guitarist/vocalist Joey Rubenstein cleverly weaves sardonic social commentary ("Where did we go wrong, why are there bombs where children belong? ... will it take us 'til death to find a ground to walk on? It gets worse everyday") with optimistic, hopeful lyricism to a loved one ("With your eyes, I can forget the world... with kind eyes, you can change the world"). This lyrical interlacing is a prevailing theme throughout the record. Bassist and back-up vocalist Joe Colett and drummer Mark Haines emphatically drive the song's potency as the rhythm section, and guitarist Dan Schafman's melodious leads, especially during the outro, are transfixing and wholly infectious. "We can be anything we want, we can be anyone we want," affirms Rubenstein, whose upper-register vocals brilliantly shine throughout the record, but especially on the album opener. The definitive Kill Your Ex sound operates like a centrifugal force; at the album's center sits Kill Your Ex's gallimaufry of songwriting ideas and styles that serves as a catalyst that's triggered with each song. Each song on From Words to Motion has its own easily-discernible individuality - an impressive album characteristic when considering the record's epic length. The interplay between Rubenstein and Colett, who pulls double-duty as the harsher vocalist, is another excellent element to the record. However, it's important to note that Rubenstein has some good guttural shouts of his own: take for instance the juxtaposition heard in Nine Point Eight: "Won't come back for you / Once it grows, it starts to burn / You're a grown man / After this, there's nothing else / Passion steals us / Once you fall, your world's a fake / I sing out for you / Sing it loud and sing it proud," which serves as the prototypic example of the conjugation between Rubenstein's higher, cleaner vocals and his more abrasive, edgier shouts. Colett bucks tradition during Twilight with cleaner vocals of his own, although the effect is less interesting compared to the clean/harsh dynamic. Schafman's leads are exemplary throughout the record, but tend to be a bit homogeneous as the record presses on because he fixates on the higher frets more than working the entire fretboard. Again, just a personal gripe, but stands to reason that the record's nearly-an-hour runtime is too long. Colett's bass, meanwhile, rings cleanly throughout the record, but especially on cuts such as Agoraphobia (literally: fear of the marketplace). As previously noted, the lyricism on From Words to Motion is characterized by the reciprocal relationship between social commentary and the anticipated pop-punk love notes, with the latter being more dominant throughout the record. The one fault within the lyricism lies in the band's writing configuration: rather than writing in complete sentences, Rubenstein relies more heavily on connecting a series of sentence fragments together to formulate what he's trying to communicate with his listeners. This can be a bit tiresome, especially in tracks such as Polydipsia ("And I'm still lost inside / An old friend whispers / Old friend / We burn / Below are serpents that kill our children / Down the drain to join the others / She has dispensed down there") or For Each a Grail ("A holistic inception . . . an open eye perspective / Move on / That we have not a worry / Move on now / That you can be strong and carry me home / That you can be strong and carry us all / Fed scraps under a door but your eyes bite for more / You've yet to see life / Perception of time"). While a personal gripe, opting for a more poetic, conventional meter would be preferred because it would better suit the vibrant leads and steady rhythm executed by the guitars and percussion. However, Rubenstein's imagery and use of simile is smile-inducing ("I'm frantically racing like a kite on Valium" is one such example, as heard in Fetch Todo Fetch) and his affinity for the firmament-vs.-underworld dynamic percolates into multiple tracks (Nine Point Eight, Mudlark, and Polydipsia are three such examples). Nine Point Eight features a personal favorite line of "The stars are fading - let's light the sky again tonight!" and the instrumental Etal is a beautiful segue into the concluding track. From Words to Motion is a stellar record throughout and will definitely please fans of the rock/pop-punk/hardcore hybrid. The album is distinguished by its variegation in tempo, structure, song length, and lyricism, but for the most part retains its energy and zeal throughout the hour-long listening experience. The longer tracks (Drift Asea, closer Headspin) never run out of steam, with spirited lead guitar, crunching rhythm, and fiery percussion pushing the tracks along. The album's best cuts are incredibly catchy and lively, and will likely make for fan favorites when the band goes live with From Words to Motion next month. The album's first third is easily the best section of the record, but there aren't long stretches of ennui to distract listeners. Rubenstein and Colett have excellent chemistry as a vocal tandem when executed, Schafman's leads are animated and vivacious despite their homogeneity towards the end of the record, and Haines' drumming is incredibly consistent and bold, especially with his flams and rollicking snare. In all, Kill Your Ex's 2008 (discounting their unsigned releases) debut For Words and Motion comes highly recommended, and the band is definitely one to keep your eye on in 2008 and beyond.

Simon’s music has appeared on Hollywood Blockbusters, million-selling console-games, and sound-tracks many of the world’s biggest club floors with his unique brand of emotive house & techno on a weekly basis. Simon’s career began way back in his Acid-House-era University days where he studied classical composition and edited the Monthly Campus-wide Magazine with a staff of 15. A chance meeting with a young Thom Yorke led him not only to cutting his first vinyl (these 7”s now go for hundreds of pounds), but also paved the way for a DJ & music production career now going 24 years strong. His debut show was to 1200 people, playing a wildly eclectic blend of styles & sounds for 5 hours straight. That was before he owned a set of decks. Over the past two decades he has run multiple award-winning record labels, including Stereophoenix, U&A and Fused & Bruised, whilst finding time to headline festivals from the US to Australia and causing dancefloor bedlam anywhere from Canada to mainland China. He can also look back with serious satisfaction on a career in film and TV that has seen his music appear on movies such as The Matrix and Charlie’s Angels, whilst Wipeout, Motorstorm and most recently Driveclub are all #1-selling console games that he has soundtracked. He has previously soared with aliases such as Lunatic Calm, Elite Force and Zodiac Cartel but in 2014 he is increasingly renowned and respected for his outstanding, and often heroically long, House & Techno DJ sets. His One Series events (One DJ, One Room, All Night) epitomize his passionate and community-orientated spirit, cultivating a devoted following of participants and creative collaborators around the world. Looking ahead, Simon has well over an album’s worth of original material waiting in the wings, with recent releases on Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings, and a host of EPs planned for Stereophoenix over the coming months. The One Series and Rise parties remain a priority, with San Francisco, Sydney, London, LA and Denver all fast becoming strongholds for these spectacular self-promoted events. Meanwhile, Simon is becoming an increasingly essential ingredient for many game developers as a sound designer and content creator, whilst also moving into the world of the silver screen with high profile collaborations with the likes of two-time Oscar-Winner, Klaus Badelt (Gladiator / Pirates of the Carribean).

Coming up as a young DJ in the Detroit scene, Soko also honed his skills by constantly studying greats, practicing, dj’ing a regiment of gigs, and racking up valuable experience previously dj’ing for Detroit main stays like Clear Soul Forces, and Invincible. Not only has he served as a mentor and provided guidance to many in his age group and younger but he’s also served as a DJ for Journalist 103. This led to him becoming the DJ for The Left alongside Apollo Brown and Journalist 103. Their critically acclaimed LP “Gas Mask” on Mello Music Group was regarded as one of the top 10 Rap LP’s of the year (2010) according to DJ Premier, and has subsequently been regarded as one of the best Rap releases of the past 5 years. DJ Soko’s experiences touring in support of “Gas Mask” gave him an opportunity to soak up even more game and learn the proverbial music industry ropes. In addition to pursuing his musical endeavors, Soko also attends classes and holds down a regular job often showing discipline and focus beyond his years. Soko’s ear and ability to put emcees in position for them to shine over the perfect production is never more evident than it is on his debut project released on his imprint Left Of Center. DJ Soko uses his years coming up in the Detroit scene, his experiences DJ’ing in his current home (the planet of Brooklyn, NY) then blends both of those worlds together seamlessly just like he does when he completes songs by scratching the perfect lines, phrases or sounds. This no more evident than in his release on Mello Music Group’s limited edition 7” vinyl series which managed to sell out in 24 hours. Afterwards, Soko was determined to take the time to craft his solo album. He put together a virtual Hip-Hop Avengers line-up for the project titled “Domino Effect”. All of DJ Soko’s past experiences give him the necessary foundation to carry the torch today and he carries on the traditions set forth by DJ’s and producers like DJ Premier, Tony Touch, House Shoes, DJ Babu, and others while blazing his own trail and cementing his own legacy. *Bio written by Dart Adams, taken from deejaysoko.com

In 2004 they recorded a four track demo at the studio titled, "Reminiscent Of The Time". In 2005 they recorded a six track EP titled, "A Striking Silence". In 2007 they released their full-length album titled, "I Am The Axis". In 2008, members of the band (Al & Carl) were involved with a side project called "This Blessed Morning". There were four people in the band total and it had that same awesome S2S, electronicore sound. Unfortunately, the few songs from the 'Stillwater' EP that were hosted on the website were removed and never saw an official release. In 2009, members of Sworn To Secrecy released an epic six track EP on iTunes titled, "Go Chase Your Ghosts".

Link | 2 | 1 | Payung Teduh | Payung Teduh | Indonesia | Payung Teduh | Payung Teduh Payung Teduh was created by two close friends that used most of their time in playing music at the canteen of FIB as well as providing background music for the Pagupon Theater of Indonesia University. These two close friends, Is and Comi, played their music anywhere from the canteen of FIB UI, hangout places inside the campus complex, to the lake side near UI’s Center Administration Building. Their togetherness in playing music has been supported by friends around them which then lead to the creation of a duo that eventually became the next big thing at UI. Payung Teduh was then born in late 2007 with their first formation, Is on vocal & guitar, and Comi on Double Bass. After playing duo for some time, it was necessary for them to improve their exploration in their music as well as improving their stage performance. In doing this, they recruited Cito as a drummer and Ivan as a guitalele player in 2010. Angin Pujaan Hujan was the first song that eventually known as the signature composition of Payung Teduh’s style of music. As time went by, they wrote new songs such as Kucari Kamu, Amy, Untuk Perempuan Yang Sedang Dalam Pelukan. They also played songs written by a colleague/mentor Catur Ari Wibowo who is also a director of Pagupon Theater that wrote songs such as Resah, Cerita Tentang Gunung dan Laut. Amalia Putri, a good friend of them, also wrote songs like Malam and Tidurlah that were then added into their album. Payung Teduh then recorded these songs and released their first indie album in late 2010. In this first album, it can be said that the musical characteristic of Payung Teduh is like the music in the 60’s with a blend of keroncong and jazz music. Whenever they were asked what kind of musical genre that Payung Teduh played, it was up to the listeners to define what kind of genre that they played, in a sense that they won’t stop playing music in just one genre, but in many other genres while still maintaining the strong characteristic that they already have.

Fusing elements of hardcore, emo and metal into a strain of rocking chaos, they quickly wrote eight aggressive and desperate songs, creating their own style that would be best described as BOTCH meets ENVY. Metronome Charisma played its first shows in their hometown, Bordeaux, a city which is better known for its wine than for its hardcore scene, supporting screamo heroes Yaphet Kotto. In June of 2002, they recorded the 8 songs for a demo which got great reviews among French HxC magazines, webzines and fanzines... They later had the opportunity to play with bands like Cave In, Eighteen Visions, Guitar Wolf, Amanda Woodward, Tantrum, Judoboy or Comity. In July of 2003, Metronome Charisma recorded their first album in Geneva with the incredible Serge Morattel (Knut, Shora, Brazen, Tantrum, Spinning heads) at Rec. Studio. The 14 track full-length entitled "Notre Amour Est Assez Puissant Pour Détruire Ce Putain De Monde" was released on Radar Swarm (Craw, Tantrum, Year Of No Light, Altar Of Plagues) and Impure Muzik (Gantz, Nothing To Prove). Metronome Charisma toured France a lot in 2004. After a hiatus, the band finally broke up in 2005, and the members focused on other projects like Year Of No Light or Adam Kesher.

Kiermyer’s album Solomon’s Daughter featured saxophonist and Coltrane band member Pharaoh Sanders and invoked the passionate intensity of Coltrane's Sunship. Later works like Kairos employed a wider range of textures drawn from traditions as diverse as Mbuti singing and Native American chants balanced by Kiermyer's ecstatic drumming.

Soon the Clooney family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where the girls continued to vocalize. In their teens they went to radio station WLW for an audition and were successful where they remained on the staff of the station for two years in 1945 and 46. One day they were heard by bandleader [a=Tony Pastor]. The bandleader originally hesitated on hiring both sisters, but soon relented and so [a=Clooney Sisters] hit the road with the Pastor band. They appeared in a movie short with the Pastor Orchestra in 1947. The Clooney Sisters recorded a number of songs for Columbia with the Tony Pastor Band. From 1983 to 1990 he took musical lessons in his hometown. After that, he focussed on creating his first cassette tapes with his own electronic music recordings. His first release ever was a contribution to the [r=5767602] sampler, compiled by Swiss youth magazine Musenalp and German label Erdenklang. In 1993, he briefly collaborated with Lambert Ringlage and founded his own band ['ramp] in 1996. ['ramp] released their first album "nodular" on Mario Schonwalder´s Manikin label in 1998. After that, the band continued to release their albums independently, culminating in the recording of the acclaimed live concert they performed at Jodrell Bank Radio Observatory in 2001. Around that time, Parsick also collaborated with Klaus Hoffmann-Hoock aka Cosmic Hoffmann and released his first solo album "Traces of the Past" in 1998. From 1998 to 2002, Parsick sporadically was a member of the bands COSMIC HOFFMANN and MIND OVER MATTER respectively. With ['ramp] he began exploring what they called "doombient", dark ambient music darker than dark and deeper than deep. The album "ceasing to exist", recorded in collaboration with touch guitar player Markus Reuter, probably is the best showcase for this type of style. Being a prolific music producer and sound designer, Parsick released a variety of limited-edition solo albums of ambient drone-based music along with a series of CDs under his own name and with ['ramp].
