Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 24/10/2024
Found 596840 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.
The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.
These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.
Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.
Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.
There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.
One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report
We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.
Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?
Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search | Add | 17 | Keita Fodeba | Keita Fodéba | Founder and leader of a pioneering African dance company which introduced traditional African dance and music to the rest of the world. Keita Fodéba was born on January 19, 1921 in Siguiri (now in the Republic of Guinea). After completing his primary education in Conakry (Guinea), he attended the William Ponti Institute in Dakar (Senegal). In 1944, he graduated with a teaching degree. After teaching high school students for several years in Senegal, Fodéba moved to Paris, France. There, he became an avid researcher of theater and dance, and in 1949, founded “Les Ballets Africains de Keita Fodéba". The first performance by Les Ballets Africains was staged at the Théâtre de l'Étoile in Paris in November 1952. It was an instant success. After touring France for several years, Fodéba brought his company to Africa in 1955 and conducted an extensive tour in the then French colonies of West Africa. During that trip, he was selected to be Minister of Interior of the Republic of Guinea by its first president, Ahmed Sékou Touré. Fodéba later held a number of other positions in the Guinean government, including as head of Defense and Security. He was arrested for political reasons on March 21, 1965 and died in prison in 1969. |
Search | Add | 17 | Billy Starlight | Harold Edward Richardson | Born sometime in 1918 or 1919 Died around December 1966, but his body was not found until January 1967, near the shallow grave of his wife, in the bush town of Little Badja, 30 miles NE of Cooma, near Melbourne, Australia. His death, at 47, was established by the coroner (Mr. D.G. Hughes) to be "effects of poisoning, willfully administered" most probably as a result of depression following the death of his wife in September 1963, at age 23. She died from a gun shot to the head in "unknown circumstances". Information obtained from "The Age" newspaper dated August 11, 1967, page 3 "Billy Starlight" also went under the alias William Kinkaid, but it is not certain whether he ever used this alias in his musical performances. |

Search | Add | 17 | The Indiana Red Birds | Joe Taylor was a native of Portsmouth, Ohio and later when he was 16, his family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana. In 1948, he formed a band called the Indiana Red Birds that became pretty popular in the area. They were featured over the airwaves of radio station WGL in Fort Wayne every Saturday from noon to 1:00pm. They offered a variety of entertainment for their listening fans. The group often did appearances at the infamous Buck Lake Ranch. Joe Taylor was known as "The Cowboy Auctioneer". Other members of the Indiana Redbirds included an 18 year old accordionist, Patti Corbat. She could also do square dance calls, twirl the baton and provided some of the vocals. Connie "Cheeseburger" Smith provided expertise on the spanish and steel guitars. They termed Bill Allen a 'three-in-one' entertainer as he could play three instruments - bass, guitar and harmonica. And to round out the group's musical sounds, they had Gene Davis who provided good old fashioned hoe down fiddling. When Gene and Patti teamed up on a square dance, things got to moving in the halls where they performed. Group Members included: Joe "The Cowboy Auctioneer" Taylor (Born: May 11, 1921 - Died: March 24, 2011) Patty Corbat, accordion Connie "Cheeseburger" Smith, Spanish and steel guitar Bill Allen, bass, guitar and harmonica Gene Davis, hoe-down fiddler Credits & Sources Cowboy Songs No. 21; July 1952; American Folk Publications, Inc.; Derby, CT

Search | Add | 17 | Ed Cassidy | American drummer, born May 4, 1923, died December 6, 2012, who was one of the founders of the rock group Spirit in 1967. In 1950 he enrolled at college to get a musical teaching credential, but after about a year decided to leave and move to southern California to meet more jazz musicians and perhaps form a group of his own. During this period he performed together with many leading jazz musicians including Art Pepper, Julian Cannonball Adderley, Roland Kirk, Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan. With Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder, he formed the [a1391370] in 1964. After that, he formed the Red Roosters in 1965, with his young stepson Randy California, Jay Ferguson and Mark Andes. Adding John Locke, they became Spirit in 1967. A powerful, melodic and creative drummer, Cassidy was uniquely recognizable when on stage with Spirit. He sported a shaved head (very unusual at that time), always wore black, and instead of the double-bass drum kit that was popular at the time, he used a single large parade bass drum turned sideways, with pedals on each side. He had a proclivity for playing extended drum solos with his bare hands instead of drumsticks.

Migrating with his family to Melbourne, he attended primary school at Williamstown. Following Frederick's death in 1894, George went with Sarah to join relations in Perth. They lived close to poverty until George's rich soprano voice gained him jobs in cheap vaudeville shows. In 1896 mother and son moved to Kalgoorlie, then in the grip of gold-fever. Sorlie sang in bars, halls and in the streets, and was able to support his mother. At the height of his career (1920-40) Sorlie was known as the 'King of the Road', both as an actor and a producer of drama, pantomime, musical comedy and vaudeville. His cheery smile and devotion to 'clean' entertainment earned him the respect of the theatrical world. Zebra-striped cars heralded a Sorlie show in many a country town. His most famous part was the lead in Uncle Tom's Cabin: on one occasion a Townsville publican protested at the whipping Tom received from Simon Legree. Helpless on the floor with laughter, Sorlie was unable to reassure his audience that the whipping was theatrical. |

Search | Add | 17 | Astral Dance | Pelle Händén | Astral Dance is Pelle Händén, a Swedish synthesist and pioneer within Swedish electronica music who has always proved his worth as both an exemplary synthesist and composer of progressive soundscapes from beyond. He reveals himself as a multi-instrumentalist of great adeptness. All in all his music cutting across and blending a wide range of styles most effectively. A sense of atmosphere plays a key role and creates energetic electronica soundtrack-like moods. Astral Dance is a splendid machinery of talented creations. It is both very dark and wonderfully bright. There is plenty to choose from here. From soothing arpeggios, to the snarling but graceful drums. It is a world filled to the brim of oriental delights and music paradises. Slight basses and hums tiptoe. Dark pads sneak in then back out again. Twinkles of stars represent the sweet sounding arpeggios. High notes reaching the very sky and plucking the moon from it. Settling it nicely in us all. Romances abstract, grief and joy, lost moments of love and pain. I'ts all here for you. |

The group went through some line-up changes, and was renamed to Stamps Ozark Quartet in 1948, and relocated to Wichita Falls, Texas. The quartet was mainly associated with the radio station KWFT, but they also performed live. After they lost their radio sponsor in late 1956, the group members decided to disband the quartet. They made a brief comeback in the mid-1970s. In 1948, the line-up consisted of tenors Ford Keith and Orvelle "Pat" Garner, baritone Charles Bartlett, bass Russell Richardson, and pianist Henry Slaughter. By 1949, Richardson had been replaced by bass Fred Bennett. In 1951, Keith passed away and was replaced by tenor Glen Payne. Slaughter left the group in 1952, but returned in 1954 both as a pianist and a baritone. He left the group early 1956. Other pianists who played with the group include Gordon Woodley, Livy Freeman, and Cecil Pollock.

Search | Add | 17 | Peppino Pippia | Italian accordionist from Sardinia. PEPPINO PIPPIA (Fisarmonicista) Born in Narbolia in 1937, Peppino Pippia was the first accordionist to go on stage and accompany the cantadores (Singers of Sardinian folklore with guitar "Cantu a chitarra"), along with the traditional guitarist. It happened during a race at Codrongianos. [a=Nicolino Cabizza], convinced that the stage should be enriched and renewed with another figure, invited Peppino Pippia, then very young, to perform together with the cantadores and the guitarist. For Sardinian singing it was a true revolution, appreciated by innovators and challenged by traditionalists. For Peppino Pippia it was undoubtedly a growing success, especially since he partnered with guitarist [a=Adolfo Merella], forming a close-knit and high-quality duo. Many of his performances, not only in Sardinia and in Italy, but also abroad, and not less the recordings. Info: http://www.cantosardoachitarra.it

Search | Add | 17 | Biggy Smallz | Tim Bigelow | Biggy Smallz (born in 1979) was an underground White/Latino rapper from the west coast who started recording music in 1991 when he was around 12 years old. He is the main reason The Notorious B.I.G. was unable to use his nickname (Biggie Smalls) as his official stage name. By the time The Notorious B.I.G's album Ready To Die dropped in September 1994, the original Biggy Smallz was just 16 years old. Ready To Die inadvertently helped boost the sales of the original Biggy Smallz' records due to confusion in the listening market. In other words, people accidentally bought Biggy Smallz' records thinking they were buying The Notorious B.I.G's. Although he did release other songs. When The Gulf War ended in 1991 he, like many artists, created a tribute song about it entitled "When Duty Calls." |

As a dancer, she toured with Duke Ellington, Louis Jordan, and Count Basie. Her first singing break came when she replaced [a=Eartha Kitt] in the musical revue, "New Faces of 1952," and subsequently, she was hired to become a member of the original cast of "New Faces of 1956." In 1959, she had a three-month stint in the UK, where she appeared in an ITV television show called "On the Air." On returning to the United States, she performed in Las Vegas night clubs, and signed a recording contract with [l1339481] in August 1959. But eventually she grew weary of the night club shows, and wanted to focus on composing and songwriting. In the mid-1960s, while working with pianist Daryl Kaufmann in Vancouver, Washington, she was hospitalized and diagnosed for spinal meningitis. After two years of treatment she had partially recovered and was able to move to Mount Angel Abbey in Oregon where she became a musical composer-in-residence. During her time in the abbey, she studied theology, and wrote a number of hymns and songs, and longer works such as the Everyman's Mass in Honor of St. Benedict. Her composition, "Pockets: It's Amazing When Love Goes On Parade," was performed by [a=Duke Ellington And His Orchestra] when the abbey's Alvar Aalto library was dedicated in May 1970, and she also sang with the orchestra. In 1994, the abbey honored Henry with an award for her accomplishments.
