Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 24/10/2024

Found 596840 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 8 Hamburger Pankoken Kapelle Until the 1950s, Pankokenkapelle was a type of bands that roamed the streets of Hamburg (Germany) and made music to solicit money from passers-by and residents. As a rule, they were quartets, sometimes also trios, which mainly played wind instruments. Most of the time the musicians wore black bowler hats, more rarely also top hats. Their fixed routes through certain parts of the city had to be officially approved. It is said that they mainly had well-known Hamburg songs in their repertoire and that some days they made people dance on the streets. The name goes back to Leberecht Pankoken, son of a clarinet player from Krempe, who came to the city around 1850 and founded (instead of a brass orchestra) the first Pankokenkapelle.

Search Add 8 Joanie Myburgh Having previously provided guest vocals for post-punk artists Phobophobes and Boab, London-based indie-pop artist Joanie Myburgh has now released her debut solo EP Neurotica via Permanent Creeps Records. A cult-favorite in the London live-scene, supporting alternative rock acts like Black Lips and The Moonlandingz, Joanie infuses the grit and punk ethos of sweaty basement rock into her glittery, glamorous orb. She enlists UK-based artist and producer Jessica Winter, known for her moody soundscapes, who lays down stabbing, ominous synths that layer the four-track project with a spell-binding, dystopian edge. Joanie's lead track "Schadenfreude" shines as the apex of the project, its wicked and rapturous composition tottering between disco decadence and haunting apocalypse. "'Schadenfreude' interrogates the sickness of the modern age," Joanie tells PAPER, "where the downfall of celebrated women is entertainment." The sickly sweet delivery of the impossibly grim is tantamount to Joanie's magic. "Kerosene," with its luxurious music video directed by Ash K Halliburton, takes on the melodramatic world of the iconic '70s film Pink Narcissus. The intoxicating result captures the "intoxication, obsession and escapism" of the homoerotic oldie. From camp anthems to nihilistic eroticism, Joanie's overt interest in first-world hedonism creates thematic anchors in the project, using pop culture as kitschy, ironic breadcrumbs for contemplation. Her biting commentary, satirical edge and catchy lyricism push the strobe-lit dance songs and glossy production into exciting territory.

Von Hornbostel Erich Moritz von Hornbostel Erich M. von Hornbostel (February 25, 1877, Vienna, Austria — November 28, 1935, Cambridge, UK) was an Austrian ethnomusicologist and sound recording pioneer. Hornbostel studied the piano, harmony and counterpoint as a child; later physics and philosophy in Vienna and Heidelberg, but his PhD at the University of Vienna was in chemistry. He moved to Berlin, where he fell under the influence of [a=Carl Stumpf] and worked with him on musical psychology and psychoacoustics. He was Stumpf's assistant at Berliner Psychologischen Institut (Berlin Psychological Institute), and when the Institute's archives became the basis for the Berliner Phonogramm-Archiv, Hornbostel became its first director in 1905. Hornbostel did notable work in the field of ethnomusicology, then usually referred to as "comparative musicology." He was a highly regarded teacher, with some of his students including American composer [a=Henry Cowell] and Polish-Canadian ethnomusicologist [a3680918]. Hornbostel specialized in African and Asian music, making many recordings and developing a system that facilitated the transcription of non-Western music from recordings to paper. He saw the musical tunings used by various cultural groups as an essential element in determining the character of their music and did a lot of work in comparing different tunings. Among other notable Hornbostel's contributions was the "Sachs–Hornbostel system" of musical instrument classification which he co-authored with [a=Curt Sachs], first published in 1914.

Search Add 8 Mason Lively Born in Victoria, Texas, but raised just outside of town in the rural community of Inez, Mason Lively grew up in a country music atmosphere. His appreciation for the genre can be traced back to his childhood. Though he enjoyed and was exposed to many types of music, he would listen to artists like Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Ray Price to name a few. Growing up, while also being influenced by Blues and Classic Rock, Mason started to take interest and study the songwriting of artists from his home state’s music scene like Robert Earl Keen, Pat Green, Hayes Carll, and many more. As a result, when he started playing guitar at age 14, Mason claims that song-writing "sort of snuck up on him" not long after that. Lively delivered his compelling debut album, “Stronger Ties” on April 6th, 2018. With a sound that’s simple yet complex, easy-feeling but gritty and weathered, inspiring yet heartbreaking. It’s no stretch to say that there’s a song for every emotion on Lively’s “Stronger Ties”. Country/Americana artist Mason Lively just released his new single “Something ‘Bout A Southern Girl”, on 10/21/20. A feel good anthem with heart and southern soul, co-produced and co-written by Wade Bowen.

The band have steadily built a strong set of contemporary, progressive songs that manage to capture and nurture the combined influences of the quartets formative years. Their forlorn gothic melodies thinly veil often uplifting undertones that never stray too far from the next hook. This is pop music for the disenchanted. Having created a buzz amongst their local scene on shows with the likes of Death Masks, The Shondes, British Sea Power and Outfit, and following on from the release of first single ‘This is where the story ends’, the band prepare to take a step up with new release ‘Transient Scenes’ on Bleeding Gold Records (Just Handshakes, Songs for Walter, Indoor Voices). Recorded over a single weekend in the bands home city of Liverpool this is the sound of a band that having found its feet is preparing to run.
