Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 10/01/2024

Found 593861 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 9 One Thousand Pilots Harsh Noise and industrial drone project by spanish artist Alejandro Remeseiro. In his own words One Thousand Pilots is: Harsh Noise, industrial, landscapes, sometimes drones. One Thousand Pilots was discovered in 1997 while I was walking over an isolated place near Semipalatinsk (Kazhakstan): This place was formerly a huge "nuclear test field" during the soviet era, now full of isolated, tumbledown buildings, and towers in the middle of the steppe. Some inhabitants of the cities near to the zone, tell me about that there, in the isolated test fields, and during the last 30 years people have listened legends about the "The thousand pilots", a supposed kind of group or subhuman society living hidden and secretly in the underground and that got the ability to produce dreadful and frightening "sounds" to communicate, just using amplification of their contaminated throats...and brains. Near Semipalatinsk, in a isolated building, I found some reel tapes with just one label in the case "One Thousand Pilots". I can't say much more about this...

Search Add 9 "Killer Joe" Piro Frank Piro Frank "Killer Joe" Piro (2 March 1921 - 5 February 1989) was a dance instructor to high society and popularized steps of the discotheque era of the 1960s and 1970s. In the early fifties, he opened his own studio on 54 West 55th Street in Manhattan, where many in New York's high society came to take dance lessons. Over the decades he taught what would become the mainstays of the discothèque scene: the Mambo, the Cha-cha and the Merengue, then the Twist and later the Frug, the Frog, the Watusi, and the Hully Gully. His students included the Duke of Windsor, Sita Devi Gaekwar - Maharani of Baroda, Dame Margot Fonteyn, Ray Bolger, Luci Baines Johnson, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and, by 1965, more than a million other Americans via the Emmy award-winning TV show 'That Was the Week That Was.' His fame somehow spread far enough to be photographed by Richard Avedon and to inspire a Filipino guitar band, the Rocky Fellers, to record a tribute tune, "Killer Joe," for Scepter Records in 1963. The record earned the band a spot on the Top 40 pop charts for a few weeks, though it bears more than a passing similarity to the Mickey & Sylvia hit, "Love is Strange." Despite being the undisputed "King of the Discotheque," Piro never opened his own club. Asked why, he replied, "I like things the way they are. I don't want to be watching a cash register, watching the waiters - it would take all the beauty of dancing away from me and I would get old."

Search Add 9 The Northern Illinois University Jazz Ensemble NIU Jazz Ensemble is a [l=Northern Illinois University] orchestra established in 1969 by [a=Ron Modell], which has long been considered one of the best college jazz bands in the world. The Orchestra participated in many international festivals and performed with such artists as [a=Dizzy Gillespie], [a=Louis Bellson], [a=Clark Terry], [a=Tito Puente] and [a=James Moody]. Not to be confused with [a=NIU Jazz Lab Band]. When Modell was assigned to create a jazz program at the University from scratch, he already had some experience: before joining the NIU, he successfully established a stage band at [l=Southern Methodist University] in Texas. NIU Jazz Ensemble played the first concert in October 1969, only six weeks after the launch. Under the talented leadership and with a strong cast of musicians, the orchestra quickly rose to the national fame. In the summer of 1977, NIU Jazz Ensemble joined Dizzy Gillespie as the featured performers at the annual conference of the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) at Dallas. In 1983, PBS aired a documentary called A Year in the Life of the Greatest College Jazz Band in America about the orchestra, which won two Chicago Emmy awards. NIU Jazz Ensemble traveled to Europe that summer and appeared at the famous Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The live recording of that concert was released in 1984. The ensemble performed at the 54th annual Midwest Music Clinic in Chicago with saxophonist [a=Jimmy Heath] as the guest artist, and at the 28th annual IAJE Conference in New York with trumpeter [a=Wynton Marsalis]. In the summer of 1996, the NIU Jazz Orchestra returned to the Montreux Jazz Festival as [a=Quincy Jones] big band with guest artists [a=Phil Collins], [a=Patti Austin], [a=David Sanborn], [a=Gerald Albright], [a=Chaka Kahn], and [a=James Morrison].

Search Add 9 Greedy Edna Greedy Edna is from the small town of Greenfield MA. Chad, Enoch and Dan attended Tuners Falls High together. Enoch and Chad had found each other in the local band NCD where Chad played bass guitar. Chad and Enoch found themselves going in a different direction then the other members of that band. The two split of and joined up with other local players in a band called Symposium. they then found Fat Nellie on the drums. That band had a two year stint on the local scene and gained a modest local following. But soon after Chad and Enoch found themselves going yet another direction and formed the band Greedy Edna. For the first six months of the bands existence they went through many line-up changes, going through almost all of the local drum and bass players. Finally and ironically the two decided to call upon Fat Nellie (Symposium's old drummer). It was a perfect fit. And also around the same Enoch had met his old friend from high school (Dan Hescock) in a parking lot and remembered he had been an accomplished bass player. Dan soon after tried out for the band and once again clicked....... Greedy Edna was formed....... The band immediately started working on songs Chad and Enoch had been writing in the meantime and came out with its first demo in '96. It's six songs grabbed the attention of all the local kids and people started coming out in droves to see this new band. The new metal wave had not yet sunk its teeth into the area yet and this was a new sound for everyone. Greedy Edna began to spread from its local area and use New England itself to call home. After four years on the scene Greedy Edna has made a presence in area music. Being featured on radio stations such as 106.9 WCCC (if you saw the Howard Stern movie its the station he's at when in Hartford) and 99.3 WHMP. Also being looked at by many Independent and Major record labels. Greedy is constantly recording and producing new material. For its four years they have 3 full length albums, and another one on the way. So here they are, present day....
