Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 28/01/2025

Found 600568 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 2 Distant Flows Distant Flow’s journey into music began at the age of 7 in Le Muy, South of France where he would struggle with the confines and lack of creativity that regimented piano lessons offer; instead of listening to his tutor he would dance about and disobey. As a teenager he played guitar in metal bands; a good precursor to the dark heavy beats and melancholic electronic style we hear today. The age of 18 was a turning point for Distant Flows; whilst at college he discovered he could make music on his own, with complete creative freedom with only his laptop and whilst simultaneously discovering bands like Pendulum, who were blurring the lines between Heavy Metal and Drum and Bass, he investigated further falling deeper down the rabbit hole discovering the energy-fuelled worlds of Drum and Bass, Neurofunk, Dub and Dub-step. Distant Flows was blown away, hooked and eager to start producing his own music, originally using soft-synths, drawing inspiration from the likes of Burial and Exission. These days Distant Flows prefers producing with hard-synths, he’s no ‘synth snob’ and has no problem with soft-synths, describing hard-synths as something of a luxury, but enjoys playing and experimenting with something that is tangible. He finds the limitations of hard-sytnhs keeps him focused; finding it harder to end up with something that sounds overproduced “You see amazing people just playing guitar in the street, so it’s not all about the equipment”. Distant Flows finds making music cathartic, it’s his release and finds it to be partially self-defining. Over the past couple of years has found himself to be at ease with the process, describing making music being similar to speaking a second language, “you have to get the grammar in place first, otherwise it’s super simple and functional”. In 2017 Distant Flows set his sights on Bristol, he wanted to move due to the rich music history in the city, “In the South of France, I knew no one making electronic music, and that is the real difference with Bristol.” Distant Flows describes his music as moody, melancholic without being too dark, almost like an enjoyable sadness. He has many influences, but is particularly interested in the careers of Paul Kalkbrenner, Lorn and Jon Hopkins.

Search Add 2 Mark Room Mark Room has already begun with nine years to realize his love for music in the local marching band. Several times he wins the title „German Champion" with this club. But only to play the marsh drum was not enough – he deals increasingly with music theory. His own computer becomes like a small studio and the first sounds were arranged digitally. Furthermore he starts to play music in clubs, discotheques and on events. It is his special sound combination which makes the audible difference to other artists. In collaboration with a local studio the first release generated in the end of 2002. Promptly the track stays in various charts on top positions for several weeks. Exclusive Remixes for own use grade up Mark Room’s DJ sets and makes him ready for the international stage.

Search Add 2 Aaron Dizzy Ohio-based new wave band active from 1976-1986, 2001-2005 and 2007. Brainchild of [a=Robert Runyeon], vocalist, guitarist, and chief songwriter, who started the band in 1976 with drummer [a=Randall Owens] out of a homemade studio in West Carrollton. In August 1977, all their equipment, including six guitars and six and a half years of mastered tapes, were stolen. It took almost two years to recoup their losses from the theft. The band eventually returned to recording in a friend's studio soon after the theft, where during this session they met [a=Jeffery Tutt], who then became their keyboardist, and later, a vocalist as well. In 1979, three of their tracks (given the collective name "Looking For A Planet") were submitted, unbeknownst to the band, by the engineer from the recording session to WEBN-FM for their fourth [l=WEBN Album Project] compilation, and subsequently pressed ([r=3022666]). The back cover dubs the composition as "one of the most creative and compelling ever entered in Album Project competition". In March 1979 they appeared as part of a public television special on local talent, sponsored by WEBN-FM. It was this year that guitarist [a=Mike Dowden (2)] (now deceased) joined the group. On March 12, 1980, they would appear on music show "Rock Around The Block", performing an hour long set. In September 1980, Dennis Rich, a longtime friend of Runyeon's, acted as manager for the band as well as a part-time lyricist. In 1981/1982, Runyeon and Tutt recorded a five-track demo cassette to be sent to A&M Records ([r=15235088]), in one of many attempts to secure a contract. Unfortunately this was not successful. In May 1982, Owens left the band to become a drummer for Zummo, as did Mike Dowden to become guitarist of [a=Bramble (2)]. The last mention of the band (which was by this time either just a solo outlet for Runyeon or a duo with Tutt) was a show at the 1-Stop in Dayton on February 22, 1986. A website, aarondizzy.com, was first started in July 2001, announcing many upcoming projects, including live performances slated for autumn 2001 (which were postponed) as well as new music being released. This website would stay up until mid-2004. In February 2002, Runyeon (under the name Aaron Dizzy), began performing with an ensemble, the Aaron Dizzy All-Starz. The All-Starz consisted of Jeffery Tutt, Heather Tutt-Robinson, Ann Dodson, Al Hidalgo, Tim McIntosh, Chad Robinson, Ira Stanley, Sal Salaz, Kerrie Van Wagnor, Larry Vest, and Anya. The band's first full album, titled "Cozmic Consequence" was released in early March 2002, under the name "a . k . a . aaron". This iteration of the band continued to perform sporadically until 2005. They performed once again in April 2007 at the open house of the Playhouse Entertainment Complex, which Runyeon owns.

Search Add 2 Al Ponting Al Ponting (14/5/1948 – 1/9/2007) was married to singer Heather Innes. Al wrote a number of his own songs and recorded these during his life along with other covers. Heather writes:” I met Al at a folk event in Hereford, England in March 1996. At the time he had recorded a full cassette tape of songs but couldn’t afford to have the recording printed off as cassettes. That was until I found him a gig at a hotel on Holy Island, Northumberland. The gig was on a Sunday evening and Al and I went straight from a church service at St Mary’s on the island to his gig. At the service I noticed that Al put his very last pennies in the collection plate. In the break at Al’s gig a young couple approached Al for a copy of his song “Bluebell Time”. When they learnt that Al didn’t have a recording and why, the man, a solicitor from the south of England, wrote Al a cheque on the spot to fund the recording of 500 cassettes with the one proviso Al send him and his fiancé one of the cassettes.” Later Al joined folk band “Firefrost” for a while then formed a duo “Freeloaders” for a number of years with singer/guitarist Davey Shaw. During his career as a singer/songwriter Al penned a number of peace songs which he put together as several peace concerts with a variety of musicians in Scotland and Florida, USA. Being a builder and blacksmith by trade, Al had a desire to provide decent, affordable housing for folk in need and contacted the Habitat for Humanity organisation to donate the proceeds of his peace concerts and to help with the building of one of their houses on a trip to Florida. Heather’s duo “Caim” was invited to record at the studio of Right Real Records in Rotherham, Yorkshire and thought Chris of Right Real Records should hear Al’s music. Chris liked what he heard and Al visited Right Real Records in July 2007 to record 4 of his songs – including his song “Valley of Love”. During this time Chris and Al became firm friends. Al had a sudden stroke resulting in renal failure at the end of August 2007 and died on 1 September 2007. Al’s song “Valley of Love” was quickly mastered by Chris and made ready to play at Al’s funeral and Chris sang his own song “Goodnight” for Al at the service. Both songs are on this album of Al’s which Chris and Heather put together after Al’s death as a tribute to him. Al had wanted to have a CD called “Full Vision” – Chris and Heather completed it for him.
