Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 10/01/2024

Found 593861 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 2 "Cherokee" Jack Hickory Born c.1929, New York, USA. Hickory gained his musical interest from his father who was a popular fiddle player in his local area. The interest in the American Indians, which led to his nickname, came from his grandfather, a Cherokee Indian who had relocated from Virginia to New York State in the late 1870s to work in the lumber mills. He subsequently taught the boy about the Cherokee life and its legends. Hickory learned guitar at the age of 13 and began performing at local venues. Between 1949 and 1951, he served in the American Forces, spending much of the time in Germany, where he regularly performed at clubs and on American Forces Network radio. After service, he continued to perform and research further the legends of the Cherokees and wrote many songs based on the facts and historical events that affected the lifestyle of his ancestors. He appeared at festivals in many States and also at major venues with top artists such as Pete Seeger. In 1983, he recorded Land Of My Fathers for the German Cattle label. It contained narrations and songs, which related the way the American Indian has been treated over the years with broken promises, ill treatment and massacres. Hickory eventually retired and apparently settled in Otsego County, New York.

Search Add 2 Scald Process Scald Process is a collaboration project between Stormfield (Fausten / Combat Recordings) and various live instrumentalists and vocalists including Luxul, Liam Noonan, Eden Grey, Joe Zeitlin, Marco Donnarumma and Mar Del Corral. Informed equally by Autechre, Basinski and Scorn, the project was borne out of dark rooms and fucked up sounds, pushing the extremes of harmonic noise but with a solid soundsystem discipline, combining string abuse, improvisation and distortion with gigantic subs and abstract technoid beat structures. The project began with Aimee Mullen and Marco Donnarumma in 2014 as Sea of Scald (later shorted to Scald) with tracks featured on Rinse FM and a couple of releases on Section 27 and Loose Lips. This evolved into Scald Process in Autumn 2016, combining a wider range of instruments like viola, violin, piano and vocals with evolving electronic techniques, and quickly snowballed into a load of new material.

His work delves into sound and harmony perception, connecting the combination of avant-garde compositional systems and their alternative use. His technique focuses on a detailed analysis of the composition’s fundamental elements, deeply exploring both the microscopic structure of sound – thanks to complex sound synthesis and manipulation machines – and that of harmony and counterpoint, drawing on 20th-century avant-garde compositional such as dodecaphony and the microtonal system.

Search Add 2 Ema Olly Emanuele Abate Ema Olly was born in 1996 in a musician family. Since he was a baby he was so crazy about music that his parents allowed him to begin to study cello when he was only 3 years old. During his growth he had the chance to be part of many ensembles and to meet a lot of different people who offered him different opportunities in the pop music world. He decided then to start playing also the electric guitar and created his first band called [a=ACE (73)] with his classmates. They recorded their first EP in 2014 and only an year later started a professional production thanks to [a=Adriano Vecchio] at AV7 Studios, who supported them in the band’s' management. They worked togheter for RAI, creating music for some TV main programs. In early 2015 Ema Olly left ACE since he wanted to focus fully in his metal side project. With this new band Burden Is Burning, where he was the main vocalist and screamer, he toured all Europe and Russia and played with the most important metalcore artists cooperating with very important agencies as Avocado Booking and The Agency. On March 2015 he started his personal new music project, inspired by 2Cellos and Lindsey Stirling but with the intent to create something new, bringing his main instrument to the first line and using all his skills to create electronic samples. On July 2015 he started to record the first EP called "Icarus" and to shoot the first videoclip of "Daily Eclipse". On December 2015 he released "Icarus".

Search Add 2 Was Nun WAS NUN is an event, a spectacle, elegant yet ambitious, meticulously planned yet open-ended. The six young men have all twelve feet planted firmly in the here and now, without losing their deep roots in the jazz tradition. The band name comes from a corner bar in Hanover where the six friends used to spend their free evenings. For the band, “Was Nun”, or “what next”, isn’t a question, but rather a defiant exclamation, where the focus is on the first and not the second word. Authenticity and passion are their lifeblood. At times it is hard to believe that there are only six band members, as the concentrated cohesive power of their music rivals that of most big bands. Search Add 2 Data Koroptev Czech-Slovak experimental music trio. They made their first public appearance in November 2019. Brought together through a commission from Bratislava’s NEXT Festival, three skilled players coming from diverse backgrounds join forces in a collaborative adventure, on a playground that could be described as an “open paradigm”. In an ever-changing flow of musical interactions, virtually any sound including the most obscure seems to be equally likely. Improvisational guitarist Ondrej Zajac creatively spices up his instrument’s possibilities with effects and electronics, while producer and film composer, Ondřej Ježek together with drummer, Václav Šafka bring life to various objects and small tabletop devices. You could call the resulting collection of tracks a truly free and unbounded experimental expression of the 21st century, bearing the form of a fluid electro-acoustic improvisation. Evocative sonic narratives are carefully knit together from surprising motifs, creating an ongoing dialogue of distinct sonic personas. Often unfinished and imperfect, more transformative than ironic, these fragments coexist next to each other informed by the rich histories of their different musical styles: from circuit-bent noise and industrial, to electronica, post rock and even blues. Sometimes an insistent machine logic arises, manifested in repetitive rhythmic loops which eventually dissolve long before they become established. Through restless exploration of unheard sonic territories, the band’s effort looks toward the future revealing a visionary potential, but at the same time keeping the listener always “in the game”, focusing on the present moment. (Text by [a=Slávo Krekovič])
