Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 29/07/2025
Found 602638 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.
The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.
These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.
Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.
Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.
There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.
One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report
We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.
Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?
Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

With heart and soul, every concert they play is a communion with the life force and the audience. Based in Mallorca/Spain, The Jay Kaye Band was formed in 1989 by St. Louis (Missouri) born Jay Kaye, son of guitar legend Mary Kaye. "Everything I Touch (Becomes The Blues)" was recorded in 1996 with Toby "Tobiwonkanobe" Taylor on the drum throne and Mallorquin bassist Jaume Amengual "Jimmy Slick" Torres. Although the line up has changed throughout the years Jay's song writing and musical energy remain constant. During the summer of 2001 Jay teamed up with Brahm Heidl, not only for his powerful bass playing, but also as song collaborator and producer. The live acoustic recording was produced in 2002 with Diego Ferral on drums "Live & Unplugged". Shortly after that Toby re-joined Jay & Brahm to complete the triangle and "the big turnaround" was recorded and completed in 2005. Jay die on february 10th 2015 |

Search | Add | 4 | The boom boom booms | The Boom Boom Booms are a band who are bravely fighting against the multi-format/multi-platform and multi genre internet led music business, by embracing the purity and innocence of rock ‘n roll. Unlike some bands, they are not simply entertaining crowds with a bunch of fifties covers. Instead, they have written, performed and recorded a set of original songs with the verve, energy and jump of that original rock ‘n roll attitude.

Search | Add | 4 | Fred Mauck | Label owner and studio engineer. Fredrick R. Mauck was born April 24, 1913, in Yetter, Iowa. He was active as a clarinetist in the Boone (Iowa) High School band as well as a member of the school’s orchestra and chamber orchestra. By 1932, he was also a student director for the school orchestra. Throughout the 1930s, he “…traveled the Midwest with the Freddie Mauck Orchestra,” according to his obituary in the 'Quad City Times'. The band is reported to have traveled a territory ranging from Iowa to the Canadian Border, and south through Kansas. The Freddie Mauck Orchestra is reported to have disbanded on December 31, 1936. From 1939 until the time of his retirement, Fred is frequently listed as a film projectionist at venues like The Paradise Theatre in Moline, Illinois (1939 into the 1940s), The Roxy Theatre in Moline (around 1945 to at least 1955) and The Spruce Hills Twin Theater in Bettendorf, Iowa (around 1977-1979). By 1949, Fred and his first wife, Mayphine, resided at a Moline address shared with a transcription recording business known as [l1859176]. It’s presumed that this business, which produced program content for local radio stations and rehearsal recordings for nearby dance studios, was the genesis of [l247100] Records. Fred’s marriage to Lois Hansen in 1951 inspired the name of the Fredlo label, resulting from a contraction of the names Fred and Lois. The studio relocated from Moline across the river to Davenport, Iowa, around 1956, with the Maucks living on the second floor above the recording facility. After shutting down the studio in 1976, Fred spent two more years as a projectionist before retiring with his wife to the community of Grand Marais, Minnesota, where he passed away March 11, 1995.

Search | Add | 4 | David Roof | David Roof | As with many engineers, founder/engineer David Roof's fascination with sound came in high school while discovering music from the Beatles to Wynton Marsalis. The range of sounds coming out in the 1980s as he was growing up was amazing. The Beatles "Recording Sessions" book came out teasing what was possible in the studio. From modest beginnings of bouncing sound back and forth between two cassette decks with a Radio Shack mixer and microphone grew over the last 30+ years to today's ever growing arsenal of ProTools and reel to reel tape. David's background includes classical training at the University of Michigan School of Music. He has been an in demand performer on bass, guitar, and more. Classical training, with thousands of hours sitting literally in the middle of a Symphony Orchestra, ears are trained and attuned to the smallest nuance of musical tone, expression and blend. Great recordings are only possible with a mental image of what great tones should sound like. With decades of performance with groups from symphony orchestras, to pop, jazz and Americana, his insight into making great bands is invaluable to coaching bands, making people comfortable and capturing the emotion of your songs. David's reputation is for an easy going, positive vibe in the studio. Fast setups and editing with techniques for coaxing the best performance with the least frustration are his hallmark. The focus is always on realizing and developing your vision of your songs and sound. Search | Add | 4 | Alice M. Moyle | Dr. Alice Marshall Moyle AM | Alice Marshall Moyle (nee Brown), was one of the seminal figures in Australian ethnomusicology and founding members of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies (AIAS). Music was ever present in the home where she was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. As a child, she was deeply impressed by her first encounter with group singing - a full-throated chorus of African women singing outdoors as they worked over tubs of washing. These memories were instrumental in guiding her towards a career in ethnomusicology, part of which included a deep commitment to the archiving of field recordings. Her family, who had originally lived in Australia, returned in 1912. While her father’s side of the family excelled in business, she chose to follow the love of music and scholarship from her mother’s side, gaining a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Melbourne in 1930 and subsequently becoming a music teacher and music critic. In 1933 she married John Murray Moyle, a multi-talented kindred spirit who was one of the finest technical journalists in his field and a pioneer in electronics and sound recording. They had two daughters, Josephine and Carolyn. Alice Moyle took part in the vigorous post-war intellectual life in Sydney and was attracted to the University of Sydney by the appointments of John Anderson, Professor of Philosophy and Donald Peart, Foundation Professor of Music. Her B.A. (Hons.) degree, completed in 1954, was on the music of ancient Greece, but her research focus on Aboriginal music developed during graduate studies. A lecture by Professor A.P. Elkin illustrated by some sound recordings of Australian Aboriginal singing from the north of Australia inspired her to follow a new direction, and analyses of some of those recordings appear in her 1957 Master’s thesis. During this time she also served as a Teaching Assistant at the newly formed Music Department at Sydney University. In 1959, the year before his death, John Moyle encouraged her to travel to the Northern Territory to make some of her own recordings, building some audio equipment especially for her. That trip, from Alice Springs to Uluru and Bagot, motivated her to begin serious study of Aboriginal music. Fortuitously, the new Canberra-based AIAS was established around this time and she, as a founding member, was able to ensure that Aboriginal music became one of its research priorities. In the early to the mid-1960’s the Institute provided financial support for her field trips to record Aboriginal music from many areas across the north of Australia. Widowed in 1960 with two daughters, she had to work especially hard, both to establish herself as a serious scholar in the new field of ethnomusicology and to manage the heavy equipment and arduous field trips. On 13 June, 1963 she began her career at the AIAS as Research Fellow, and later, Research Officer in Ethnomusicology, recording over 400 tapes and analyzing music from Cape York, the Gulf of Carpentaria, Arnhem Land, the Kimberleys and Central Australia. Her wide-ranging work has included the documentation of Aboriginal sound instruments, the history of Aboriginal music and dance through film, field recordings, archaeo-musicology, analysis, taxonomy, and the cataloguing and indexing of ethnomusicological material held in the Institute. She valued highly her relationships with Aboriginal colleagues and ensured that they received full credit for their collaborations with her. She worked especially closely with Gula Lalara, a leading performer and elder of the Anindilyakwa people of Groote Eylandt who took much time to explain the stories behind his songs and their musical complexities. Alice took many opportunities to emphasise the vital importance of the Indigenous cultural heritage material held at the AIAS to Indigenous people and to other Australians. She lamented the lack of Indigenous music teaching materials within the Australian education system, stating that appreciation of Indigenous cultures will only come by “a formidable amount of training". Alice Moyle’s research involved examining Aboriginal music within its entire performance context, including music and dance, leading her to work with scholars in other disciplines. Her exacting method of eliciting song texts involved recording a performance, then playing back each song for the singer to speak the song words. More than a dozen linguists, including Arthur Capell, Ken Hale and Geoffrey O'Grady, assisted her with phonetic transcription and translation of this large corpus of material. In conjunction with the Elizabethan Theatre Trust, she arranged for an ethnochoreologist, Elphine Allen, to document dance movements during a filming expedition to Groote Eylandt in 1969. Groote Eylandt music held a special appeal for her and one of her final projects involved working with the linguist Judith Stokes to compile a large corpus of Anindilyakwa clan song texts, recordings and notations. With characteristic modesty, Alice Moyle considered that what she wrote about Aboriginal music might well be superseded by later scholarship, but that her recordings would become more precious and significant as time passes. With this in mind, she edited material from her field tapes to produce 11 discs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music for publication by the AIAS and one for Unesco. Ever concerned with the general lack of knowledge of Australian Aboriginal music, she prepared an educational kit, gave numerous radio interviews, and wrote many articles for encyclopedias and journals. Historical recordings fascinated her; she corresponded with many scholars and organizations both within Australia and overseas in an effort to locate and to obtain copies of all known recordings that had been made of Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music. This interest in technical material and historical recordings was invaluable for developing the focus of the Sound Archive of the AIAS. Speaking from a wide knowledge of recording techniques, she was able to persuade museum staff in Melbourne and Tasmania that wax cylinder recordings, such as the W. Baldwin Spencer (1901, 1912) and Fanny Cochrane Smith (1899, 1903) collections, should be transferred to a more accessible and permanent medium. One of her most famous discoveries came in the late 1970s when she located in the British Institute of Recorded Sound the wax cylinders made by the Cambridge Expedition to the Torres Strait in 1898, which were the earliest known ethnographic recordings made in Australia, and negotiated for tape copies to be made for the AIAS. When she began work with the AIAS, she considered the possibility of further study and floated the idea with W.E.H. Stanner, who was at the time the first Executive Officer of AIAS. Monash University attracted her because of the work on Australian Aboriginal music done by its professor of music, Trevor Jones. While studying there she taught courses in non-Western music, building up a record collection of music from around the world, but concentrating on the Pacific and Australia. Her PhD, completed in 1974, is in three volumes and identifies and compares musical styles of Aboriginal music in the north of Australia, defining them in terms of the instrumental accompaniments and the textual and melodic characteristics. Alice Moyle was keenly interested in new technology as it applied to recording, analysis and retrieval. The AIAS lent up-to-date sound recording equipment for her field trips and she was always conscious of the advantages of each new machine. In the 1960s she was experimenting with electronic analysis of melodic lines, working with Ben Suchoff of Columbia University for the GRIPHOS project that classified tunes according to a standardized set of criteria. In the early 1970s she worked with Charles Seeger at UCLA, playing recordings into his specially-designed device, the melograph, which generated large scrolls of graphic representations of music. She also designed systems for computerized indexes, such as her “Computerized Index of Australian Aboriginal Song Words”, and the “Computerized Index of Aboriginal Songs: Cape York Area”. She was active in many professional organizations both nationally and internationally, ranging from the Society for Ethnomusicology to the International Council for Traditional Music, to which she was elected Honorary Member. Her work for the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives involved serving on the Cataloguing Committee and presenting papers in the UK and Hungary as well as being Editor of the Australian National Branch Newsletter of that organization. She was president of the Musicological Society of Australia from 1982 to 1983, and held offices in the local ACT Branch. Her generosity in mentoring countless students and colleagues will be remembered especially. At the ANU, the Alice Moyle Prize is awarded to an outstanding music student each year and a yearly Alice Moyle lecture is held at the annual meetings of the Australasian Sound Recordings Association. Alice Moyle became a Member of the Order of Australia – General Division on Australia Day 1977, was elected as an Honorary Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities on 4 November 1994, and received a degree of Doctor of Music (honoris causa) from the University of Sydney in 1989 and another from the University of Melbourne in 1995. A consummate diplomat, a most exacting scholar and an elegant lady with a wonderful sense of humour, she met all situations with a marvelous equanimity. One of her favourite words was “precise”, and she often recited the words of her grandfather, “Be sure of your facts and careful of your inferences”. Alice Moyle is survived by her younger sister Dorothy, her two daughters, Carolyn and Josephine and their families, and scores of friends and colleagues. |

Search | Add | 4 | Сучий Лесок | Punk band from Yekaterinburg, Russia. Search | Add | 4 | John Bult | John Bult wants to set the record straight. His one and only LP, Julie’s Sixteenth Birthday should have been his calling card to country music stardom. Instead the album has been singled out as the best of the worst – not for Bult’s singing abilities, but for its unfortunate cover art. “It still chaps me real bad,” he said. “The whole thing still makes me mad, even after all of these years.” In 1980, John Bult was playing gigs throughout his native Louisiana, when he met up with Howard Richard, an investor who liked Bult’s sound, and thought the Lake Charles crooner could hit the big time. “We went to Nashville, and had a meeting with Chet Atkins and Ray Stevens,” Bult said. “It was my chance to stick my foot in the door, but I didn’t. I was thinking about all of the things I would have to give up, like family. So I went back to Lake Charles.” Instead of giving up on the dream, Richard convinced Bult to record his music. So he paid for some studio time, and enlisted the help of Teddy Broussard to produce an album. But according to Bult, Broussard wanted a more hands-on involvement in the project—including the art concept of the album cover, and the selections of the songs. Broussard was himself a songwriter who had worked in Nashville, but he never achieved any notable success. With an eager, but admittedly naïve singer, he saw his opportunity to further his own dreams. “I guess the first mistake I made was not signing a contract with him,” Bult admitted. “When I was 19, I was under contract with the Temple Brothers in Fort Worth, with Soundtrack-Chevelle records. They had me record a bunch of crazy songs that weren’t country. They were never released. I didn’t want to sing anything but country, so I talked to an attorney, and he told me if I didn’t like what was going on, to leave, and go about my business. So I decided I would never sign another recording contract again.” Recorded at Master-Trak Sounds (in Crowley, LA), Bult, Broussard, and a half a dozen studio musicians and backing vocalists quickly recorded ten songs for his debut—five written by Broussard, including “Julie’s Sixteenth Birthday.” “Julie’s Sixteenth Birthday” tells the story of Jim, a guy who hangs out in bars, and enjoys a drink, or two, a little more than he should. He tells his friend Lou that he can’t stay at the bar long tonight, because his daughter Julie is turning 16 that very day, and going out on her first date. But Jim loses track of time, (and the number of beers he’s had), and proceeds to get behind the wheel of his car, where he hopes to speed back in time to see Julie off on her big night. As he reaches for a bottle of booze under the seat, he slams into an oncoming car. In the hospital, Jim learns that a young man was injured, and a teenaged girl died. Nobody sees the twist at the end of the song coming. “I said, ‘Lou, should I pass on, before she comes in, be sure and tell Julie how sorry I am for spoiling her birthday.” “He said ‘Jim, save your breath, because when you meet her in heaven, you can tell her yourself.’” After the recording, Broussard decided to title the album after his ode to paternal vehicular manslaughter. Bult says he was never consulted. We took a picture of me and my guitar, which I thought was going to be the cover,” he said. “But Ted met this girl at a restaurant, and asked her parents if he could use their daughter on the front of my album. The cover, shot at Pat O’Carroll’s Restaurant, in Lake Charles, shows Bult, sitting at a table, holding his wedding ring-adorned hand, with Kim Whitehead, a 16-year old, from Lake Charles. A half consumed beer is placed next to an ashtray, on a stained tablecloth. Behind them is a propped-up guitar, next to a piano. What was supposed to look like a living room, in a family home, looked more like a honky-tonk. “During the photo shoot, Ted kept telling her to look serious, like her dad is talking to her,” Bult said. “But she just kept looking sad to me.” When the final album was pressed, and Bult saw the finished product, he was livid. “I told him I didn’t like the look of it, one bit. Instead of looking like a dad and his daughter, it looks like some guy trying to pick up a chick in a bar. Nobody is going to know that is supposed to be Julie. I didn’t like it one bit.” To make matters worse, Bult provided Broussard with a biography for the liner notes, but instead of using the information, Broussard decided to fabricate the singer’s credentials—including a story of discovering Bult in shopping mall lounge. “That isn’t true—not at all. I’ve been performing for years. I played with Roy Head when I was 19 at Randy’s Rodeo, in San Antonio, and been on the Louisiana Hayride, before I even met Ted Broussard." An estimated 250 copies were pressed (DSR 4981), and Bult went on performing, almost forgetting about his debut recording. Then came the Internet. Sometime around 2003, a blogger stumbled upon the record, and dubbed it the worst album cover…ever. The trend to vilify the front cover art of LPs took off, with books by Nick DiFonzo (Worst Albums Cover Ever and Seriously Bad Album Covers) and websites Bizarre Records, LP Cover Lover, and Cover Browser, ranking Julie’s Sixteenth Birthday, and its questionable photograph, at the top of almost every “worst” list. The unique adulation for his 1980 album caught Bult completely off guard. “My sister-in-law was in Washington D.C., and she called me, and told me look it up, I couldn’t believe it.” On May 17, 2011, Ellen DeGeneres spotlighted the record on the Bad Album Covers segment of her daytime show. “When I saw that, I got chapped all over again. I e-mailed her, or whoever her handlers are, and I explained it all to them. I didn’t hear back from anyone.” Unbeknownst to Bult, in 1985, Ted Broussard re-released the album (Ra Chelle 12483 – minus the fabricated liner notes), and released a single of “Julie’s Sixteenth Birthday.” “I asked a couple of attorneys and a judge about him re-releasing the album like that, and not giving me any money. They asked if he made millions of dollars on it. I said he didn’t, and that was pretty much the end of that.” The scarcity of the album, coupled with the notoriety, has made Julie’s Sixteenth Birthday a “holy grail” addition for those who collect maligned album covers - with collectors paying upwards of $100 for sealed copies. John Bult now lives in southeastern Louisiana, where he is semi-retired from performing. In 2007 he recorded a CD, but never released it. “It was some old favorites, in different styles, like country and jazz. I was going to do an on-line thing, but I just didn’t get around to it.” Ted Broussard got out of the music business, and opened up a Mexican food restaurant. Bult says he rarely sees him, but when their paths cross he manages a dig, or two, about the album art. “If that were my daughter, I wouldn’t have let her on the cover.” Attempts to locate Kim Whitehead were unsuccessful.
