Discogs artists that do not appear to exist in MusicBrainz

Report created based on data in MusicBrainz as of 24/10/2024

Found 596840 artists, we show 1000 artists per page.

The report is not continually updated so may not reflect the current data within MusicBrainz and or Discogs databases.

These are Discogs artists not currently linked to a MusicBrainz artist, and we have been unable to find a potential link for either.

Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.

Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.

There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.

One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report

We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.

Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

Limited report to artists with at least two single artist releases for now.

Search Add 2 Jeff Talman Recognized as a pioneer in the use of resonance in art (Intuit, Oxford University), Jeff Talman has created numerous important sound installations such as those in Cathedral Square, Cologne, for the MIT Media Lab, The Kitchen, Eyebeam, St. James Cathedral, Chicago, four installations in the Bavarian Forest, and those in Finland, the Czech Republic and Italy among others. His major achievement is the decade-plus exploration of reflexive resonance, the process he developed in which ambient resonance of a site becomes an installation’s sole sound source. Talman’s work further investigates the nature of sound and other primal radiant and wave forces (light, gravity, the sea) and their effects in generating concepts of natural and architectural space, human presence, place and time. Talman was trained as a composer, but also studied visual arts as an undergraduate. He attended and eventually taught and directed orchestras at Columbia University and the City College of New York. He has been awarded major fellowships including those from the Guggenheim Foundation and the New York Foundation for the Arts. He has been working with computers and digital sound since 1984.

Search Add 2 Harold L. Paulsen February 21, 1917 – August 1, 2015 "Harold L. Paulsen, a well known insurance and investment representative, popular singer and speaker, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2015. He packed a lot into his 98 years of life. Harold joined the Army in 1941. Two years later, he was accepted to Officer Candidate School and received his commission as an Air Force Statistical Officer from Harvard School of Business Administration. He served with the 8th Air Force in England for 28 months and was discharged in December 1945 with the rank of Captain. Harold was devoted to his Lord and church. As a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he was confirmed, he led the building of the new church as the building committee chair. There he served as Sunday School Superintendent for five years, provided his musical talent and “filled” the church pulpits on several occasions in the pastor’s absence. Those who have attended the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast since it started in the early 1960’s were treated to Harold’s speaking and singing. Harold did a lot for a lot of people, but will remembered most for his terrific singing. He also sang for most of the Montana Governors during his lifetime, commencing with Governor John E. Erickson. One of his most memorable highlights was as a soloist for the 8th Air Force Glee Club in the Nuremberg Opera House in Germany at the end of WWII. He once shared the stage with the late Norman Vincent Peale." from helenafuneralhome.com

One of Australia’s best traditional jazz bands was formed in Brisbane in 1973 by saxophonist Andy Jenner (b. 12 July 1943, Cheshire, England). In March 1974 the band formed the Vintage Jazz Society of Brisbane and operated successfully at the Twelfth Night Theatre Club for six years. In 1981 the band opened their own jazz club, Jabbo’s, in Brisbane. The Vintage Jazz And Blues Band’s success peaked in the mid-80s when the essential line-up was Tich Bray (b. 22 December 1924, Geelong, Victoria, Australia, d. 1988) who replaced Jenner, John Braben, Mike Hawthorne, Bob Watson (drums), John Cox (banjo), and Paula Cox (vocals). The Vintage Jazz And Blues Band was one of Australia’s most durable groups in the traditional jazz genre. Performing classic early jazz and blues with feeling and authenticity, it was never less than inspiring and was often dynamic

Search Add 2 John Koviak Emerging from the Southern California alternative music scene in the late 1980's, John started out as a guitarist/bassist before unfulfilling band experiences (with London After Midnight, for instance) eventually prompted him to try and create music on his own. John's first solo project Sub Version was born. Taking on the tasks of songwriting, lyrics/vocals, instruments, programming, and production entirely on his own John successfully completed three releases: Metamorphosis (1992), Damaged Gods (1994), and The Winds of War (1997). In the summer of 1996 John accompanied Faith and the Muse at the Zillo Festival as guitarist. Upon his return from Europe he rejoined the band for the U.S. "Apparition" tour. After the Winds of War, John took a break in order to realize some new ideas that were emerging that seemed to be a departure from Sub Version. The Heaven EP in 2002 (as John Koviak) was the official beginning of this new chapter and the Imagination EP (as Koviak) followed soon after in 2003. John has most recently been seen active as a live guitarist and violinist for Faith & the Muse. He accompanied them on their European 2003 “Burning Season” tour, performed with them at Mera Luna 2004, on the 2004 United States tour and lastly in Santiago, Chile.

Search Add 2 T.J. Hooker-Taylor [a=T.J. Hooker-Taylor] comes from a musical family. His mother, Mary Ann Hooker, and father the late Great [a=Johnnie Taylor], raised him in the church. Along with his family and at the age ten he joined his first group, The Young Golden Voices, who performed at all the churches in the Kansas City area. At the age of 16, TJ started a R&B band, called The Grand Jury Band, who opened for many top acts that came to the city like The Bar-Kays, Cameo, Slave, and many more. Some of the members of that band went on to become the group LOW-KEY, which got signed by top R&B producers Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Unapologetically proud of his lineage, Hooker-Taylor has released CDs independently with the Johnnie Taylor sound, albeit with mostly new, original songs. CDS Records signed TJ Hooker-Taylor and released two albums (2009's "Your Babies Need A Daddy" and 2012's "Taylorized"). In 2015 Taylor began performing with local Gospel group The KC Clouds.

Search Add 2 Miss Lalithangi, Madras Madras Lalithangi Born in 1910, Madras Lalithangi was adopted by Perumalkoil Narayanamma, a devadasi who resided in the Chengam Bazar area in George Town, Madras. As was customary in a family dedicated to the arts, the child was given music lessons from a variety of gurus such as Coimbatore Thayi, Padam Pattabhiramayya, Fiddle Subba Rao and the redoubtable Veena Dhanammal. By the time she was in her teens she had become a vocalist of repute. In the early twenties many women singers lived in the George Town area and one of them was Tiruvarur Rajayi. Kootanur Ayyaswami Iyer, a man who was known for his large repertoire of the works of Tyagaraja, but who could not make a mark as a vocalist came to teach Rajayi. Ayyar and Lalithangi met in the house of Rajayi. He began teaching Lalithangi too and soon they were drawn to each other and tied the knot in the mid-1920s. Vasanthakumari was born in 1928 to this couple. There was an impromptu music performance by the great vocalist Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer during the cradle ceremony of the child. Young Vasanthi was taught music at home, even as she was sent to the Good Shepherd's Convent for formal education. This was short-lived. Lalithangi's frequent asthmatic attacks curtailed her concert opportunities and consequently her income. Her husband took to giving music lessons to children of affluent families.

Delivered government messages for radio broadcast during the Cold War. Born June 6, 1919, died February 10, 2013. The usual credit string is "Featuring a message from Steuart L. Pittman, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Civil Defense." This is currently being entered as a "Featuring" role, since that is the term used on the releases and exact role is unknown at this time. It's possible that Pittman only wrote the messages delivered by the announcer(s) and that the role should be that of a writer.

Search Add 2 The Von Erich Suicide Mission Officially you could say this band started in Brooklyn, NY. It’s where Shane and Bryan met, where they held their first practices and played their first shows. While they got together in Brooklyn, they got together because of Denton, TX. Before Williamsburg was young and hip, a group of artists from Denton were attracted there by cheap rent and a warehouse space. Parallel to this, Bryan and Shane were on separate paths criss crossing the country. Shane settled in Brooklyn and met the Dentonites. Bryan begrudgingly settled in New Jersey, but would get out to Brooklyn for a show or to meet his Denton buddies from time to time. On one of these trips Shane and Bryan discussed the important things in life, which consisted mostly of music and things related to music. Thus was the birth of the Von Erich Suicide Mission. Two like minded drifters brought together by a little known town 2000 miles away. …and then there’s Young Squire. Not to be a footnote, because this wouldn’t have started without a drummer. Squire claims that he was born in Texas, but he was raised in New Jersey. He found Bryan’s home recordings on a website Bryan set up and offered to play drums. Upon meeting, Bryan noticed a number of red flags. Squire was a bird watcher, a volunteer fireman, played hockey and claimed to be an architect even though he was only 20 at the time. The main concern was his earlier involvement in backyard wrestling – there may even be video evidence of this. Still, Bryan allowed him a chance because he chewed the same tobacco and cheered for the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. The home recordings would lay the foundation for VESM. Songs about the life and times of a rough and tumble wrestling family from Texas set to a creep rock sound track. Oh, and occasional songs about nachos, cars and girls.
