Link | 1 | 3 | Slynk | Slynk | Slynk | Evan Chandler Slynk (born 1986) has musical roots that run deep. Before he’d left school he was addicted to music and teaching himself how to produce funky joints in his bedroom. In 2004 he was given his first pair of decks as a gift which spurred a strong addiction to vinyl. He scored his first residency in his hometown Brisbane, Australia 2006 djing every Friday night at a New York style café underground. This is where he stayed for close to 2 years experimenting and refining his skills. It wasn’t until April 2008 when he was discovered by some local dj agencies, that he began shaking rumps at Brisbane’s top funky joints. In just 12 months he went from bedroom dj to one of Australia’s top funky breaks djs and producers playing interstate and overseas with full support from some of the world’s most respected vinyl slingers including: A Skillz (Fingerlickin’), Fort Knox Five, Freddy Fresh Worldwide, Craig Charles (BBC 6Music), DJ Moneyshot (Solidsteel) and more.

Link | 2 | 2 | Ill Move Sporadic | Ill Move Sporadic | London | IMS | Ill Move Sporadic | Ben81 and 1Boss have been collecting records since they can remember so the real I.M.S production process always starts with vinyl. Crate Diggers since before it was cool I.M.S make beats on hardware, utilising the classic EMU e6400 sampler that has been their instrument of choice for the past 10 years. Also making a continued appearance is the AKAI MPC 200XL and various analogue effects and compressors. Their sound is dusty, raw and sonically twisted into new, textured dimensions. I.M.S are always looking to expand their style and do things that haven’t been done before. Taking influence from Artists, Musicians, Graphics and London life in general, The agenda is clear - NEVER try and sound like anyone else and push forward to generate newer, deeper levels of sonic progression. Since 2010, I.M.S have been defining themselves over and over again as serious producers - always stylistically carving a path very much of their own. They are a no holds barred production duo boasting a no holds barred London attitude. Self-confessed control freaks, I.M.S rarely make beats with other people, and competitiveness between the pair always keeps them on point. I.M.S have now relocated separately to Manchester (Ben81) and Bristol (1Boss), but still have there ACRE Studio in South West London. There they hone there stripped down production style, often over 48 hour shifts of beat making, mixing new material and recording MCs. When not making music they run their label Starch Records as an outlet for their music and collaborations. |

Their pivotal 2011 album Letters From The Coast has the feel of a shoegazing Velvet Underground reared by the Flying Nun label – the perfect balance of drone and chime. The follow up release, Voices Out There, saw the band rein in their lo-fi guitar-pop impulses and explore a more expansive, minimal sound, akin to Conor and Eimer Devlin’s previous band Half Film. [The] Caseworker create an enigmatic intimacy and atmosphere, which they wrap around immaculately crafted pop songs like smoke. Perfectly intoxicating.

Always in demand, Dreadsquad has worked with plenty of top Jamaican and European artists including Ward 21, Tenor Fly, Top Cat, General Levy, U Brown, Milion Stylez, Lady Chann, Tipa Irie, Jah Mason, Perfect Giddimani, Dr Ring Ding…the list goes on. So far Dreadsquad has released 4 mixtapes, 4 full-length producer albums and a host of vinyl and digital singles which made it into the top of the best DJ shops in Europe and into the playlists of the premier DJs of the world. The Dreadsquad sound is a worldwide sound taking influence and inspiration from all walks of life. It is glued together by Jamaican Soundsystem culture and modern Bass music culture and is a force to be reckoned with.

They came together over heartache and wine to create what has been described as "gorgeous folk/alt country pop, with equal parts darkness and cheeky humour " and "alternative bluegrass with a dark treacle folk centre". Simultaneously mournful and upbeat, The Mountain Firework Company’s driving and melodic sound comes from an all acoustic string band line up of guitars, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, double bass and drums. Taking the traditional bluegrass line-up in new directions, they incorporate country, folk, bluegrass and Americana within their sound.

Link | 3 | 1 | Robotobibok | Robotobibok | Robotobibok | Robotobibok (a blend of two Polish words for robot and skiver) was formed in 1998 in Wrocław, Poland. From the very beginning, their music has seemed to combine modern electronic music with the energy of improvised jazz. Strong and acoustic drums, double bass and trumpet intertwine with dreamy vibraphone, electric guitar and characteristic 70's analogue electronica. The result evokes the atmosphere of 70's electric jazz and early electroacoustic experiments. The core of Robotobibok's music is their post-jazz rhythm section, ostensibly inspired by the newest electronica, but going further and building more intricate structures. Robotobibok also try to develop their own language in improvisation; individual instruments sometimes do solo, but none of them dominates in the end.

Link | 3 | 1 | Luca Marenzio | Luca Marenzio | Italy | Luca Marenzio | Italian composer. While a chorister at Brescia cathedral he studied with [a=Giovanni Contino]. For nine years from 1578 he served Cardinal Luigi d'Este in Rome as musician and later choirmaster, making contacts at the Cardinal's brother's court in Ferrara. He was in Florence in 1588-9 and contributed to the music for the intermedi performed at a celebrated court wedding of 1589. In 1594 he came under Cardinal Aldobrandini's wing and met the poets Tasso and Guarini; the following year the Cardinal arranged his appointment to the King of Poland, at whose court in Warsaw he worked in 1596-8. By the time of his death a year later he was back in Rome as a Papal court musician. Marenzio was the greatest of those Italian composers whose fame rests entirely on their madrigals; his output includes no fewer than 500 such pieces and 80 villanellas, not to mention a small quantity of sacred music. The Rome in which he spent so much of his life was a thriving centre of amateur madrigal singing, which provided a ready market for the steady flow of madrigal books that he published from 1580 onwards. From the outset he showed complete fluency and mastery in setting light pastoral verse to music that combines an intimate response to the words with deft counterpoint and pleasantly varied rhythms and textures. Later Marenzio came to favor more serious, even morbid, texts and to write in a style that was at once austere and intense, making full use of dissonant and chromatic harmonies and yet hardly departing from a chaste, even flow. The majority of his madrigals are for five voices, with many for six and rather fewer for four; in the larger textures he increasingly uses the top two as equal high voices in an almost 'concerted' manner. Marenzio's madrigals made an immediate impact in England, and enormously influenced the English madrigalists; some were issued in Yonge's Musica Transalpina of 1588.

Link | 2 | 2 | Patrick Ascione | Patrick Ascione | France | Patrick Ascione | Patrick Ascione Patrick Ascione (Paris, France, October 22nd 1953, November 21st 2014) began composing in 1976 and shortly after joined the team of the Groupe de musique expérimentale de Bourges (GMEB, France) which he subsequently left in 1984. He has pursued his activities independently and has produced a series of pieces, the majority of which have been commissions from the Groupe de recherches musicales of the Institut national de l’audiovisuel (Ina-GRM) in Paris (France). Two distinct esthetic periods characterize his course of work: during the first, from 1977 to 1987, the composer placed an emphasis on the ties unifying acousmatic art and painting; ties arising from the use of a common permanent working surface which permits the painter to directly place his colors on the canvas just as the composer immediately captures sonorities on magnetic tape… He expressed this analogy and attempted to explore its ramifications in virtually all the works of this period (Métamorphose d’un jaune citron, 1978, Bleus et formes, 1981…). In the second period, from 1987 to the present, following upon this initial preoccupation, he presented the idea of a ‘spatial polyphony’ (‘polyphony’ of spaces and not uniquely of sounds); he inaugurated this path in 1989 with Espaces-paradoxes composed for 16 tracks. The concert works thus developed have as their objective the mastering and integration of the spatial dimension of the piece from the very beginning of its elaboration in studio via adequate multi-track techniques. A number of his pieces have been awarded prizes and mentions at various international competitions: Fontaines (La Défense/SACEM, France, 1978); Métamorphose d’un jaune citron (Bourges, France, 1979); Lune noire (Noroit-Léonce Petitot, France, 1989); Espaces-paradoxes (Ars Electronica, Austria, 1994). He was also a recipient of the ‘Léonard de Vinci Prize’ for Canada from the French Minister of Foreign Affairs (1991).

Link | 2 | 2 | Denver Harbor | Denver Harbor | United States | Denver Harbor | Denver Harbor was an American alternative rock band, based in San Diego, California. The band was formed in 2002 by former Fenix*TX members Will Salazar and Chris Lewis, along with F.O.N. members Aaron Rubin and Ilan Rubin. After self-releasing their debut EP Extended Play in 2003, they were temporarily signed to Universal Records, who released their 2004 full-length album Scenic. In 2002, after breaking up their band of seven years due to musical differences, Fenix*TX singer/guitarist Will Salazar and the remaining three Fenix*TX members went separate ways. While Salazar wanted to keep the band going (but was not legally allowed to), bassist Adam Lewis and drummer Damon DeLaPaz decided to extend their side-project Big Black Boat, which later changed its name to ChChCh HaHaHa and ultimately became the band I Sing the Body Electric. Guitarist Chris Lewis was caught in between, as he was asked to take part in Big Black Boat but also wanted to continue working with Salazar, and finally settled for a position alongside Salazar. Joined by F.O.N. members and brothers Aaron Rubin on bass and Ilan Rubin on drums — the latter of which was a protégé of blink-182 drummer and reality TV star Travis Barker — the duo formed Denver Harbor in December 2002, three months after Fenix*TX broke up.[1] The band made its stage debut on March 14, 2003 at The Scene in San Diego, California.[2] They recorded three songs in their home studio ("All I Want", "Move On" and a cover version of Avril Lavigne's "I'm with You"), that were uploaded onto MP3.com to help spread the word. Within weeks, they had a solid fanbase, mainly former Fenix*TX fans. Following a stint of intimate club shows, Denver Harbor returned to the recording studio with producer Joe Marlett, to work on the songs that would become their debut EP Extended Play (2003). Fans voted the EP's single "Outta My Head" to the top of KEDJ 103.9 The Edge's online chart, securing the band a spot in front of a crowd of 20,000 on the radio station's Edgefest, hosted on September 20, 2003. Extended Play was released under the band's own imprint, called Angry Pirate Records, on December 16, 2003. Throughout 2003 and 2004, the release was promoted by tours with Sugarcult, Story of the Year, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes and Flogging Molly, helping the CD's first print run to sell out within half a year. Their continuing success attracted the attention of several record labels, including Universal Records, who signed Denver Harbor in May 2004. The band released their full-length debut Scenic on October 12, 2004. Musically, the album was much more diverse than Fenix*TX's material, with influences ranging from post-grunge to reggae to pop rock, although the band's pop punk roots were also clearly audible. However, due to Universal's lack of promotion, the album did not manage to chart the Billboard 200, which ultimately led to the label dropping the band exactly one year after their signing. After that, things quieted down around the quartet until in September 2005, Fenix*TX reunited for a final tour. While Fenix*TX and Allister co-headlined the tour, Day at the Fair, Houston Calls and Denver Harbor supported, which meant that Salazar, Chris Lewis and eventually Ilan Rubin — who would replace Fenix*TX drummer DeLaPaz halfway through the tour — had to play two sets every night.[3] Denver Harbor finally went their separate ways in 2006. Drummer Ilan Rubin then went on to play for Welsh alternative metal band Lostprophets before becoming drummer for Nine Inch Nails. Link | 1 | 3 | August Premier | August Premier | August Premier | The arc of August Premier's career perfectly depicts life and the peaks and valleys associated with our finite time spent together. AP started out emotionally driven and wildly ambitious with their debut indie release, "Balloons...Everything's Okay". Through unguided dedication, AP eventually climbed the industry ladder and secured a spot on the quasi-major Fueled By Ramen Records. The move eventually led to their sophomore release "Fireworks and Alcohol", which was an incredibly polished but somewhat hollow milestone that was tarnished by an anticlimactic conclusion to their arduous journey to popularity. The similarities between life and the goals we strive for are never more evident then at this very moment in AP's experience. That's because what we all eventually learn is that the celebration should never be about reaching the pinnacle of your career or the apex of your life. The joy should be discovered in the journey to get to the summit. As is the rule of thumb, what goes up must come down. The ensuing descent and subsequent valley led to the disbanding of AP. Throughout the better part of the next decade the various members established several side projects, which led to an increase in maturity, musical skill and most of all, life experience. As is the way with life, there was a slow and steady climb back up the proverbial mountain. Now instead of the haphazard attempt to ascend to the top of the musical game. AP has resurfaced with the intention of concentrating on maintaining a slow and steady ascent while staying focused on the path that is most important. The path of contentedness with the idea that they will enjoy the moment more than the climax. Because as we'll all slowly come to realize with time and experience, life's about friends, family and the support of those around us. Not the places our success takes us. It doesn't matter why AP fell from their lofty perch, but what I do know is you can't be happy without experiencing what the miserable side of life has to offer.

Link | 3 | 1 | SonVer | SonVer | London | SonVer | Joanna Quail, Ben McLees SonVer started life late in 2003, when Jo Quail [cellos, programming] and Ben McLees [guitar, programming, samples] recorded 'Until The Stones Melt' as an experiment/side project away from their band Earth Loop Recall. As well as being ELR'S keyboardist, Jo has also played cello with a number of bands and artists, including Rose McDowall, Hush The Many, Black Eyed Peas and Digitonal. Prior to being ELR's lead singer and guitarist, Ben played guitar in late 1990's alternative band The Zero Club. Ben also plays bass in alternative band I Am Immune. The soundtrack feel to SonVer's music has led to work/collaborations with UK film production companies, and SonVer's live show often incorporates both still and movie projection created by filmmaker Simon Bryant. In 2005, SonVer released their self-titled debut album, and followed up the release with a series of live dates, including Ashton Court Festival in Bristol, WGT in Leipzig and Fimbulvetr in Edinburgh. In spring 2007 the "Vigil EP" was released, and shortly afterwards SonVer expanded to a 4-piece with Alistair Richardson on drums and Ruban Byrne on guitar & bass joining Jo and Ben. 2008 saw the release of an untitled split compilation with friends Rose Mcdowall & Naevus, a collborative EP with the belgian act Elephant Leaf ("3 Songs EP") and the second LP by SonVer ("Luz Del Abyss"). Richardson and Byrne left the group in 2009 following a string of European Festival dates, with SonVer continuing as a trio with percussionist Will Connor until the end of the year. SonVer officially split at the end of 2009, with McLees & Quail parting ways to concentrate on respective solo projects.

Bai Konte was a jali, or praise singer, and master kora musician. Father of [a=Dembo Konte] and Sherrifo Konteh, who continue to live in Brikama. He popularized the Casamance kora style (better known in Senegal than Gambia), which includes extensive improvisations with powerful strumming, and a more polyrhythmic and percussive technique. Also unique to his performances was rhythmic tapping (konkon) on the back of a kora by a second performer, and frequent use of a group of backing vocalists to accompany his own singing and storytelling. Bai Konte generally tuned his kora to a higher pitch than was standard at the time, giving a brighter sound to the instrument; another technique that has since gained popularity.

Their self-titled debut was released on the Norwegian independent label Fysisk Format. The lyrics are sung in Western Norwegian, and includes comments on lyrical themes like sexism, racism, environmentalism/animal rights, but at the same time covering individual isolation, social fragmentation and a solid kick upwards to the herders of a psychotic society.

Link | 1 | 3 | Phoenix 2003 | Phoenix 2003 | Phoenix 2003 | Phoenix 2003 was a one-hit wonder German Techno studio project that was created and produced by the people who run and manage the label Warner Music Germany. The project was a one time only gig to help promote the label in 2003 by doing a Trance cover of Ozzy Osbourne's old hit "Dreamer". The female vocalist in the song also sang for the Austrian Trance band Beat Checkazz in 2000 and was rediscovered by Warner Music and asked to sing for them. The singer has not given out her name before or done any interviews, but producers from Warner Music and the Beat Checkazz have stated that she is a native of Milano, Italy and is in her personal life outside singing a bartender. Phoenix 2003 was co-produced by the incredible Cascada DJ Team members: Manuel Reuter (DJ Manian) and Yann Peifer (Yanou). The duo also did an incredible remix for the single under Yanns's stage name Yanou and just this year had it used in Phoenix 2003's first and only music video for their song "Dreamer". The project might someday return with a new cover, but it is very unlikely, the project was just a promotion stint and probably will never return again.

Link | 3 | 1 | Kerser | Kerser | Kerser | When it comes to Australian rapper Kerser, there has never been any need for hyperbole, his rags-to-riches success story, and the stats around him speak for themselves. In his early twenties, Kerser cut his teeth in the warzone that is Sydney’s outer-west battle-rap scene. Already having experienced a life ridden with hardship, Kerser had a thicker skin than most. As he defeated opponent after opponent, the emcee found himself opposite ARIA Award winning pop rapper [a1483529]. The footage from the battle went viral via YouTube, and new fans were won over by the rebellious emcee. Joining forces with local producer [a1309089], the two injected epic club beats into a unique brand of hip hop. Inspired by long players including [a37908], [a209748], [a100752], [a38661], [a180140], [a1065010] and [a50513]. Accumulating over 135,000 fans on Facebook with no marketing assistance or radio play, the brazen emcee initially opted only to self-promote via a monthly video upload to YouTube, some of which received up to 100,000 views in 48 hours. With his overall YouTube views now exceeding 28 million and his Facebook following 219,000+, Kerser still holds the highest hit rate over any other Oz Hip Hop artist. Still releasing monthly videos, Kerser continues to generously share his uncensored personal stories through his music, and his fiercely loyal fan-base continues to grow. Kerser’s debut effort The Nebulizer ran down the gates of convention in 2011. Second album No Rest for the Sickest, was released Nov 2012 ([l569271], [l21928] Distribution) taking business to a whole new level. Kerser had created an honest, raw and ruthless sophomore album, his notorious conviction still intact. In the weeks surrounding the release, No Rest for the Sickest charted at #1 on the national ARIA Urban charts, #1 on the iTunes Hip Hop charts, and #14 on the overall iTunes charts (not to mention the lesser known accolade of ‘Most Stolen Album From JB HiFi’). At 2012’s Sprung Hip Hop Festival Kerser joined the cream of the crop, his set receiving a huge response. In early 2013, Kerser acquired new management through Obese Records, and set off on his national tour. With his infamous cohort of Campbelltown crew in tow, Kerser’s high-energy stage shows successfully packed out venues all around the country. The emcee also played to a massive audience at the Breath of Life Festival in Tasmania festival alongside [a1483529], [a2685080], [a3100115] and other notable hip hop heavyweights and international electronic acts. His profile rising steadily, Kerser was approached by acclaimed fashion labels Familia brands (Dissizit), Algierz and Burn. In March of 2013 Kerser and brother [a3050394] released the hit single ‘We Here Now’. The single’s popularity spurred a whirlwind national We Here Now Regional tour. In August of 2013 Kerser released his first live tour DVD which debuted at #1 on the National ARIA Charts above [a36988]. With footage recorded during his No Rest for the Sickest National Tour, the DVD (produced by Full Clip) included show highlights from his Melbourne and Sydney shows. Third album S.C.O.T was released in October 2013, and triggered chart results that shocked and confused critics nationally. S.C.O.T maintained a strong position at #2 on the overall iTunes charts, second only to international pop superstar [a971243]. A week later it was announced that S.C.O.T had secured #5 on the main ARIA Charts and #1 on the ARIA Urban Charts. After his evident popularity, and his social media following fast accumulating, media and industry could not help but recognise the hard working emcee. For the first time his tracks were played by not only local radio, but triple j’s Hip Hop Show as well. In January of 2014 Kerser was asked to appear on Channel 10’s morning program Studio 10 speaking in defence of rap lyrics taken out of context. As well as embarking on his own national tour selling out venues around the country, Kerser went on to release a second tour DVD for his S.C.O.T national tour. The DVD was released in September of 2014, and reached #2 on the National ARIA Charts. As part of the 2014 festival bills for Big Day Out and Good Life (Future Music’s underage festival), Kerser toured nationally with the likes of [a175395], [a132084] AKA [a2859872], [a792536] & [a803809], [a1474921], [a2384511], and many more. Kerser’s fourth LP King was released in November 2014, and shot straight to #1 on the ARIA Urban Charts, #9 on the main ARIA Charts, #1 on the iTunes Hip Hop Charts, and #4 on the main iTunes Charts. 2015 dawned a new era for the unlikely C-Town hero. Signing a distribution deal with ADA (Warner Music Australia), his 5th LP (in as many years) ‘Next Step’ was released via the launching of Kerser’s very own label and much-anticipated [l1067072]. The future for both artist and label is bright, and the buzz is loud. True of many rappers, Kerser uses his art form as catharsis. Despite his ability to project a staunch, sometimes cocky persona, one can safely assume this is a case of necessity rather than preference. One of, if not the most humble artists in the game, Kerser continues to attract attention from media, industry peers and new fans alike.

Above and beyond his many releases, awards for short film scores and compositions for other bands this media-shy all-rounder has already supported a number of well known acts (like Massive Attack) and fosters young, unknown artists. |

Her second album ' As the Moon and the Sun ' (2007/2008) , was the result of their final project of her career and offers an original vision of the ancient Sephardic tradition . In late 2009 she collected her first three years working on the DVD ' Ana Alcaide in concert ' , recorded in an ancient temple prayer ( Transito Synagogue of Toledo) with her usual collaborators . After a long period of dedication to motherhood, in 2012 he published her third album , ' The ballad of fire ' , composed work during her pregnancy and it marks a turning point in her personal and professional life. Ana has combined her studies , concerts and recording projects with her life in Toledo , the city where it was established in 2001 to coincide with her decision to resume her studies . This city is a daily source of inspiration and great influence on her music, often described as the ' Soundtrack of Toledo ' . Link | 1 | 3 | Glass Prism | Glass Prism | Glass Prism | Pennsylvania-based psychedelic rock band. The group originally formed as 'The El Caminoes' in the early 60s. The group was comprised of George Fox (piano and vocals), Steve Bond (drums), Jim Shrader (saxophone and bass) [a=Tom Varano] (lead guitar) and [a=Carl Siracuse] (guitar and organ). George Fox and Jim Shrader moved elsewhere after high-school and left the group. Steve Bond died in a car crash in 1966 and was replaced by Rick Richards. With the addition of bassist and singer [a=Augie Christiano], the official Glass Prism lineup was complete. The group signed a two-record deal with RCA in 1969 who requested a new name for the band. Christiano had the idea to record a concept album based on lyrics by Edgar Allen Poe and the band took its new name from their debut album title "Poe Through The Glass Prism". Their first album did moderately well but they wouldn't achieve any success beyond that. A national tour as the opening act for [a=Blood, Sweat and Tears] was cancelled and their second album, "On Joy And Sorrow", received virtually no promotion and failed to make the charts. Carl Siracuse left the group to join [a=The Buoys] in 1970 and the remaining members changed the group's name to 'Shenandoah' which recorded one unreleased album. Louie Cossa replaced Augie Christiano in 1971 and the group stopped performing altogether in 1976.

Link | 2 | 2 | Elektrofant | Elektrofant | Norway | Elektrofant | Klaus Skrudland, Knut Jonas Sellevold Elektrofant is an electronic music act from Sandnes, Norway. The band was formed in 2001 by Klaus Skrudland. Trond Anfinnsen was also part of the band until 2004, and was then replaced by Knut Jonas Sellevold. Their unconventional take on dance music, both in production and instrumentation, gave Elektrofant an unmistakably unique sound from the very beginning. They debuted with a loud bang when they released the Flipstick EP in 2003. The opening track, also named Flipstick, became a huge radiohit and has since then been regarded as a Norwegian electronic music classic. In 2004, their first LP "Wørk!" was released, which kept the original sound, but also added elements from rock and soul music, as well as some vocals. This record was also very well received by both press and fans and also gained international attention. After these two records, a bunch TV and radio shows and extensive touring both in Norway and Europe, Elektrofant disappeared from the music scene in 2008. Eight years later, they suddenly reemerged from their hiatus, with a banging new album called "1992". The new record is nothing less than strutting tribute to the old school techno and dance music from the early nineties. Even more, it brings back the classic, analogue, playful, unorthodox, colorful and hard hitting, groovy Elektrofant sound.

Her work first captured the attention of Felix da Housecat, who was interested in optioning two of her singles for his Rude Photo imprint. While the deal was never finalized, the discussion resulted in a relationship the Dust Traxx label group and a subsequent immigration from Louisville, Kentucky to Chicago where she began working solo and with Angel Alanis. In 2007 she joined DJ Pierre's Afro Acid label, released a debut single, "Xcite Bike" with Lil Surge on A-squared Muzik and an anonymous remix EP on a limited edition label called Mashed Potatoes. In the spring of 2008, Alanis and Foursquare, founding member DJ Local Hero plus contributors Flufftronix (Iheartcomix), Infiltrata AKA 12th Planet (Cartel, Renegade Hardware, Tech Itch) and Tittsworth collaborators ASiH + A Black in releasing a renegade remix album of Portishead's "Third" called "Third Floor: Portishead’s ‘Third’ Reimagined by Noise Floor Crew." The album was widely praised by media such as New York Magazine, who noted that Noise Floor Crew turns Portishead's Machine Gun "into an actual, you know, song" and heralded them in the same breath as Oukast, Three-Six Mafia and My Morning Jacket. Featuring her production with Alanis on seven of the eleven tracks, the album also found a famous fanbase within the electronic music community, with vocal support from Miss Kittin, Laurent Garnier, Drop The Lime, Benny Benassi and many more. With only a 100 physical copies were pressed, digital downloading crashed servers and broke traffic records for the blogs that first hosted it. The singles from the album appeared on dozens of prominent radio shows like Dave Clarke's White Noise Radio. Foursquare followed the first offering from Noise Floor Crew with a debut techno imprint, Klientele, again with partner, Angel Alanis. The pair are busy with remixes (including two reworks of the upcoming collaboration between Lil Louie Vega and DJ Pierre and a Lauren Flax single featuring Sia) and originals for Klientele. Alanis and Foursquare have also reunited with Noise Floor Crew founder, Local Hero to record their first official album, to be released in 2009. |

Link | 2 | 2 | Phillip Manuel | Phillip Manuel | Phillip Manuel | “A local treasure,” says Eric Paulsen, anchor of WWL TV’s top rated morning show in New Orleans. “Phillip is in a class by himself,” this from Richard Bourcier of Jazz at a Glance. After a sold out performance at Yoshi’s in Oakland, California, The San Francisco Chronicle wrote, “Manuel sang the wordless melody as if it were a prayer. His ethereal high tones suggested Bobby McFerrin, his sensuous low ones, Billy Eckstine.” From New York to Los Angeles; from Portugal to Paris, Phillip Manuel has graced the worlds’ stages with some of the biggest stars in jazz. His voice has been described as dramatic, warm and full of soul. One critic said his voice charms and seduces and his range sounds effortless. Phillip ManuelTo say that Phillip Manuel’s talents are diverse is to state the obvious. While his musical abilities are obvious, Phillip is also an accomplished actor, writer and sought after voice over talent. Musically, recent performances attest to his unique ability to cross genres without missing a beat His current CD, for example, finds him at his soulful R&B best, performing 12 original compositions—a marked departure from his other jazz recordings. A concert with the Mobile Symphony orchestra in January, 2009 featured Phillip singing American classics in a program entitled “Songs of the South.” A few months earlier he performed Duke Ellington’s Sacred Mass along with Charmaine Neville, of the iconic Neville family. Phillip wowed the audience at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in 2008, performing his Nat “King” Cole retrospective to rave reviews. In a further test of his talents, on a world tour with trumpeter and film composer, Terence Blanchard, Manuel sang the entire tour in Portuguese. The tour was in support of Blanchard’s Grammy nominated album, “The Heart Speaks,” featured the music of Brazilian songwriter, Ivan Linns. The following year, Phillip accompanied Blanchard on tour following his Sony release, an album of Negro Spirituals featuring classical vocalist Jubilant Sykes. In addition to his current CD, Phillip has an impressive body of work including his 2001 release, “Love Happened To Me,” for the MAXJAZZ label; “Swingin’ in the Holidays” Phillip’s Christmas release in 1999; The soundtrack for the movie, “Cane River,” filmed in Louisiana and as featured guest on compilations, and CDs with other artists.

He has composed and performed with an ensemble of microtonal instruments of his own design and also worked as a shadow puppeteer, tuning theorist, filmmaker, world music radio DJ and concert promoter. His works feature his own ensembles of acoustic instruments, including metallophones, marimbas, hammered dulcimers and reed organs tuned to microtonal just intonation scales. His compositions include accompaniments for silent films and shadow plays. An important influence in the development of Grady's music was Harry Partch, like Grady, a musician from the Southwest, and a composer of theatrical works in Just Intonation for self-built instruments. Born in Montebello, California in 1952, Grady began composing while still in his teens. After studies with [a=Nicolas Slonimsky], [a=Dean Drummond], Dorrance Stalvey and Byong-Kon Kim , he produced his earliest compositions. Since meeting tuning theorist Erv Wilson in 1975, he has composed and performed in alternative tunings based on Wilson’s theories, first in 31-tone equal temperament, and eventually in the just intonation resources of Wilson's combination-product sets and meta-slendro.
