Link | 0 | 1 | Kenny Sultan | Kenny Sultan | Kenny Sultan | Kenny Sultan has been playing guitar since the age of seven. Soon thereafter, his brother introduced him to the blues of T-Bone Walker and Lightnin' Hopkins. The effect was permanent. Confirming his love for music and the blues, he graduated with honors from the University of California at Santa Barbara, where he majored in Music/Ethnomusicology. A noted teacher, he has taught music, guitar and music history at the university level and has conducted countless workshops and seminars. His published instructional works include four books and three DVDs for Centerstream/Hal Leonard (the latest being "The Blues Styles of Kenny Sultan,") a book/DVD for Warner Brothers, and a new teaching app. In 2007 Kenny received what is perhaps the ultimate accolade for an acoustic guitarist: Martin Guitars Inc. honored him with his own signature model guitar: the 000-18KS model. Martin's Dick Boak states it was, "To pay tribute to acoustic blues artist Kenny Sultan. Kenny is an extremely loyal Martin owner, player and advocate with a large following in the blues community. He owns, performs and records with an amazing array of Martin guitars. Clearly his favorite size and style is a 000-18 sunburst, upon which this custom edition is inspired and based." Sales were so good on the 00018-KS that Kenny was then asked to do another signature model -- this time based upon the slightly smaller 00-18 model. It, too, quickly sold out. In addition to recording with Tom, Kenny has also appeared as a sideman on numerous recordings by other artists, and has two widely acclaimed solo guitar CDs with Solid Air Records. The first was entitled, "West Coast Blues". At the suggestion of Executive Producer James Jensen to "Keep it funky and play from the heart," Kenny comments, "This music is played as if I was sitting on my couch around midnight playing for myself." Acoustic Guitar Magazine raved, "Fluid grooves and a slew of very tasty licks." It was so well received, Kenny followed up with "Guitar Blues" (also on Solid Air.) Currently (as of October 2016) resides in Santa Barbara, California.

Link | 0 | 1 | Stanisław Skrowaczewski | Stanisław Skrowaczewski | Poland | Stanislaw Skrowaczewski | Stanisław Skrowaczewski Polish composer and conductor, born October 3, 1923 in Lwów, Poland (now Lviv, Ukraine). Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, music director of the Minnesota Orchestra from 1960 to 1979 and now its conductor emeritus, has maintained his current reputation - that of a conductor of brilliance, power, and distinctive personality - from the earliest years of his career. He was already a well-known conductor and composer in his native Poland and throughout Europe before he made his U.S. debut in 1958, conducting the Cleveland Orchestra at the invitation of George Szell. Now in great international demand, he regularly leads major ensembles in Vienna, Berlin, Paris, London, Rome, Munich, and other European cities, and makes frequent appearances with the most prestigious American orchestras, including those of Boston, Cleveland, and Philadelphia. In 1968 Skrowaczewski made his Salzburg Festival debut with the Vienna Philharmonic; that same year, at the request of the late United Nations Secretary-General U Thant, he led the Minnesota Orchestra in a special concert in the United Nations Assembly Hall, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Human Rights Day. His Metropolitan Opera debut followed two years later, when he conducted performances of Mozart's The Magic Flute both at Lincoln Center and on a national tour. Among his acclaimed compositions is the Concerto for Clarinet and Orchestra, premiered by the Minnesota Orchestra under Skrowaczewski's own baton in April 1981.

Link | 0 | 1 | Rahni Harris | Rahni Harris | Rahni Harris | Rahni P. Harris, Jr. Rahni was greatly affected by the musical influence of his parents. Artists such as Herbie Hancock, Bernard Purdie, Cornell Dupree, Chuck Rainey, Gene Page, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder and Roberta Flack would influence and shape his musicality. He began to focus his interest in the field of production and engineering. Producers who he had in high reagard were Quincy Jones, Thom Bell, Norman Whitfield, Frank Wilson and Maurice White. His engineering favorite was George Massenburg. Some years later while working at a local hospital, Rahni saw recording artist Melba Moore on television being interviewed, which inspired him for reaching his goals of creating and producing artists. At the age of 19, Rahni formed and co-founded a record company with long time friend and business associate Jim Ragland. They called it [l=Emprise]. Their first release was a group called Family Love with a gospel album entitled “A Different Drummer”. Around the late 80's, Rahni continued to produce gospel-projects such as “Amazing” on Light Records and “Serious” on A&M Records by Contemporary Gospel Group [a=Kingdom (4)]. During one of his promotional appearances at a music store, promoting the “A Different Drummer” album, Rahni met Warner Brothers recording artist Boosty Collins who walked in. 7 years later their paths would cross again and resulted in a list of collaborations. Along with George Clinton they penned the single “Work That Sucker To Death” by [a=Xavier (2)], then on to the single “Krackity Krack” by [a=Dayton]. Rahni then became a regular fixture in the Bootsy Collins and George Clinton recording-sessions, playing keys and assisting on singles like "Shine-O-Mite" (Bootsy) and "Atomic Dog" (George Clinton). Prior to this, Rahni’s arranging and productional achievements resulted in more benefits. Shortly after his timely meeting with Bootsy, Rahni was introduced to the legendary Ben E. King (Stand By Me) by his buddy Willie Jenkins, in order to do string arrangements on a record which Mr. King was producing for his son Benny Jr. The real surprise for Rahni was that Frank Sinatra’s string section was performing on the track. That was the beginning for him of producing and writing for a number of more recording artists. Rahni continues to fill his role as producer, composer, arranger, songwriter, recording engineer, musician, and educator.

Link | 0 | 1 | Trifon Trifonov | Trifon Trifonov | Trifon Trifonov | Трифон Трифонов Trifon Trifonov was born in Katounitza, Bulgaria, near Plovdiv. His grandfather played the violin, his father the clarinet and the mother was an enthusiastic singer. Trifon's brother brought him a cheap saxophone one day and gave him lessons. During the night he started to exercise in the toilet of an old farmhouse while still working in a factory during the day. Trifon decided to leave his job and joined a circus company with his saxophone for five years, touring in many Eastern-European countries. He secretely listened regularly to the American programme "The voice of America", where he heard for the first time in his life American saxophone heroes like Charlie Parker, Lester Young or John Coltrane. Musicians who were completely unknown around that time in Bulgaria. Trifon studied all this music from listening and by heart, although he had never heard before about jazz and its history. After returning to Bulgaria, he settled as a peanut and peppermint farmer, but started a musical career at the same time. From his two following years at the pop-conservatory in Sofia he preserved some of his teacher's jazz notebooks with exercises that he studied. A few years later Trifon became one of the most popular wedding saxophone players in Trakia through learning the Bulgarian folk music from flute, bagpipe and gadulka players. His work also included recordings for Bulgaria's only record company Balkanton. Although Trifon Trifonov tried to interwave jazz elements in the folk music, he did not succeed with this mixture of styles in Bulgaria. One day a flute player came to his village and told him about a Norwegian band, that was seeking a saxophone player who knew both, Bulgarian and Western European music. Trifon auditioned for an hour for Stian Carstensen on the telephone, playing everything from Turkish gypsy music to Paganini and Charlie Parker. Two weeks later he was touring in Norway with Carstensen's band Farmers Market of which he is still a member until today.

Link | 0 | 1 | MC Mouth of Madness | MC Mouth of Madness | Netherlands | Sietse van Daalen | MC Mouth Of Madness | Sietse van Daalen MC of DJ UZI (LWD). The first time Sietse van Daalen opened his eyes was on the 19th of August 1974 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. His name back than still was Sietse but that changed when he watched a movie wich according to him contained fat samples, you can guess how this movie was called, yes; "The Mouth Of Madness"! He found that name to be very suitable because "for an MC you need to have a mouth and be a bit insain too", he quoted. He started as a MC for the first Hip-Hop group from Leeuwarden called "2 Damn Dope". Eventually the group splitted and the members parted. This was at the beginning of the 90's when the popularity of house music grew. Sietse got familiar with Hardcore-House and after a few years of partying in 1995 he appeared for the first time at the "Seven Gates To Hell" parties in Deinum as MC for DJ Syndrome. Sietse and Peter (DJ UZI) were friends since they were kids and after a while playing Hip-Hop Peter also decided to go and play house to. After a while they joined and this gave birth to "UZI & MC DA Mouth Of Madness". Backed up by the "The Hitsquad", containing dancers and producers they rocked every party in the region! Their first real appearance together was in the end of 1995 in Gorredeijk at a "Thunderdome on Tour" party from ID&T. This is were they met Sander Groet, the organizer who asked them to come and play at La Xala in Rotterdam wich they did. From then on the ball was roling and soon they were booked for more parties al acros holland. The first bigger appearance was at "The Fun" in Zaandam. Altough this was a big club Sietse thought it to be big when he first MC'd on this party. Their first really big party was in their hometown at Thunderdome '96. After this their popularity got bigger and bigger and played on many big events from then. In 1997 Sietse was asked to present a weekly hardcore program "Hakkeeh" on dutch television for the music station TMF. In the beginning of 1998 he stopped with Hakkeeh and started his own hardcore-cafe in is hometown, named "Cafe Oldschool". After two years he stopped and closed the cafe, in a time when the hardcore hype came to it's end. After a few years of (hardcore)silence he was asked by MC Ruffian to get back in the scene and nowadays he appears on many big raves all across Europe. |

Link | 0 | 1 | Tom Piper | Tom Piper | Australia | Tom Piper | With roots in Sydney’s house music scene going back several years, Tom Piper has evolved to cement himself firmly at the forefront of a new era in club music around the world. This era, defined by a mashup of many styles from the outskirts of dance to the grey area of urban music, is steadily breaking down genre barriers and creating dance floors that are a unity of music styles. Tom Piper is leading the pack in Australia with uncanny control of the cross fader and an endless pile of drink cards! With accolades including 4 original ARIA chart hits, over 8 ARIA chart remixes including a 1 just recently, placement in the Sony ITM50 DJ Poll, remixing artists like Empire Of The Sun as well as multiple releases through labels: Hussle, Ministry Of Sound, NEWS, bambamMuzik, 777, Electrodomesticos, Sony, One Love, Senso Disc and more, trying to fit Piper’s achievements onto a single page is like trying to squeeze a fat girl onto the back of your cycle! Beginning like many other youngsters during the 90’s as a devoted raver, Tom quickly progressed from fan to DJ, sharing the DJ podium with legendary rave DJs at parties like Utopia and Godspeed. His career as a Rave DJ and producer also saw Tom collaborate extensively on CD and vinyl releases with his production mentor Alex K as well as supporting him on a European tour. Since progressing away from the rave scene Tom has crafted a unique style both as a house music DJ, producer and gourmet food critic. Now in 2008 Tom Piper is one of the hardest working DJs in Australia with weekly interstate touring and residencies at Sydney’s most kickin’ nights. Piper doesn’t like genre’s, but some call it house, some tech, some rave, some fidget, some bassline, some baltimore, some garage, some electro, some disco.. they are all right in some way, it’s wrapped and folded with an streetwise edge and labeled The Freshness!.. that’s the package served up to music savvy clubbers every week around Australia and has seen Tom visit south east Asia numerous times this last year. The grind doesn’t stop at DJing for this young hustler. Tom Piper established and runs independent label bambamMuzik with Pablo. It’s home to his and Tom’s new group, The Jump Off (releases Point’n’Clap & Rackhunters), and of course Tom’s first outlet for his personal releasesbefore signing things worldwide. It is Tom’s diversity as a producer that has allowed him to collaborate with key players from across the electronic spectrum including: hip-hop DJs Eko and G-Wizard to form production outfit battleSTAR; Tommy Trash (releases Fuck To The Bass & One More); and more recently with Nick Correlli from MYNC Project (release Indisco), Destroy Disco (release My Sound) & Jono Fernandez (release Rockstar). Also a master of the remix.. recent work see’s Tom refresh tracks by Grafton Primary, Sidney Samson, Empire Of The Sun, Mobin Master, Ursula 1000 and countless others over the past years. Whether he’s handling business as a label manager, planning to overthrow a third world dictator, rocking a club or working his magic in the studio, Tom Piper is undoubtedly one of the most diverse and energetic DJs making his mark on the Australian music landscape today.

Link | 0 | 1 | Wizard Sleeve | Wizard Sleeve | Wizard Sleeve | Wizard Sleeve are rappers Lex One & Mike Beatz who originally met in Miami and now live between the UK, Florida & New York. For the past year, they have been travelling the world, championing their blend of hip hop, dance and electro along with their love of eclectic sampling and often playfully outrageous lyrics. Wizard Sleeve officially broke onto the UK scene in 2009 after teaming up with breaks super group Aquasky and releasing in August 2009, the huge underground anthem “Me Plus You” produced by Aquasky aka Black Noise It wasn’t long before the track caught the ear of Dutch DJ and producer, Sidney Samson who heard a bootleg of his club smash “Riverside” using the hooky verse and catchy melody of the Wizard Sleeve rap. Lex & Mike then agreed to re-record for the official release of a new version called, “Riverside – Let’s Go” which featured the guys in full. Released via Ministry Of Sound at the beginning of 2010, the record stormed national and regional radio and was A listed on Radio 1, 7 weeks upfront of release whilst also becoming a huge You Tube hit : it has since reached just over 2 million views of the official video featuring Wizard Sleeve. It also remained in the UK Official charts for over 11 weeks and reached no 2 at it’s highest and has sold in excess of 350,000 records. During the success of the record and for the past 6 months, the guys have been touring the UK extensively, having clocked up over 74 shows and overwhelming crowds and promoters alike with their energy fuelled live performances. It’s no surprise however, that their live shows are a rollercoaster of energy and entertainment as previously under their solo guises of Lex One & Mike Beatz, they’ve rocked stages with the likes of Wu Tang, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Nas, KRS One, Kool Keith and Method Man. Whilst touring the UK, they’ve also been busy writing for their 1st artist album aswell as working on collabs with other artists and the past few months has seen them hook up in the studio with the likes of Mason, Nick Thayer & N’Fa, Cutfather, Ant Miles (Ram Records guru), Calvertron, Black Noise, Jodie Connor & Dawood to work on new material. They are also now due to release their next solo record “Get Down Tonight” on Southern Fried Records, which samples the no 13 US 1990’s hit, Skee- lo’s “I Wish” and re-ignites the successful partnership of Black Noise and Wizard Sleeve. The record is a true summer anthem and the promotional campaign will be hitting in August and sees the tune rolled out in full to all holiday destinations and UK clubs, with a strong remix package. Also having just recently signed to major live bookings agency, Primary Talent International which represents the likes of Daft Punk, Mark Ronson, Dizzee Rascal, Roots Manuva, Basement Jaxx & Chiddy Bang, the boys are looking forward to getting back on the road again in the UK and Europe in "2011".

Link | 0 | 1 | Jullian Gomes | Jullian Gomes | Jullian Gomes | Jullian Gomes Jullian Gomes was born and brought up in the Republic of South Africa listening to Soul, Latin and Kwaito, before discovering House Music at the tender age of eight. Since his first gig in 2003, his career has travelled only upward, and his love for production and skill-set grew steadily with it. Alongside cousin Michael G, he began the G.Family collective and has released on top South African Independent labels including: Soulcandi and House Afrika, which was followed shortly by records on influential International labels such as Realtone Records, Foliage Records, Atjazz Record Company and Seasons Limited. In 2010 he stepped off the shores of his home continent to participate at the Red Bull Music Academy, which took place in London. He has since then been invited to play at several local festivals including Oppikoppi, Rocking the Daisies, Cape Town Electronic Music Festival and in 2011 he was invited to play a dream slot at Sonar Festival 2011 in Barcelona, one of the most highly regarded music festivals in the world. At 23 years of age in 2012, Jullian picked up his first MTN South African Music Award Nominee, when G.Family’s Album ”Break the Silence – Deep House Chronicles 6″ was nominated in the category ”Best Dance Album”. Deciding to take a break from the G.Family collective in early 2012, Jullian Gomes released his solo debut single ”Love Song 28” (Ft. Bobby) as well as his second single in collaboration with Atjazz titled ”Overshadowed”. 2012/2013 also saw Jullian Gomes remixing for artists like Black Coffee, The Layabouts and British Soul legend Omar as well as working on remixes for Defected Records, Ralf Gum & Atjazz. Early 2013 saw Jullian pick up an award for the video of ”Love Song 28” (Feat. Bobby) at the Metro Fm Awards. Rolling with UK veteran and influential industry stalwart Atjazz and his Record Company in 2013, Jullian Gomes and Atjazz collaborated on their album ”The Gift The Curse” which was seen as one of the most interesting hook-ups in modern house music. The album also featured artists such as Osunlade, Robert Owens, Wunmi, Zano, Clive Astin and John Agesilas. His inclusion into such prestigious and notable occasions is a testament to the hard work and many years of plying his trade as an avid music fan, producer and DJ. Jullian Gomes is on an eternal quest to widen his musical horizons with shuffled claps and electronic soul.

Link | 0 | 1 | Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal | Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal | Canada | Studio De Musique Ancienne De Montréal | Praised for its “rich-textured, vibrant sound” and “hypnotic beauty”, the Studio de musique ancienne de Montréal has established a reputation as Montréal’s finest early music vocal ensemble. Composed of 10 to 13 singers chosen for the remarkable clarity and purity of their voices, the choir is often accompanied with period instrument to perform Renaissance and Baroque choral masterpieces. Founded in 1974 by the organist and harpsichordist Christopher Jackson, and today conducted by the Artistic Director Andrew McAnerney, the Studio has brought more than 800 Renaissance and Baroque masterpieces before the public, and continues to reveal and share the vitality, sensuality, and emotional depth of early music. The ensemble’s concert series is a highlight of Montréal’s cultural and ranks as an integral part of the city’s lively baroque scene. Flowering from Montreal’s fertile early music scene in the early 1970s, the Studio was a pioneer ensemble in the North American period music movement. The Studio has toured Mexico, France, Spain and Luxembourg and has often appeared at the Festival International de Sarrebourg. Through frequent concert collaborations with many wellknown early music instrumental ensembles—including Skip Sempé’s Capriccio Stravagante Renaissance Orchestra — the Studio has partnered with many renowned artists, such as Jordi Savall, Ton Koopman, Dame Emma Kirkby, Guillemette Laurens, Suzie LeBlanc and Daniel Taylor. The Studio has made 17 widely acclaimed recordings, several of which are on the ATMA label, including Arvo Pärt/Stabat Mater, which earned the Toronto Star’s CD Pick of the Week, and Rise, O my soul, which Classics Today singled out for the “ardent, deeply-felt expression of the singers”. The Studio’s CBC recording, Heavenly Spheres, won a Félix (ADISQ) Award, and its Palestrina recording won the Prix Choc du Monde de la Musique. The Conseil québécois de la musique awarded an Opus Prize to the Studio’s Lagrime di San Pietro recording, and in January 2015, Terra Tremuit has been been nominated Album of the Year at the Juno Awards. On the eve of its 40th anniversary season, the Studio de musique ancienne was invited to perform a sold out concert at Carnegie Hall.

Died Mar. 20, 2011 in Kennedale, Texas, U.S.A Along with Speedy West, Buddy Emmons, and Pete Drake, Ralph Mooney is one of the true steel guitar innovators in country music. He was born in Duncan, OK, and first became interested in the instrument after hearing another steel pioneer, Leon McAuliffe. As a teenager in the '40s, Mooney moved to California, where he gradually developed his style by exhaustive playing with numerous bands, in both live and studio situations. In the '50s and '60s, Mooney was hired as a staff musician for Capitol Records, where he played on the early recordings of Buck Owens and is heard prominently on several Merle Haggard hits, including "Swinging Doors," "The Bottle Let Me Down," and "(All My Friends Are Gonna Be) Strangers." Throughout the years, Mooney left his mark on recordings by Wynn Stewart (that's his steel on "It's Such a Pretty World Today"), Warren Smith, Rose Maddox, Skeets McDonald, Bobby Austin, Bonnie Owens, Wanda Jackson, Donna Fargo, and Jessi Colter. His longest running stint was with Waylon Jennings, whom Mooney joined in 1970 and stayed with until he retired in the early '90s. While Mooney is known mainly for his steel playing, he also dabbled in songwriting. His biggest hit was "Crazy Arms," which he co-wrote with Chuck Seals in the mid-'50s. Even though Mooney spent most of his life playing on the recordings of others, he did release an instrumental album on Capitol Records in 1968 called Corn Pickin' and Slick Slidin' with guitarist James Burton.

(October 11, 1892 – April 29, 1981) Burgin was born in Siedlce, Poland, and first performed in public at age 11, as a soloist with the Warsaw Philharmonic Society. In 1906 he studied with Joseph Joachim in Berlin, and from 1908 to 1912, he studied with Leopold Auer at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Then he worked in Helsinki, Stockholm and Oslo. Burgin was appointed concertmaster of the BSO in 1920, when Pierre Monteux was the orchestra's conductor. He was appointed assistant conductor in 1927. He conducted the BSO in 308 concerts in the United States, Australia and Japan, and was associate conductor for seven world premieres and 25 Boston premieres. Earlier, he had been concertmaster Leningrad Symphony, Helsinki Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic and the Stockholm Concert Society. He played under conductors Max Fiedler, Arthur Nikisch, and the composers Richard Strauss, and Jean Sibelius. Burgin retired from the BSO following the 1961-62 season. In 1957, Burgin told TIME Magazine, "I know many virtuosos and I do not envy them. They tell me what it's like to play the same few pieces over and over and know they have to go here and then be there. Not for me. I like the orchestra." As a violin soloist, he played the U.S. premiere of Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 1, on 24 April 1925, with the BSO under Serge Koussevitzky. Within a year of coming to Boston, Burgin organized the Burgin String Quartet. He also headed the string department of New England Conservatory and in 1953 was its orchestra conductor. He taught violin and conducting at New England Conservatory. Starting in 1959, Burgin also taught at Boston University, where he directed the Boston University Chamber Orchestra and lectured, and at the Berkshire Music Center, where he taught conducting. After moving to Florida following his retirement, Burgin taught at Florida State University. During this time, he also formed the Florestan Quartet with his wife, violinist [a5391399], as a member. He retired from Florida State University in the mid-1970s. Burgin was a chevalier officer of the French Légion d'honneur and was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Burgin married [a5391399] on July 3, 1940. Their son, Richard W. Burgin is a short story writer and editor. Their daughter, Diana Lewis Burgin, is an author, and Professor of Russian at the University of Massachusetts; she had published a narrative poem "Richard Burgin: A Life in Verse" (Slavica Pub, 1989; ISBN 0893571962) describing her father's biography.
