Many of these artists probably are in MusicBrainz in some form but they are not currently linked, the list is ordered so that Discogs artists with the most number of single artists releases are listed first on the basis that these artists would be of more interest.
Some problems will just be due to deficiencies in the Discogs to Musicbrainz artist matching algorithm employed by Albunack.
There are also timing issues as this report is not updated immediately so will not reflect recent modifications and additions to MusicBrainz and Discogs.
One issue in Discogs is they handle artist credits differently so a Discogs name consisting of multiple people is probably represented on MusicBrainz as two individuals, but we try to filter these out of this report
We have also omitted artists that are not unique in both MusicBrainz and Discogs because these artists are probably not missing just more difficult to match up.
Another issue is that some Discogs artists have multiple ids with one id just redirecting to the other, this is the case with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, do we add both links to MusicBrainz ?

| Search | Add | 5 | The Dynaminds | Band description from an i94 Review: The Dynaminds Real Rock and Roll is alive and well and living in relative obscurity in Europe. Happily, it seems. It doesn't matter who listens to the radio - that medium, for the most part, lost any semblance of intelligence (musically speaking) in the late '70s when centralised playlists and other economies of scale kicked in. The smart people are grabbing their Rock Action wherever they can find it and here's another example, all the way from Bitburg in Germany. In the case of The Dynaminds, it's like a little bit of the Murder City was relocated to Deutschland, fed copious amounts of Pilsener and sausage and sent into the Black Forest to terrorise the populace. Thinking about it, inflicting the Flying Dutchman - aka Tony Slug of the Nitwitz and the Hydromatics - onto these guys as producer probably had the same effect. I'm sure the band must have developed thick hides by the end of the session 'cos the Slug is known to direct his stinging wit in the direction of most nationalities, but Germans especially. Listen hard enough and you'll hear a neat slice of Sonic's Rendezvous Band's "Dangerous" riffage (also a signature song for the Hydros) in the guest Slug guitar on "By All Means", which is a stellar moment on a great album. You know what to expect but it's done extremely well. Sluggo's production is superb too, with guitars bristling away atop a mammoth-sounding bottom end. Dr Rock is the guy on four-strings and much kudos to him. Da Man can play and even leads the way on "Hazy Hands". The Dynaminds namecheck SRB, the Five, Birdman, the Who and the Stooges in their bio and music. It doesn't take a genius to work out where they've applied those cues and you'll revel in Pick The Influence, if you're into that sort of thing. It actually takes about 30 seconds for the goodness of this record to kick in. I'm talkin' 'bout the first song, "Riding High", where a bitching backbeat and barroom piano slide over the top of a big fat bottom end and Van Boogie's soulful vocal. Mix in those guitars, courtesy of Sgt Famous and Smokey Lonesome, and you've got yourself a pro forma for a rockin' great time. Comes to the second tune, "Love Affair", and you'd swear these guitarists had been taking lessons from Nick Royale, Dr Tek and Klondike (like that's a bad thing?) "Bill Leavin" might be the centrepiece, with its tough, gritty feel and extended guitar call and response work-out. The single "Dangerous Blue", was a tour de force with its chunky guitars and smooth organ trimmings and it's here for your digital enjoyment, sounding like a Hydromatics song. There's a whole lot to like about The Dynaminds and if they recall a host of all-too-obvious influences, well that's fine 'cos you'll know what you're in for. Expect no fresh frontiers to be broken, but a flag is flown for the right sort of rock and roll. The album's even dedicated to Sonic Smith. A no risk investment. He was born into a poor family, but with a mother who desperately wanted her son to learn music, he did, against all the odds, eventually gain a place in the Northern College of Music. He graduated there with the prospect of a concert career, but with work difficult to find, he was glad to take a "soul-destroying" job at Manchester's Midland Hotel playing light music in a quintet. Things were to change when he was asked to go with the Halle Orchestra to the Edinburgh Festival, and was then invited to play with the BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra, a performance that turned into a long association with the BBC including his own radio show. Having already accompanied the violinist, Max Jaffa, he was invited by Jaffa to join his famous Spa Orchestra in Scarborough. "That was in 1975," Billington recalled. "And I went there with the intention of definitely saying 'no', but then I saw Scarborough I thought it was beautiful and I've been here ever since." It was to be a partnership with the popular violinist that lasted 12 years, and involved many broadcasts, only coming to an end when Scarborough and Max Jaffa parted company. But Vincent had no intention of leaving the town having met his wife, Maria, during his first season there, and he used it as his base as a touring concert performer. As the Indian summer of his life approached, he settled back home again with seasons of concerts spread throughout the year in Scarborough, Whitby, Bridlington, Filey and York. His mix of the serious and light classics became part of each town's weekly delights. In 2001, a lump was discovered in his chest, but following a successful operation it continued to spread, his concert-going public never aware that between his prodigious number of concerts he was frequently receiving hospital treatment. It was the way the quiet man wanted life, as he performed through to the end, dying in peace at home. In 1902, he had his theatrical debut in the theater of the abstinence society "Auseklis" in whose choir he and brother Robert were singing. Between 1908 and 1913, while playing increasingly more important dramatic roles at a variety of theaters, he took singing lessons. His first operatic role, in 1910, was the Prince in [a=Konradin Kreutzer]'s "Das Nachtlager in Granada". In 1912, he won a three-year contract with the Nuremberg State Theater, where he sang in Wagner's "Ring des Nibelungen," Verdi's "Troubadour" and others in the 1913-1914 season. The start of World War 1, however, forced him to return first to Riga, and then, when the front came closer, to flee to St. Petersburg. Between 1915 and 1918, he performed in various Russian cities in front of Latvian refugee audiences. Having returned to Riga in 1918, Kaktiņš began working at the Latvian Opera (from 1919, the Soviet Latvian Opera). He performed the title roles in Wagner's "Flying Dutchman", Verdi's "Rigoletto", Mozart's "Don Giovanni," Tchaikovsky's "Eugen Onegin" and many others, including operas by a series of Latvian composers. From 1925, intrigues forced Kaktiņš to go abroad for some time. During this time he performed at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and at the Théâtre National de l'Opéra in Paris. In 1934, he acted the role of Maigas' father in the first Latvian sound feature film "Son of the People" (director H. Ballašs). During the German occupation from 1941-1944, Kaktiņš continued to sing at the Riga Opera and give numerous concerts elsewhere. In September 1944, he followed the retreating German armies to Germany. He spent the next years performing to Latvian refugee communities in Germany. In July 1949, he emigrated to the United States. There he continued to perform in concerts and at theatrical performances organized by Latvian emigrants in the U.S. and Canada. He made his living, however, by working for a number of companies before he finally turned to chicken farming. Starting around 1910, Kaktiņš recorded both operatic arias and Latvian folk songs for numerous labels. | |

| Search | Add | 5 | The Combustibles | The five members of The Combustibles who recorded Watch Her and Some Peace of Mind were its regulars during the band’s final act from 1969-72. But each entered the band from vastly different directions. Brothers George (on bass) and Lionel Taylor (on lead), the founder members, were children of British parents who decided to stay on in India after the country’s independence in 1947. George and Lionel recall playing their first guitars and singing together at St. Joseph’s boarding school in Bangalore as young teenagers, inspired by the early harmonies of The Beatles. Returning to Bombay in 1965, they started playing publicly in informal settings till the first edition of The Combustibles formed in 1967. The Taylor parents and their sister Ellen, were the band’s initial mentors and remained their biggest supporters and fans. Everett Perry first discovered his lyrical skills at the young age of thirteen, while in high school at St. Michael’s in the Bandra suburb of Bombay when a number of his friends approached him to pen love poems for their girlfriends – a skill they apparently did not possess! One of his earliest successes, on the local radio called The Cadbury Show resulted in a prize of a dozen Cadbury bars. The poet in Everett ended up becoming The Combustibles song-writer and composer. The oldest in the band by about five years, he was the only one who had theoretical training in music and studied the piano till the intermediate stage. Everett took over the lead vocal slot and became one of the most recognized front-men in the Bombay rock scene – ably supported by George who managed most of the harmony vocals. Bobby Furtado, the baby of the band and brother-in-law of manager Godfrey Uttanwalla, was an important link in The Combustibles chain. For a drummer, Bobby was quiet to a fault and self-effacing till he got on stage! Drumming since the age of sixteen, he had only played with a few local amateur bands till the opportunity to join the band occurred following the illness of regular drummer Croyden Maben late in 1969. Bobby seized the opportunity with both hands (and a strong leg on the bass drum) and provided the basic beat to the music of The Combustibles till the band disbanded in the summer of 1972. While George and Lionel were beginning to practice the harmonies of The Beatles in Bangalore, Everett was honing his song-writing skills and Bobby had still to start playing the drums, Nissim was 8500 miles away in Washington D.C., with his family where his father had just begun employment with the IMF. The family arrived just a month before the horror of President Kennedy’s assassination but three months later, with all of America, watched The Beatles launch a rock revolution as they opened their first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show on 9th February 1964, four days after Nissim’s fourteenth birthday, with All My Loving. Like every teenage boy at the time it seemed, Nissim was hooked and soon had his first cheap acoustic guitar. But nothing went very far until fate intervened and a classmate in high school named Pat Loper invited Nissim to his home where every member of the family (including the Mom) would sit around after dinner playing the guitar and strumming classic country songs. Buck Owens and the Buckaroos was what they played most! There was no rock played in the Loper household – though Act Naturally was soon to be an important bridge between Buck Owens and Ringo and The Beatles! Five years later as the family got ready to return to India, a friendly salesman at Veneman Music in the Arlington suburb of Washington D.C. suggested to Nissim’s father that his son would do well to take along a Fender Stratocaster and this new fuzz-wah pedal of a type that a guitarist named Jimi Hendrix had already made very famous. The concern is the whole, sublime truth of the sound. The Wellington-based quartet would often perform to capacity crowds at venues such as Quinn’s Post in Upper Hutt, The Cabana in Napier, Mainstreet, The Gluepot and Manukau Arms in Auckland. The group proved to be a powerful support act for Cold Chisel in 1982, at Wellington Town Hall. The biggest concert that ROSE BAYONET played was on the main stage at Sweetwaters Festival on January 28th, 1983 -- which was also one of their last gigs. There were reportedly over 35,000 attendees at the Festival. The group’s energetic live sets were comprised of mostly original material, with suitably heavy titles such as “Demon Rider”, “Let It Die”, “Headbanger”, “Tough Road”, “Six Feet Under”, “Hell on Earth”, “Predator” and several more. ROSE BAYONET performances were unforgettable and notoriously loud (the band took their own huge p.a. system on the road) with flash pot explosions, a great light show, obligatory dry ice and special effects, all added for good measure. ROSE BAYONET recorded an exciting selection of self-penned songs at EMI Studios in Wellington in 1982 (the group had no bass player at that point, so Stefan Lavington played all guitar and bass on the studio recordings). Their shot at the international heavy metal market didn’t eventuate though, as EMI NZ chose not to sign the band, despite their live performances being all the rage. After ROSE BAYONET split up, a couple of young RB fans (Shane Joyce & Stephen Britland) managed to get hold of the studio demo master tapes. Shane & Stephen used their own money to fund the release of the ROSE BAYONET LP, entitled ‘Leather and Chains’. (Four additional live tracks were added to the five studio cuts). It was issued onto the NZ market via Jayrem Records, with a sole pressing of only 500 copies. The very basic cover artwork, text errors and songwriting credit guess work left a lot to be desired, but at last ROSE BAYONET were finally documented on vinyl. The record is now highly collectable and sought after by avid metal fans worldwide, wanting to hear what Kiwi heavy rock was all about. A couple of other live ROSE BAYONET tracks also appeared on the similarly rare N.Z. compilation ‘Godzone Metal’ LP in 1983. | |

| Search | Add | 5 | The Blue Magnolia Jass Orchestra | Since they were formed in 1968, the eight piece Orchestra have released EP's, LP's, as well as appearing on numerous television shows including a 30 minute feature as part of Granada TV's Music on the Move series. When HRH the Prince of Wales visited Liverpool, the Blue Mags were invited to play for him. The chaps are, of course, widely travelled throughout the UK and Europe. At the Den Bosch festival in Holland, they won the prestigious Band of the Year award in the face of competition from 100 bands all over the world. What makes the Blue Mags so popular is that their style of playing and their uninhibited approach fits in, whatever the occasion. They are constantly in demand for University balls, dinner dances, sports clubs, jazz festivals, weddings, because they are masters at appealing to all age groups. The line up consists of clarinet, trumpet, saxophone and trombone. The rhythm section has drums, piano, banjo and double bass. The chaps will tell you that they are entertainers rather than a 'serious' jazz band and their repertoire supports this view. They claim that jazz is an entertaining and enjoyable music that can be appreciated by everybody. However, let's not underestimate the Blue Mags. You don't win Band of the Year awards and get asked to play at all the major jazz festivals year after year just by producing a happy sound. Nor are recreations of the Morton Hot Peppers and King Oliver classics possible by other than skilled musicians. | |
