Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 24/10/2024
Found 596840 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.
The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.
These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.
Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.
Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.
There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.
One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report
We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.
Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?
Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search | Add | 4 | Ustad Umrao Bundoo Khan | Ustad Umrao Bundu Khan | Notes sourced from CD album 'Timeless Music from Pakistan (Ustad Umrao Bundu Khan)': "One of the most outstanding exponents of Delhi Gharana in undivided India, Umrao Bundu Khan Saheb's birth date is not clear but he is believed to have been born around 1915. He was the son and disciple of Sarangi Nawaz Ustad Bundu Khan. He received training in vocal music from his maternal uncle and legend of Delhi Gharana Ustad Chand Khan Sahib but was adept at both vocal music and Sarangi. In fact, he was one of the few musicians who was equally skilled both as a vocalist and an instrumentalist. His rendition on the sarangi reflected the nuances of Ustad Bundu Khan Saheb and his vocal performances were highly influenced by Ustad Chand Khan's style. Umrao Bundu Khan Saheb migrated to Pakistan in 1947. He was a regular performer at Akashwani in undivided India as vocalist and after moving to Pakistan was appointed the music director at Radio Pakistan. He was later invited from Karachi for the Akhil Bharatiya Khadi Pradarshini in 1954, where he gave one of his most memorable performances. He was an extremely versatile singer and was adept at khayal. thumri dadra, tarana, Qaul, kalbana. He performed in various countries and for numerous albums even in Pakistan. The glorious journey of this legend came to an end in 1970 with his demise in Karachi. His music remains immortal not just through him but the various disciples who carry his legacy forward including his sons Mazhar Umrao and Athar Umrao." |

Valeria Vlazinskaya Mjolsness was a musician, writer, and singer. She was born on July 14, 1922, in Harbin, northern China. Valeria moved with her parents to Mukden, China in 1939 when Valeria was 17. The family weathered World War II and Japanese occupation of China, enduring tough conditions and meager supplies. In due course, the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation (UNRRA) office opened, bringing post-war assistance and medical personnel (and a husband-to-be) to western China. In June, 1947, Valeria, who was working as a secretary in the UNRRA office, met Norwegian/Canadian Verdine Mjolsness, who had been a conscientious objector working in China during the war, and who was now working for UNRRA as a Superintendent of Agricultural Machinery. Verdine and Valeria were engaged just four months later, and married in Shanghai on February 8, 1948. A year later, Valeria and her parents moved with Verdine to Vancouver, Canada. Valeria grew up singing with her parents at home, and was encouraged by teachers at school. In her teens, she took her first private singing lessons. In Vancouver, she studied voice with an influential teacher and launched her professional career in music. Over the course of eight years in Vancouver and 38 years in Los Angeles, Valeria built a reputation as a song recitalist, voice coach, translator, and recording artist. A specialist in Russian repertoire, Valeria appeared in numerous solo recitals, instrumental ensembles and radio broadcasts. In addition to being an accomplished artist, Valeria wrote many translations of songs, arias and operas, and classical album liner annotation for [l654] In 1996, Valeria and Verdine moved to Bellingham, Washington to be closer to extended family. Search | Add | 4 | Marty Kapugi | Martin Kapudjija | Martin Kapugi was born in 1910 in Chicago, Illinois. There he spent most of his life, with the exception of several years when his parent took him to their native Yugoslavia. There he attended school, learning the native language, customs, and folklore. It became a real asset to him in later years pursuing his music career. After returning to the United States, he lived in West Virginia, playing the banjo and saxophone, but soon turned to the tamburitza (brac). Since then he became a major figure in Yugoslavian and ethnic music as a singer and brac and cello player. As a singer, it is difficult to describe his voice ... an effortless strong tenor that has thrilled and inspired all who have heard him. There is no better description than "Yoy!" He formed his first tamburitza orchestra in 1929, with his brothers joining him in Chicago. In his orchestra he had many outstanding musicians such as Art Milacek, Vaso Bukvich, Djoko Dokich, Mel Dokich, Matt Jursich, and Bella Balog to mention a few. He began his teaching career as the mentor of his brothers, Frank, Louis, and Adam, and he taught young tamburitzans since 1950. He did much to encourage Yugoslavian youth and to keep the tamburitza alive in America. Several currently well-known tambura players began their career as Marty's pupils. In the late 1940s and 50s, his orchestra established a nightclub known as "The Tamburitza Cafe", featuring his tamburitza orchestra. Their music included Yugoslav and other continental styles, as well as light classics. Among many distinguished guests, Tamburitza Cafe was frequently visited by members of the famous Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In the late 1950s, Marty and his tamburitzans performed weekly for a radio program over radio station WTAQ. The program was called "The Balkan Musical Caravan", and was under the direct sponsorship of the Balkan Music Company of Chicago. The announcer was the well known, international music program director, Rudy Orisek. Rudy Orisek's "International Cafe" television show featured Marty's orchestra in solo performances as well as the accompaniment for internationally renowned artists, such as Martha Schlame, Judy Henske, the well known gypsy violinist David Romaine, and many more. Marty's work is preserved in his many recordings; so numerous, in fact, that it would be difficult to list them all. He made recordings for RCA Victor, Decca, Continental, Columbia, and Zora, but his favorite company was and still is Balkan Records. Besides his own recordings, he accompanied well known Yugoslavian artists such as Vinka Ellesin (crowned 'Queen of Sevdah'), Edo Lubich, Rasha Radenkovich, Urash Seferovich, and many more. He also arranged several Yugoslav songs, among them his favorite "Nema Miga Cange", recorded on Balkan Records. Marty and his tamburitza orchestra toured the United States several times, concertizing with many famous musicians, such as the late Dave Zupkovich. The friends and fans he made during these tours still cherish his recordings. Besides being a conscientious tamburas, Marty is also, as his many affectionate friends insist, a 'regular guy'. Besides being kind, good-natured, and helpful, he belongs to several Yugoslav clubs and other organizations. He was the first tamburas in the Chicago area that joined the musicians' union, and he was a member of the defunct Chicago Tamburitza Club. Presently, besides teaching young tamburitza orchestras, Marty plays for many Yugoslav programs, dances, weddings, and picnics. Members of his group are his brother Frank Kapugi, Urosh Mamula, and Steve Makarovich. Marty Kapugi and his "Sar Planina Orchestra" have done a truly extraordinary job in bringing tamburitza music to many Americans of varied ethnic backgrounds. His work will not be forgotten for many years to come. Congratulations, Marty, on a job well done. |

Search | Add | 4 | Folklorni Ansambl "Milica Križan" | HKUD "Osijek 1862" | As an expression of necessity of cultural, music, and social activities and simultaneous feeling of affiliation to the Croatian and Central European civilization, a cultural artistic work has always been continuous, although the names were altered and activities adjusted to the contemporaneous needs. Nonetheless, it was always done with an aim to preserve a Croatian national and domestic identity, observable in the following examples: - In 1862, the establishment of the First Osijek Singing Company (FOSC); - In 1885, the FOSC is restyled as Sloga (Harmony); - In 1907, the Sloga changes its name into the Kuhač Croatian Singing and Music Company (CSMC). In the follow-up period preceding WW II, the CSMC's activities expressed a profound feeling of veneration when it comes to the Croatian music and singing, thus representing a nucleus of the Osijek citizens' general Croatian cultural endeavors. Subsequent to WW II, the CSMC´s activities ended, but a new Milica Križan Youth Cultural Artistic Company was founded on the bases of music and singing amateurism. The Milica Križan Youth Cultural-Artistic Company worked under this name till November 19, 1991, when its appellation was changed into the Osijek 1862 Croatian Cultural-Artistic Company (CCAC). From its beginnings, the Osijek 1862 CCAC cultural, artistic, and social program was directted toward the basic music an amateurism principles and organization of gatherings, education, and skilled training dedicated to the school, university, and working youth of Osijek and its suburbia, as well as to the original music and traditional folklore dances of Slavonia and other Croatian regions. The Company also directs the youth to the cultural and artistic work in their social and working environments. Faunded and guided by these principles for already the 14th decade, the Osijek 1862 CCAC contributes to these efforts by virtue of its performances and instrumentals and the flight of its songs and melodies throughout Croatia and abroad. Its voices motions, and tamburitzas merrily speak on behalf of the free bread on the table of peace. The distinguished and experienced artists, music pedagogues, numerous enthusiasts, skilled leaders and performers do this kind of work. All choreographies are based on the popular customs, original songs, and instrument playing in the Croatian folkloric areas. This necessitates a superior dancing and singing technique as well as an expressive vocalization. Thus, the Osijek 1862 CCAC has always been a welcomed quest at all domestic and foreign festivals. Numerous concerts in Croatia's cities and towns have enabled the Company to be equally praised by the experts in the traditional Croatian culture and by its large audience. On its tours in Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Sweden, FRG, USA, Canada, Luxembourg, Greece, Slovenia, France, Switzerland, Spain, Egypt, Vatican City, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, Malaysia, Mexico, India, etc., the Osijek 1862 CCAC represented a traditional Croatian folkloric art at its best, having connected a sharp contrast of different folkloric areas into an esthetic entirety, sometimes by an impulsive temperament and sometimes by a melancholic symphony of movements, sounds, shapes and colors. The Osijek 1862 CCAC is a regular guest of the Croatian radio and TV broadcasts but has also taken part in numerous radio and TV shows abroad, in Poland, Sweden, FRG, the Netherlands, USA, Egypt, etc. The Company has recorded two LP´s, two audio, and seven videotapes. Many honorary awards decorating the Company's showcase cabinets testify of the Osijek 1862 CCAC's importance to its environment. In addition to numerous prizes won in Croatia, many awards have also been conferred to the Osijek 1862 CCAC abroad. Artistically mentored by of one of the most famous Croatian and world ethnologists, choreographers, and scientists, Dr. Ivan Ivančan, the Osijek 1862 CCAC is successfully led by the artistic dancing master Damir Doležal and the artistic music master Dušan Topić, aided by the vocal instructor, Prof. Dinko Fio. Their professional, artistic, and pedagogic advices and ideas are followed by 70 members (dancers, singers, and instrumentalists) in the A group and ca. 300 active members in other (B and C) groups. Search | Add | 4 | Thunderduk | Spawned from the fertile musical grounds of Cleveland, Ohio, Thunderduk was part of a local scene that included the likes of The James Gang, Glass Harp, Bang and Dragonwyck. Their desire to play original music and their on stage antics made them one of the top draws on the club circuit in the early 70's. The combination of Phil Hilow's folk background and the versatility of Jeff Ulmicher produced a sound that included intricate rock ballads and long complicated concert pieces. The foundation of their sound lied within the Bass work of Gary Wallis who spend many hours working on the band's equipment and developing new sound techniques to enhance the band's overall presentation. Rounding out the band was Bob Turchek on Drums who was later replaced by ex-Catscradle drummer Rick Fischer. Most of the material heard on this album was played by the band on two Agency Studio live broadcasts carried by local radio station WNCR.

Search | Add | 4 | Rabbi Paysach J. Krohn | Paysach J. Krohn (born January 29, 1945) is an Orthodox Jewish rabbi, mohel (practitioner of ritual Jewish circumcision), author, and lecturer on topics related to ethics and spiritual growth. He is the author of the bestselling "Maggid" series of books for ArtScroll, inspired by the stories of Rabbi Sholom Schwadron, who was known as the "Maggid of Yerushalayim". He also authored a seminal work on bris milah (religious circumcision), also published by ArtScroll. Krohn was born in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. His father, Rabbi Avrohom Zelig Krohn, was a mohel (ritual circumcisor), of whom there were many in Brooklyn. He decided to build a practice in Queens and found a job in a hospital there. He moved his family to Kew Gardens when Paysach was seven years old. Paysach was one of the leaders of the Kew Gardens Pirchei boys choir. Krohn is a fifth-generation mohel. When his father became ill, Paysach learned this skill, in order to support his family. At age 21, he was the youngest mohel ever certified by the Brith Milah Board of New York. He has performed thousands of religious circumcisions. His ceremonies have been described "exceptionally spiritual and inspirational". Krohn's wife, Miriam, is one of the principals of Shevach High School in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, New York. Krohn is a well-known lecturer, sharing stories in the manner of a maggid and also collecting stories for his speeches and books. He also leads Jewish historical tours throughout Europe, speaking about the rich and vibrant Jewish communities that existed prior to World War II. He documented the first of these trips in his 2007 book, Traveling with the Maggid. Along with Esther Jungreis, Krohn has served as a guest speaker at the annual Shavuot retreat hosted by Gateways since 2005. In December 2004 Krohn launched the organization PaL (Phone and Learn) in the United Kingdom. A division of Partners in Torah in the U.S., PaL matches up Jews who want to learn more about their heritage with a friendly, knowledgeable tutor for up to an hour a week of Jewish study and discussion over the phone. Krohn is well known as the author of a series of "Maggid" books inspired by the stories of Rabbi Sholom Schwadron, who was known as the "Maggid of Jerusalem" for the inspirational mussar talks he gave every Friday night from 1952 to 1992 to the public at the Zikhron Moshe shtiebel in Jerusalem. Krohn met Schwadron when his father invited Schwadron to stay with them during one of his frequent fund-raising trips to America in late 1964, although Schwadron didn't know him or his family personally. Schwadron insisted on paying rent, which Krohn agreed to reluctantly. During the five months that Schwadron resided with the Krohns, a close bond formed between him and the family. When Schwadron announced that he was leaving after Passover 1965 to travel back to Israel by boat, the entire family saw him off at the pier. Then Krohn's father handed Schwadron an envelope containing all the "rent money" he had paid, as he had never intended to keep it. A few days later, Krohn's father said he missed his guest so much that he decided to greet him when his boat docked in Israel. He and his wife quickly arranged passports and flew to Israel two days before Schwadron arrived. After giving the Schwadron family time for a reunion, the Krohns appeared with their own welcome. Avrohom Zelig Krohn was diagnosed with a terminal illness after this event, and died the following year. Six months after that, the family received a letter from Schwadron saying that he was coming to America again. Schwadron became a surrogate father to Krohn's seven orphans. He showed great sensitivity towards Krohn's widow, remembering his own mother's struggles to raise her orphaned children. With Schwadron's encouragement and active input, Paysach Krohn penned the first of his popular "Maggid" books, The Maggid Speaks, published in 1987. Schwadron died before the publication of the second book in the series, Around the Maggid's Table. Subsequent titles (Along the Maggid's Journey, In the Footsteps of the Maggid, Echoes of the Maggid, Reflections of the Maggid etc.) memorialized Schwadron's influence on the overall project. As of 2012, Krohn has published eight books in the series.

Maybe it’s somewhere between worlds; a parallel dimension between Hip Hop and Jazz, glitch drums and gentle harmonies, between groaning synthesizers and warm guitar riffs; somewhere between narrowness and infinite space. Inspired by artists such as Flying Lotus and Portishead, Akere experiments and creates music that lands far away from any stereotype. The group does not force a mix of existing genres. Instead, the resulting sound feels natural and effortless. Akere makes the music they want to make, or they have to make, or simply, that they make.
