Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 28/01/2025

Found 600568 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 16 Larry Cross Russell Titus Born Russell Titus in New Brunswick, Canada, he went from school into stage work and regular broadcasting. His first band job came while he was still a student and this led to several appearances as singing compere at Lowe`s Theatre, Montreal. Next came a year in New York singing with the Richard Himber and Roger Wolf Kahn orchestras. Returning to Canada, Larry starred in many radio shows, one of which ran three years without a break, and became compere of the long-running 'Merchant Navy Show'. Not just a performer, Larry was an Honours Student at the Toronto Academy of Radio Art. Following wartime service with the Canadian Army he returned to his radio work and made personal appearances coast to coast in the United States. He played Barbara Kelly`s husband in a series called 'John and Judy' written by Bernard Braden. By the early fifties Larry had decided to come to Britain and in June 1951 Geraldo used him as vocalist on his recording of 'Across the wide Missouri'. The same month Parlophone signed him as a solo artist and released his 'Castles in the sand', a song from the prolific pens of Bob Hilliard and Dave Mann. Over the following eighteen months Parlophone made good use of the Cross voice, issuing a new record almost every month. In November 1954 he was the first artist to appear on the new Embassy label sold exclusivly by Woolworth stores. With twelve issues over the next three years Larry covered many hit songs of the day, without ever making the charts himself as the Embassy discs were not allowed to feature in the sales charts. Larry had several radio airings and his natural mid- Atlantic broadcasting voice ensured him compere work on shows like 'Star Band Cavalcade' and Commonwealth of Song'. In 1955 he took over as host of a Radio Luxembourg series, 'People are Funny', sponsored by Pye Ltd. This was a programme that had originated in America in 1942 where the public were encouraged to take part in crazy stunts, with Larry`s first show being recorded in London`s Russell Square Turkish baths. Also at home on the legitimate stage, in 1955 he toured in 'Anniversary Waltz' with Barbara Kelly and Bernard Braden, and it was straight acting on stage and in film that began to take up more of his time from here on.

Search Add 16 Lily Gale Lily Gale Lily Gale is a Dutch music producer known for her energetic pounding symphonic hard trance. Her musical journey started in 1998, where she hosted a weekly show at a Dutch radio station, where she played various music. Around 2002 she developed an interest in electronic trance music. During her early musical career she became acquainted with several DJ’s and producers, with whom she started producing music and playing records. This was the foundation from where she developed many contacts in the dance scene. Always inspired by modern art, Lily Gale combines different art forms to her music in the widest sense of electronic dance music. Her vision encompasses a mixture of symphonical, progressive, avant-garde electronic dance music along the lines of goa, techno and trance. She feels that there must be a tale to be told and emotions to be felt. Deep rounded kicks and basslines pull the audience into the storyline while chapters emerge layer by layer working through moments of void, shrouded cosmic mysteries and ultimately fulfilling climaxes. Meanwhile her passion for modern arts took her around Europe where her art was exhibited in many renown places in Amsterdam and Brussels. Often she made her paintings available for non-profit charity organisations dedicated to help families and children. In 2009 she received the honorable Diploma of Excellence Award from leading global art organisation Artoteque for her work. Since 2021 Lily Gale has her own label named Star Vision Records for her more trance oriented work. With her behind the scenes experience around emerging artists & labels, knowhow in music production, distribution and marketing it’s a natural step in her musical endeavours. Her harder techno and industrial productions can be found on labels like Blackly Beyond Records.

Search Add 16 Мария Каринская Каринская Мария Александровна Russian mezzo-soprano (born on March 6, 1886 in Orenburg, Russia - died on January 14, 1942 in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada) Maria Karinskaya studied voice at the conservatory in her hometown Orenburg and later graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory. In 1904, Karinskaya made her debut in operetta in the troupe of V. A. Kazansky. Severe rheumatism prevented her from performing in the opera. Instead, she became known as a singer of romances, praised for her strong mezzo-soprano voice that came almost close to a contralto. During the war, she performed "Evenings of Russian Antiquity," singing Russian folk songs in traditional Russian costume and raising huge sums for the treatment of wounded soldiers. After the October Revolution 1917, however, her wealth was seized and she, her son and her daughter fled to Harbin, China, where she converted to Protestantism and became a missionary. In 1924, she made her way to the United States via Canada. Later, she and her daughter lived on a farm in Canada.

Classically trained through an arts scholarship in Nottingham and then studying for a BMus (hons) at Goldsmiths College, University of London, she soon ventured out of the concert hall to seek new ways of creating music, suddenly finding herself in a very different kind of orchestra, Chrome Hoof, in 2000, with whom she stayed throughout their career. Chlöe collects sounds and diagrams, composing predominantly for bassoon, saxes, electronics and found sounds to explore synaesthetic memory and collective experience. Regular other playing is currently bassoon, saxes and backing vocals with Knifeworld, processed sax in Hirvikolari and in Lindsay Cooper Songbook with Chris Cutler, Dagmar Krause, Tim Hodgkinson and Yumi Hara, performing the music of Lindsay Cooper (Henry Cow/News From Babel) as well as occasional live performances with Teeth of the Sea and Daniel O'Sullivan's live band. Chlöe has appeared on various recordings over the years by bands such as Guapo, Cathedral and Mothlite and has composed for and taken part in performance and sound artworks by Turner prize winner Tai Shani, Jonathan Baldock, Serena Korda/Daniel O’Sullivan and Circumstance. Alongside her work as a musician, she worked as an educator for 20 years, until recently, lecturing Music Performance and Production on the UAL courses at Westminster Kingsway College in Kings Cross, London.

In the mid-80s, the band became known for great songwriting and raucous shows in clubs from Long Beach Island (LBI) to Asbury Park, including regular shows in Philadelphia and New York City. The band released three albums (Beyond The Beaches, Set The Night On Fire and Custom Made) and had steady airplay on radio stations from Philadelphia to the Jersey Shore. When the run was over, Deely joined the Disco Rejects led by [a=Vincent Lopez] for a brief while. He moved to Florida and formed the Big Show before heading out to California. Deely currently lives in Los Angeles and continues to write and record songs.

Search Add 16 Lenny McKinnon Lenny (William, Leonard, Len) McKinnon was the man behind several record labels from the Reading, PA area that existed during the 1960s, all sharing the same address at 411 Gordon St. He often receives Writing, Arrangement and Production credits on the various releases from these labels. His name appears on other Reading and Philadelphia-area releases as late as the early 1980s. McKinnon's name appears in Record World directories published in the 1960s and 1970s, listed as a Record Manufacturer, Tape Manufacturer and Duplicator, Distributor, (McKinnon Record Dist. Co.) Rack Jobber ( McKinnon Record's Dist.), One Stop (United, Dept 1-A) and Personal Manager (Hit Artist's Management, Performing Artist's Representation). These businesses also share the 411 Gordon St. address, and share a phone number with a (215) area code. A PO Box in area code 19601 is sometimes given. Similar listings and attributions are found in the July 8, 1967 issue of Cashbox. In the August 31, 1968, Section 2 issue of Billboard, under the entry for Slide, Beulah F. Coad is listed as the label's General Manager. A "Coad" was a co-writer of the songs found on the release [r15763214] In the September 22, 1973 issue of Billboard Buyer's Guide, McKinnon is listed as the owner of the following labels: McKinnon, Center City, Hit Kingdom, Holy Cross, Margie, Movieland, Reading, Slide, Tammy, Alabam, Manna, Backstage, Bluegrassive, Cypress Garden, Emarage, Johnny Reb., Middletown, Ohiophone, Orange Grove, Otisville, Super Soul Shonograms, Surface, Topside, Tridelta, and Virginian. A publishing company, [l=Slide Music Pub. Co.] (ASCAP), is listed as well, along with a host of affiliates. McKinnon is listed in the July 7, 1979 issue of Billboard as the owner of McKinnon Pictures/Rec Co. The label manager is listed as Phyllis Gray. The most extensive mentions of McKinnon can be found online in the blog posts of an unknown man from New Jersey (possibly Mark Wayne Mohr), who writes in rambling style across several Wordpress/Blogger blogs including Morianity Foundation, Mountainpen, The Epitome of Harassment, RATS, TATS, & PLAYING REAL FOOTBALL, To Whom It May Concern From The Head Morian, Morianity Bible For Millenium Three, etc. While the veracity and lucidity of these posts is questionable, the blogger may have been a contemporary of McKinnon and a recording artist/musician in the Berks County/Philadelphia/New Jersey area. These posts portray McKinnon in a negative light. Two blog links with search results for "McKinnon" are included in the Sites section.

Search Add 16 Tony Goodacre Tony Goodacre was born in Leeds, England, in 1938, he died in 2022.. He took up the guitar in his teens, originally studying classical and Spanish guitar technique, but he was drawn toward folk and country music instead, initially through the music of Burl Ives. The skiffle boom hit while he was serving in the Royal Air Force, and Goodacre formed his own skiffle band, the Tigers. They were getting enough bookings to make the future look promising, and Goodacre started getting approached as a solo artist. He was suddenly sidetracked into a new field when he was booked into the Cavendish Hotel in Felixstowe during September of 1956, to play a night of country & western music -- he was forced to adjust his repertory on the spot, and the audience response was enthusiastic. The group continued to do skiffle music, but Goodacre slowly found himself drawn to country music, and was able to borrow American records from U.S. servicemen that he met who were stationed in England. By the time he left the service, he had plunged into the music, all while holding down a day job -- beginning as a solo guitarist/singer in 1960, by 1964 he'd formed a duo with Arthur Layfield, and three years later had a full band, Goodacre Country. They were at the core of a country music boom in England, and in 1973 Goodacre won the Record Mirror Award as the Top Solo Country Act in England. He also made his first appearance in Nashville that year, appearing with George Hamilton IV on the Arthur Smith television show. His first album, Roaming Around Nashville, was recorded and released on the Outlet Records label in 1974, and he cut follow-up albums for the same label over the next five years. He made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in 1977, which was followed by an appearance on the Ernest Tubb Midnight Jamboree. He was getting regular bookings in America during the late '70s and his career was focused far beyond England, encompassing the United States, Canada, Australia and the Pacific Rim, and the European continent. In the early '80s, he formed his own label as an outlet for other artists. He occupied a unique niche in country music, winning popularity awards in Holland and other European countries. He later narrated memorial shows devoted to Jim Reeves, and at the start of the 21st century -- opening his fifth decade in music -- was more active than ever. Country music may have had its origins in America (with some lesser but significant contributions from Canada), but it has successfully taken root around the world -- that's how England comes to have a performer who can claim the designation of "Britain's Mr. Country Music."

Search Add 16 Simon Jargy Simon Jargy (1919, Mardin - 2001) was an oriental ethnomusicologist. In May 1950, at the occasion of the International Conference on Sacred Music held in Rome, he gave a conference on “Syrian Liturgical Music” whose text was published in a Pontifical journal. He started studies at the Jerusalem Benedictine Institute and resumed them at the Syriac-Catholic seminary of Charfet (Lebanon). Enrolled at the Catholic University of Paris, he defended a thesis on Syrian Monarchism from the origins to the Arab conquest at the École Pratique des Hautes Études in 1951. Redirecting his research towards studying sung popular poetry, he undertook for the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique/National Centre for Scientific Research) in 1954-55 then in 1958, a number of collecting missions in Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq. Which led him to writing an article in the Orient magazine (1958) and a book “La poésie populaire traditionnelle chantée au Proche-Orient arabe” (Sung Traditional Popular Poetry in the Arab Near-East) (Mouton, 1970) demonstrating his full mastery of the local dialects through his translation of the vernacular texts. But the “Musique libanaise” (Lebanese Music) and “Musique syrienne” (Syrian Music) entries he wrote for the “Encyclopédie de la musique” (Encyclopaedia of Music) (Fasquelle, 1958), limited to the examination of his speciality subject area, i.e. oriental Christianism, are simplistic texts in many respects. In 1964, he was appointed Professor of Islamology and Arab Studies at the university of Geneva. He organized in this city in 1970 the first European concert of future lute star Iraqi Mounir Bashir. The concert was recorded by Emi-Pathé, and Jargy wrote the accompanying text. Later in 1971, he wrote the presentation text of Mounir Bashir’s best recording edited by OCORA (Radio France). He also published the very successful “La musique arabe” (Arab Music) in the «Que sais-je?» series: 23 000 copies, added to an Arabic translation (Jounieh, Lebanon), a record for a work of this kind. Late in life, he redirected his focus towards the Arabian Peninsula that he visited on a regular basis. He published with Zakariyyā al–Ansārī the “Musical Anthology of the Arabian Peninsula” (4 CDs, Geneva, 1994) whose pieces were for the most part recorded by him. In parallel, he published with Hachette books of more general reach on the region: the first ones “Émirats arabes du Golfe” (Arab Emirates of the Gulf) (1976), Yémen (1978), and Koweit (1980) were co-written with Alain Saint Hilaire. His other writings include: Syrie (Syria) (Lausanne 1962), “Guerre et paix en Palestine” (War and Peace in Palestine) (Neuchâtel 1968), “Islam et chrétienté” (Islam and Christianity) (Genève et Paris 1981), that add nothing to his reputation. Out of his whole production, he mostly distinguished himself in ethnomusicology.

Search Add 15 Niels Hutchinson Niels Hutchison Niels Hutchison is an Australian artist. Hutchison shared a house with [a327752]' guitarist [a778977] in the 1970s and designed on commission the cover of their album [m=192655]. His name is incorrectly spelt in the [m=192655] album credits ("Niels Hutchinson"). In addition, copyright to the artwork was claimed by [l=Mushroom Records] in the liner notes: in fact, it is retained by the artist. The album was re-released in 1984 as a 10-year anniversary edition. The new [r5967829] used the same artwork, except its background of brown cardboard was overprinted in gold. [l=Mushroom] removed its claim to copyright in the artwork, but this time both the artist's names were misspelt, as "Neils Hutchinson". Niels has also made a musical arrangement for Gearshift Shuffle, Track 1 on Side A of [r4761802]. He shares credit with [a=Buzz Leeson] and [a=Mick Conway]; his name is once again misspelt as 'Hutchinson'.

Search Add 15 Robert Gayler Robert Augustus Gayler Robert Gayler (6 May 1873, New York — 15 February 1954, Interlachen, Florida) was an American pianist, organist, celesta player, arranger, and music pedagogue. He worked at [l=Edison Records] between 1916 and 1937, supervising the New York Recording Studio team and appearing on numerous releases as an accompanist. In later years, Gayler taught at the Florida Southern College, serving as Professor of Organ and Dean of the School of Music. He was married to soprano singer Marie Fahnestock Stoddart (1878—1939). Gayler showcased a natural talent in early childhood; at fifteen, he already worked as an organist at one of the largest churches in Brooklyn. Robert studied piano with [a=Xaver Scharwenka] and Almon Kincaid Virgil (1842—1921), among others, and organ with Robert J Winterbottom (1855—1941). Between 1903 and 1908, Robert Gayler worked as an operatic coach at [l=The Metropolitan Opera House]. He established a prolific stage career, performing as a piano accompanist with renowned opera and concert singers and cited among the country's foremost Celesta players (also called a "bell-piano" and invented circa 1860s, it was a hammer-struck idiophone with a keyboard about the size of an upright piano). Gayler served as a conductor and musical director at several churches and ensembles in Brooklyn, New Jersey, Long Island, and Branford, Connecticut. He joined [l=Edison Laboratories] in late 1916, appearing in the November issue of Edison Phonograph Monthly with a short bio and his Celesta rendition of "Christmas Eve" released on Blue Amberol 4-minute cylinder. Gayler subsequently made records on other mediums, including the short-lived "Royal Purple Amberol" series (identical to Blue Amberol but dyed in the distinctive bright purple as a marketing ploy) and several generations of vertical-cut Diamond Discs, from the earlier embossed records to the latest printed "white paper" label editions. In 1919, Robert Gayler participated in the iconic series of Sergei Rachmaninoff's recordings, where he performed original works on "S. D. Lauter & Co" concert grand (one of the few models produced by Newark-based manufacturer founded by German-American piano maker Solomon David Lauter (1827—1885) in 1862). The label's founder and great inventor, Thomas Edison, was practically deaf, with only 20% hearing left in his right ear (after scarlet fever and head trauma in his teenage years). An engineer and technician first and foremost, Edison wasn't even a music lover and lacked sophistication, knowledge, or particular taste. Nevertheless, he insisted on personally vetting the catalog and approving each signee. In the 2007 biography "The Wizard of Menlo Park," its author Randall Stross gives a few examples of Edison's notoriously bad A&R decisions; he rejected most popular songs as "miserable dance and ragtime selections," claimed that jazz was "for the nuts" and compared one performance with "the desperate moan of dying animals," and discarded [a=The Metropolitan Opera] as "lacking tune." Unsurprisingly, Thomas Edison declared an awkward, tall Russian genius Rachmaninoff, with his unprecedented technique as a mere "pounder" in the first audition. Robert Gayler and the label staff had to beg and plee with Edison to reconsider his dismissive opinion before he finally agreed to sign a ten-record deal.

Member of the WSB Barn Dance and WWVA Original Jamboree. "The King of the Hillbillies" Considering the quality of Pete Cassell’s music, he could have been among the top names in country music had not certain circumstances conspired against him. As it was, he was an extremely popular radio artist, with an impressive reputation at WSB Atlanta and WWVA Wheeling from the late 1930s to the late 40s. Blind since infancy, he died at the early age of 37, leaving a small but powerful group of recordings that he made for Decca, Mercury, and the Majestic labels. His vocal style—which influenced several other country artists including Eddy Arnold—could be described as achingly soulful, but that doesn’t do full justice to a man who definitely had a way with a poignant song.

Norway's first cowboy singer, fully completed in 1952, had its greatest commercial success with the song "A letter with three loving words" along with Åse Wentzel; The song sold in 67,000 copies. A tendonitis in the left arm of the early 1960s put an end to the career. Thor Raymond went before the Second World War in the photo arch of the uncle who had a photo shop in Kongsgata in Stavanger. As a musician, Thor Raymond was autodidact (self-taught). He even comforted himself by singing simple shows with simple melodies. Thor Raymond started his musical runway as soloist and dance musician along with comrade Rasmus Dahl. He was also guest artist of the reviews that the two cousins Gilbert and Odd Kjell Helgeland set up in Haugesund, in 1947 and 1948. Thor Raymond's real breakthrough came in 1952. He dressed as a cowboy and launched his own songs "A Cheerful Cowboy Song" and "Yippi Ai". In a short period of time, 10,000 plates were sold. Then the songs came on track: "Old Black", "Buldrende Buffalo", "Banjo Bill from Arizona", "Cowboydansen," The lonely cowboy "," Cowboy farewell "and" Red River Valley ". In 1954 he heard the song "Vaya Con Dios" when he listened to Hit Parade on the AFN American Forces Network. Thor wrote Norwegian text and went to studio in Oslo together with Åse Wentzel. The Stavanger artist became Norway's most sought-after gramophone butterfly in a short period of time, and "Vaya Con Dios" is still such a tremendous melody, over fifty years later. The song was the start of a successful collaboration for the duo. In 1955, "A letter with three loving words" came, as with its 67,000 copies sold, became Thor Raymond's biggest commercial success. The melody was followed by several plots of land: "Today I've burned my love letters," "A little apartment", "In a small cafe", "My secret honeymoon," "I love your smile", "Loving, loving thoughts" "Midnight roll", "It's going to be very little" and "Send a greeting home". Several of the melodies were a permanent guest in the NRK Wish Concert for years. At this time Raymond and Wentzel competed with other famous artists such as Alf Prøysen, Kurt Foss and Reidar Bøe, The Monn Keys, Sisters Bjørklund and Jens Book-Jenssen. The 1950s was Thor Raymond's great decade as a record artist, but in the early 1960s his career ended when he received a tendonitis in the left arm. He then took up the thread as a photo consultant and traveled around the country to advise people on restoration and coloring of old photographs. During this time he lived in Oslo, and later moved to a small farm on Toten. After 15 years at Toten, he moved to Jelsa in Ryfylke where his son lived with family. Later he settled down on Sola and Klepp. In 1970 he participated in a radio show in Atlantic Hall, "Back to the 50's". With "Old Black" he finished the artist career with the last big stage show, with the same old voice, and the same simple guitar chords.

Search Add 15 Chicago Pete Alford Obsie Harrell Alford Harrell ("Chicago Pete"), 1931-2001 Born in 1931 in rural Tennessee, Alford Harrell (better known as Chicago Pete) has the history of the archetypal bluesman right up to the point of actually having learned to sing on the cotton field and in the church. Raised up in a religious home, gospel and spirituals were Pete's roots. His mother was a "sweet singer" who taught the kids all kinds of music. "There were no labels back then - just music," said Pete. Young Alford was brought up with his mother's encouragement to reap the full potential of his talents. Knowing well himself what his talent was, Pete's early years were spent singing in groups like his uncle's Heavenly Harmonizers. After serving in the Korean War, Pete found himself in Detroit. From '54 until he moved to Chicago in'59 he performed in gospel vocal groups The Songs of Zion and The Golden Harmoneers. That same year he took up guitar briefly before settling on the bass, under the tutelage of a musician named Robert Bester. "The Fender bass was real popular," said Pete. It was a fine time to start into the blues, as Chicago through the fifties and sixties was rife with clubs and musicians, and as time wore on, Pete got in there like a dirty shirt. By the late sixties, Pete had played with many of the hallmark names of Chicago blues of that era - Earl Hooker, Willie Mabon, Junior Wells, and many others - but he got especially close to Jimmy Dawkins, working much of the time with him. They played a lot at a little after-hours club called the Squeeze. Appropriately named for its size, The Squeeze was a popular spot among musicians, and surely many graced the small stage. Other memorable gigs were at the Peacock, where Pete was a member of the house band; and a place called the Bossa Nova Club. The proprietor there told Pete "As long as you can keep up with that juke-box, the stage is yours", and so Pete with his own group, the Live Wires, covered all the popular styles, and subsequently held down a second house gig. Pete left the band and the Bossa Nova behind when he hooked up with Junior Parker, the man who was perhaps Pete's single biggest influence. He worked with Junior on the road all over the country for three or four years until just before Parker's death in '71. Pete moved back up to Detroit in the early seventies and soon fell in love with the scene there which included people like Little Mack Collins, Alberta Adams, Little Sonny, and Mr. Bo. On a friend's advice that since he spent all those years in Chicago, he should start calling himself CHICAGO PETE, and his new band "The Detroiters," Pete picked up a new handle and a hot new band. The Detroiters were an eight-piece band (or more) outfit with a four-piece horn section, and the big band for nearly the next twenty years was what you could expect to see when you heard the name Chicago Pete. He always had heavy players in the section, and the Detroiters could swing hard. The band covered a number of styles: primarily uptown blues a la Little Milton, and including interpretations of R&B and Motown standards. True to his roots, Pete clearly wasn't limited to musical boundaries. He'd throw in all these different ingredients and just COOK. Combining equal parts intensity, charm, and showmanship, the unifying flavor was Pete's powerful gospel-drenched voice. When Pete eventually relinquished the bass chair to move up front, he'd get way up front - out into the audience and preach to the crowd. His shows could be likened to revival meetings, with rooms of people standing there, shaking and waving their hands in the air, with Pete all up in the middle testifying and shouting "Blues Power!" "Do you feel alright?" Needless to say, Chicago Pete and the Detroiters were a popular regional act: their longevity alone is testament to that.
