Link | 1 | 1 | X Plastaz | X Plastaz | Tanzania | Tanzanian hip hop musical group | X Plastaz | Abdalla Minja, Diana Rutta, Godson Rutta, Nelson Rutta, Steven Rutta, Yamat Ole Meipuko X Plastaz is an African hip-hop group from Arusha, Tanzania, consisting of six members; the brothers Faza Nelly (aka Ruff-Nell), Gsan, and Ziggy-Lah, Maasai singer Yamat Ole Meipuko a.k.a Merege, and two teenage siblings of the brothers, Diney and Steve. The group was formed in 1996 and has had the aforementioned line-up since 2001. One of the most successful groups out of Tanzania, with a unique twist, they have a traditional Maasai singer wearing traditional Maasai clothing, focusing their sound and style on the Maasai tradition, which is a new path for Bongo Flava (a nickname for Tanzanian hip hop music, taking its name from the Swahili word ubongo, meaning "brain" and bongo, "brains", is the plural). Their main vocals are largely based on Maasai sounds and deep a cappella chanting, with rapping in Swahili and Haya languages. Their style of music is slower paced than most other hip hop from Africa. Their 2004 album "Maasai Hip hop" was released by German label [l=Out Here Records], and has earned them the status as the best known Tanzanian hip hop artists internationally. The album includes "Msimu kwa Msimu", their biggest hit to date, as wells as older tracks like "Bamiza" and "Aha!". Nelly (Nelson Chrizostom Buchard Rutta) died of injuries 29th March, 2006 after being stabbed. Born 1976, he was the oldest member of the group. |
Link | 1 | 1 | Saris | Saris | Germany | Neo-prog band from Germany | Saris | SARIS founded back in 1981. From 1981 until 1983 they toured extensively in their native Germany, as well as recording the single “Out of Your Night”. For various reasons, there was disagreement about the new musical direction and an upcoming album. So Saris went on the back burner for a few years. In 1992, a new line-up was in place though, as Martin Gellhaus (vocals), Udo Raitzig (bass), Stefan Kremer (keyboards) and Helge Bungert (drums, vocals) joined Akkermann for the recording of an album, released as “Dead End Street” in 1993. A subsequent tour followed and at the end of this, Raitzig and Bungert left the band. It took several years before replacements were found, but in 1998, Lutz Günther (bass) and Achim Schmidt (drums, keyboards) joined Saris and for the next year, recording sessions took place with highly promising results that all band members were exceedingly pleased with. Sadly though, personal issues saw to it that the band split up again. In 2006, Akkermann, Schmidt and Günther decided to give the band another go and with the addition of Anja Günther (vocals) and Thomas Hackmann (vocals), new recordings were planned and in 2009 a finished album saw the light of day – “Curse of Time”. The album got favorable reviews, and their mix of neo-progressive rock and hard rock was generally deemed likeable. But on May 23rd 2009 disaster strikes, when Achim Schmidt suddenly died after suffering pulmonary embolism. After all, SARIS canceled the scheduled European and USA-tours. Derk Akkermann decided to continue SARIS as a project with Anja Günther and Lutz Günther joining him and wrote new songs for a third album. This album is meant to continue the musical direction of “Curse” and to bring out the quality of the vocalists. Thomas Hackmann, who was responsible for lead and backing vocals on "Curse Of Time", decided to contribute his support to the backing vocals (which he also successfully contributes to many international productions). In this, he was assisted by Anja Günther and Lutz Günther. Anja's voice should also be heard more often on the leading vocals. For the male lead vocals, Henrik Wager joined the band. Henrik, born in Manchester (GB), had a professional training at the "School of Performing Arts" and the conservatory in Birmingham (GB). Henrik works throughout Europe for musical theaters and various music projects as singer, songwriter and producer. The Flying Pickets, Sefan Raab's "TV Total" Band Heavytones, Lionel Richie to meantion just a few. Henrik is known as a musical artist worldwide and can be admired in many successful musicals as a leading actor on the stages of Europe. On drums, SARIS is complemented by the experienced drummer and percussionist Jens Beckmann, who is well booked as a music teacher, studio and session drummer. "Until We Have Faces" was recorded partly in SARIS own studio and partly in the "Principal Studios" where it was also mixed and mastered. Engineer, co-producer and label boss Joerg Umbreit has given this album a new dimension. The result is a big, international production with first class hard rock AOR vocal lines, neo-progressive instrumental passages and Saris' typical symphonic melodies. Besides the obligatory long track, there are also radio-friendly songs with catchy tunes. Since the performance in German Rock-TV, april 2015, keyboarder Christoph Gröger became new bandmember of SARIS. |

Link | 1 | 1 | Soldier's Heart | Soldier's Heart | Soldier's Heart | Soldier's Heart is a young Belgian band wich was formed in 2012. Within a year a lot of things happened. Benjamin Cools (octapad), Sylvie Kreusch (vocals) and Laurens Marien (synths) started the band with the idea to create a specific, personal sound. Before they knew it, a new band member had arrived: Jasper Segers (guitar). Because the band wanted more layers in their sound, but still stick to the concept of no-computer nor acoustic drum on stage, they decided to add another bandmember, the youngest one, Ferre Marnef (Bass). The band was selected for Humo's Rock Rally and received the Cutting Edge Awards 2013 for ‘Talent of the Year’. In April 2013 they won ‘De Nieuwe Lichting’, a competition where the Belgian radio station Studio Brussel was looking for new, talented bands. The reason for the success in this competition was their first single ‘African Fire’ and their dynamic cover of the song ‘Broad Daylight’ (Gabriel Rios). ‘African Fire’ is a song that balances between dreams and reality. Sylvie Kreusch takes you away with her thin fragile voice on a journey that feels like coming home.

Link | 1 | 1 | Massive Dub Corporation | Massive Dub Corporation | Massive Dub Corporation | Massive Dub Corporation [Bourges / FR] Massive Dub Corporation or MDC consists of four multi-instrumentalist dub activists with one common idea, exploring dub and its borders (if there are any). With this young band born in Bourges in early 2010 - the project started both in the studio and on stage - navigating between CAM and instrumental music, everything is in balance: synthetic rhythm and acoustic phrasing are mixed perfectly. Sounds pass through various environments, from the “french dub” to things more roots, or stepper oriented and dedicated to the sound systems. Their two first albums on ODGprod - "Conception" and "Time For The Bus", rich & multi-faceted dub EPs - and many powerful gigs all over France, sharing stages with people like Zion Train, Stand High Patrol, and many more, only give a hint about what will come about in the future. The dub machines and instruments already run hot on new material... On the controls you find: bass (Bruno) / keys, composing and added vocals to the mix (Antoine) / guitar, composing (Thomas) / trombone (Julien) / saxophone (Benoit). "Mix all our universe and you get Massive Dub Corporation."

Link | 0 | 2 | Jon DaSilva | Jon DaSilva | Jon Dasilva | Jon DaSilva Dasilva was inspired by the wacked-out disco of DJ's Levan and Kevorkian and sonic experiments of the likes of Can, Suicide, Adrian Sherwood, and the early 80's Hip Hop scene turning his attention instead to the decks... Soon enthralled by the dark sound of Chicago House he moved to Manchester, England his heart set on DJing at the pre-E, House haven that was Fac 51 The Haçienda.Dasilva's mixing skills and innovative style were so impressive that he was promptly invited to become one of the club’s resident DJ’s on what was to become the legendary HOT night... Dasilva’s studio work started with a remix of The New Fast Automatic Daffodils “Big (Baka)” back in 1989, an inspired collision of Sheffield bleeps, African chants and dubbed out Indian tablas, it recently appeared on the Headman DJ mix CD (Eskimo, 2005) and in many ways sets the tone for this unpredictable and idiosyncratic producer. Jon Dasilva, “the acid house legend” (Jockey Slut Magazine), proves himself ever relevant in his own mercurial way. Some quotes about Jon Dasilva! “I heard Jon Dasilva playing a cappella first, he was the master of that stuff and I ripped his style. He was the one DJ at the Hacienda who really constructed a set and used a cappella and sound effects, mixed in key, built a set into a soundscape. He was the person who influenced me more than any other DJ.” Sasha (Interview in Jockey Slut Magazine, 2002). "Jon Dasilva is the Eric Cantona of House music!" Mark Rae (Grand Central Recordings, 1998). "The Hot thing, everyone thinks it was just an acid house night but it wasn't because Jon Dasilva at the time was one of the greatest Djs in the world and Dasilva was Balearic. He'd never admit to being Balearic but we'd go early doors and Jon would do his warm up and it was fucking outstanding man. He'd play these really weird dubbed out reggae things and sound effects and slow disco things. Jon was incredibly Balearic. I mean no-one would play disco records at the time but Jon would make a disco record sound like a house record. At the time youd just think thats just another house record but listening back to tapes Ive got you think fucking hell, I cant believe he played that in the middle of a house set but he mixed it all in incredibly well, The thing that interested me most wasn't the house stuff but the weird records that pushed me more down that Balearic route. Mike Pickering would just be plying banging acid records, Chicago, Detroit thing but we'd queue up to get in. Once I was right at the front of the queue, sat there for an hour and half waiting to get it just so I could hear Dasilva play fucking Summer Rain Fall in the first five minutes, which is this BBC Sound Effects thing, just the sound of rain pouring down.

Strangely named after a pipe tobacco, Murphy Blend were quite a mystery. They were also a rarity in early German rock, as they combined the psychedelic Krautrock sound with heavy rock, blues and classical musics. Their music had hints of early Jane and Pell Mell, but apart from that they had a unique style, with a strongly accented vocalist, topical lyrics and heady instrumentals, heavily featuring chunky Hammond organ.

Link | 1 | 1 | Every Knee Shall Bow | Every Knee Shall Bow | Little Rock | Every Knee Shall Bow | Few bands today strike with the power and ferocity it takes to truly drive the listener to submission—Arkansas-based American Metal act Every Knee Shall Bow is one of them. Storming onto the scene with intense, punishing instrumentation and lacerating, excruciating vocals, this young but prodigally talented act have taken the underground by storm and forcing fans of heavy, exigent—yet faith-filled—music to their knees. Beginning in 2009, Every Knee Shall Bow was formed by Shane, Drew, Cole and DJ, creating a sturdy, immense instrumental force to be reckoned with. The act was completed with the addition of vocalist Chris Hull in late 2010, allowing the band to jump head first into developing a live set and showing off their unique brand of thrash-influenced death metal. After bouts of incessant live performances and determined songwriting, Every Knee Shall Bow began to gain the press and media coverage they deserved with features in several noteworthy underground metal and hardcore magazines—HM and Christian Underground among them. It wasn't until mid-2013 that the band released their first full length album, Slayers of Eden, which took the metal world by storm. Packed with razor sharp, jarring riffs, pummeling percussion and sinister, brutalizing breakdowns, the intensity on Slayers of Eden is record-breaking. These young but masterful musicians combine clever and crushing songwriting with faith and emotional conviction to create an immersive experience that captivates the listener both on record and in person—making Every Knee Shall Bow a band you will definitely want to get on your feet for.

British singer-songwriter, actress, and director who now performs under the stage name [a=Natalia Kills]. While writing music for films, Kills posted her self-produced and written demo extended play, "Wommanequin" on music social website MySpace in 2007 that attracted the attention of blogger Perez Hilton in 2008, her song received 2 million plays on the website and Kills reached the top of the unsigned artists chart. With offers coming in for concerts and festivals, Kills moved to Los Angeles. In LA, Kills was approached by producers, A&R and labels with contracts. A DJ introduced her to [a=Will I Am] after hearing her demo and learning that she did not have a record deal. In January 2008, will.i.am signed her to his record label, [l=Will.i.am Music Group]. She did not sign right away as she had reservations about the music industry and will.i.am had to go to London a month later to convince her to record with him. During this time she also co-wrote and appeared on "They Talk Shit About Me" by French recording artist [a=M. Pokora] and met underground director Guillaume Doubet, who would go on to direct many of her videos, in Paris. After that, she adopted the stage name Natalia Kills at the behest of her record company, which found "Natalia Cappuccini" hard to pronounce.

In 2001, Vasko Velickovski began DJing by the name Vaserman and would play full on hard dark sets inspired by such artists as Droidseckt, Parasense, Haldolium, Xenomorph, Psy Side. However, It was not until 2003, that Vasko Velickovski decided to go beyond what music he could buy and started letting those tunes in his head emerge. Link | 1 | 1 | Ofege | Ofege | Ofege | Ofege was formed in the early 1970s by a bunch of teenage hippies at the prestigious St. Gregory's College in the Obalende area of Lagos Nigeria. Ofege was largely influenced by the guitar solos of Carlos Santana, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Francis Rossi, and the criss-cross rhythms of Osibisa. At home, they were influenced by the music of ‘BLO’ (Berkley Jones, Laolu Akins and Mike Odumosu), ‘Monomono’ (led by Joni Haastrup), The Funkees, and Ofo The Black Company He also said "It's clear that for Ofege, songs were largely incidental, little more than excuses to launch into insane, distorted guitar solos. It's also very clear that they smoked a lot of weed." Their first album was recorded while the band members were still in high school (average age of 16), Ofege’s debut album Try And Love was originally recorded and released in 1973. Due to their vibrant combo of sweet harmonies, hooks & fuzz, they would become one of the most legendary Nigerian groups of all time, with expressive sales and national stardom. However, with only four albums released until 1978 and no recognition outside Nigeria, Ofege’s short career would only be rediscovered with the turn of the century. "Try and Love" was published actually before "The Last of the Origins". "Nobody Fails" continues in the same vain, with slight what I called post-60s harmony vocals (also especially “It’s not easy” has such vocals). Also here in this song the fuzz breaks out/breaks free, wild and uncompromising, while the rhythms in an African way are repeated and smoothly carry the song. Also here the bits of funky elements are completely dissolved in the psychedelic effect of all. The rhythms are complex and groovy. "The Last Of The Origins" is a great funk-rock record with a rather psychedelic approach. The rhythm section is attractive and complex and has African inspirations. The songs themselves aren’t really great lyrically, but the drive is incredible, and everywhere they can they add attention to instrumental parts where the organ, in a psychedelic way takes care of mind-losing groove, while fuzz guitars soar and improvise. The vocals can be post-60s, a bit Stones like or just leave themselves flooding with the psychedelic drive. It took some years before other albums appeared since some band members still had to finish university. Its Members included; Melvin Noks: Lead Vocals/Rhythm. Paul Alade: Bass Guitar. Mike Meme: Drums. Soga Benson: Lead/Solo Guitar. Felix Ijeh: Rhythm/Tenor Guitar. Dapo Olumide: Keyboards. Felix Inneh: Percussionist.

Link | 0 | 2 | Paul Boex | Paul Boex | Paul Boex | Established DJ, experienced producer, label-boss, event promotor and one half of one of techno’s most exciting collaborations around. A little over a decade after first involving himself with electronic music, Paul Boex is able to check the box next to all of those qualifications. Outspoken, driven and armed with an open mind and critical ear, he has developed a forward-thinking, hands-on approach to music; one he’s keen on sharing with all willing to listen. Having performed in the past at Awakenings, Soenda, Techno Flash, Planet Rose and his own Mental Evolution, alongside personal inspirations like Jeff Mills, Robert Hood and Regis, Paul has earned his stripes through dedication and hard work. Consequently, a Boex DJ-set is very much like a fine dinner; sophisticated and carefully chosen ingredients arranged under an expert chef’s watchful eye. The end result a dish both familiar and surprising in taste, never the same, always fulfilling. Recently Paul joined forces with friend and fellow artist Dave Miller to form Abstract Division. Within seemingly no time they have caught the attention of many an ear and eye, putting out quality music on various labels and delivering an intriguing and deft stage performance at every gig. Dynamic Reflection, Paul’s own label, saw the light of day in 2008 and has since then evolved into a proper, vision-based, heavyweight imprint. Releasing both own material and work by among others Oscar Mulero, Ben Sims, Jonas Kopp, Shifted, ROD, Reeko, Forward Strategy Group, Norman Nodge, Peter van Hoesen, Samuli Kemppi and Jeroen Search, it has left an unmistakeable mark on the genre itself. What makes Dynamic Reflection stand out in particular is its owner’s determination to maintain a careful balance between well-known producers and upcoming talent, always allowing for an influx of unconventional, innovative music. Now, with many promising plans scheduled, both in terms of performances and productions, the future is looking bright for Paul, Abstract Division and Dynamic Reflection alike.

Heavily influenced by the early techno and house movements he added to his sound new romantic and electro influences. Since 1993 Jori has released numerous 12"s and albums on various labels like Lumi, Hybrid, Trainspotter's Nightmare, ACV, Plumphouse and F-Communications. In 1996 was released his critically acclaimed debut album "Selkäsaari Tracks" (F communications) which is an original blend of Detroit soundscapes and Chicago influenced jacking beats. Since that everything started to happen big time. Jori started doing live acts and DJ gigs all over Europe; firstly as a part of F communications tours which covered some of Europes most famous clubs such as The Rex (France), The End (UK), Cream (UK), E-Werk (Germany), Kadoc (Portugal), and Paradiso (The Netherlands) to name but a few, and after that as an artist on his own merits. Also, Jori has seen the best that Europe has to offer club and festival wise: Roskilde, Sonar, Transmusicales, Montreaux Jazz festival, 10 days Of Techno, Respect at Le Queen, Moog, Florida 135, Vertigo, KU, Who's Who Land, Chemistry - not forgetting clubs and festivals in his native Finland and Sweden. Jori has also kept himself busy on the production front. After an album for the Swedish Plumphouse-label (Bobby Forester "Love You Forever, 1997), and an album for Trainspotter's Nighmare (Finland: 0 points, 1997) Jori released probably his biggest record so far: Jii Hoo "Let Me Luv U" on F-Communications - a record played and praised by DJs and musiclovers worldwide. In 1998 Jori re-invented his sound once again on his "The Spirits Inside Me" album (F communications), a record that permanently established Jori as a household name in the scene

The inaugural band, Blacktop Mourning, is a Chicago-based Rock/Pop Punk band that Duritz discovered on MySpace.com. According to Pamela Coady, MTV Music Supervisor, "Blacktop Mourning is a great new rock band that we have placed on at least 11 MTV shows. Almost everyone in the MTV music department wanted Blacktop Mourning's music on their shows! We are really looking forward to their new album – ‘No Regret.’" Blacktop Mourning’s music hit MySpace in late 2005 and within two weeks, the band had inked a deal with MTV. By the six month mark, their songs had been played on nearly a dozen MTV shows and the band had been selected an “MTV Featured Artist.” Blacktop Mourning is a blend of accomplished musicians led by songwriter Max Steger, an 18- year-old guitar prodigy, who could be found jamming in Chicago’s famed blues clubs by the age of twelve. Ahmet Ertegun, legendary co-founder of Atlantic Records, called Max “one of the best guitar players I’ve ever seen.”

Link | 1 | 1 | Sarah Rabdau | Sarah Rabdau | Sarah Rabdau | With piano that glitters and smolders, and vocals that seethe and soar, Sarah RabDAU and Self-Employed Assassins' songs are a wish list of things we should have said. "You should have loved me," the heroine laments to her lover/victim in the band's namesake ballad, Self-Employed Assassin. In the delightfully nasty Crushing, a rising starlet is rebuked for her ruthless ambition: "I hope all the people that you stepped on didn't stain your dress." Rabdau warbles, whispers and wails these quips with a voice that most closely resembles that of Bjork or Elizabeth Frasier of the Cocteau Twins. Rabdau's piano pounds and cascades, drawing equally from Erik Satie and Phil Spector, with unapologetic nods to the usual girl-at-piano influences. Drummer Matt Graber (Mascara, ex-Caged Heat) demurs, bolsters and punctuates, always keeping the melody in the forefront. Self-Employed Assassins formed in 2005, as Rabdau was forging a new direction in the aftermath of her well-received William Orbit-influenced release, "Benevolent Apollo." Graber, then living in Israel, discovered Rabdau's music on the internet. "It was so strange to have a drummer contact me," says Rabdau. "Most of them avoid me like the black death because I'm not rock enough for them." Immediately upon Graber's return to Boston, the two "hit it off like brother and sister," says Rabdau. On stage, this connection is palpable. Watching Rabdau and Graber perform feels like you're intercepting a note passed in study hall. After two years of developing the songs live, Self-Employed Assassins set to work on an album, with Peter Moore (Count Zero, Think Tree, Blue Man Group) producing. The album mostly features the duo unadorned, occasionally embellished by a string quartet and guitar that call to mind This Mortal Coil. Collectively, the album's songs seem to depict a 21st century Emily Dickinson, emerging from her seclusion to find herself both exhilarated and terrified to be experiencing life first-hand. Hyperbolic figures are often called upon to illustrate the magnitude of her internal strife—a rejected lover so bitter that she becomes an assassin, or a girlfriend so oppressed that she feels like the imprisoned quadruple amputee in the 1993 film Boxing Helena. Self-Employed Assassins also offer upbeat gems such as Jackie, a tribute to a quadragenarian rocker who, in full E-Street Band glory, finally gets his due. Autumn Spills evokes the first breath of a fresh new season, where anything seems possible and the narrator deliberates on whether a wayward romance can, or should, be reclaimed. Carving out a niche that transcends scenes and sub-genres, Sarah RabDAU and Self-Employed Assassins have shared bills with Nicole Atkins and the Sea, Winterpills and HUMANWINE. The band now looks forward to supporting the album, bringing its energetic live show to dark halls throughout the United States and beyond. Not a day too soon—there are too many things waiting to be said

Link | 1 | 1 | Crys Cole | Crys Cole | Crys Cole | Crys Cole (1976) is a Canadian sound artist working in composition, performance and sound installation. Cole’s approach to sound emphasizes subtlety and discretion, guided by a fascination with microsonics that test the limits of audibility and intentionality. By drawing attention to the texture and delicacy of minimal sonic environments, Cole aims to create a heightened awareness not only of the sounds she creates, but of the environmental sounds that arise during listening – and ideally, of the listener’s own self-consciousness as a perceptual body and agent. She has performed in Canada, Japan, Australia, Thailand, the USA and throughout Europe. Cole has ongoing collaborations with James Rushford (AU) (under the name Ora Clementi) and with Oren Ambarchi (AU). She has also worked with Keith Rowe, Lance Austin Olsen, Jamie Drouin, Mathieu Ruhlmann, Tetuzi Akiyama, Seiji Morimoto, Anthea Caddy, echo ho, Tim Olive and many more. Her work has been published on labels Black Truffle (AU), Penultimate Press (UK), Touch (UK), MeGO (AT), caduc (CA), Bocian (PL), Another Timbre (UK) and Infrequency editions (CA/DE). Cole has exhibited in Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, the UK and Thailand.

Link | 1 | 1 | K.hammer.hansen | K.hammer.hansen | K.hammer.hansen | Karsten Hammer Hansen After a couple of childhood attempts at both the recorder and drums our k.hammer.hansen started playing the bass in 1991, after a while it was soon discovered that not enough noise was emitted from the instrument and a quick change to guitar was reality. The music played was similar in vein to that of old krautrock-classics like Can, Neu and Faust, newcomers such as Stereolab and Quickspace Supersport and of course the heroin-induced Spacemen 3 and Velvet Underground, i.e. monotone repetitive riffing that could carry on for as long as an hour a track. Other members of that project were a Boss Dr. Rhythm, a battered beaten-up bass, an Amiga 500, a Moog MG-1, a horde of effects and a Fostex 4-track. With time the music got more and more electrified and soon the brief flirt with acid house and techno of 1988-1990 bloomed again and so as the direct descendants of the experimental guitar-based material previously appearing from the bedroom, the sounds emerging are now electronic and analogue has been replaced with digital.

Link | 1 | 1 | Himmerland | Himmerland | Denmark | Himmerland | This Danish band is one of the most travelled outfits on Denmark's roots and folk music scene. Right now it is the drummer that has all the audience's attention. Bathed in coloured light from the spots, he sings and dances around behind his drum- kit, while his hands flash over the skins so fast that the eye can hardly keep up with them. Then the rest of the band join in on saxophone, violin, guitar and electric bass, and the marquee throbs with new roots and world music and happy listeners. It is as though everybody in the place has drunk of the same magic, intoxicating potion. Himmerland and the international festival community Himmerland tours in large parts of the world these years, performing new music rooted in the very different styles, cultures and traditions of five outstanding and very experienced composers and musicians. Where ever the band play, they bewitch and spread warmth and happiness amongst people, performing their unique blend of old Danish ballads, whirling fiddle tunes, equilibristic improvisations, and new fascinating music composed and arranged by the band members. Eskil Romme (sax), Ditte Fromseier (violin, vocal), Sigurd Hockings (guitar), Andrzej Krejniuk (electric bass) og Ayi Solomon (percussion) got together in 2010, played their first concerts at festivals and venues at the Faroe Islands, and in Hungary and Bulgaria n 2011, and released their first album, "New Roots Music from Denmark", in august 2012. The band did celebrate the album by planning a busy "CD release week", featuring concerts at the Danish Tønder Festival, at Alkantara Fest in Sicily, Koktebel Jazz Festival in Ukraine, and finally at the Harvest World Music Festival in Moscow. The album had very good reviews, and in 2013 it was nominated for a Danish Music Award (Danish "Grammy") as Folk Album of the Year. Since 2010 Himmerland has toured intensively in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Greece, England, Scotland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Russia, Canada, South America, Australia, and New Zealand, and in 2015 the band is going back to Australia to perform at Blue Mountains Music Festival and Port Fairy Folk Festival, amongst others. During the last couple of years, Himmerland has been featured on festivals like: The National Folk Festival (Canberra, Australia), Fairbridge Festival (Fairbridge, Australia), Goiikoorts Int. Volksmuziekfestival (Belgium), Festival Touscouleurs (Bodighera, Italy), Kaustinen Folk Festival (Finland), Summartónar (The Faroe Islands), La grand Recontre (Montreal, Québec, Canada), Mission Folk Festival (BC, Canada), The Bath Folk Festival (England), Urkult Festival (Näsåker, Sweden), Nordic Folk Festival (Tappernøje, denmark), Tønder Festival (Denmark), Alkantara Fest, (Catania, Sicily, Italy), Koktebel Jazz Festival (Ukraine), World Stage (Copenhagen, Denmark), Festival International de Musica Immigrante de Valpariso (Chile), Musicport Festival (Whitby, England), G!Festival (Gøte, The Faroe Island), The Carrying Stream Festival (Edinburg, Scotland), The Harvest World Music Festival (Moscow, Russia) and so on... _____________________________________________________ Himmerland is: ESKIL ROMME (Soprano Saxophone) is from Funen, but has lived in Himmerlands in Northern Jutland, most of his life. During the 30 years Eskil has played, he has mixed traditional Danish music with jazz and other related genres. On his many travels in Scandinavia and the UK, he has developed his very own "North Sea blend" of sounds and styles. In 2009 he released the album " Himmerlandsmelodier", which also was the beginning of the band Himmerland. Eskil is the artistic director of the small but well-reputed Halkær Festival, and he is known for its many international tours with bands like "Færd" and "Kryss". DITTE FROMSEIER (violin, vocals) comes from the small Danish island of Bornholm. Ditte is a highly profiled violinist and singer on the Danish folk music scene, she is involved in a variety of bands, and has toured in Denmark and around the world. She is known from Danish TV (Marie Haven), and for her work in bands like "Habbadám", "Fiolministeriet" and the violin and guitar duo "Fromseier/Hockings". SIGURD HOCKINGS (Guitar) Sigurd is known from bands like Habbadám and Fromseier Hockings. He is one of the most skilful and versatile folk guitarists in Denmark. Inspiration for his very individual and accomplished playing style has come from both Scandinavian and Celtic music traditions. Sigurd developed he’s guitar skills while studying guitar by Chris Newmann during he’s years at The Music Academy in Odense, Denmark ANDRZEJ KREJNIUK (Electric bass guitar, vocals) was born in Poland but has lived in Denmark most of his life. Andrzej is a respected musician and composer, and an excellent soloist on the electric bass guitar. He has extensive experience from the Danish and international jazz and world music scene, and he plays in bands like "Momento", "Sound of Polarity", "Lelo Nika", and of course with his own jazz fusion band, "Abstract Reality". AYI SOLOMON (percussion, vocals) is from Ghana but has lived in Copenhagen for more than 30 years. Solomon enjoys great respect wherever he has played the last several years, both in Denmark and internationally. He has released two albums in his own name, and he has performed and toured with a wide range of top professional bands and projects in genres like world music, rock, pop and jazz. Among the best known are "Pierre Dørge & The New Jungle Orchestra", "Moussa Diallo Band" and "Palle Mikkelborg".
