Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 28/01/2025

Found 600568 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 2 Walter De Maria Walter Joseph De Maria Born October 1, 1935, in Albany, California. He died on July 25, 2013 in Los Angeles of a stroke. Walter De Maria was an American artist, sculptor, drummer and composer. In 1957, he graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned his M.F.A. in painting two years later. De Maria and his friend, the avant-garde composer [a=La Monte Young], participated various in Happenings and theatrical productions in the San Francisco area. In 1961, he made his first wooden box sculptures. In 1963 he worked as a drummer for [a1139084] the first incarnation of Reed-Cale future group [a=The Velvet Underground]. He continued to work in wood, began his "invisible drawings", and composed music. With the support of collector Robert C. Scull, De Maria started making pieces in metal in 1965. Born October 1, 1935, in Albany, California, De Maria emerged as a leader of the Earthworks movement in 1968 when he filled the Galerie Heiner Friedrich in Munich with dirt. Earthworks and serial geometric sculpture continue to occupy De Maria in the 1970s: his Three Continent Project was completed in 1972 and the Lightning Field, one of his most accomplished work of land-art, in New Mexico was finished in 1977. He lived and worked in New York. In 2000 two of his conceptual recordings from 1964 and 1968 finally came out on a self-released CD.

Search Add 2 J. Lalah Simcoe J. Lalah Simcoe American folk singer and songwriter. Born Judy Fine February 8, 1944 in Los Angeles, California. Daughter of film composer [a3188803]. Lalah (Judy’s middle name, which she’s gone by since 1979) returned to California after the Womenfolk and has continued to write songs and occasionally perform. Over the years she also worked as an office manager, a ghostwriter and a personal counselor. During the 80’s she moved to Virginia, where she and her husband are now retired with their dog and four birds after 12 years’ ownership of the Bluegrass Grill and Bakery in Charlottesville. She has a daughter, a son and a granddaughter, all of whom are speaking to her, and like Jean plays mostly keyboard these days. Lalah is a selectively avid fiction reader, enjoys long walks with the family dog, and can teach anyone who can learn 3 chords to accompany themselves by ear on the piano. Her CD of original songs, “Lightspeed,” is a sort of autobiography beginning in the Womenfolk years. See more about Lalah on her website, www.jlalahsimcoe.com.

One of his first tracks has been registered in 2017 on his mobile – this can be considered as start of the music project. Active creation began after that and was based mainly on field recordings, experiments with musique concrete, noise and sampling. Over time, after accumulating huge amounts of materials he started to work on his laptop and edit sounds in DAW programs. Right after starting to work with music he came up with many ideas and along with the acquired experience a fruit of his work appeared – his first album named Prisoners of their own bodies. It was released by the label situated in Kołobrzeg – Plaża Zachodnia

Search Add 2 Vito Frazzi Vito Frazzi (1888–1975) was an Italian composer and music educator. He taught piano, harmony and counterpoint at the Luigi Cherubini Conservatory from 1912 until 1958. During his tenure at the Florence Conservatory, the composer established a friendship with [a=Ildebrando Pizzetti], a director of the conservatory in 1917–23, who influenced Frazzi's compositional style. Vito also taught at the [l=Accademia Musicale Chigiana] from 1936 to 1963. Some of his notable students included [a=Bruno Bartolozzi], [a=Bruno Bettinelli], [a=Valentino Bucchi], [a=Luigi Dallapiccola] and [a=Angelo Francesco Lavagnino]. Frazzi had been using an octatonic scale of alternating tones and semitones in his works extensively. He became one of the first composers to explore it and wrote two manuscripts, Scale alternate ("Alternating scales") in 1930 and I vari sistemi del linguaggio musicale ("The various systems of musical language") in 1960. Apart from symphonic, choral and chamber compositions, Vito Frazzi wrote a few operas. Re Lear, which is loosely based on [a=William Shakespeare]'s King Lear, was created in 1922–28 but not performed until the late thirties. He completed Don Chisciotte opera and wrote a libretto for it (derived from the Don Quijote by [a=Miguel de Cervantes] and [a=Miguel De Unamuno]'s Vida de Don Quijote y Sancho) between 1940 and 1950. It was premiered at the [l=Teatro Comunale Florence] on April 28, 1952. Frazzi destroyed the score of his opera L'ottava moglie di Barbablù ("Bluebeard's eighth wife") after its premiere at [l=Teatro Della Pergola] in Florence in January 1940, and the work remained unpublished.

Search Add 2 Huw Edward Jones Huw Edward Jones was born in North Wales around 1974. He started singing at the age of 4 and through the next seven years he participated in many Welsh festivals of literature and song Eisteddfod, on which he achieved many successes. An important event in his child's career was also a performance at the famous London concert hall Royal Albert Hall. Huw, with ease and mastery, performs traditional Welsh songs, supported in some songs by a female choir. Surprisingly, the boy did not continue his career and his recordings today remain, quite wrongly, musical curiosities known only to a handful of interested people.
