Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 28/01/2025

Found 600568 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 2 Zen Bow Zenbar Bennett here’s Zen Bow’s interview regarding his childhood in Jamaica, his musical experiences and, well, how he got that name… Enjoy! ******* Zenbar, where are you from in Jamaica? I grew up in Falmouth, parish of Trelawny, Jamaica. Same place than the Twinkle Brothers… Exactly. We’re from the same block. I used to listen to them, Ralston, Norman… But they were older than us. Were you already singing as a youth? I was singing back in Jamaica among a group called Righteous Roots, small local band. But then moved to the US in my early twenties and did I some work -then I went back into the singing. Why did you pick Zen Bow for a name? I thought that was after the book Zen Bow, Zen Arrow. OK. Zen Bow was given me by my teacher. I used to love writing, I love to write. I had a pen pal back in Jamaica that instead of putting ‘Zenbar’ on his envelopes, he put ‘Zenbow’, so my class started calling me Zen Bow. So how did Zen Bow got his break in the reggae scene in the US? First thing I did in 1985 was to attend a talent shows where I lived, in Hartford CT. It was for reggae artists in town, I can’t remember exactly its name, it wasn’t broadcast. It was just a little thing to bring out the artists in Hartford. It was more of a talent search. I came second but caught the ear of the people in that band called Crucial, and they asked me to join. At first I said, “not really”’cause I didn’t want to take away the leadership of the band. But I went listen to them and I liked what I heard, and they liked what they heard from me. So I joined, and we started to play around, you know, in places like in NYC, Rhode Island, Boston, year round. Jimmy Swing played lead guitar. There was a big bass player called Jimmy Rankin, “Big Bassie”. And you have Snow White on drums. We didn’t do no recording. We did live shows, that was they used to do before, cover songs, but since I joined the band, I always do the writing so I’d bring forward new material to the band. So Impression was pretty much the first tune you recorded? Yes. Now this song was inspired by an incident that took place in Hartford on a Sunday afternoon. Something went down and they started to say, you know, ‘rastaman did that, and Jamaicans did that’, and so, it kind of put a damper on the surrounding of dreadlocks and Jamaicans. So I became aware of the impression that we’re bad. And that was all how the song came about. It was an incident that I don’t wanna talk about -a shooting incident. Certain people did it and certain group of people did it. That was it so I decided to pen it into a song. You recorded its instrumental with Crucial? Yeah they’re the same band, Crucial. And then you called your label Gramps, why is that? Gramps was the lead singer for the group I was in back in Jamaica, Righteous Roots. His real name is David Robinson, he has a band in Milwaukee now called Road Damage. So for me to pay him tribute, I used his name, Gramps. The other recorded tune of yours I know is Black and Beautiful with King Culture. King Culture, yeah ! Someone told me about him for distribution in Canada. We spoke on the phone and we did some transaction and he distributed for me, then he proposed me to record, but I did my own production on this one too. I did another tune called Auction Block, but that didn’t go nowhere. That tune is saying that I’ve seen my stock rise and I’ve seen my stock fall cause I was a slave. And in America it seemed like I was controlled by a remote. I released it but it didn’t go nowhere. And I just did it for myself. I mean it came out but it didn’t go nowhere, I sold maybe 100 copies of it. How many copies of Impression did you press? I mean, over a thousand only. Cause it was underground, independent. Did you stop producing after that? No, I was still producing but for myself. Cause it takes money. Not time, cause I had time but I didn’t have the money. At that time when my kind of songs was coming out, people weren’t that much into the culture rasta music, they were more in the punaany business. So I kind of got stuck in mid-stream. Mid-80s was a different kind of music coming about.

Search Add 2 Sarah Lou Richards Richards was born in upstate Wisconsin, where she sang her way through grade school and eventually earned a music scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. After graduation, she headed east, landing a job teaching elementary schoolers in Connecticut. In 2007, Richards packed up her classroom and moved south, this time finding a new home in Nashville. She dove in headfirst, writing a catalog of songs inspired by mainstream artists (Miranda Lambert, Bonnie Raitt) as well as left-of-center Americana singers (Ryan Adams, Brandi Carlile, Patty Griffin). She toured heavily, too, booking her own shows and building her fanbase show by show. During breaks in her schedule, she volunteered with organizations like Musicians on Call and Girls Rock Camp Alliance. Her debut record, 2010's, Ruby Red Shoes, was produced by Henry Paul, frontman for the '90s multi-platinum country band BlackHawk. The album introduced Richards as a sharp, observational songwriter who straddled the line between country and modern pop — a distinction she continued whittling into sharp shape over the following years. By 2014, Richards' sound had won over fans like the Steeldrivers' Gary Nichols, who produced her third record, The Woman Behind the Curtain. An independent musician and savvy businesswoman, Richards funded the album via a PledgeMusic campaign, emboldening and enlarging her audience.

Search Add 2 andremustdie Andre Rodriguez A year ago, Andre Rodriguez, made a decision that changed the course of his life. He was doing the classic thing of writing music in his bedroom. andremustdie was born in a ten-by-ten room in Los Angeles, CA. In that space he writes, records, and produces all his songs. Growing up in Caracas, Venezuela, Andre couldn’t have felt further from the epicenter of music. Growing up so far away from the USA and in a country with no strong music industry presence, neither his family nor close friends had ties to the recording industry; in fact, many of them were skeptical initially about his newfound pursuit. Just releasing music and putting it out there felt like a huge accomplishment to Andre. Having a reason and a goal to wake up in the morning, is central to andremustdie’s vision and happiness. AMD thinks that the music he writes is more than melodic phrases on a beat, it’s an open book of personal experiences and thoughts for everyone to listen and hopefully to relate to.

In late 1940, in California, the Three Buckaroos took the name the Jimmy Wakely Trio, after adding Gene Autry. Dick Reinhart replaced Scotty Harrel as the third member of the trio on the movie "Melody Ranch." The Encyclopedia of Country Music says that the Bond-Wakely-Harrell trio "pulled a clever musical scam" by recording for two companies under different names: the Jimmy Wakely Trio (for Decca Records) and Johnny Bond & the Cimarron Boys (for Columbia Records).

Search Add 2 D-Town Brown Eclectic Hip Hop, Funk, Rock group from Denver, CO. Mainly active from 1994 - 1996. Shatta Mejia was the lead rapper, spokesperson and spiritual head of D-Town Brown, along with drummer Kenny Ortiz, bassist Ken Grider, guitarist Raphael Tapia and DJ Hen G [Henry Gomez]. Unlike many hip-hop acts, D-Town Brown was a real band, with performers who play original licks rather than sample snatches of music made by their predecessors. "We're fortunate to have musical diversity in the lineup. We've got a scratching DJ, a thrasher guitar player, a rocking bass player, the maddest funk drummer in town and a rapper who loves reggae, too." As one of the premier rap groups at the time, they were know for their politically charged message and socially conscious approach. They released "Tiempo Chicano" on tape in 1994, followed by the CD album release "Smotherd Dee-Lux" in 1996.

Search Add 2 Steven R. Trent Steven R Trent is a rockabilly guitar playing, roots music musician from North Canton Ohio. On a cold winter’s day in January 2011, Steve decided to form a One Man Band when he ran across a 4 dollar suitcase in a Canton Ohio thrift store and realized it made a great sounding bass drum He then built himself a “snare drum” by slapping together a homemade plywood box and attaching some vintage license plates, Throw in a couple of cheap drum pedals, and the Flat Broke One Man Band was in business. Since opening up shop in January 2011, Steven R Trent’s Flat Broke One Man Band has been tearing up stages all over Ohio and the rest of the Midwest (PA, MI, IN, WV, WI, and so on), with the fiery brand of rockabilly mayhem he’s best known for; but now fusing in more roots music, proving that he’s always had the soul of a bluesman and the heart of a country western troubadour. With original songs like Truck Stop Gravy, and the Ghost of a Cheater, as well an extensive catalog of his own souped up versions of rockabilly, country western, and juke joint standards and obscurities; SRT’s live shows are always a foot stomping good time.

This unique and utterly delightful group specializes in performing those witty catches and rounds that range innocently through English music from the 17th through the 18th centuries. To the select music lover, the private appearances of the The New York Catch Club are a gaily spiced recall to the lustily elegant humor of the English Restoration."
