Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 10/01/2024

Found 593861 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 2 Gisburns Gisburns were formed September 1992 out of the ashes of [a4472498] when they started playing with newcomer Wiebe, who played in Silicone Madonna. November 1992, two months after they started, the band found themselves in the punk club Parkhof in Alkmaar. They thought it would be some kind of jam session, but soon it appeared that they had been bombarded as headliner. 'It was a great moment to find out what we were worth', according to the band. At the start of 1993 it had been about four years since they had last played a real gig, but they had been jamming in their rehearsal shed. They decided to enter a band contest, not because they especially liked contests, but to get Gisburns going again. It required them to start rehearsing seriously. It worked: they became first in the final of the "Waardse Glorie" on March the 6th of 1993 at Complex in Heerhugowaard. They won a challenge-cup, which was never challenged because Het Kompleks voluntarily stopped being a music venue later that same year, and 150.00 guilders. From a review by Mark Minnema, Alkmaarse Courant, March 8, 1993: "Only Gisburns were convincing musically and as a stage act. Guitar, bass and drums kept it simple, but tight and effective. The trashy songs had enough nice turns and time changes so as not to become boring. And the band holds a trump-card in the singer and part-time guitarist, who draws all attention with his wailing voice and elastic body." Noord-Hollands Glorie Winning Waardse Glorie entitled them to compete against eleven other bands in the "Noord-Hollands Glorie" final on Sunday May 16th, 1993 in the Melkweg in Amsterdam, where winners from all local contests appeared. Gisburns won third place. For photos please go to the scrapbook. From a review by Martin Ottens, MUG, June 1993: "The band that gave the impression of being the most experienced was the last band, who have gained experienced in the squat circuit. Their music is made of sturdy rock with a prominent role for the singer, who sometimes also plays guitar solos with an intensity and feedback like Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. The drummer and bass-player lay a heavy foundation, to which the other guitarist contributes seamlessly." Photo caption: "Gisburns, by many considered as favorite, became third" Muis in an interview by Joop Reurink in Kul magazine, June 1993: "I played fucking great, it's a big kick to play the Melkweg. In fact everybody tipped us as the winner. There were a lot of bookers of small youth club stages in there, and they were required to book one of the three winners, but we haven't heard anything of them yet." From the same interview: "Influences? Wiebe: 'A lot from the sixties and seventies, guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Angus Young (AC/DC) and Eric Clapton in his good days, those kind of things'. In short: fat seventies rock. And Muis adds: 'The strongest point of Gisburns is the vocals by Martijn; when he is on stage he gives all and he knows how to attract all attention'. [..] The lyrics are completely irrelevant, they are (according to the band members) about 'absolutely nothing, most of the time they are improvised or the words are only chosen because they sound great'." After the Noord-Hollands Glorie final the band continued playing, mostly student parties and the alternative circuit of squats and small stages and bars all over Noord-Holland and Amsterdam. In squat house Emma in Wijk aan Zee they got paid with free booze and accommodation in a haystack. In a press release from that time they describe their sound as a "concentrate, that could be described as muscled, this is violent contrast to the appearance of the four gentlemen". It would also sound like a cross between Seattle and the "Palingsound" (the sound of bands from Volendam like The George Baker Selection and The Cats - please note that this is 1993, some years before The George Baker Selection were suddenly hip again thanks to the prominent place of "Little Green Bag" in the soundtrack of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs). By 1994 Wiebe and Martijn lived and Robert studied in Amsterdam, so they could become members of GRAP, a subsidized organization of bands from Amsterdam. Thanks to this they had some shared bill gigs in respectable venues like Melkweg (December 28, 1993), the Arena (August 26, 1994 and September 9, 1995) and Paradiso (last week of 1994, where they played the big stage "like the venue was packed 'till the last balcony"). The first and final CD According to a newspaper article announcing the presentation of their first CD a lot of new material had been written since they started three years ago, and the songs had acquired more depth and the band had aged. From another article, by "our reporter" in Alkmaarsche Courant, October 24, 1995: "Emotion, passion and power. Words that guitarist Wiebe van Ginkel drops when asked to describe his band. Not entirely off the mark, as becomes clear after listening to their self-financed first CD. A pleasantly thrashing band accompanies a very expressive singer who sometimes makes you think of a tormented 'Bono' and sometimes of a melancholic Jim Morrison investigating the dark sides of the inner self. [..] 'At one point in time you out-grow the shed and then you must take the matter up on a larger scale', bass-player Jean-Paul Gazan explains. 'It's a way to break that vicious circle: no CD no gigs, no gigs no CD. And it has to do with your growing process. A painter makes paintings, a musician makes record.' [..] Remarkable between the raw guitars and pounding drums are Martijns emotional vocals. 'I don't feel like I'm a musician', says Martijn. 'As far as I'm concerned it's about expression. It is the extension of a certain passion within you, an anger that you must get rid of in order not to become very unhappy.' [..] Wiebe: [..] 'Listen to what the music does to you. One time it's sensitive, and you play like there's a fire smoldering. The other time it's all about ramming. Our songs originate while 'jamming'. It's all about the magic moment when you connect with each other.' [..] Martijn: 'I don't really understand that whole concept of writing music. Music is made.' [..] 'The problem lies not with the audience, but with the club circuit that's in a state of crisis. Venues can't book bands anymore because of noise restrictions or because of a lack of money. Radio and record companies are not interested, while our music is not even that progressive.' With their roughly 25 gigs a year they don't do all that bad though." Exit Martijn On October 5, 1997 the Gisburns played Atlantis, Alkmaar with Sil Baak of Ripping Ohio standing in for Martijn, who had already been away for some months traveling. The band hadn't played a lot because of Martijn being away, and hoped that this new beginning would mean more gigs. About the name Gisburns were named after Guy of Gisburn, a character out of "The New Adventures of Robin Hood" TV series. Gisburn is also a village in England. Guy of Gisburn of Robin Hood fame was said to have come from here.

Search Add 2 Peter Leijdsman Peter Leijdsman born on the 2nd June 1964 in the city of Groningen, the Netherlands. First musical experience was when he was about 14 years when started playing piano. But as a young man, classical music was not a thing, so after a little bit more than two years he quit playing the piano. Then the drums came into his life. Again he took lessons for about two years, which were very boring. The only fun he had was when he played in school bands jam sessions with a friend who played guitar. But also drumming didn't last long and after a year he sold his Pearl Export drum kit and quit playing drums. Then there was an imported 'musical' moment in his life. He was about 17 when somebody at school brought a tape of Level 42 with him. From the first few tunes this music grabbed him. Mark King is his man and this is what he wanted - play the bass! And so he bought first bass, an Aria Pro II bass and started to listen to Level 42's first album thousands of times trying to play like Mark King. At that time he mainly listened to jazz-funk, jazz-rock and fusion. Besides Mark King he also listened a lot to, Stanley Clarke, the master himself. Especially the Schooldays album is bass-classic. An other favourite is Marcus Miller who was the upcoming bass player at that time. After practising for many hours he finally got the hang of it and things started to work out... He could 'almost' play like Mark King! In the years that followed he played in several session bands, did a lot of jam sessions and had several performances, one of them with a girl who is now his wife Helga, who was a singer at that time! Then, in 1989, he met Gert Emmens while joining the jazz-funk formation Villa Djawa in which Gert was playing keyboards. Later on that year they both left the band to form Confusion. They became very good friends. From the beginning onwards they started to compose their own songs and recorded them in Gert's studio in Arnhem, the Netherlands. During the first years they mainly composed and played jazz-funk music influenced by Level 42, but later on they started to use many styles: R&B, techno, EM, rock, ballad and others. In 1999 they compiled the best songs on a CD which was called Decade. The album was contracted by Peoplesound.com in England in 1999. After this they thought is was time for something else and quit the project. After a few months they started two new projects called: Event Horizon and Native Elements. Event Horizon is a combination of Gert's traditional EM and Peter's progressive trance influences. Native Elements is influences by lounge and ambient. After playing bass for almost 20 years he felt it was time for something new, something in which he could express more of musical thoughts and ideas. So after the Confusion project, end 1999, he quit actively playing the bass. It was about 1995 when he started to listen more and more to dance music (trance, techno and lounge). And in 1996 there was another important moment when he first heard a band called Underworld. A bit similar like hearing Mark King for the first time, this mix of pop and techno really got him. Peter got more and more interested in making this type of music and in 1999 bought his first synthesizer Korg X5d. Soon more synths followed: Yamaha AN1x, Roland Juno 106, Roland JX-1 (from Gert). Searching for sound and a convenient way to work a lot of synthesizers came and went. At the end of 1999 only a Roland JV-30 was left when he saw Propellerheads Reason for the first time. He bought the package and started composing songs for about a year. With his compositions, which were basic song ideas, he went to Gert where he finished them. The results were split up into two separate projects: Native Elements and Event Horizon. Seeing the limitations of Reason he bought (in 2002) a serious synth this time, the Novation Supernova II Pro X. In this period he got influenced by techno and a lot of minimalistic psy-trance artists like Atmos, Vibrasphere, Son Kite. The studio, in Zoetermeer, slowly grows, he bought more sound modules and some drum computers and upgraded his PC with top notch hardware so everything works and sounds perfect. During 2003 Gert was busy with his solo project, and he with the birth his daughter Joèl. But still there is time to write new stuff for the Event Horizon project. In march 2004 they completed the Event Horizon album with a total of 9 tracks. It was send over to several record labels, but without any result. In the mean time he used every single hour to work on new stuff for a solo project. The studio is also under heavy construction. It's moving back towards the PC again with virtual instruments and PC related equipment like the Virus|powercore, Nord G2. Working with soft-synths provides more flexibility and freedom, and thus a better creative process. In Febraury 2005 Gert and Peter decided to stop musical collaboration. After a period of 14 years the inspiration has run dry and they both wanted to focus on their solo projects. In April 2006 after one and a half year of hard work he finished his first solo album. The album, titled Six Degrees of Separation, contains 11 tracks. One of the tracks, Clouds, was chosen 'demo of the month' in august issue of Interface magazine. In June 2007 track Mindsphere was played in the Danish radio show Elektroland.

Search Add 2 Candace Coles Candace Coles is an American R&B singer, born in the city of Washington DC, strongly influenced by [a=Nina Simone], [a=Jill Scott], [a=Etta James] and [a=Chaka Khan], [a=Tina Turner], [a=Anita Baker], [a=Bette Midler], [a=Eartha Kitt], her mother, her aunts, her Nana, your grandmother ... and much more !! Her collaboration with [a=Darien Dorsey], "Breakin' The Rules", is featured in the Cloak & Dagger episode First Light. When it comes to CANDACE COLES her formula is no secret. That special concoction of love, sincerity, and truth is the recipe that is Candace Coles-a soulful singer and songwriter whose warmth resonates throughout an entire room. From the moment you shake her hand and share her smile, it’s obvious Candace’s heartfelt songwriting and passion for life will undeniably leave “her fingerprints all over the world” And she is doing just that with her debut EP, Fingerprints, released December of 2011. A former middle school teacher, Ms. Coles has witnessed first hand the need to continuously inspire and encourage our young girls to live their best lives, and with the release of her hit single “I Own The Night”, she’s doing just that. This upbeat, “pro-girl” anthem was featured in the Pepsi “Black Girls Rock” commercial featuring famed DJ and Philanthropist Beverly Bond, which aired nationwide. After Candace completed her college degree at Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music, she was forced to answer the same question many college grads are faced with, “So what’s next?” She found the answer in her music. “Although the road has not always been an easy one, I’ve noticed that whenever I’ve followed my heart the results are remarkable.” She performed in Brooklyn, NY for the ALT foundation. A non-profit group created in honor of Aijie L Turner. The foundation was created by Ajile's mother to support young entrepreneurs in the arts as he did during his life time. The foundation shares similar interests with Candace as their motto "Footprints of a Dream", provides a strong outlet for youth to channel their artistic expressions. The performance was nothing short of stellar as she shared her heart with the bustling, New York crowd. Soon after opening the evening with her own set, she returned to sing "Testify" with Hip Hop Superstar, Common. Over the past several years she’s spread her wings as a writer and performer, touring around the country with artists such as [a=Martin Luther] and [a=Maimouna Youssef]. Most recently, Candace collaborated with Grammy-Award Winner [a=Gordon Chambers]. This talented young Singer a Songwriter’s star continues to rise, with critics comparing her work with Gordon as reminiscent of [a=Tammy Terrell] and [a=Marvin Gaye]. She co-wrote and is featured on the classic duet “Love You Better” found on Chamber’s new album “Sincere”, on sale now! Candace often explores themes of self-empowerment and challenges her listeners to find their own personal way to share their Fingerprints with the world, as her lyrics suggest in her song YBF, from the EP: “Take a look at the world, tell me what you don’t like, well why don’t you change it, baby fix what you don’t like, why ask why? Cause I’m Young, Beautiful & Fabulous.” From the bustling streets of Boston, to the sunny shores of Los Angeles, and all the way back to her hometown of Washington, DC; Candace’s life nowadays is simply about transit and transitioning. Search Add 2 vovaOMYT Vovaomyt project was born in the cold port streets of Petrograd, the Northern capital of Russia. It is imbued with depression and dark cryptic energy of forgotten factories. In that noise you can here humongous scream, a talk with empty radio, nocturne of iron in a void room. This is ecstatic creation of church from bones, tin and carbon black on the graves of dead factories.
