Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.
Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.
There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.
One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report
We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.
Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

| Search | Add | 3 | Paul Weingardt | Paul Henry Weingardt | Paul H. Weingardt was a native Colorado accordionist born of Volga-German immigrant parents in Sterling on September 24, 1915. Both of his parents were born in the area along the Volga river where Russian Empress Catherine the Great had invited Germans to immigrate in the mid-late 18th century. A century later, many of them came to America, settling in (among other places) northeastern Colorado and the adjacent western Nebraska panhandle and working in the sugar beet industry. Paul’s parents, the Weingardt and the Appelhans families, came to Sterling, while his future wife’s family, the Klugs, stopped in Julesburg, 50 miles up the recently completed Union Pacific Railroad line near the Nebraska border. Many of the musicians who played with Paul were also from Volga-German immigrant families, by the name of Schneider, Deines, Sewald and Walters. During the 1940s and 50s, Paul joined his brothers Frank and Alex, performing as the “Alpine Boys” or the “Alpine Dutch Hop Boys,” along with hammered dulcimer (tsimbal) players Palmer Deines or Henry Schneider, reed man Jake Walters and horn man V. A. Hartman. Later, Paul was joined by his nephews, Leroy Weingardt and Paul E. Weingardt, both of whom taught music with him at the “Alpine School of Accordion Champions.” Henry Schneider’s younger brother Alex also performed with the Weingardts, and Henry and Alex performed together as the “Schneider Brothers.” In 1948, the Cooper Music and Appliance Center of Fort Collins advertised five 78 rpm records as new releases by the Weingardt Brothers and Palmer Deines, a hammered dulcimer player. The label was “C.R.S.” with the discs numbered 102 through 106. These recordings appear to have been reissued in the early 1950s on Frontier, a Denver label that issued additional releases by Weingardt, as well as by other musicians. Paul also issued material on his own “Alpine” label. Tragically, Paul and Anna Weingardt, along with Henry and Frieda Schneider, died in a car crash in Wyoming, returning to Denver from a performance at the Scottsbluff/Gering VFW Hall in Nebraska. Paul and Anna’s eleven-year-old son, Kenneth, was injured but survived. Paul was aged 49 and Anna 47. |

For most of the 1970s and 1980s New Zealand-born Leo De Castro was one of the best singers working in Australia. Leo was a permanent fixture on the pub/concert/festival circuit and was praised for his astonishingly soulful vocal abilities. The redoubtable singer was always able to surround himself with musicians of quality and distinction. Unfortunately he was under-recorded and this collection is the first legitimate attempt to anthologise the work of this great performer. The breadth and depth of the material that he did record proves categorically he was a contender for extensive commercial success. The reasons for a lack of widespread success are many and varied – it’s not our purposes here to debate or investigate the reasons fully – suffice to say that at least we can be grateful for the fact that he was such a force of nature as a performer. Particularly gratifying is being able to hear the live material (much of it previously unreleased) delivered by Friends circa 1972 and 1973. (Ian McFarlane) |

A native of the Sabaneta neighborhood of Ponce, Don Arturo was born on July 20, 1904. From a young age, he accompanied his mother, Emilia Nieves, to Three Kings Day celebrations, singing Christmas carols. His mother was quite popular, as she sang these songs and carols and could read. Don Arturo learned to sing from her. Don Arturo began writing décimas (ten-line stanzas) in 1916. One of his first décimas was dedicated to the death of Luis Muñoz Rivera. Don Arturo recounts that Don Luis Muñoz Rivera died on November 20, 1916, and by the 27th, Don Arturo was out on the streets selling the décimas, which used to be a common practice to earn a few cents offering the writings. Part of the décima read: "Muñoz Rivera, who one day in a strange way brought us from Spain a strange autonomy" Don Arturo recalls that Christmas bonuses were also sold, which cost 2 cents each. Don Arturo recounts that in 1926 he gave Pedro Marcano the song “De La Montana Vengo” (I Come from the Mountain), which is now known as “Alegre Vengo de la Montana” (I Come Joyfully from the Mountain). In 1940, along with [a=Toñin Romero], Don Arturo began presenting on a political radio program for the Alliance Party on WPAB. This program (hosted by Braulio Castillo) paid him $40 a week, which was a good salary at the time. Don Arturo went to New York in 1946 where he formed a group, “Aires de Borinquen” (Airs of Borinquen). In New York, he worked as a cook for a year. His group was active until 1963. Before leaving for New York, Don Arturo recounts that he helped Toñín Romero form his radio band at WPAB, with Vicente Velázquez on the orchestra. The tradition of parrandas (traditional Puerto Rican Christmas celebrations) began in Ponce in 1947 and continues to this day. Arturo wrote his book of décimas (ten-line stanzas), "Aires de Borinquen" (Airs of Borinquen). In 1959, he participated in the first troubadour competition held by the Institute of Culture in Ponce, where Don Arturo won first prize. Don Arturo worked as a driver in Ponce from 1960 to 1986. This great troubadour and décima writer passed away in Ponce on June 7, 1986. |

It was composed by David Löfberg who wrote music and lyrics for a dream ensemble consisting of the singer Elina Ryd, string quartet (Malvakvartetten), guitar, accordion and double bass. The fairly consistent theme of fine-tuned melancholy and night mood in music and lyrics soon gave the orchestra its name. The music is cross-genre, almost a kind of chamber music that borders on show and chanson. Singing and lyrics are central, but at the same time the instrumental is given a large place in the arrangements with winks to tango, jazz, etc., also based on the musicians' different backgrounds. The focus is on the melodies. Over the years, the orchestra has made about a hundred performances in a variety of contexts (see performance history) and received a great response from a large and wide audience. In the autumn of 2014, Midnattsorkestern released the full-length album "Over the City Roof - Songs by David Löfberg" on the company Kakafon. The album was very well received in the press and has been played extensively on the radio. In 2016, Midnattsorkestern tried a collaboration for the first time when a string orchestra, Camerata Gothia, temporarily had to shoulder the role of the string quartet with a large ensemble as a result. This worked very well and is something we would like to do again with more ensembles of different kinds, amateur or professional. | |
