Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 24/10/2024

Found 596840 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 2 Captain Yabaa Azongo Nyaaba Captain Yaba was the professional name of Azongo Nyaaba, who was born and raised in the dry grasslands of the far north of Ghana. He was four or five years old when he started playing the koliko (also known as the molo), an ancestor of the banjo. [a437657] of the internationally famous band [a101784] brought Nyaaba to the Ghanaian capital, Accra, and there he began performing with various groups and as a soloist under the name Captain Yaba. In 1994 he recorded his second album of traditional Fra Fra songs, this one with a modern funk band called Ninkribi, and that raised sufficient interest abroad for Captain Yaba & Ninkribi to tour Europe. After returning to Ghana, Captain Yaba continued to perform on his own and in groups, but in 2001 he died of tuberculosis at barely past the age of 30. Two years later [l132130] reissued the Captain Yaba-Ninkribi album, duplicating five of the tracks in their rough and even funkier mixes. Sleeve notes on "Yaba Funk Roots" CD album/compilation by: John Collins In his short musical career Captain Yaba captivated listeners with his two-string gourd guitar grooves, and especially with the track Yaba Funk. He makes his instrument, the koliko (aka molo or xalam) sound like the root of all funk. Captain Yaba was a Fra Fra from the northern Ghana town of Bolgatanga where the country and the culture have more in common with Sahelian neighbours than the central and coastal regions where highlife rules. Yaba Funk Roots is a reissue of his 1996 album Tinanure, produced by [a320022], the celebrated Sierra Leonean percussionist. Unfortunately Yaba died soon after that CD’s release. This [l132130] reissue has been augmented with five tracks from the original Ghana sessions, which retain the vital edge of griot funk at which Yaba excelled. Call them premix, call them de-mix, these tracks bring added delight to a type of African music which is rarely heard in the West.

Search Add 2 Planet Telex Planet Telex's roots come from another band (Trevor Kohlman Band) and recording project (Loco Honey). In 2008, during the downtime in recording, guitarist/vocalist Tyson Wiebe and long-time friend/bassist/producer Quinton Viskup decided to record a few of Tyson's songs. That project eventually became Planet Telex; and their debut album, Nova. After a few false starts, Planet Telex finally found a steady line-up with the incorporation of guitarist Eric Amundsen and drummer Mickey Hayward. Planet Telex will be releasing their new EP, Wednesday, in summer of 2012. A new full length album is expected in 2013. So, essentially, a bunch of dudes made some tunes, played some shows and continued to do so. Could have saved yourself some time.

Our project consists of two musicians from completely different worlds of music: one of us has a secondary music education and vast experience of stage performances and is currently on tour with the orchestra; He - the second bass. His world - classical music. The second party has no musical education, but took part in many musical groups, mostly playing heavy music of different directions. His instrument - classic guitar, electric guitar and bass guitar. It is his world - a dark and heavy music. We are working in such genres as: electronic, experimental, dark ambient, modern classical, dark wave, drone, etc.We are a young but very ambitious musical project.Slowly but surely we conquer our audience, among fans of dark atmospheric music. We have just started, but the potential we have a huge, and the desire to make quality atmospheric music - more than enough.

Search Add 2 The 75s The 75s were a power pop trio from St. Louis. Scott Lasser and Laurel Mydock, former bandmates in the short-lived garage band The Downcasts, established The 75s in late 2006. Mydock and Lasser practiced on their own for a couple of months, all the while searching for a female bass player who would be willing to sing backup and lead when needed. After placing several online ads, they were finally contacted via Myspace by Morgan Nusbaum, formerly of the St. Louis space/funk/punk collective Galaxy Rock Meats William. The 75s broke up very quietly in June 2010, not too long after they played their final show at the Record Bar in Kansas City. In September 2011, they were named "Best Band To Die in the Past 12 Months" by the RFT. Nusbaum formed [a3606831] with drummer [a915563] of [a2794289] shortly before The 75s split up. Mydock and Lasser went on to form Thee Have Loves with former Downcasts bandmate [a5498522] in 2012.

Search Add 2 The Dominican Jazz Project The Dominican Jazz Project began when Dominican born jazz artist, Guillo Carias, invited American jazz pianist, Stephen Anderson, to perform with him and local players for the 2014 Jazzomania Jazz Festival in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, that was hosted by Tony Dominguez and Carlos Francisco Elías. The concert and associated clinic went beautifully, and the drummer, Guy Frómeta, invited Anderson to return to Santo Domingo to perform with him in his group for the Casa de Teatro Jazz Festival a few months later. It was there that Anderson met Sandy Gabriel, tenor saxophonist. Their collective friendship grew further with that experience, and following the festival, they agreed to record together. The result was their 2016 self titled CD release, The Dominican Jazz Project, that was recorded in the days following the UNC Summer Jazz Workshop where the artists served as guest faculty and where Anderson serves as director. The recording represented Summit Records on the ballots of the 17th Annual Latin Grammy Awards as well as on the ballots of the 59th Grammy Awards. It was listed in Ken Frackling's "2016's Best Latin/Brazilian jazz recordings," was decribed as being "full of creative energy and the joy of musical discovery" by Mark Sullivan at All About Jazz, and the band was called a "national pride" at the 2019 Dominican Republic Jazz Festival. Since 2014, the DJP has performed at numerous festivals in the Dominican Republic and has toured performing at universities and jazz clubs across the United States. What intrigued Anderson when he first visited the Dominican Republic is that while Dominican musicians are very much at home playing Afro-Cuban/clave-based music, their traditional music also has a variety of other lesser known grooves that are not commonly played in Latin jazz today outside of the Dominican Republic. And while the Dominican piano tumbao patterns sound similar to Cuban montuno patterns, they are constructed differently harmonically and rhythmically. Anderson was also surprised that these Dominican were so interested in modern American jazz, and that Sandy Gabriel’s compositions, in some ways, were very similar to the aesthetic that he had been developing in the Stephen Anderson Trio recordings in recent years. Sandy is an entirely self-taught saxophonist, having no formal training. When asked how he learned to play so well, Sandy relayed that he learned from transcribing Michael Brecker solos, responding affirmably, “He was the best.” After returning home, Anderson spent several months deeply researching Dominican music, transcribing various piano tumbao patterns, as well as other traditional grooves, like the Mangulina, Pambiche, Ga-Ga, and the Palo. Based on these and other grooves, he composed five new charts for the project, and Sandy Gabriel, Guillo Carias, and Carlos Luis contributed the other six compositions found on the recording. The Dominican Jazz Project CD, Desde Lejos, was recorded remotely during the 2020-21 pandemic with members of the band living in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and North and South Carolina. The longtime bassist for the DJP, Jeffry Eckels, passed away unexpectedly July 3, 2020 right as the band was preparing to record. The band experienced hospitalization or death of close family members during the pandemic, and the recording demonstrates how the group worked together (from "far away") daily using different home or professional studios to produce a new CD during that challenging time.

Search Add 2 The Insane Slave The Insane Slave is a rock band from Oporto city (Portugal) formed in 2008. Characterized by an original sound and a “rockipolar” personality, they’re inspired by an entire musical universe and settle their vital pillars on the “rock n'rollesque” philosophy. After hitting the road in 2010 setting foot on several stages and winning a considerable number of garage band contests, in 2011 they released their first record, "The Night Rider EP", which earned them appreciable reviews by the national and international press, as well as a tour from North to South of the country, and the first incursion beyond borders, in the cities of London and Northampton in England. February 2018 marks the return of The Insane Slave with the release of their first "Long Play". The homonymous album recorded in the studios of Raising Legends and produced by André Matos, was conceived with a conceptual theme, where along the 10 tracks that compose the album the story of Jack (the insane slave) uncurls as if it were a book. The Insane Slave are: Freddie on Drums, André on Bass, Alex on Guitar and César on Guitar and Voice.
