Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 10/01/2024

Found 593861 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 5 Simon Sheldon A £100 inheritance spent on a Korg mono synth at the age of 10, followed by the purchase of an Atari ST a few years later sowed the seeds of a life long desire to create music with electronic roots. Simon’s first job after leaving school was making tea alongside being trainee tape op in OMD's studio, the Pink Museum in his home town Liverpool. Moving away from Liverpool to study Fine Art was when he met like minded revelers, musicians and music lovers. Late night jamming with psychedelic spacers EGG and listening to anything and everything alongside clubbing all weekend set the foundation for a passion for creating music. On arriving to his now home town Belfast, Simon started writing, performing and releasing as Solaris before forming drum'n'bass outfit Spree. Spree went on to release many tracks on labels such as Aspect records, Formation, NIR amongst others while also being a prolific live act. Spree headlined events across Europe, Asia and the U S A, as well as playing the highly regarded Jazz World Stage at Glastonbury alongside acts such as Amy Winehouse, Michael Franti, and the Quantic Soul Orchestra. Spree live received greater acclaim when voted by the public in the last three of the Best Live act category of the Knowledge Magazine Awards, up against London Elektricity and I Kamanchi. As a side project Simon joined forces with Paul Brown (Bedlam) and Robin (Touched and Crazy) to produce dub reggae and also performed a live set supporting the Legendary Lee "Scratch " Perry and also collaboratated with Irish nu-jazz maestro’s Belcrash. Most recently, working on a house tip with Quentin Kane, Simon and Quentin have plays and praise from house dons such as DJ Spen to Dave Clarke and Studio 54 resident Kenny Carpenter to Detroit legend James Pennington. With releases backing up and a new live show on the horizon I think we may be seeing a bit more of Quentin and Simon.

Search Add 5 Братья Покрасс Pokrass brothers (братья Покрасс) were a duo of Soviet composers Dmitry (1899–1978) and Daniel Pokrass (1905–1954), who composed various popular romances and military songs, including famous marches Red Army Is The Strongest (Красная Армия всех сильней) and Budyonny March (Марш Будённого), as well as the music for numerous feature and documentary films. They were one of the originators of the revolutionary aesthetics in Soviet music, and while critics later saw many of their works as propagandist "poster-songs" and denounced them for blatant obsequiousness to the communist regime, at the time Pokrass tunes were broadly popular all across the Soviet Union. Dmitry and Daniel praised Soviet military leaders and politicians in their songs, namely [a=Joseph Stalin], Kliment Voroshilov, and Semyon Budyonny. In the sixties, some of their songs were censored to remove any mentions of Stalin. Dmitry and Daniel were only two of the four Pokrass siblings active in music. The eldest brother Samuel Pokrass (1897–1939) immigrated to the United States in the end of the twenties and had a fairly successful career as Hollywood and Broadway composer. Sam Pokrass was poisoned in New York in 1939. Arkady Pokrass (1898–196?) was a virtuoso pianist and accompanist for various popular artists, including Natalia Tamara (Mitina-Buynitskaya) and Vadim Kozin. Unlike his more opportunistic brothers, Arkady didn't manage to adapt to the new ideological realities of the Soviet Union. After Kozin was arrested and sent to Kolyma in 1939, Arkady Pokrass abruptly ended his career and not much is known about him ever since. In Soviet musicological literature, the names of Arkady and Samuel were practically erased, so Pokrass brothers were seen as a duo of Dmitry and Daniel.

Search Add 5 Restless Children Restless Children Floris A. Brown’s normal work is getting children to see things come into shape under their hands. He teaches handwork. Off duty he loves to see something much less tangible come to shape – sounds. He leads Cape Town’s septet he christened Restless Children and writes most of their music. First there was the shaping of Floris A. Brown, musician. Born nearly 26 years ago, he inherited his love of music from his father, who gave him his first lessons in theory. Then he studied music while training as a teacher at the Hewat Training College in Athlone. Not satisfied with this, he studied composition through the International Songwriter’s Association. Then there was the shaping of the Restless Children. The group started off in 1966 as Romeo Five with Brown on rhythm guitar. A restless group this, what with the many changes in personnel. In a way they have found rest now. They no longer have personnel problems. There’s the 23-year-old Andrew Wilson on lead guitar and vocals. He first teamed up with choir, Junior Merry Melodies. Ther’s Dyrell Bailey, 26, who plays additional lead guitar, mouth organ and sax. Started his career as a jazz musician, but later switched to pop. Another ex-jazzman is Mattheun Appolis, 24, who playes bass guitar. There are the two other teachers, Greg Smith, 22, piano-keyboards and John Brown, 24, drums and trumpet. John teaches art. The two teachers also studied music at Hewat Training College. Then there is the lead vocalist, who also playes congas and tambourine, Deon Kleinhans, nearly 23. He was also a member of the Junior Merry Melodies. After their first big show in Worcester in August 1970, the septet have not looked back. Travelling in their own 15 seater bus, they have played all the major centers in the Cape. The other provinces? They have sent forerunners by way of a 7-single they released last October, “Until Tomorrow” and are now busy working on another 7-single “Try Not To Play The Fool.” “These boys are very good indeed.” The words came from TRUTONE record producer Laurence Koonin – and he was talking about Restless Children, in the studio to record their first LP ( longplaying record). Restless Children are something of a enigma. They are all country boys intent on taking over the city music scene. Their home town is Worcester – and they have played in just every country town in the Western Cape – as well as a very successful tour of South West Africa ( Namibia ). Now, with two high selling singles behind them, the group are working on their first long player. So far it hasn’t been given a name. Composer for the group is the pianist Floris Brown – and most of the numbers on the new record will be by him. RESTLESS CHILDREN was the first and only “so called Coulored” group in the Western Cape during the Apartheid years, who received a GOLD DISC for the two singles “UNTIL TOMORROW & TRY NOT TO PLAY THE FOOL” composed by Floris Brown to exceed in the selling of more than 25 000 copies in South-Africa.

Search Add 5 Nilg Nilg was formed in 1991 in the soft area of Cologne. Coming from role models in Psychedelic Rock and Krautrock (especially Can, Queen, Herb Alpert), they have incorporated a whole range of influences into their playing over the years, from jazz and dub to electronic music to different types of so-called "ethnic" music (Stockhausen, Kuti, Gainsbourg etc.). This stylistic hodgepodge forms the fundus of musical forms that are repeatedly recombined in rhythmic improvisations, sound collages and the occasional song. That can be summed up as follows: "electronic music - hand-played" - not in the sense of the wax figure-like perfection of many post-rock bands, but as self-organizing, grooving chaos.

Search Add 5 Pitt Linder Wolfgang E. Linder Swiss musician, recording engineer, radio-host, PA-builder etc. from Basel. Wolfgang E. (Pitt) Linder was born in Bern on 8 April 1924. Studied violin and clarinet at the Bern Music Conservatory, before discovering the tenor saxophone and American jazz which he helped introduce to Switzerland through orchestras and bands. He started out to play in some local Basel Jazz combos together with his brother Albert Linder in the early 50s. His first Rock & Roll record (Heartbreak Hotel b/w Minor Rock by Die Rock & Rollers) came out as a vinyl 45 back in ca. 1956/1957 on Tell Records. By 1957 he would become a recording artist for Grammoclub Ex Libris. From 1957 on until ca. into the early 1970's Big Pitt Linder would also be hosting his own weekly radio show on the national Swiss Basel Radio, where he would usually play some music by his own bands, mixed with lots of music by other bands. He used to record and a t times conducted hundreds of records for Ex Libris, and some other labels. Those records were usually recorded at Landgasthof Riehen (Basel), or at Radio DRS, Basel. His firm Linder Electronics, Basel, installed sound systems in discos, auditoriums and concert halls. The PA-system from the first Swiss Rolling Stones concert in Zürich was built by Pitt Linder. His undertaking used to be called "Linder Electronics" back then. Linder Electronics existed from the early 60s until around the mid '80s. Pitt Linder used to build the PA's for most of the local Basel Beat-bands from the 60s in order so that they could play in bigger venues. By the mid-60s virtually nobody would remember him as an old Jazz, and Rock & Roll musician anymore, but he built the PA system for the Montreux Jazz Festival. Later on towards the late 80s he moved to New Jersey, USA, to become a famous recording engineer (for mostly classical music) in New York City. He designed and installed the sound and light system for the Swiss Pavilion for the World Expo in Tsukuba Japan (1985). The last 14 years of his life were spent in Victoria BC Canada where he enjoyed hiking and the renowned classical and jazz community. He was a friend to the Victoria Conservatory of Music, who established a Pitt Linder Memorial Fund for young musicians after his death at the age of 94 on 1 December 2018.

Search Add 5 Croskill Brazilian Heavy Metal Band. Croskill is a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in 1989 and was active until 1998. During the years of activity the band recorded two songs on the compilation Whiplash Attack Vol. 1 and an album entitled Escape into Fantasies, considered the first heavy metal concept album in Brazil, released on vinyl in 1991 by the Rock Brigade Records label. Croskill's music during this period reveals striking nuances and rhythmic variations, showing the musical and timeless quality of his work. Bringing influences ranging from 80's heavy metal to 70's progressive rock. Easily identifiable, its sound immediately takes us to the contemporaneity of these musical styles. In 2013, the band got together for a single performance at the renowned Festival DoSol in Natal, in the Northeast of Brazil. This show ended up making the founding members Eri Soares (bass) and Jucian Lima (vocals and drums) feel the impetus to return to activities that ended early. After a few years, more specifically in 2021, during the period of the covid pandemic, the two teamed up again and started composing new songs. This work brings a more avant-garde approach than the music practiced previously, thus presenting a natural maturation in his work, already rich in details and with very elaborate lyrics, a characteristic that is also remarkable in his work. Currently Croskill has Jucian Lima (vocals and drums), Eri Soares (bass), Karim Serri (guitar) and Denilton Falcão (guitar), and is preparing to release new material in 2023, songs with a current footprint , mixing new trends like psychedelic space rock and stoner rock to their progressive metal. Check out Croskill's unique and original work and stay tuned for new releases coming soon and see Croskill at the forefront of Brazilian metal.

Search Add 5 Toebow Toebow was born in Brooklyn in 2013 as a duo, evolving and expanding over the years into a formidable 5-piece band. Described by one reviewer as “a nice dose of shapeshifting, complex art pop” (Brooklyn Vegan), the music of Toebow shimmers with fluttering distorted guitar lines, colorfully layered percussion and bass, tight vocal harmonies, lush synth lines, and the occasional drum machine to tie the gentle chaos neatly together. Wacky by nature but severe in execution, Toebow "artfully straddles the border between sincerity and goofiness” (ThrdCoast) yet their songs often confront the more stoic and somber realms of experience.

----- Ver: http://rockchapin.org/index.php/45-grupos/la-tona/697-la-tona
