Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 24/10/2024

Found 596840 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 5 Larry Briers Laurie T. Briers Early jazz and dance band pianist born in Newport News, Virginia on December 25 of 1891. It's likely that Briers received his first piano lessons as a kid, and later studied at some conservatory. Briers married his sweetheart Evelyn Russell Groeble on September 6 of 1913 before the 2 newlyweds moved to New York, where Larry Briers obtained employment at the Rector Cafe from the 4th Street, place where he decided to use the artistic name of Larry Briers. It was there when he met clarinet player, violinist & future alto saxophonist Joseph Samuels, who hired him for his orchestra that also played in the Rector Café. Briers did his very first recordings with Samuels's Orchestra for the US branch of Pathé (which later became Pathé Actuelle) on January of 1919, and also recorded with Samuels for Okeh, Emerson, Lyric, the Plaza group (renamed ARC), Gennett, the NYRL group (including Paramount, Puritan, etc.), Arto, Bell, Grey Gull, Edison & Federal among other labels. In addition to recording with the above mentioned Joseph Samuels's Orchestra (& his subset Synco Jazz Band (aka the Tampa Blue Jazz Band, Porter's Blue Devils (Gennett sessions from August 31 of 1923, October 11 of 1923 & November 12 of 1923) & Joseph Samuels's Jazz Band), Briers also managed to record with the Rega Orchestra for Okeh, [a1568094]'s Orchestra (both under Glantz's own name & several pseudonyms such as [a2976919], for example) for several labels, the Blue Ribbon Trio for Okeh, Harry Reser's orchestra & trio (1922 to March of 1923), the Green Brothers Novelty Band (for Edison, Gennett & Okeh among other labels), etc. Briers also accompanied the Harmonizers, Mamie Smith, Clarence Williams & many more vocalists & vocal groups, in addition to appearing on several of Joseph Samuels's violin recordings, some of Harry Reser's earliest banjo solos with piano accompaniment, etc. And if that's not enough, he composed several tunes such as "Just Suppose", "Dew Drop", "Satisfied", "Oh, Joe (Please Don't Go)", "Parson Jenks", "Page Paderewski" (co-written with his boss Joseph Samuels & legendary pianist Pete Wendling), "Fine Feathers" & of course, "Brother Low-Down", which can be considered Briers's greatest hit if we have in mind that it was recorded among others by Bert Williams for Columbia, Al Bernard for Victor, Edison & Brunswick, and of course, Joseph Samuels's (Synco) Jazz Band as the Tampa Blue Jazz Band for Okeh that also included Briers himself at the piano. By 1940, Briers was now living in Franklin, Ohio with his wife Evelyn Russell Groeble & their son James L. Briers (born on 1924). Briers is presumably dead in the period from 1960 or 1970 onwards.

Search Add 5 Jay Bishop Johnathan Howard Davis Jay Bishop is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer from Detroit, MI. Currently living in Tokyo, he is making music with a funk forward sound that is both retro and futuristic. He has released 8 albums under various names and can move effortlessly from genre to genre. His base base however is rooted in funk. Heavily influenced by the work of Jam & Lewis, Kashif, L.A. & Babyface, & Teddy Riley as well as Modern Funk luminaries such as Dam Funk. XL Middleton, and The Apx, Jay focuses on tight grooves with heavy synth bass and drums on the bottom and sweet sounding chords on top. After working in Hip-Hop, Lo-Fi, Soul, & Electronic music, Jay is prepping his first full length release in Modern Funk. It promises to be an authentic representation of the genre while trying to push the movement forward. His song “That Feeling” is a perfect example of his reverence for the sound of Boogie. Completely written, performed, and produced by Jay, it shows his talents at crafting songs that are catchy and authentically funky. With Jay Bishop on board, the future of the funk is bright.

He got his DJing start at Keith's Cruise Room in Hallandale, Florida, just as the technique of beat-matching was starting to take off, later moving on to the Copa and the Marlin Beach Hotel. Search Add 5 Spider Junkies Spider Junkies were a NYC-based glam band that played throughout the NY/NJ area from the late 1980s through to the mid-1990s. They had many members through their time together, including several different singers, but were always recognized for their strong songwriting and memorable choruses. Hollywood-based manager Gerry Gittelson once said of the band, "This band was the Big Bang Babies of NY City. (They) never made it big, but should have sold millions of records" The band recorded four demo tapes over the years, however none of them were ever professionally duplicated. All of their demos were hand made by the band. Because of this, it's hard to find two copies of their demos that are exactly alike, as the band frequently would use different pictures, logos, colors of paper (for the photo copied covers), and brands of cassette tapes on their demos. The songs speak for themselves though.

Search Add 5 Sisters Sex Haus Sisters Sex Haus was formed after the split in 1983 of Dance Of Death. Danny Garmijn left the band and his brother Franky Garmijn replaced his brother. Stefan Timmermans and Franky Garmijn changed the name to Sisters Sex Haus a reference to Sisters Of Mercy, Alien Sex Fiend and Bauhaus. Evena s their sound had nothing to do with those bands. Both changed their name quickly into Nick Bat (Stefan) and Eve Mortley (Franky) because they used to be resident DJ's at The Tube and B52. Soon as they were planning to record Multiplication 6 Drive Glenn Rotsaert joined on guitar. Yves Beaumont did some writing. But after one year they both left the band. School became an issue to make new songs and in 1987 Sisters Sex Haus was over.

Nick’s latest release, Refuge is a collection of meditative, neo-classical instrumentals featuring the soothing sounds of string ensembles, choirs, and more, all built around his spontaneous piano solos.

Search Add 5 Oxygyn We are Oxygyn, an indie-pop band based in Malta with a passion for making music that matters. Oxygyn is composed of sibling duo Kurt Abela and Katia Abela, with lyrics written by Kurt Abela, music composed by J A N J U produced by Funky Monkey and Zack on guitar. Our aim is to make music that inspires others, the same music has always inspired us, by exploring important human and social issues through song. Oxygyn was established in December 2015, with the release of our debut original single CORRODE. The song reached No.2 on Malta’s Top 10 Chart (89.7 BAY), and the music video has garnered over 14,000 views on YouTube. We followed this up with WOLVES WITHOUT TEETH, a cover version of the song originally released by Of Monsters & Men, in September 2016. In 2017, we started transitioning from acoustic and piano-based music into a more modern and polished sound that like to describe as indie-pop. We got to perform at several local music festivals for the first time, including the Farsons Beer Festival, Rock the South and the Beland Music Festival, and we also opened for Joe Roscoe during a gig in July. This evolution culminated in the release of our original single BUBBLEWRAP in November 2017, which debuted with radio play on XFM 100.2’s Big Drive Home with Trudy Kerr, and was accompanied by an elaborate music video produced by 141 Records. BUBBLEWRAP reached No.1 on Malta’s Top 10 Chart (89.7 BAY) in January 2018, and the music video reached over 11,000 people on social media in a matter of weeks. In 2020, we hope to release more original material and to continue performing it lives for diverse audiences. Follow us on our social media platforms to stay tuned for more info about upcoming music, gigs and more.

Search Add 5 Brother El Lional Freeman As a musician, artist and producer bound by a necessity and love for the art, Brother El blends music from true creative aspects with an esoteric intensity. His compositions can only be described as an eclectic mix of electronica, hip hop and ambient styles layered upon an urban landscape. Along with founding the "The Hip Hop Project" at Loyola University Chicago's radio station WLUW 88.7 FM, Brother El has cultivated musical collaborations with various artists including Chicago rap group Earatik Statik. In addition, Brother El shared his journey through chaos with the release of the solo album “Through the Cracks of Concrete”. His award winning album threads the inspirations and voices of African diaspora, past and present while showcasing his individual technique capturing the sighs of Chicago's elevated trains and pavement pounds despite the cracks. A native of Chicago, Brother El is CEO of The Beat Bank, an independent record label and production studio focusing on artist development and quality productions over quantity and trend.

Search Add 5 Comer Mullins Traditional-style guitar-banjo player based in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Comer "Moon" Mullins (he was given that nickname while serving in the Air Force) was born on May 11, 1916 in Sassafrass, Kentucky. His father worked in the coal mines, and the family was large (12 children). Mullins bought his first guitar around the of 12, after being inspired by a movie featuring "The Singing Cowboy," Gene Autry. He developed a unique thumbpicking stye where the thumb played the bass line, the index finger picked the lead line, the middle finger added a tenor line, and the ring finger added alto. This technique allowed for fuller "ragtime"-type harmonies, and he made an instructional tape that was available through Mel Bay Publications. He was a member of the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame, and performed frequently at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. Mr. Mullins died from leukemia on March 16, 2016.

Search Add 5 Valentina Vuksic Valentina Vuksic is a computer artist and programmer based in Zürich. Her work is a personal exploration of the possibilities afforded by articulated hard- and software mediation. She approaches computer systems via inductive microphones for magnetic fields, so-called “telephone adapters." With choreographies for software and computer elements, she utilizes these as actors in software/noise pieces for, and in, computers. Vuksic considers time and space of computer processor and memory as levels of reality. Software being processed creates own temporal and spatial dimensions, which are staged for a public. She aims for a sensual experience of the analytical sphere becoming concrete, where logic encounters the physical world. The mechanic noises serve as mediators to a public. They reveal in an immediate way the activities taking place between computer processes in the widest sense and the computer electronics they are running on.

Search Add 5 John Permenter Fiddle player and singer, originally from Texas. John Permenter's love for Country Music comes from his father who listened to Hank Williams, Marty Robbins, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Roger Miller and others... John fell in love with the violin after hearing Johnny Gimble play with Bob Wills: he begins the violin immediately. In 1977 after hearing Johnny Paycheck's song "Take this job and shove it", he quit his construction job and started singing and playing the violin for a living. Although he learned music in a school, his training was actually done in Honky Tonks throughout Texas and especially in Houston and San Antonio. For several years, he travels with Johnny Bush and also sings at Gilley's, a Honky Tonk owned by Mickey Gilley and there he meets European fans who are, according to him, more fans than some Americans and swears to cross the Atlantic one day to play in Europe. In the 80s, he worked in the studios in Houston and met Clint Black who hired him to play in his first album. He joined Clint Black's band and toured with them for two years. He also played in 1990 with Moe Bandy and landed in Branson, Missouri, with his wife and child. In 1995, he decided to pursue a solo career. Liz Anderson wrote him a song "Everybody's gotta run their own railroad" which is the title of his album. This one will be very well received in England. His dream of playing in Europe is coming true. He plays there 4 months a year, most often in Holland and also records in studios for other artists. He also tours in very beautiful countries such as Scotland, England, Ireland, Germany... He recorded his second album "Wayfaring Strangers" in Branson, Missouri, with his friends from Moe Bandy's band. In 1999, he moved to Austin, Texas, and performed with Dale Watson. And finally, he realizes an old dream, he records in Austin an album with all the songs that his father loved "Roots ~ The songs my father loved". John continues to cross the Atlantic from time to time to play in Holland, France but also in Germany, Belgium, etc... Permenter later lived in England and Ireland.

Often moaned about due to their unyielding addiction to alcohol and mayhem, they consistently entertain and bewilder in equal measures. Regulars at Rebellion festival and UK DIY gigs, they can usually be spotted with their tops off at the bar and leaving a trail of destruction, anarchy and chaos behind them. Their music is varied on their albums but live shows tend to focus on the 'faster' element of their output, but they have been known to occasionally utilise a harpsichord in the live arena. Not suitable for the squeamish or shy.

Search Add 5 Dan Morze Born in '92, Dan Morze is a Hip Hop Producer who has grew up in Essex around the outskirts of London. Infatuated by the sound of early-mid 90's hip hop, you can hear the heavy influence of legendary producers such as Lord Finesse, Pete Rock, ChySkillz, Nick Wiz, Marley Marl, Dj Muggs and many more. The Emu SP1200 is the main choice of weapon for Dan, assisted by the brilliance of its relative, the Emu Emax. These 12 bit samplers play a huge role in Dan's creativity.
