Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 10/01/2024

Found 593861 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 19 Lito Escarso Argentinian pianist, orchestra director from Santa Fe (died in 2008).

Manuel Robim is a Multimedia artist, that while working as a Graphic and Sound Designer, produces music under several aliases. Old Manual's debut album HD was released on January 1st 2013, by his own label [l=AVNL Records] (co-managed with Portuguese musicians Diogo Correia ([a=Marie Dior]) and Tiago Rodrigues ([a=RAP/RAP/RAP]). His approach towards electronic music is somehow experimental, in a more direct way. Rather than exploring textures and sounds directly, Old Manual tends to incarnate the styles themselves, experimenting them, and making his own audio exploitations from within the style he's experimenting. One cannot define easily what style of electronic music he ends up achieving as a whole, as he actively rejects fitting into any in particular. Ultimately, It will be easier for the audience to embrace each and every aspect of Old Manual's range of styles, in order to enjoy them fully.

In 1901 he was appointed bandmaster of the 2nd Battalion Devonshire Regiment; in 1914 he became bandmaster of the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst and in 1918, he transferred to the Royal Air Force. He then served at Blandford, Hastings and Shorncliffe before travelling to France to take charge of No. 1 A.S.D (No.1 (Northern) Aircraft Supply Depot) Orchestra and concert party. He toured with them through France, Belgium and Germany, before returning to the School of Music. He was granted a permanent commission (from Stores Branch) as a Director Of Music and Flying Officer, retaining his seniority on 20th Nov 1920. In 1922 Amers secured the first of many recording contracts for the Central band. It was for the Columbia Gramophone Company and on 24th May the musicians were spread around the recording studio all facing a single central microphone. With no possibility of editing, the slightest mistake or technical hitch meant a fresh start, but the severe time limits of the early records enabled the session to finish within the day.

Search Add 18 Stefan Islandi Stefán Guðmundsson Singer from Iceland, born 6 October 1907, died 1 January 1994. Opera singer. Born in Northern Iceland as Stefán Guðmundsson, he is considered the country's greatest tenor singer of the 20th century. He was the oldest of three children of a poor farm worker and his wife. When the boy was nine years old his father died in an accident, and he was brought up on a nearby farm. It was soon discovered that he was endowed with an exceptional singing voice, and when he came to Reykjavík at the age of nineteen he began taking singing lessons. A wealthy trawler owner volunteered to pay for his musical education in Italy where he studied in Milan from 1930 to 1933. In 1933 he made his debut as Cavaradossi in "Tosca" impressing the audience with his warm voice and his artistic temperament. The Italian press gave him the name Stefano Islandi. The following years up to WWII he toured his home country and many European countries. In 1940 he was engaged at the Royal Opera House in Copenhagen, Denmark, and became a Royal Court Singer in 1949. In the years after the war he also performed in the United States and Canada and appeared in the first operatic production of the National Theatre in Reykjavík in 1951 as the Duke in "Rigoletto". In 1966 he settled down in Iceland after having lived abroad for more than 35 years. Bio by: Erik Skytte

After watching some Hatsune Miku concert videos I was fascinated. Although it seems far-fetched, this technology reminded me of my favorite movie "Metropolis" by Fritz Lang from 1927 where the shape of a woman is transferred to a machine-man ("Maria's Transformation"). I was more than inspired and in 2016 I started to produce Vocaloid songs with the goal to transfer this new possibilities to other genres of music than the mainstream.

Search Add 18 DJ Cliffy DJ Cliffy currently lives in Lisbon and is married to the former Brazilian model & interior designer Erika de Carvalho. According to Time Out magazine, he is responsible for two of London´s most successful clubnights Batmacumba & Future World Funk. He is one half of the production duo Sugarloaf Gangsters, a regular contributor to Straight No Chaser magazine and has a Masters degree in Philosophy. Batmacumba was a monthly event at the ICA (Institute of contemporary Arts, London) produced and hosted by DJ Cliffy. The night ran for 12 years showcasing Brazilian music, short films and other art forms. It resulted in residencies around the world and invites to work with major venues like the Barbican and South Bank Centre London. Future World Funk started life as a club-night hosted by DJ Cliffy & Russ Jones at the Notting Hill Arts Club which quickly morphed into compilation album series, helping to launch Ocho Records selling over 50,000 copies. Future World Funk was an attempt to deconstruct the Eurocentric notion of ´world music´ presenting a decidedly more democratic concept of global beats. The compilation series led to worldwide deejay performances at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Womad, SFinks amongst others.

Nevertheless, this did not prevent him from touring Europe as a member of the Düsseldorf punk rock band PUBLIC TOYS for almost ten years from 1991 onwards and releasing various records. However, after the band's break-up in spring 2000, he never touched his instrument again. Instead, Thiel devoted himself to the backstage organisational skills he had acquired with the Public Toys and began a six-month internship at a music label in mid-1999. The six months eventually turned into 13 years at [l34268] / [l2345], during which Thiel worked in varying positions as promotion manager, field marketing manager and new media director with bands such as Slipknot, Nickelback, Slash, Machine Head, Type O Negative, The 69 Eyes, Moloko, Lenny Kravitz, Kiss, Killswitch Engage, Dresden Dolls & Amanda Palmer, etc. This was followed by engagements as Product Manager at ROTC Musikverlag, as Digital Marketing Director at the promotion & marketing agency Black Mob and as Label Manager at Century Media Records. In between, Roman Thiel founded the label DRUMMING MONKEY RECORDS in 2007 together with Mary Ritchie and Toten Hosen drummer Vom Ritchie, who had often shared the stage and the common rehearsal room on Ronsdorfer Straße in earlier years. The friendship still exists today, Drumming Monkey no longer since October 2020. With his label HINTERHOF PRODUKTIONEN, newly founded in 2020, Roman Thiel will manage the "legacy of the monkey stable" and offer new artists a creative home. As well as continuing to expand his collaboration with bands such as THE BACKYARD BAND and CASINO BLACKOUT, for whom Thiel also acts as management.

Search Add 18 Al Swainger Born in 1972, Al began playing the cornet and piano at the age of 6; he also tried the trumpet & tenor horn before finally settling on the french horn at 11. His teen years were spent in a wide variety of ensembles and stylistic settings – classical, jazz, pop and rock – often 4 or 5 days a week throughout his schooling. Mainly performing on french horn at this time but also on piano and self taught electric guitar and bass. He also developed an enthusiasm for computer music, composing & arranging extensively using sequencing software and home recording equipment. Al earned his degree in music from Colchester institute in 1993 and a teaching certificate the following year from Bretton Hall. Whilst studying for his degree he held the piano chair in the university big band as well as continuing to play orchestral french horn. After completing formal studies Al became a part time instrumental teacher for Devon Youth Music. At the same time he started to build a reputation as an electric bass player, musical director & arranger amongst the local soul & big bands, spent several years with world music improv band Rifiki and a short spell with heavy rock band Aesculus Hipp. With the collapse of the teaching arm of the music service in 2004 Al took the opportunity to become a full time self-employed musician and to expand his skills into playing double bass as well. Since then Al has run a jazz jam session at the Globe in Exeter for 3 years, an improvisation / composition workshop called The Other Compass, the E.S.P. jam session in Bristol and the successful Blue Vanguard Jazz Club with Coach York & Craig Milverton since 2011. His own bands (Monkey’s Uncle, Time Wasters, Power of Time Monkeys, Mother Popcorn, the Art Trip and most recently The Al Swainger Q'tet) have always met with critical approval and delighted audiences. Al's reputation as a sideman is formidable and is well known as someone able to slip easily into any context and sound like he's been doing it all his life at a moment's notice. He has been awarded 5th place in the British Jazz Awards three times from 2012-14. See below for a full rundown of collaborations through the years. He continues to break new ground as a freelance artist and has released albums with the Art Trip (Music of Art Pepper), art rockers Grice (Alexandrine), omni-fusion trio Snow Giants (UN), his own solo project Pointless Beauty (A Lonely Vigil / After & Before / Shall Brothers Be) and Biophosmos : The Music of Chick Corea.

Following the death of his father and the migration of his mother to Canada, Everett had to take care of himself. His first ventures in to music was as the owner and part time operator of the Sound System Emperor Lion in 1969. He was also working at a pressing plant in Kingston before he migrated to Toronto, Canada in 1976. Working at a pressing plant would later influence him in to launching King Culture Records. In 1979 King Culture launched King Culture Records and Videos a retail record/video outlet on Eglington Avenue. The store proved such a success that in 1981 he open yet another outlet to handle the growing demand. Due to slow economy and the economic recession of the time he had to scale back to solely one store again. The store would also house his studio. As a producer King Culture has released records by Jamaican artistes such as Rod Taylor, Barry Brown and Pad Anthony but focus has been on Canadian artists such as Howie Smart, Stamma Rank and The Uplifters. Often King Culture would group a Jamaican artist with a Canadian artist on the 7" singles released on his label. In 1982 Culture received an award for the dub album »King Culture In A Cultural Mood« by the 3rd Canadian Black Music Awards 1981. The same year he also received awards for Reggae Producer of the Year and being Top Reggae Distributor. He has since then won many awards for his productions, distribution of music/videos and merit awards for his support of Canadian Reggae.
