At the same time he was getting obsessed with multitrack tape machines, record players and effect boxes and he started experimenting with many different instruments and sound making devices. After college he briefly studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and worked for several years as an assistent for the contemporary composer Josef Anton Riedl. Since the late 1995 he works and lives in Berlin where he became an active and integral force of the so-called “Berlin Nouvelle Vague” and the blossoming “real time music” scene. From the middle of the nineties onwards his interest and activities almost completely shifted towards live-electronics and after testing various instrumentations (hard- & software samplers, signal processing, contact mics, field recordings, ...) he developed his own and quite unique electro-acoustic set-up which he calls “rotating surfaces”. Various objects and materials (from wood, metal, plastic, paper or violin bows and cymbals) are played directly on the rotating metal plate of the turntable and the vibrations are simply amplified with a small condensator microphone. With this set-up he covers many different styles of contemporary experimental music – ranging from extreme reductionism/EAI via ambient, industrial, musique concrete, electronica to harsh noise. Her fascination with unconventional sounds naturally led her to digital sampling, to which she brings a bruitiste approach. For the last fifteen years she has regularly appeared on contemporary, improvised and avant-garde music stages both in Canada and in Europe, where she has appeared at a number of important festivals. A founding member of Justine, she has also worked with Joane Hétu and Danielle Palardy Roger in Les Poules and Wonder Brass. She is presently involved in a number of other projects, including Île bizarre with Ikue Mori and Martin Tétreault, and L’Oreille à Vincent with Christof Migone, Michel F. Côté, Martin Tétreault and sound sculptor Jean-Pierre Gauthier. In 1998 she and Michel F. Côté wrote the music for Robert Lepage’s play La géométrie des miracles, an Ex Machina production. Labrosse and Côté also wrote and were on stage to play the music for Lepage’s Zulu Time, a techno-cabaret performance at the Theater Spektakkel in Zürich in 1999. In recent years she has been especially active, creating music for dance (for Gilles Simard, Catherine Tardif, and Andrew Harwood), for the theater (Thirty-eight tales from Shakespeare), for the cinema (Montréal vu par…, Pendant que les arbres tombent, L’entrevue and Plan de fuite) and for radio (Le Navire Night and Les Décrocheurs d’étoiles). In 1997 she received a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts to write a work for thirteen instruments that Espaces Sonores Illimités commissioned for the Symphonies Portuaires. She also obtained a grant from the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec to write a work for the Toronto quartet the Burdocks that was first performed in January 1999. She has been featured on over twenty recordings, including Petit traité de sagesse pratique (2000) and Face cachée des choses (1995), her two solo albums; Télépathie (2003) with A_dontigny; Prairie orange (2002) and Les contes de l’amère loi (1986) with Les Poules; Parasites (2001) with Martin Tétreault; Île Bizarre (1998), with Martin Tétreault and Ikue Mori; Langages Fantastiques (1995) and Suite (1990), with Justine; Duo Déconstructiviste (1994), with Michel F. Côté; and La Légende de la pluie (93), with J. Hétu, Z. Parkins, Danielle Palardy Roger and Tenko. She has also collaborated on compact discs by Jean Derome, Joane Hétu, Danielle P. Roger, Michel F. Rhythm guitarist Ricky Boon and vocalist/lead guitarist Lord Tim wondered this as well. Ricky and LT grew up together in the outback country town of Broken Hill and had numerous collaborations together. Although they always focused on their own projects (at the time being Fury and Dungeon) first and foremost, they often would talk about combining their respective styles into a hybrid side-project, but due to each person’s hectic schedule with their main projects, this would inevitably be sidelined. Until now. While taking a break from touring and recording with LORD, LT was producing Serenity Defiled’s “Where Chaos Reigns” album and talks inevitably came around to discussing this side-project once again, and this time solid plans were set in motion to make this collaboration a reality. LT and Ricky enlisted the help of ex-LORD/Dungeon drummer and current Germ mastermind Tim Yatras, and Carbon Black (ex-Nekrofeist) bassist Rob Giles to be the project’s rhythm section. Songs were quickly demoed, recording began and what originally started as a small side-project collaboration evolved into an epic two-album concept piece, complete with film score like orchestrations giving it a massive scale, far beyond the core thrash/black/death/power metal sound. Lower Synth Department rose from the ashes of Les Sirènes Débrouillardes in 2010 as a solo-project of the founder of the latter band, Sebastian H., that has been completed with Kyoung-Hi R. on electric bass guitar and vocals in late 2010, occasionally accompanied live by a Simmons drums set and additional synthesizer lines, played by Oliver M.. The music of the band is deeply influenced by and related to the experimental electronic music of the late 1970s and early 1980s, that was made in Sheffield by bands like The Future/The Human League, Vice Versa, Cabaret Voltaire, or by the formerly in Preston based musician Colin Potter and a few American avant-garde artists, pioneering in electronic music, like John Bender, etc.. Although the band is very careful in creating a minimal electronics sound, obviously appearing vintage in itself, it is produced in a hybrid way, by using analogous procedures and modern techniques of production as well. So in the end Lower Synth Department is concerned with post-minimal electronics so to speak. The name of the band is related to at least three different references, which intercommunicate and therefore depict the sound of the band: first to the cold aesthetics of modernist, especially brutalist architecture, which conveyed and expressed a very dehumanized attitude to life from the 1950s till the 1960s, that still affected even the 1980s. Second, technically speaking, to the low frequency oscillator, which creates a rhythmic pulse or sweep and is often used to modulate synthesizers, delay lines and other audio equipment in order to create effects used in the production of electronic music, while the final reference derives from the band's name abbreviation. At 16, out of sheared curiosity, he came across old school hip-hop and was soon playing that sound on the turntables. He then founded his own mobile DJ Company with a mission to bring new sound to youngsters in his community and get money to buy vinyls. It was while mixing [a=Guns N' Roses] with [a=Afrika Bambaataa] that he discovered Detroit's "style" house music. Later on, when moving to Montreal, Steeve discovered [a=Richie Hawtin] as well as artists from Cologne's greatest labels filled. This opened his eyes to a new world of musical possibilities: he was sparked by the idea of down pitching a hard and damped techno bassline to the point it clearly sounds like deep progressive house music. The Cabeloduro was the more appropriate name to reflect its origins, transforming influences of everyday life in a visceral and honest music. The same year the band has made several presentations in small spaces and bars, assuming the posture of Punk Rock. In 1993, when Ralph comes into place Pernão of the quartet starts playing around the Federal District and surroundings, gaining fans through his music and urgent direct lyrics. With an intense campaign now not only in Brasilia, the band enters studio to record their first demo tape. With a proposed more professional, the band distributed across the country about 2500 copies of their work to the press. In mid-1995, The Cabeloduro launch in Portugal, The Compilations "VOZES DA RAIVA" and "Xute na Oreia," also distributed by the rest of Europe. An attitude that shows what he's worth playing everywhere, spaces from modest to festivals with national impact. In end of 1996 the first CD is ready candango group, "With all love and affection ", through independent label RVC Music. According to criticism, the album is one of the best of all time in punk Rock in Brazil and is among the top ten in the nineties Brasilia. In 1997 the band goes to São Paulo for a season concerts and CD release on mainstream radio, MTV, magazines, and presentations at major nightclubs in the capital and countryside. In 1998, the band returned to Brasilia. The Cabeloduro reached released by Rio Stool "Cabeloduro No. 1," an EP with 10 music. Before the output Podrinho, the group still does some shows in national territory and participates in compilations such as "Cult 22" (1998), "Basement Rock" (2000) and "Savannah Allstars" (2000) exeta "Tribute to Garotos Podres "(2003) with Gazu vocals. Unwilling to quit, Marcelo band invites and goes to St. Paul to record "Everything we has, "a CD scheduled for release in July 2004. During this time she received the unique honor of being granted two consecutive research fellowships at the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology. Sprague was also awarded the Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts Artistic Achievement Award for the work culminated while investigating Sonification and Visualization, and Networked Multimedia Performance. She completed her education at Mills College, receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree in Electronic Music and Recording Media. A skilled producer, programmer, sound engineer, electronic hardware artist, video editor, and live visualist, she has privately served as technical advisor to a variety of musicians and artists, including Jack Ox, and Alvin Curran. Currently, she is the Production Manager and Assistant Director of Recombinant Media Labs in San Francisco. So much more than the sum of their parts, Nudybronque describe themselves as “an Indie Pop band based in the heart of Wiltshire”. Early 2013 saw the band release single 'Allsorts' as a precursor to new EP ‘Moondog’. The track was a huge success, played across the world getting interest in Australia and the US and helped the band into the shortlists for the Glastonbury Festival Emerging Talent Competition. The EP ‘Moondog’ has now been released and pushes the band into the dark recesses of your mind. Occupying an infinitely more grown-up arena of musical experimentation complete with strange instrumentation, darker lyrics and creative song structures it still retains addictive melodic properties, resulting in one of the most exciting, interesting and illogical recordings to be heard in some time.
